The term 'Great Mystery' is one proposed translation for the Lakota phrase 'Wakan Tanka', which is also translated as the 'Great Spirit.'  Other North American Indigenous groups refer to a similar all-powerful creator, such as the Objibwe 'Gitchi Manitou.'
