Katie (00:00):
In this Get Pregnant now.
Quickie episode.
We're going to discuss vitamin C forfertility and how it can support your
hormones, egg health, and implantation
Welcome to the finally GetPregnant Naturally Podcast.
The podcast helping women identifythe real reasons you haven't
conceived or stayed pregnant, soyou and your partner can finally

(00:21):
grow the family of your dreams.
I'm your host, Dr.
Katie Wood.
Let's dive in, shall we?
here are three things you'll take away from today's episode.
How Vitamin C supportsyour fertility by reducing
inflammation and oxidative stress.
The difference between ascorbic acidsupplements and whole food vitamin

(00:42):
C supplements how to naturallyincorporate more vitamin C into
your fertility supportive diet.
So vitamin C is.
Very much widely known for supportingyour immune system, but did you know
that it can actually also play a criticalrole in supporting your fertility?

(01:04):
So how can vitamin C do this?
Do.
It can reduce inflammationand oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress is when free radicalsdamage your cells, including eggs,
sperm, and the uterine environment.
High oxidative stress can impact eggquality, sperm quality implantation,

(01:26):
and early embryo development.
So don't forget that Vitamin C is apotent antioxidant, meaning it can
neutralize free radicals and protectreproductive cells from oxidative
damage, and it can also help.
Regulate inflammation, which isessential because chronic inflammation

(01:48):
can impair ovulation and implantation.
And we just talked about how inflammationcan affect fertility on the last episode,
so check that out if you haven't yet.
So let's talk about ascorbicacid versus whole food vitamin C.
If you look at your prenatalvitamin, or maybe you have a separate

(02:09):
vitamin C supplement altogether,
likely.
When you look at the supplement facts,it's going to say ascorbic acid.
And when it comes to supplements.
Not all Vitamin C is created equal,
so ascorbic acid.
This is a synthetic isolatedform of vitamin C found in

(02:29):
most standard supplements.
It is effective at providingantioxidant support, but it doesn't
come with the co-factors foundin Whole Foods to help your body
absorb and use it most efficiently.
So when you have whole Food, vitaminC, these supplements are derived from

(02:51):
fruits and vegetables, often including.
Bioflavonoids and other phytonutrients.
And this can improve absorption, antioxidant activity and may
provide broader fertility benefitsbeyond just ascorbic acid alone.
So typically, if I have any clientswho are either deficient in vitamin C

(03:14):
or they have specific antioxidantsshowing up as highly protective for them.
Like caou camo powder for example.
We are going to source from wholefood supplements when possible.
So what about natural food sources?
Vitamin C is abundant in colorful fruitsand vegetables, so you can focus on

(03:37):
citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, berries like strawberries,
blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, andpineapple, bell peppers, broccoli, leafy
greens, tomatoes and sweet potatoes.
Just a couple of reminders.
When you're having fruit or things thatcontain natural sugars, I do recommend

(04:00):
pairing it with a fat and or protein justto help regulate your blood sugar response
including a variety of these foodsdaily, not only gives you vitamin C,
but also fiber, phytonutrients andantioxidants that support overall
hormone balance and reproductive health.

(04:22):
And here is a little tip if youare having issues with iron.
Vitamin C actually increasesthe absorption of iron.
So if you're having a meal.
With some iron rich food, you canpair it with a food that is also
rich in vitamin C, and that'sgoing to help with the absorption.
So here's an action step.

(04:43):
You wanna aim for a good variety ofwhole food, vitamin C, and if absolutely
needed a high quality supplement.
But you always wanna check with yourprovider before starting any new
supplements, especially if you'realready on other fertility protocols.
So let's recap today's takeaways.
Vitamin C helps reduce inflammationand oxidative stress, protecting eggs,

(05:07):
sperm, and the uterine environment.
Whole food.
Vitamin C supplements provideadditional co-factors that improve
absorption and other fertility benefitscompared to standard ascorbic acid
and eating a variety of vitamin Crich foods and vegetables daily.
We'll support fertility naturally andprovide a broader antioxidant support.

(05:30):
So if you've been feeling like yourfertility is all about tracking and
protocols, don't forget the simplebut powerful nutrients like vitamin
C that can help create a fertile, healthy environment for conception.
So thank you so much for listening.
