Edge (00:00):
Welcome to full cow podcast about leather, kink and

(00:03):
BDSM. My name is edge Mypronouns are he him, and I'm
your host. And this is anotherinterlude of the episode between
episodes offered raw andunedited, but with leather
creaking. And this time we'retalking about boots. You know, I
recently had a financialwindfall, I received a sizable

(00:24):
check that I was not expectingat all. And finally, after 52
years of living, I've learned totake most of that money and put
it into savings. But just mostof it. Since it arrived right
around Christmas, I decided todo a little bit of a splurge and
buy some new boots. And this waspartially because I had someone
visiting me from out of town, wewere going to stampers. And, you

(00:46):
know, when you start at a bootstore, if you go to a boot store
often enough, you're gonna buyboots. It was also motivated by
the fact that stampers hadposted that they finally had
West goes back in stock. If youfollow the boot world at all,
since the pandemic, you'll knowthat there has been a desperate
shortage of instock boots frommajor makers. So it both felt

(01:09):
like a particular timing and aparticular opportunity. It just
felt right. The truth is,though, I don't really need more
boots, if you've ever seen atour of my playroom, and if not,
I should probably post one atsome point, I have a very large
boot rack slash closet withmaybe 25 pairs of boots. Of

(01:31):
those I regularly wear probablyfour. And that's sad, isn't it.
But that's just the way it is Igravitate to some of my favorite
pairs over and over. So I don'twant to pretend that I
necessarily need more boots. Noram I an endless boot collector
when it comes to leather. Trustme, I have so many leather

(01:51):
shirts, I will always buyanother leather shirt. So many
pairs of breeches, I will alwayspair by another pair of
breeches. But I've not beendriven in the same way in a
Pokeyman way to catch all theboots. That's not been my
motivation. It is true, however, that for about a year I have
been missing a pair of tallboots, and a pair of short lace

(02:15):
up boots. I had a pair of westcoJohn masters and a pair of Wesco
bas there's simply no longer inmy possession. And I'm not sure
that they ever will be again. Sothere has been a slight hole in
my boot collection. Particularlythe short lace up boots, you
know, I got from stoppers.
months, maybe nine months ago.

(02:37):
on consignment, they had a pairof highlighters, short
highlighters. And with metalplates on the side, and so they
kind of go clicky clack when Iwalk in, I love them and I
bought them. But they kill mytoes. I don't know why these
boots are so willful, I havetried breaking them to my will
over and over. No, they alwayswhen they always hurt me, they

(02:59):
hurt me. And I've even gone backto stampers and they've steamed
on and I've walked around in wetboots and that helped a little
bit. But I've really beenmissing my short lace up boots.
For my toe lace up ones, I stillhave another pair of Wesco Bas
and that serves every purpose.
And if you've listened to any ofmy content, you know that I
would argue that any leather manreally only needs one pair of

(03:20):
tall pull on boots, one pair ofshort lace up boots. So I've had
those right. But particularlythe short lace up I was kind of
missing. So when when I got thismoney, and when I knew there
were West Coast in stock, Iended up getting a pair of short
jumpmaster no shorthighlighters. I know I'm
throwing around terms. So Wescoeis one of the primary Bootmakers

(03:43):
particularly for working styleboots including engineer boots
and logger boots. The job Masteris really more there logger
boot. Mini Highliner is theirlineman boot. It has an extra
flap of leather on the inside ofthe boot. Not quite inside the
boot. But on the inside outside.

(04:07):
That's not a very gooddescription. But there's an
extra flap of leather that'smeant to provide protection
while you're climbing up thepole. So I got a pair of short
lineman boots. And then I've gota pair of dangers. Now, I
already had a pair of trainersand they cracked. I don't
there's no other way to describeit. You know diners are sort of

(04:27):
the primary. They're the WestCoast riding boots. They are
Premier and they're not cheap. Ispent hundreds of dollars on my
pair of diners. And they theycracked. I mean it turns out
that this beautiful black shinyshaft was made out of some sort
of plastic with some white, cottony material underneath. It

(04:48):
wasn't all leather. It washorrible. So I've been so
disappointed and kind of angrywith Dana for a long time. But
why was that stampers Kyle whoworks here is like Hey, Doc
trainers, they fix that, thatwon't happen again. And oh, by
the way, we have boots withextra big calves in stock. And I
have extra big calves. So Iended up getting a pair of

(05:11):
trainers and a pair of thehighlighters. And shopping for
boots for me as always anxietyproducing, I have a funny feet.
You know, they're technicallylike seven and a half Triple E
or something. But I usually fitinto an eight and a half because
the larger toe box allows mycrazy white tiny feet to be

(05:32):
comfortable. But whenever I'mbuying boots, I'm just never,
I'm always afraid I'm about tomake a huge mistake. And these
boots really don't fit me andI'm going to regret it. I have a
kind of anxiety around buyingboots. So far I've been really
happy. I did get an eight and ahalf gainer with the extra big
calf. And smartly, I went intostampers with my breeches to

(05:57):
make sure that they looked goodand would fit with things I'm
actually going to wear themwith, right so I brought my
legless breeches, I brought myCHP breeches, and I made sure
they would fit inside the boot.
And they did. The highlanders Iwas very happy with but even
then I was like, Oh, my God, orthis is the right size. Where
are they going to get on myfeet, I have a lot of boot
anxiety, more than when I'm likewhen I'm buying leather. Like I

(06:20):
know my body, I put something onboom, it fits. I'm always
anxious when it comes to boots,I'm always anxious. But so far,
I'm very happy with mypurchases. Part of what's
interesting for me about myrelationship with boots, I have
incredibly specific rituals whenit comes to buying leather. So

(06:41):
you know, before any new item ofleather can get into the leather
closet, I have to wear it out orwear it in a scene. And then I
have to mark it with my seed.
It's this whole, like I'mclaiming it, it is a part of me.
It is it isn't I've now markedit, it's a whole thing, a whole

(07:02):
thing. I don't know why I do notdo that with boots, I don't have
any crazy rituals with boots, Iwear them, they spent a little
bit of time, before they getinto the boot rack, usually on
like my leather altar or in mydead room, I kind of get to know
them a little bit. But theamount of ritual I put into
boots, is is so much less thanthe amount of ritual I put into

(07:25):
leather. And I can't justify orexplain that. These are both
items of gear, these are bothvery special to me, these are
both things that need to servethem. You know, I've often
spoken about boots as havinglike, boots are a little bit
like wild stallions. And theyhave to be broken to your will
literally you're breaking it upas you wear it, breaking it into

(07:48):
the particular shape of yourfoot and the particular way that
you walk and all that. So Ialways think of boots being very
willful. And going back to thepair of high liners that I got
on consignment that hurt mytoes. I could never break their
will I tried and I tried andtried, they broke my knee
instead. So part of it is thatboots are boots are like

(08:15):
searching for the words, bootshave an animus and a spirit of
their own before I even getthem. They are wild animals. And
my job and getting a pair ofboots is not necessarily to mark
them as mine. But to come tosome sort of agreement with
them. Because I think theyalways retain that. That sort of

(08:36):
stallion spirit. Yes, I know.
I'm talking crazy. But for meboots always retain that sort of
animalistic wild spirit. Right.
And so what I do, I can't claimthem the way I claim a piece of
leather, the best I can do iscome to some sort of agreement
that we're going to work witheach other. And that's the

(08:58):
process of breaking in the boot.
The process of breaking in theboot is really just going to
sound so crazy. It's likeearning the trust of my boots
that I will I will use them. Iwill wear them. I will give them
life. I will give them purpose.
They will have a great time withme. And and then they're like
okay, all right, well, I'm notgonna kill your foot. Let's go

(09:19):
have fun. Let's go. That's verydifferent leather for me doesn't
come with that samespiritedness. Leather for me is
a little bit more of a blankcanvas. So when I get it, I mark
it. I imprint on it. Why? Idon't know. Is it crazy? Yeah, a
little bit. Am I crazy? No, I'mweird, but in a wonderful way.

(09:43):
So there are specific ritualswith my leather gear to sort of
imprint upon them. But therituals around boots are less
ritualistic and more. Like, Idon't know animal training.
Yeah, okay.
I also when I was at schooloffers got some really great
accessories, they have theselittle sheets of essentially

(10:04):
plastic that act as bootshapers, you just sort of bend
them in half and put them in theshaft or your boot. And they pop
into place. And then they keepthat boot from sagging, which is
a real problem for tall boots.
So I was really happy withthose, they were very reasonably
priced. And then I got thesehook pull things, I mean, it's
essentially two metal hooks withlittle wooden handles. And
they're particularly good forthe dangers because inside

(10:26):
containers, they're these twocloth loops, and they're the
pull on loops. Most boots have apull on loop somewhere. And then
you swiftly you scoot the metalhooks into these pull on loops.
And then you use them to pull onthe boot. And then you slide
them out. And I never had thosebefore they make a significant
difference in putting on thedanger. So I was very happy with

(10:47):
that. And I also got some socksI really liked. Now,
historically, I've just wornwhite tube socks as my standard
boot sock and they're fine.
They're perfectly serviceable.
I've worn them my entire bootwearing life. But stampers had
these socks by Fox, I think fucksport maybe. And they were

(11:10):
white. They were really tall.
And they were a little thicker.
They're not as thick as like thegiant wool, Arctic boots, socks,
but they were a little thicker.
And I just loved the way theyfelt I loved how tall they were,
because they could pull them up.
And they would provideprotection with my boot. And I
also love the kind of cushionEnos of them. So summers only

(11:33):
had one pair and they were likewe're not carrying these
anymore. We're not going tocarry them in stock. So thank
God for Amazon because I orderedlike seven pairs. Oh God, no, it
wasn't even Amazon, it wasthrough the actual website for
the company. Anyway, I got a lotof socks coming on the way at
this point. So I got thoseboots, probably about a week

(11:54):
ago. And they're now at home inthe boot closet. I have worn
both pairs out several times andthe dangers are still, you know,
if I pay attention, I'm like, wow, my foot feels really
pressed against the edges. Maybethese aren't wide enough for me.
But if I'm if I don't put myattention on my foot, they're

(12:17):
perfectly comfortable. So I knowthey're going to be good boots,
I just have to let them be agood boot without sort of
getting in the way. Thehighlighters I'm very happy with
they need a little bit morebreaking in, you know, it's very
different. The way you break ina lace up boot from a pull on
boot. Pull on boots are reallyabout getting those creases in
at the ankle. And at the endstep and, and lace up boot is a

(12:40):
little bit different. You know, actually Kyle at stampers
recommended a great video on howto get the proper break in your
diners. He told me to go toYouTube and search for danger
he'll video and essentially, before you even put the boots
on, you have to reach your handinto the shaft and bend the heel
backwards and make sure that youhave a clean even break on the

(13:02):
inside. If not, they're gonnabreak in a way that presses
against your ankle. And I knowit's a little hard to describe,
but if you go look at the video, you'll know what I'm talking
about. I'm really glad I didthat. The dangers have been
pretty comfortable and brokenin. I've worn them a few times.
And I've worn the Highlanders afew times. And my boots are in
the boot closet and I am happy.

(13:25):
I've been and one of the reasonsI never got new pairs of
Daenerys. Besides my utterdisappointment in the fact that
my very expensive boots fellapart and were made out of
plastic and cloth instead ofleather. Generally I wear my
West goes for anything thatwould require a danger type
boots. So all of my breeches Iwill wear West goes with them.
My CHP cloth uniform, I willwear my west coast with it

(13:46):
because it looks just as hot.
But now I've really gotten intowearing the dangers a little bit
more they are ball laced, whichmeans there's a little bit of
lacing at the instep. And thevery specific way you have to
lace it so that the laces meetin the middle. And it's a good
look. I like the slightly morepointed toe of the diner. The
shaft has a nice it's it'sstraighter, it's got a nice

(14:07):
curve to it. So I've beenenjoying wearing that more out
to the bars. And I think they'regoing to be the dangers will
become part of my regularcirculation along with my West
goes. And that's what's going onin my world right now. It's
booted ventures, I actually haveanother pair of boots that
should be arriving soon a pairof tall harness West girls with

(14:27):
a double strap at the top. And Iordered those I think nine
months ago. But I have a note onmy calendar that they were
supposed to be done. Next week.
We'll see if they actually ourWest Coast had some production
problems with the pandemic. I amI'm a little anxious about those

(14:49):
boots as to you know, I do havethat boot anxiety whenever I buy
boots. But in particular, youknow, the owner of stampers
convinced me to get these bootsshorter than I Wanted, I want an
18 inch, he's like, no, they'regoing to be too, they're going
to be too big at the top becausethey have to fit over your giant
calf. And then you're gonna havethis big boot at the big boot at
the top. So I get them lower, get them lower. And I did. I'm

(15:13):
not sure if I'm going to lovethat. So we'll see. I've kind of
already convinced myself, I'mnot going to love them, which is
such a sad thing to do to bootsthat haven't been born yet. But
I'm doing it because then I amfront loading disappointment.
And then they can arrive. Oh mygod, I actually love these Yay.
I don't know, I'll tell youwhat, when they arrive, I'll
give you a report on them. I amstruggling with podcast

(15:36):
production. I really need to getsome of the main episodes in the
can I need to build up a buffer.
But my schedule has been reallybusy lately, not just with the
holidays. But I have a lot ofplans going on that are
wonderful. So I'm hopeful tomaintain my podcast production.
But I certainly ask yourforgiveness. If some episodes
get a little bit behind. Iremain dedicated to producing

(15:58):
the podcast. And when I look atthe numbers of how many viewers
and I mean, how many listenersand subscribers and all that.
It's not at all impressive. Butthe people who've approached me
personally and told meanecdotally that this podcast
and has an impact on them. Ally'all have made my life really
wonderful as the only reason Ikeep doing this work. And it's a
lot of work. One thing that maybe coming with the main podcast,

(16:21):
I may just have to jettison theinterview segment, like I did
for the January episode oncollecting gears and plenty
changes. It's just that muchextra work to find someone to
interview to arrange theinterview to do all that. I love
the fact that I get a secondvoice in and it's not just all
me that we get anotherperspective. I think that's

(16:42):
really valuable. But it's reallyweighing the value of that
versus the cost of what it takesto produce. So if you have
particular thoughts on that, please reach out to me, let me
know. So what's that's what'sgoing on in my world. You got
two new pairs of boots. I got athird pair on the way and I am
struggling with this damnpodcast, but I remain devoted to

(17:02):
it because of you because you'relistening. And because you're
letting me know you listen. Sothank you and have a beautifully
blessed journey.
