Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, we've got to keep our kids safe, and there's
a rise of a whole bunch of apps using AI
that is making kids do things that are illegal and
they don't even know it. So to talk more about it,
we've got Adair Donaldson on the phone.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Good morning you dare Goodham, Jade, how are you? And
Paul how are you going?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Good? Thanks?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Mate, We're on the news together the other night talking
about the rise of these AI apps that kids are
utilizing to make nudes of their schoolmates and it's against
the law, and you're heading into schools to let them
know this.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
So something I think that every parent needs to be
aware of the fact is that the apps themselves that
are out there that they are legal, but it's what
that the kids are doing with them that then makes
it illegal. So that there is apps out there that
can take any image of any person and you can
feed it into the app and you can push the
(00:48):
undressed baton and then you've got a nude.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Now on top of that, there is even more.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I suppose insidious types of apps out there that can
even do action shots.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
So I let the imagination of everybody else understand what's
going on there with those types of apps that are
out there.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
How realistic is its?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Really? It's realistic. Okay, so you look at it and you.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Would think that it's not a cartoon, it is real
life characters.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
So unfortunately it is realistic. So where the issue is becoming.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
You'll appreciate that in days gone by, there would be
kids that would draw stick figures and of what they
thought people were going to be like. Now, within fourteen seconds,
you can put an image in there and you can
create a need. Now, what the kids don't understand is
that by putting these uploading someone's image into there and
(01:45):
then circulating that if the person is a minor, then
we're talking about pedophilia there. And you'll appreciate that schools,
if they do become aware of this, they must report
it to the police.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
They do not have an option. It is mandatory reporting happening.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
It's happening in schools on the Gold Coast. I know
of one case.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Jame is in every school throughout Australia. So the big
thing that we are doing here is that I spend
a large amount of my time going into schools.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
And talking about legal consequences.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
So we need to be having these brutal, confronting conversations
and to be educating our young adults about what the
consequences of their actions.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Are going to be.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
This is not banter, This is not just part of
growing up. No, this has got serious consequences. Now, what
we need to appreciate is that our teachers are at
risk here as well, because what we are seeing down
in Victoria has been that there's been a number of
teachers that have.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Been targeted with this material. They've taken the images of
the teachers, they put it through.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
One of these apps, and then they're circulating.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
The new photos of the teachers. Right, So we've got
to protect our teachers. We've got to protect children as well.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
So can you give us an example of a real
life situation that's really happened to really bring it home
to any kids that are listening right now.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Last year, if there was a situation where.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
There was a fourteen year old boy down in Victoria,
he took fifty pictures of his classmates, put it into
one of these apps, and then were circulating the new
pictures around and that child is now being charged in
relation to the circulation of those images and their sexual offenses.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Last year in Australia, the federal government acted.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
They introduced laws which now make it a criminal offense
to create and distribute deep bak.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
However, it's still quite difficult to prove.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
It becomes even more serious when the people that are
involved at children.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
So kids aren't listening to this right now, there would
be some parents that are actually listening. Make sure that
you get this information and sit down with your young kids. Yes,
because the technology trains album. Yeah, the technology trains left
the station. So it's not an easy fix, like just
don't let them have phones or just don't let them
have their apps because they might be targeted or they
may be the target e and you wouldn't even know
(04:02):
about it. So I feel like the most important thing
is letting them know that you know what's going on out.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
There, and there's accountability that comes with it. Yeah, one
hundred percent. So parents need to be better informed. They
can't be living in blissful ignorance thinking that their children
is not going to be their children won't be targeted
with this, they are going to be targeted with this.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Well I think this will help. So thank you so much.
We have a lot of parents that listen.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
You too, to you too, listen. Thank you so much
for showing interest in this. It's if we can start
a conversation going here. I do believe it will make
a difference, so thank you so much.
