Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's get an update for the Gold Coast reweather from
a weather expert. We have the chief forecaster. His name
is Thomas from Higgins Storm Chasing. Tell us about this storm.
We're looking at the radar right now, still a lot
of rain still to come and swirling around.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Yeah. I mean if it actually ends up getting there,
the system doesn't want to move, which is annoying. We
want to just be over and done with already.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Yes, yes, So what does it mean if the system's
going so slowly? Is there a chance that it picks
up more moisture and is going to have a bigger dump.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
It could, But to be fair, I think the system
is just struggling in general. I think that's actually part
of the reason why the winds have weirdly gotten stronger
of the Gold Coast this evening. With these system sometimes
when they start to dissipate, they can expand their wind
field a lot, and that's now gone down through the
Gold Coast and tweed. It's just losing all those characteristics

(00:51):
and I'm hoping that leads to the rain not being
as bad. But of course if it does push west,
it pushes all that rain back in on land, which
will not be a good situation.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
So how much are we expecting and what do you
think will actually happen.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
That's the golden question at the moment that everyone is
trying to answer. Every model in the world for the
last twenty four hours has been bang on saying this
thing will move west, and it's not. It's doing its
own little thing at the moment. We think part of
the reason for that is because it's so weak. It's

(01:25):
such a weak system right now in terms of a low.
If it does move west, then we are looking at
some pretty decent totals up around that probably two hundred
to four hundred milimeter range. If it doesn't, it could
just be a kind of one of those wet and
windy nights that actually really isn't that bad from the

(01:46):
rain perspective.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Can it peter out in the next twenty four hours,
Like could we wake up tomorrow morning and the weather's
starting to get fine.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
The weather won't get fine, but the system itself definitely
could continue to weaken. The only reason did I say
it won't get fine is because regardless of the system
being there, we're going to have this on shore flow anyway,
which is just speeding into a moist air mass.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Gusts of wind overnight and more rain.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Basically, yeah, I think the Goldcrest got a ninety five
k GUS just a little early this evening. I would
suspect winds around that sixty to ninety range throughout the night.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
What was the biggest gust of win we had during
the cyclone period?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
The Goldcrest Seaway, which is the only official gauge that
we do have, did record a one oh seven. Very
very likely that there were higher gusts going through like
surface paradise and stuff. There will probably gusts up there
around the one ten, one twenty. We do know that
a private weather station at Beachmont got a one forty
one k GUS, so that's certainly up there.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Well, it's still gusty now that ninety five columbud a
gust a couple of hours ago. I was driving at
the time, I think because I went from sixty to
ninety five really fast, it got right behind me. I
didn't even know what was happening over and took my
hands off the wheel.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
I went.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
We Yeah, they can be a bit like that, Thomas.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
We appreciate you are really busy at this time and
We thank you for taking the time to have a
minute to talk to us and give us an update
on the weather and the forecast for the Gold Coast.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Thank you, not a problem, You're a legendmate. Thank you.
