My name is Roger.
Along with me are my goodfriends and co-host.
We have Uh-oh.
Oh, no wait, hold on, let's trythat again.
There we go, phil, the CEO ofGamer Heads.
Phil, I hate the machine, youhate the machine.
(01:26):
Well, welcome, phil.
Welcome to the show, but I digthe song yeah.
And then we also have.
What a sad song.
Yeah, wait until you, waituntil I hear this.
And then we also have my goodfriend and co-host, mike Mike.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Somehow that was even
worse than last week.
Well, so I had finally grownaccustomed to my last song and I
was getting ready.
You saw me getting ready.
Yeah, and now you do just abasic slide with no, I didn't.
You're gonna do something likethat, roger.
At least do the Mel Blankrubber band song you know from
(02:05):
the Looney Tunes, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Well, we didn't have
the budget for that in marketing
actually.
So what happened was last weekmarketing said Mark in marketing
said that was too long.
That was too long, we have tocut it back.
So they heard that you reallyliked the slide whistle, so they
gave me the slide whistle.
I don't want to rap to go overMike's song.
Well, I'm sorry.
I know we also talked to Mark, but we also have a very special
(02:28):
guest.
We have Baron from Level 1Gaming.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Yeah, yeah, I feel
like I have to come in like a
radio jockey, Like, yeah, we'recoming in live and riding the
waves and hopefully everybody'sgetting home safe.
Yeah, it's Baron J6-7.
And you're riding down sittinghere at Gamer Heads Radio.
(02:59):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
That was awesome.
Yeah, for sure, for sure.
So marketing wanted to makesure that you got a really good
splash with the music andeverything you liked.
It Was that good.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
That was perfect.
I feel, like I got the warmestof welcomes.
That was beautiful.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Good, good, good.
That was our intent.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
It sounded like my
woman from Tokyo.
The song did.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
I was thinking
hot-blooded oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah, it was a little
bit like that.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I think they're both
by foreigner, aren't they?
Yeah, they are.
See and hot-blooded.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Oh no, not the first
one.
I don't think that's fromforeigner.
Is it Hot-blooded?
No, hot-blooded is.
I don't know if my girl fromTokyo is that from foreigner too
.
I don't know man.
I just know it.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
It is Trash rock is
not my wheelhouse.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
I just felt like I
was on pirate radio.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah, that's
beautiful.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
It definitely gave me
that vibe.
I'm coming in from the basement, yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Oh, I love it.
Deep purple, deep purple, yeah,yeah.
Well, welcome to the show.
Welcome to the show, baron.
Before we get into everythingthe news and what we're playing
and stuff like that why don'tyou tell us a little bit about
yourself and level one gaming?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Yeah.
So hey, folks, I am Baron, ourBaron J67.
Yes, my real name is Baron andI am the communications director
and owner of, or a part ownerof, lv1gamingcom.
We are a small site that coverseverything from news and
reviews and everything inbetween, which means the whole
(04:41):
thing, and it's pretty cool.
I love it.
I was a random guy on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I never wrote before
formally.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
It was always college
and school and stuff like that.
I actually hated writing.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Because you didn't
write about video games.
That's why.
That's why, exactly, it wasalways like the forced
assignments.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
And then I was in
psychology so we had to do APA
and it was just all this crapand I hated it.
It just felt it's funny, right.
And now here it is.
I'll wake up one day and aspark will go off and I'll write
three, four articles and I'llbe sitting there for fun and I'm
like, oh no, I could definitelyflesh that out, but no.
(05:28):
So I was given an opportunity byour head, david Whitaker, our
famous entertainment.
Much love to that guy, becauseI definitely was a random dude
on Twitter who had only beendoing video game reaction videos
on YouTube.
I love trailers, absolutelylove trailers.
I'll go back and watch.
(05:48):
I still think of Dead Island'soriginal trailer, one of the
most beautiful trailers in theworld.
Dead Island's original trailer, one of the most beautiful
things ever.
I highly and for those whohaven't watched it, because
there's probably a bunch ofpeople who aged out- and don't
know about that trailer.
Go and watch it.
It's worth it.
Don't play it, go watch it.
(06:09):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
So all the budget
went.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
That's right, that's
right.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
Into that beautiful
five minute movie, but no.
So I always did trailerreactions and did YouTube
content and I got a wild hair upmy butt and was like you know
what I want to write?
And I seen Level 1 Gaming andDavid had put up a tweet like
(06:37):
hey, we're looking for writers.
And I hit them up and he waslike just send me a sample.
I was actually more scared ofhearing yes than no, because I
used to sell life insurance.
So a young dude in their 20selling life insurance, I was
hearing no all day Like are youready?
for the rest of your life.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Are you ready for?
Not for the rest of your lifeor your?
Speaker 4 (07:01):
affairs.
In order you know what you'regoing to leave behind for your
loved ones, and I'm sitting herebarely any hair on my face.
I heard a lot of no's.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
I heard a lot of no's
.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
But you know he told
me, yes, he was like just send
me a sample.
I wrote an article about howRockstar created the Golden
Goose and GTA 5.
But it's also a gift and acurse, because before GTA 5, 10
years before, they had 13different IPs and then, 10 years
(07:35):
after, they've had two, andit's just.
But what do you tell a companywho created the perfect game
Like, even though everybody'sall excited for GTA 6 on the
future, they didn't have tocreate it.
They could have seriously justwrote out the rest of ever with
GTA 5.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Right.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
But yes, so that's
that's how I got into the space
and then, you know, worked myway up, got on a few podcast
episodes and now I'm a owner.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, that's awesome.
And like you are the nicest, one of the nicest people I've
ever met in this industry.
Like you, like you know, seeyou.
Like hey, how's it going?
Big hugs, right.
And like just you know, it's sofun to see you.
And the other fun thing is youwere on the couch for was it
(08:25):
giant bomb Right?
Was that was?
Speaker 4 (08:26):
yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
I was like I know
that guy and it's like I know
Jill and I know him, both ofthem.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Jill is so freaking
cool.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Jill is one of the
coolest people ever.
But no, I was.
I was so terrified Because itfinally solidified like, hey,
man, you know you do a littlemore than just post articles
like and you're on the big stageat this point, like this is one
of the at that point in time, that was the biggest stage in
(08:59):
gaming.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
And you were there
and then the next night you know
you had Phil Spencer sittingexactly.
Yeah, holy crap.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
And it just you know
people are cool and you're
meeting folks that you've beenreading their work for years and
you know it, just like bam, they're here and they're
treating you as an equal, as apeer, and it's like holy crap,
and my room's supposed to be,you know, you go to security and
I'm like Baron and they're likeyeah, here yeah.
(09:32):
Go, go, right up.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
That's awesome.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
It was.
It was nerve wracking.
That's what you know.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Do you know what Phil
Spencer said?
Actually he was like Baron satin this chair yesterday.
That's amazing.
That's what I hear.
That's the rumors.
That's the rumors.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Look, I'm going to
tell you, if that was the case,
I wouldn't have.
I'd walk around with a crown onmy head.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
You're like I
wouldn't be talking to you,
assholes right now.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
What am I doing on
gamer hands?
Why am I here?
What, what do you mean?
That's why I told you after youagreed to be on the show.
Yeah, yeah.
That's how you keep me level, well, until yeah, and then you
can go on, and you know, but atthis time Lord over the gaming.
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Exactly.
Get rid of the glasses and gettwo monocles.
Yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
It has to be two.
That's what I'm saying yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
And then, one's all
like a one's clipped and then
one's like a wrap.
Oh, steampunk, yeah, oh yeah,oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Next time I see you,
I expect to see that actually
yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
I have to be all the
way.
I'm trying to look around forthings Like it's just you know,
oh yeah, oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
The other thing I
want to say, though, about
missing you praises here, because the other thing that I
think the so kind of you.
You've said this before.
You said this.
I've seen you tweet this.
I've seen you say this onpodcasts.
I've seen you say this on theon the giant bombcast.
Right, I see, I love helpingpeople and if they want to get
in this industry, like, reachout to me and I will help you.
(11:27):
And I was just thought that wasso great because it's you
paying forward and I said thatwas awesome.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
And you know, you
know I'm going to tell you
what's actually really creepy ismost people don't reach out and
it's the craze, it's thecraziest thing, because I have
no problem.
I've sat down and helped peoplestart up some podcasts so many
times.
I mean where we're sitting hereand we're screen sharing and
I'm walking them through and youknow, just because somebody did
(11:53):
it for me, like somebody satfor hours helping me go through
my audio and running fordifferent softwares just to get
it to route proper, likesomebody took the time for me.
So it's the best thing I can doand, honestly, all it does is
help us grow, like I love.
When Luke over at the Xboxpodcast, luke lore, I can't
(12:15):
believe I just butchered hispodcast.
He's going to kill me, but um,but no, um.
He, like he always says, uh,rising tide, you know, raises
all ships, like we all can.
There's enough internet in theeyes for all of us.
Yeah, the internet is a verybig place.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yeah, yeah, boy, I
wish I had somebody that kind of
guide me when I first startedthem.
And nice, geez.
Yeah, phil, I wish we had abudget to do that, geez.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
He spent it all on
the slide whistle.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
If you just would
have bought a dollar store,
because we'd still have money inthe budget.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
I'm going to let this
box my own theme, like I asked
him.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
He's like every time
the whistle.
You just see the further andfurther in the red.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
I got a little like
thermometer on the right hand
side of my screen that everytime the whistle goes up it just
goes down and like yeah, it'snot revenue, there it is.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Oh no, oh no, and it
goes up and down, yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
We lost three
listeners with that too.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
L's all the way
around.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Oh man.
Well, Baron, it's so awesome tohave you on the show.
Oh, I didn't mean to call youoff.
Were you going to say somethingelse.
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
I was going to say no
, no, no, no.
I was going to keep riding thatwave.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Yeah, yeah, keep
riding it, Keep riding, yeah,
keep going.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Yeah and no, yeah, it
just L's all the way around.
You know, we're just sittingthere you know what did they say
?
It's a bear.
It's a bear podcast.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Yeah, that's right,
that's right.
Well, some it's some kind ofpodcast, that's for sure.
Anyway, yes, it's really I'm soglad that that you're able to
join us and, like I said, you'resuch an awesome person and
seeing you in person was so funtoo and, like, yeah, just love
hanging out with you.
So, thank you so much forjoining us.
(14:05):
See you at.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
PAX East.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Yes, yes, I will.
I'm hoping that one of theseother two come along with me,
but we'll see Party party party.
Yeah, yeah, all right, let's getinto some news.
The first thing I'm going totalk about here is I, I wasn't
going to talk about it, and thenI decided to talk about it.
Because I'm going to talk aboutit.
And the reason I wasn't goingto talk about it?
(14:28):
Because it feels like it'sstill in flux and it feels like
there's still some unansweredquestions and there's some
pivoting, it feels like.
So maybe by the time you hearthis, things might have changed
completely.
I don't know.
I'm referencing, if you haven'tguessed so far, is the news
about unity and how they aregoing to charge for downloads.
I think they call them runtimefees.
(14:51):
So anytime the game getsdownloaded, they will charge a
fee to the, to the, to thepublisher, to the, to the
developer, and the fees arebased on two things One, what
level of unity you have.
So, if you're on the personalor pro which is very strange to
(15:12):
me because, like a lot of peopleprobably have the pro,
especially if you're an indiedev you probably have the pro.
If you have met 200,000downloads of your game and you
met the threshold of $200,000,you will get charged a fee of 20
cents for every download thatyou have.
And then if you have the Ithink it's enterprise and
(15:33):
premier, I don't remember theother the other tier was there
was another tier.
So if you had that tier, whichis a more expensive one again,
you had to meet the threshold of200,000 downloads $200,000.
And then, based on how manydownloads this is where it gets
really convoluted.
If you get like one to 100,000downloads past the threshold,
they charge you like 12 cents, and then past that is like seven
cents, and then past that islike three cents, and then,
(15:55):
finally, if you get a milliondownloads that they charge you a
penny per download past thethreshold.
It's so convoluted and it's socrazy.
But I was doing a little bit ofmath on this.
Oh, because, like the otherthing I want to mention here, so
initially it was came out thatit would be every download.
And what is so funny?
What are you laughing at forthat?
What's so funny?
(16:16):
Just how I'm getting.
I guess I worked up about this.
Oh not even that Okay, I said Isent Phil.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
I've been building up
this joke all day, so I'm just
I'm getting ready.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Oh, you're ready.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Okay, wait till
you're done.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Okay, okay, I'm
almost done.
I'm just going to go with mylittle rant here and then I'll
open up the floor.
So it initially was that everydownload would be charged.
So if I would download it andthen I removed it, my system,
and downloaded again, it was acharge.
But they said no, no, no, no.
(16:49):
If it's not, if it's not aredownload, that's not going to
count anymore.
But if I buy that on the Xboxand I buy it on steam and I buy
it on Nintendo switch, that doescount as three downloads.
So that's one thing.
The other thing that'sinteresting is Game Pass.
Oh, are there any otherservices like that?
But I'm going to bring up GamePass.
They said that they will chargeMicrosoft the charge and then
(17:10):
Microsoft will go back andcharge.
Well, it's up to them if theywant to charge a developer, I
guess, which is reallyfascinating, because Microsoft
certainly didn't sign up forthis and that was not part of
the deal and like so.
So I did quick numbers on this.
So I was looking at vampiresurvivors and I'm just looking
at.
I just looked, because theydidn't show me the download base
for the number of downloads forMicrosoft.
(17:33):
So there's 25 million.
Microsoft says they have 25million players, or user based
on Game Pass, so just take thatinto consideration.
So I didn't include that, though, but if you looked at
their downloads, they showed methe downloads, for the Android's
app was 1.75 million downloads.
Oh, by the way, here's the otherthing that's really interesting
the whole threshold of $200,000, 200 downloads 200,000
(17:58):
downloads is retroactive, so ithappens now.
So the effect of the fees go inon January 1st, but the
downloads are happening, actually now back as, I think,
two years, as back as two years.
So think about them, thinkabout this it grew.
Yeah, exactly.
So I did the math.
I think it came to like$300,000 that Vampire Survivors
(18:21):
would owe just for the Android, the same game.
Yeah, exactly, that's just onAndroid.
That's not counting Steam, that's not counting whatever
Microsoft you know, the gamepass downloads.
That doesn't count the Nintendodownloads that just came out,
or pirated games, or pirated, that's the other thing.
(18:43):
And so there's so the otherfunny thing about that.
So people brought that up andsaid what about pirated games?
Or what about people that wantto bankrupt us and we'll just
download the games over and overagain just to ruin us, and
they're like well, just let usknow if that happens and we'll
look into it.
Oh, and we're not going to showyou the algorithm and how we
figure this stuff out or what wetrack, because that's
proprietary information and wedon't want to share that with
(19:04):
you.
Super shady, super awful.
I can't believe this ishappening and like the
developers in the industry havelike rallied around this and
they're not happy.
So, yeah, I'll open the floor.
What do you do?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Nintendo Suze them,
or Microsoft.
Well, nintendo Suze everybodyis Well, true, true, they just
don't bat an eye at it.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Well, you know,
because because the other game,
another game is the any free toplay games.
So Pokemon Unite, yep.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
That's going to be
charged.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Mm, hmm.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Yep, oh yeah, I like
how transactions pay for that.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
You know, the thing
that scares me the most about
this is the how.
Not clear it Like it's just too, and then I'm worried that
games are going to Okay.
This is what I think is aboutto happen 10 foil hat time yeah.
I think, you're going to seephysical copies of these games
(20:08):
skyrocket to the hundreds, totwo hundred three hundred
dollars.
We're going to be looking atflappy bird numbers from all of
these games because it happenedwith flappy bird.
People forget what went downwith flappy bird or with the PT
demo on PlayStation fours.
Oh yeah, these, these thingsgot up to thousands Like oh, I
(20:28):
got a phone with flappy bird onit.
What?
Four hundred five hundred bucks,Easy.
So now you're going to belooking at the switch,
especially the Nintendo switchversions of any of these games.
Those things already areexpensive to begin with.
Now you so you got the Nintendotax and then you tap or tack on
what the market's going to dowith all of this info and then
(20:49):
you hear horror stories like Idon't know if you guys seen it
Cole to the lamb came out andwas like hey, yeah, you guys
better go and buy it, becauseJanuary 1st we're taking it down
, because you can't even risk it.
Yeah because there's no clarity.
Yeah, as if I was running acompany I wouldn't even risk it.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
I would be terrified
because, yeah, that much liquid
money, just right around andit's random every month, you
don't know what, because they'llcharge you every month.
So one month you might becharged really a lot of money.
In the next month Maybe youdidn't have as many downloads so
they don't charge you as much.
Right, it's so influx.
As an indie developer, this isgoing to crush the indie like
crush the indie scene.
(21:28):
When it's so sad, because Ifeel like this is the moment
where we start to see the riseof the indies.
Right, like everybody was likeoh, this is what's, this is
where the, this is where themagic is happening is an indie
world and this is going to crushthe indie scene.
It's awful.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
What do you think the
chance are that just this means
an increase in the price ofgames.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Well, that can't be
too high yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yeah, yeah, they're
going to have to yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
Or is getting an
indie game for 40 bucks.
A top tier indie game is over.
Yeah 3999 indie games.
You're going to be seeing a 50and 70 like it's.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
It's as to five
dollar vampire survivors.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
That's not going to
happen anymore.
And then what about?
Ok, so I, I'm one of thoseweirdos who has humble bundle
PlayStation, yeah, and Game Pass, humble bundle their whole.
Now I did see something talkingabout how they were like oh,
charities, yes, bypasses that.
So, maybe humble bundle haslike a they kind of curve that
(22:32):
because every exception part.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
But then again, how
does, how does unity know?
Like are they going?
Speaker 2 (22:41):
to have to report.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
Like hey we sold a
thousand humble bundle keys.
Here's the codes that went out, like what's the system going to
be?
And then the whole just trustme, it'll work.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Yeah, and trust me,
after we just came up with this
really shady system, trust us onhow we're going to figure out
the algorithm on the back side.
Like that is the craziest to me, mike, you had, you had a joke,
you wanted to say unity morelike screw you, nitty.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
I.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
So glad, I was so
glad we.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Are we running this
program off of unity?
Speaker 4 (23:35):
No but you know it
scared me the most, right or
what.
Somebody brought up the pointon the on our show the other
night.
They were like what if theywould announce this right before
packs West?
Speaker 1 (23:46):
yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Cuz every game that
I'm excited about yeah it's made
in unity.
Yeah like Merthwood the gamethat yeah yes running around
like a, like a zealot.
Anybody who asked me also, how's your packs?
Hey, have you checked outMerthwood?
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
Merthwood and you
know I I made the mistake of
starting to look at games that Iwas happy about and looking
forward to and seeing when theywere made.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Oh, no, they were all
in unity.
Don't do it.
Please don't do it to yourselfbecause it'll.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
It'll like.
This is like you said it up,it's gonna crumble.
It has the potential to crumblethe indie scene.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Crumble it because.
I would shut down, I wouldn'trisk it.
Yeah, okay, let's, let's talkabout that, cuz how do you even?
But you don't even budget forthis.
No, you can't.
You can't your business plan.
And now it's like, well, Idon't want to have a successful
game.
Yeah, successful game, it's gotlike nothing.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Yeah how do you like,
and oh my god, I don't
understand how they can twoyears back tax on that shit
either.
Like everybody, that's thatmoney that they've made off of
those games already beingreinvested into making no, no so
so.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
So they're not,
they're not gonna charge you.
They're not gonna charge youthe back text.
What they're gonna do is saythe threshold is 200, 200
downloads, 200,000 downloads.
Oh, you already reached that ayear and a half ago.
Cool, you're gonna get chargedJanuary 1st.
Oh you, the threshold is$200,000.
Oh, you right, you met thatthreshold a year and a half ago.
Cool, january 1st we're gonnastart charging you now for every
(25:22):
download that happens as ofJanuary 1st.
That's, that's what they'rebacktracking.
They're track tracking theirthreshold of number of downloads
and number of the profit thatyou made, the, the and the other
thing.
Like.
To me it's like the look at,look at the tears I said this
before like the 20 cents.
It's 20 cents a download forpeople that have pro.
(25:43):
That's the lowest, while notthe lowest.
Actually, personal is thelowest, which is also really
strange to me.
So I know unity a little bit, because I have unity on my
computer and and so a personalaccount doesn't charge you
anything.
You can have a personal account, but if you have a game that
makes $200,000, then you have tobuy the pro account.
That's how it worked and it'slike cool if you're in, if
(26:05):
you're like small, small, small, and you're like I'm not gonna
make, I'm gonna make a game, butit's not gonna make a lot of
money.
You can have a personal account, it won't be a big deal, but
now the way that structured it'slike no, even if you have a
personal account, like you, well, I guess you would hit the
$200,000 threshold and then theywould charge you, but they
would charge you more becauseyou have a lesser account than
those that have the premiere andthe, the enterprise accounts,
(26:27):
which are more expensive.
So that's the other thing.
But I don't know peopleunderstand this.
But when you get a unity seat, they're called seats.
So if I had a company and Iwanted a bunch of developers
working, I had to buy a seat forevery one of my developer,
which is a yearly fee at the payfor every one of those seats,
right, so that's a charge that Iget charged every year for
having unity on my on mycomputers and have my developers
(26:48):
having those unity or thosethose seats.
That's still happening.
But you know the ones that arebuying the Lord here, cuz like
they're indie devs, right, theycan't afford their enterprise
tier because enterprisesProbably people for, like the
ea's in the world and you know, the bigger companies, world
triple-a companies, those smallcompanies are gonna get screwed
over.
This is terrible, this is awful, this is the worst.
(27:10):
And one thing I'll just say hereand then.
I'm sorry now I'm talking a lothere, but one thing that Baron
and I were talking about beforethe show is you know, I we're
small, we're small potatoes inregards to the media right.
Like I wouldn't say like we'renot like fly by night, but you
know, we're not the big nameswhen it comes to media right.
But where is our bread andbutter when we go?
(27:32):
Like we indies love talking tous because, like, we help
promote them right by talkingabout their games and then
reviewing their games, and they, they want their games to be out
in in media's hands, and thebig, the big journalists like
don't always have time to reviewIndie games.
So this is where, like, we fillthat space right, that's gonna
dry up for us, like, becauseCompany indie games are not, and
(27:56):
I don't blame them they'regonna be real picky about who
they give codes up to now, and IDon't know.
Like this, I think, like thatthat whole ecosystem is gonna
just die.
One last, okay, I said one lastthing, and this is gonna be my
last thing.
I'll say the CEO, classic Roger.
This is a classic movie.
Yeah, the CEO is name excatesme right now.
(28:19):
He used to be the CEO of Usedto be the CEO of EA as well, and
when he was the EA, heintroduced loot boxes to like
FIFA and other games, right.
And then EA fired him becausethey weren't making any money.
They were losing money, although in his defense, so as
(28:39):
the whole rest of the industry.
But they fired him and then hebecame the head of unity and he
said some pretty shady thingsabout how, like, oh, like how
games make money and stuff.
Like, like he's, he does it.
He is not in it for thecreative aspect of games, right.
He's in it for just making asmuch money as he can so, and I
(29:01):
get it my question as well yeah, what happens?
Speaker 3 (29:04):
What are the chances
that all these smaller indie
devs are just gonna quit usingit?
Well, that's the other thing.
Else, that's gonna fuck unityand then drive unity out of
business because this guy.
Yes, like here's 100% that's.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
That's the other
thing's gonna happen.
I think, in the middle groundhere, right where you have a
developer that's two years inthe making of their game, or
three years in the Making of thegame, what are they gonna do?
They're about to launch it.
They can't just say, well, Idon't know, you know, I can't
just take this and move it toanother platform because that's
not how it works, right, but sodo we think?
Speaker 3 (29:35):
do we think that
we'll see like a lull as?
Far as like maybe yes maybedevs are doing where they're
suddenly gonna be like alright,we've been using unity forever,
so fuck unity, now we're gonnaback petal and use something
else.
Yes starting from square oneagain.
Now we're gonna have to learnthis new system, this new
programming system, and it'sjust gonna reset everything, so
there might be like year and ahalf year delay, of where we
don't see a lot of indie games.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Yeah, and I and I
question what the synthesis is.
The part that I feel like thisis the part that I don't like
about this, because I feel likeUnity is like and I shouldn't
say unity again it's not.
It's not the people that workat unity, it's the Upper people
that are making these decisions, right, but they are thinking we
got them where we want them.
(30:16):
What are they gonna do?
Go to a different platform?
That's never gonna happen,right, and it's to a point.
It's true, because there areother platforms out there
obviously have unreal engine, but you also have Game makers.
Well, but game maker I mean, INot real familiar with game
maker, but I feel like itdoesn't have as much oomph as
(30:39):
unity does.
Like unity is pretty cool whereyou can you have all the, the
interface and then you can build, like C, sharp code for things
that you need and then it theycan say, okay, expose the code
to the UI interface for unityand then I can start using it in
unity, like it's.
It's pretty cool that you canhave programmers do the
programming and then people thatdo the game design actually
(31:00):
just focus on unity in In unity, like there's.
There's a lot of reallypowerful tools in unity.
But that's where I feel likethey felt like, yeah, we have,
the more we want them and we'lljust take their money and
there's nothing they can doabout it.
But I do think, phil, that'swhat's gonna happen.
Is there gonna be a lull in inindie games At some point, like
at this point, everything isannounced well, even that I
(31:20):
think some of India developersare wondering Should we even
release the game?
Like what's the point at?
Speaker 4 (31:24):
this point.
Honestly, you could risk youryour livelihood, yeah, by by
releasing a game.
Yeah and I made that.
I made the joke alive.
I was like, oh man, imagine ifDave the diver Was made in unity
.
And they were like it is yeahbut, Think about it like every
(31:45):
game wants to be successful, butevery game doesn't think
they're gonna be a Dave thediver come out of nowhere, hit a
major home run, be everywhereon every platform, top trending
on twitch, every you know big, crazy number.
Nobody expects that.
And now that's a punishment.
Yeah, yeah and.
But check this out.
(32:06):
So tinfoil had time again.
I love this stuff.
Right like I'm not heavy in thebusiness.
But you know, when you kind ofjust see something that doesn't
make sense, it's like, oh, waita minute.
So over the course of a year, the CEO, john Richard tell I'm
(32:28):
Borble with names.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Yeah, richard, oh, oh
, there's an oh at the end.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah
.
So he sold up to 50,000 shares, yes, and has bought none, yes,
over the course of a year.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Yes, that's what I
heard tears.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
Here's, here's my
tinfoil hat, and I made the joke
.
I was like man.
The only way they're gonna beable to make a comeback is under
a different name.
Tada, you keep everything thesame and you fold it and All the
software and properties isstill there and you just rebrand
it under something else, undersomebody else, and Tada, what a
(33:08):
what a way to lower your valueand Announce something absurd.
And then people still not, because the properties and the
you know, every the IP as thefunction of unity would still be
under wherever owns that.
Yeah, now, once again, this isall complete.
Yeah, it kind of makes sense.
I mean, yeah, it happened witha couple of other stores.
(33:31):
Like, it's not the mostuncommon thing ever, not at all.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
And when you see
somebody like the CEO selling
50,000 shares over the course ofa year by none, and then you
see a crazy announcement thatundercuts the whole structure of
the business, it sounds likeyou're trying to melt it down.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Yeah, it's usually a
pretty good indication where the
direction of things are goingwhen your CEO is suddenly just
dumping a shitload of sharesLike it's just like, oh yeah we
see what, bill.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
What are you doing
with our shares?
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Not enough Slide
whistles apparently.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
That's funny, you
know, yeah, I mean so.
I'll say the other flips sideof the coin, right, like so you,
I mean Twitter blew up overthis stuff, right, and like
social media blew up.
One thing I will say I do not,I do not condone, obviously.
But then I also read todaythere's a lot of death threats
against Offices.
(34:31):
So there there's offices in SanFrancisco and in Texas and I
can't remember the other one.
There was like three officesthat they closed their doors
because of all the death threatsthat they're getting.
Again, not those people's fault, they're not the ones that are
like not that I condone deaththreats on anybody, but I'm just
saying like, obviously, that is.
That is not the direction weshould be going.
(34:53):
Obviously, like I like the factthat these Indies studios are
standing together saying this isnot acceptable.
Like, change your ways.
Although, even if they changetheir ways, they they broke the
trust.
They could say, oh, you knowwhat, we're not gonna do that.
And then, three months later, they're like gotcha, we're gonna
do it again, right, likethere's nothing stopping them
from doing it again.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Wow, it's very
frustrating, it's it's scary and
then it Sad, but true we'regonna, it's gonna hit us.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
And it's crazy cuz
it's gonna hit us as Journalists
, is gonna hit us as consumers.
It's gonna hit and then it justit's gonna mess up the momentum
.
I think that's what bothers methe most is the momentum in what
you've been seeing with indiesand indie games almost winning
game of the year Legitly oh, youknow right right and like you,
(35:47):
just you and I didn't realizehow many games use unity like I
didn't know.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Majority it's either
Unreal or unity.
Right and unreal is liketypically you're like big, like
open world, yeah, yeah, yeah andI suspect is because the cost
is much higher for unreal aswell, and their engines can do
more than what unity can do.
I mean, you can build 3d gameand unity, but I'm just saying
like unreal is where those thosego.
(36:17):
The other thing I'll say, too,is like this, this is, this is
this parts.
This is the part that breaks myheart too is because, as a
reviewer, like yes, we getreview codes, we review games.
Like that is our, that is ourgig.
Right, that's what we do.
But there are times where I'mlike I really love this game.
I'm gonna go out and buy it onthe switch.
I got it for the Xbox.
I'm gonna go buy it for theswitch so I can give that dev
(36:37):
developer some money.
Because, like this is a coolgame and and I should support
them because this is awesome.
Now it's like gonna be.
I want to support you, but Ican't because it's gonna hurt
you in the pocketbook.
Like it's just dumb.
This is the dumbest.
I cannot.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
I cannot get over how
stupid this is as you say that
I just bought Horus yesterdayagain for the second time.
So yeah, on the switch and onthat, and Horus is developed in
unity.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Yeah oh, also they go
this if you have it on this, if
you have it on your computer, and steam and you have a steam
deck.
That's two downloads.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Did you see the image
a developer made, yaakov I
forgot his last name, but hemade rain on your parade.
He put an image out and it wasof somebody Putting in a switch
cartridge and then taking it out, and it was like 20 cents, like
that's that's essentially whatWould be.
What was happening like yeah, put it in, take it out 20 cents
(37:36):
20 cents.
Nuts, yeah, I didn't you knowwhat is it gonna be tied to like
?
So with the physicals.
So if I buy a new switch and Iinstall it, does that you'll
count?
Speaker 1 (37:52):
because, because,
because all the games right now,
like Outside of, like obviouslyretro games, but new games,
like there are calls out to theweb service to get information
right, to get down right, theremight be updates and stuff that
so they are doing web calls outto get this information.
Well, you know, they know isunity will be able to see that.
They'll be able to see thesepings and they'll be like cool,
(38:14):
that's another download that weget, like that's physical copy,
we're gonna take that money likethere's nothing.
But I'm assuming that we don'tknow because unity is not
sharing anything about theirthere, like how the structure
works.
But I would assume that evenphysical copies, because of the
fact that it's, all you know, interconnected with the web,
they'll know.
They'll know they're looking atrun times and the runtime is
(38:36):
gonna be hit when it's going outto a server to get some
information, whether it be likesaving scores out there or
whatever the case is, there'sgonna be a hit, a ping to some
web service and they'll know.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
You know what's, you
know what else.
My final point on it, because Ireally could talk about this
all night.
So scary right, um, but thepart that I feel like the burden
of Of proof is gonna fall onthe devs, so they're just gonna
keep charging you until you goin and say, hey, no.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
Yeah, these were you
750 and we actually sold five.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Yeah, and but it's
gonna be on us Now.
We still had to pay and but.
But then the ownership of games, like somebody brought up that
question.
Like, does this mean I even ownmy game anymore?
Speaker 1 (39:24):
right, like I,
apparently you do does.
Yeah, it's weird, it's sofrustrating.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
I don't get it.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
I don't either.
So heartbreaking, mike.
Do you have any final thoughtson this?
I I'd you've been kind of quietand I don't want to make sure
you get your time in if youwanted to say something Besides
the joke that you dropped.
It was amazing.
There's a great joke.
It's not too funny, yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Gredges on unity.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Yeah it is is it as
well, and I bought that game
twice.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yep, gonna start
Looking into getting some
physical copies.
I wasn't planning.
I have dredge on Xbox.
I Might go on my pickupphysical same with call to the
land.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
Yep, yeah, but I
still think they're gonna.
They'll be able to track that.
Even if you get a physical copy, they'll they'll be able to
track that.
My, my guess is what they'llrun time.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
There's a runtime.
Well, my guess is, what they'lldo is that they'll pre-charge,
like if.
If a developer says thatthey're gonna make X amount of
physical copies for a game, they're gonna be like okay, that
means you're gonna sell Xamount of copies of a game.
Oh my god, the market is deadfrom it Like they're just gonna
pre-charge, is what they'regonna do, because I don't really
think because I coulddisconnect my box from the
internet or my switch from theinternet.
(40:46):
I can put my physical copy and Ican insert it and it'll still
download, regardless if it'sconnected the internet or not,
so it's not gonna be able tokeep track that way.
So I think what they'll end updoing is just pre-charging.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Yeah, maybe.
Yeah, I mean, I was justthinking cuz like yeah, I'm
sorry, baron, go ahead.
I didn't mean to cut you out.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
No, no it what you
said earlier, phil.
Like the cost of games, it'sgonna skyrocket.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Yeah like it has to
yeah it.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Oh, I didn't even
think about the pre-charge.
It's.
It's crazy how we like take afew seconds and start like
pulling it apart.
It just there's another fee, another way, another problem,
and I, I just, oh, my, look, youknow what limited run and
freakin special reserve areabout to make a killing.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Oh yeah, maybe
they're like.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Right, like the one
people to win out of this or the
people trying to keep physicalgames going like it.
You're gonna see a surge inphysical games.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
It's gonna happen and
it makes me so angry and it
just it makes me so angrybecause I Think, I think we're
past the rise Sorry, roger, Ithink we're way past the rise of
the indie games.
I think we're in the golden era, right.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Yeah, no, I agree, I
agree.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
I'm I I'm brought
back to 2004 where a bunch of
like to that, those early 2000sera where a whole bunch of great
games we're coming out likebraid and other bunch.
Yeah, now we're in an era wherethese big budget games are
coming out once every five yearsas opposed to once every other
year.
But they've got these bigbudgets, but in the span in
(42:18):
between those five years, between those big budget games,
we have got the hundreds ofamazing Smaller games.
I prefer a game that I couldbeat in six to eight hours.
I don't want to play us ahundred and twenty hour Game.
You know, because you know Ilike to do different experiences
, so I that's why I love indiegames more.
(42:38):
And if this is gonna drivepeople to close their doors,
this is like an evil evil.
Like it does, it goes beyondgreedy.
Like this is evil.
This dude is like is man, isjust King douche.
Like I'm hoping, yeah, there'senough, there's enough pushback
that they decide not to do this.
(42:59):
But it's, and I'm not, I'm notworried.
Like people like you know, people like you know, like I
don't know, like like Nintendoand like Sony and them they've,
they got the money.
They could afford it.
That's no problem but again withall these like pumpkin Jack.
Do you remember pumpkin Jack?
Yeah, I just saw.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
I just saw it on sale
on Deku the deals I'm like, oh,
that's a great game.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Yeah, that's a good
game and we're gonna lose out on
games like that, oh think aboutthis.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
You won't see games
on sale anymore, because that
will encourage more downloads.
So much for tails from the shop.
Yeah, much for tails.
So but actually, that's actuallyanother good point because,
like, I'm thinking this is gonnakill the creative industry,
which it, which it will.
But the other thing it's gonnafight kill off is like these
(43:49):
games that are just fly by night, that there's like we know this
is trash but we're just hopingto make money on it.
They might also just kind ofdisappear.
Not, I'm not saying that's agood thing Because there's,
there is some kind of cult ishabout like there's something you
know.
I mean like it's, it's kind offun like net cult, like is in
the cult of lamb like.
(44:10):
Like there are people that, likeyou know, like that's the thing
about the beauty about videogames right now Is that there's
a game for everybody out thereand that's not gonna happen
anymore.
They're gonna be so much moreunless unless, of course, they
move off a unity and they sayMove on.
This is a perfect time.
If you, if you out there, ifhey, mr Developer, misdeveloper,
(44:32):
if you are coming up with aplatform to make games, this is
your moment.
This is your moment to shine, right?
Speaker 3 (44:36):
now we can get paid
yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
Anyway, no, I'm
talking about.
I'm talking about like makeyour own game maker platform.
Speaker 3 (44:45):
That's what I'm
saying yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
yeah, I, I did see.
Speaker 1 (44:48):
I did see a tweet by
I Did see a tweet by RPG maker
and they're like we're justsaying that you could make a
game on our system and then haveit other people play it.
I don't know, maybe that'srelative news now, I'm not sure,
but you can and I thought thatwas pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
It's heartbreaking.
Ah, so awful, so awful.
Yeah, I just thought about that, like, oh yeah, all those games
that are on sale, like no, likenormally, oh wow game that's
like 90% on sale.
This is amazing.
I'm gonna go get it like that'snot gonna happen anymore.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
It's not worth the
risk.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
Nope.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:30):
I'm feeling.
Speaker 3 (45:32):
Yeah right, that's,
crazy.
Speaker 1 (45:35):
Oh, or, or you know,
hey, order it now on presale to
get it discounted.
That's probably not gonnahappen anymore, right?
Oh man, dude, this is goodBaron.
Why did you bring us down, man?
Why did you?
Speaker 2 (45:53):
You know what the
best part is?
We're at the beginning Roger'slike oh, before we get started
in our news, I just want toquickly touch on something 45
minutes in 30 minutes.
Speaker 1 (46:04):
Yeah Well, should we
move on to Nicer things, a
happier things.
There was a Nintendo Direct anda state of play for PlayStation
, don't?
You said happy?
And nice.
Hey, oh hey, phil, today is aday.
(46:25):
Yeah, yeah, go ahead remake ofContra is yeah.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
Really cool.
I did that does look prettycool.
Yeah, I can't okay, I take itback.
Speaker 1 (46:36):
So what, let's do
this.
Can we go around the horn andsay, like our top, like couple
games that we're excited about, either from the state of play or
for our Nintendo Direct?
And then, and then, if you sawthe Nintendo, if you saw both of
them, I would like to see whatkind of grade you gave both of
those.
So, baron, since you're a guest, I'll start with you.
Oh, what are some of yourhighlights?
Speaker 4 (46:57):
So the Nintendo
Direct.
It was super easy because theone thing that stood out above
everything else was vanillawares.
Unicorn overlord, I am a lookcool.
I am a huge Orgher battle 64fan.
Like order, battle 64absolutely changed my life.
(47:19):
That that messed up how Iplayed video games, like if it
wasn't a deep Story withmultiple endings and being able
to choose your class.
From that point forward I Ijust couldn't really get into it
.
So it absolutely ruined me.
So to see something that lookslike a proper spiritual
(47:40):
successor, like Symphony of WarOver, from Freedom Games, that
got pretty close.
That gave me the feel of likethe old-school orger battles,
but this looks like over battle64 yeah and I Am nothing.
I didn't care about nothingelse.
I'm so happy for the Mario fans.
Speaker 1 (47:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (47:59):
I'm so happy.
I'm happy for them.
Good for you.
You got a cool movie and abunch of games coming.
Hopefully they don't pull themoff the store after four months.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Um, but yeah, that
happened.
Speaker 4 (48:13):
But that's what I I
was so happy about with With the
Nintendo Direct.
I didn't really care aboutanything else.
You'd be in chronicles, lookcool.
But you know that was delayedand we, I think that was
originally supposed to come outlike last year or two years ago.
Yeah, but yeah Now and then I'msupposed to.
So overall grade for me is likeeight, simply because of the
(48:34):
vanilla where, yeah, and thenunicorn overlord, I have no idea
.
Hopefully there's a unicorn inthe game.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
Yeah, maybe the
unicorn is the overlord and
that's like.
Speaker 4 (48:52):
Comes out.
It's all cast in all every typeof spell from freakin or that'd
be dope, but but but yeah, so Igive it a eight just because of
vanilla where.
And then the PlayStation Stateof play.
I'm happy we got release dates, like no, not even trying to be
(49:15):
like rude or anything like I'mtruly happy.
We got really and I'm thatcollector's edition of Final
Fantasy 7, part 7, part 8, and Ireally wish I had a extra.
I would.
(49:36):
I Wish my constellation editioncost five bucks so that I could
have bought that too, becausethat it looks bad as I would get
in trouble because I havenowhere to put it.
But it would be cool if you hada big ass set off, like just.
Like Rick flair, does you know?
(49:56):
He makes sure I get through myday.
Speaker 1 (50:15):
It's watching you.
You better be.
Speaker 4 (50:21):
Some people have
other Objects that watch.
Yeah, for power grace.
Yeah, you have, rick flair, I'm.
It's honestly.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
I mean, you got the
nature boy looking over you
about it.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
He's, that's right,
he's still kicking.
Speaker 3 (50:33):
Yeah, you got a long
time left on this world, brother
, yeah, yeah figure four writersblock.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Oh my gosh, that's
hilarious.
What was, what was your score?
What's your overall score forthe state of play then?
Speaker 4 (50:50):
a six.
Speaker 1 (50:51):
Yeah, a six.
Speaker 4 (50:52):
Yeah, no, it wasn't.
It wasn't horrible like it.
It was definitely not meant forus, because.
But, there's definitely a bunchof people out there who did not
know that there was anotherfinal fantasy 7 coming and they
finally, you know, got a releasedate.
Speaker 1 (51:13):
So yeah, the people
out there Apparently didn't know
spider-man 2 was coming outwhat?
Speaker 4 (51:17):
yeah, you know.
Yeah and then they're gonnahave like 60, some suits.
Hopefully it's not yeah, that'strue.
Speaker 1 (51:25):
That's true.
I'm sorry there's at some pointthere's too many suits, I'm
sorry.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
What point does
there's 67 the spider-man 68.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
No, there's one more
black light in the webbing.
Speaker 1 (51:42):
Yeah, that's right,
that's right, that's right,
that's right.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
Gloveless Hooded
spider-man, king spider-man,
yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:53):
No, I was fine with
most of them, but like 60, come
on really.
Speaker 4 (51:58):
And, and then I don't
even think they're all directly
tied to comics that would holdbetter thing like yeah.
Each suit had that issue behindit.
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah so cool, like each one, like hey, you
know, this is the first issue.
It was introduced you know cuzI know in the previous games
that used to do like a littlebit like the covers and shit.
(52:19):
Yes, yeah hopefully that isstill in there, because that
would that would be a robbedexperience especially for yeah,
yeah, yeah, 60.
Speaker 1 (52:31):
What else says
something like there's 60, but
then you can also customize themand like what are you doing?
Like that's.
I mean that's kind of cool, butalso like what.
Speaker 4 (52:41):
To the car wash.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
It's like Grand Theft
Auto style.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
That guy has seven
black boxes on the phone.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah he does swing from webs,
but that can't be him.
Yeah, probably yeah probablyVery cool, mike.
What, what did you what?
Okay, we'll start with theNintendo Direct.
What were your highlights fromthe Nintendo Direct?
Speaker 2 (53:23):
I liked this.
This was a good one.
It wasn't anything crazy or outof this world, but it had
enough announcements that mademe say, alright, I'm gonna call
out trombone champ first of all.
Yeah, I stole my thunder.
Well, I'm just calling it up.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (53:38):
I'm just saying, yeah
, I actually yeah, do that slide
?
Speaker 1 (53:43):
Oh yeah, I was gonna
say, should we, should we do
that.
Yeah, here we go.
Speaker 3 (53:46):
Currently developing
slide whistle champ on unity,
but no, About a huge hit.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
Just two notes.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
I Know a lot of
people are hating on it.
I don't know why, but I thinkthis new Prince of Persia looks
pretty nice.
Speaker 1 (54:05):
Oh, oh, it's amazing.
It was that packs a lot and itwas really cool looking.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Yeah, I'm looking
forward to that.
And then my these, these lasttwo.
This is my runner-up and my, myfavorite, my runner-up, mario
versus Donkey Kong, cuz I lovethose games.
Mmm, they're too hard.
They remind me how dumb I am,but that's okay, yeah, fun and
then I know it's it's are-release.
Oh yeah, well, contra already.
That's great.
I know it's a re-release and Idon't care.
(54:30):
Two raiders, one through three.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (54:36):
That's that's.
That's one of the thing when mywife and I were first dating.
That's what we bonded over.
That's, yeah, I mean so well,me playing and then her asking
me to do a swan dive off of abuilding.
I'm right on the pavement.
Yeah you want to see that again?
I did seriously All right, swandive, crack and she's left
maniacally.
Yeah, that's awesome, and then, and then we got married and
(54:58):
they come.
Speaker 1 (55:01):
It was one day, and
then we got married.
Speaker 4 (55:05):
Gaming.
It'll do it, that's right,that's right.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
So, yeah, a lot of
cool stuff in there.
You know I pre-ordered.
I just so, you know, in caseanybody's checking, the legend
of Zelda amiibo is now on theBest Buy website, so I
pre-ordered mine.
So, yeah, yeah, a lot of goodstuff.
I'd give it.
I'd give it a, b plus, justbecause, like there were a lot
of stuff to maybe say you knowwhat I like this, this makes me
happy.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
Did you see the stand
play?
Speaker 2 (55:32):
What can I say that
Baron hasn't already covered?
It was there, it was an event, but the thing is.
The thing I'll say is that Sonyreally tempered everybody's
expectations and said these aregames that you are already aware
of and a lot of our third partypartners.
So I'm not.
I'm gonna give it a C plus onlybecause, like my favorite
(55:53):
announcement wasn't from is athird party game and Phil, do
you know any of theannouncements that came out from
this state of play?
Speaker 3 (56:03):
I did a quick read, a
recap of a read, or read of a
recap, one of the two, whicheverway you want to phrase that.
So I mean I quickly glanced atit, so I don't know a ton of it,
much like I don't know a tonabout the Nintendo one either,
because it's you know.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
Yeah, well, obviously
, because you were working and
then you didn't have a chance towatch.
It is that why.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
No, yes, yes.
Speaker 1 (56:21):
Yeah, ceo stuff, yeah
, ceo stuff, yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
I'm just gonna call
it.
I'm very excited and I lovewhen they announce things that
are like oh, by the way, this isout next week and, as such, one
of my favorite ladies of alltime, ada Wong.
Speaker 1 (56:37):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (56:37):
Yeah, that's true, is
gonna be hanging out with me
next week.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
Resident Evil 4,
separate Ways DLC so excellent.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
Yeah, that's true.
So I mean I saw that and Ithought of you and I was like I
have no idea who this characteris, but Mike was probably pretty
happy oh wow that makes prettygood.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
I told you Resident
Evil 4 is not that scary, it's
an action game.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
It's intense but not
scary.
Resident Evil 2 is terrifying.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
Yeah, Resident Evil 4
is you just got a lot of
airmove.
Speaker 1 (57:05):
Yep, Just imagine
you're playing Dead Rising,
mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
You can say this all you want.
I mean, I could barely make itinto the what was the oh break
or outlast.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
Outlast.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
Barely that game is
horrifying yeah.
Roger didn't even get to thehorrifying part.
He made it into the waitingroom and that was scary, I won't
even install it, see.
Speaker 1 (57:29):
See, this is why
we're friends, Baron.
This is why we're friends.
Speaker 4 (57:33):
I need to be able to
fight back.
Yeah, Like I can get through.
I can kinda get through ahorror game where I have the
ability to defend myself.
Right, you tell me the wholepoint is to run.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Yeah, no, exactly.
Give me some super powers andI'll play the game.
Speaker 4 (57:52):
Resident Evil.
Like what House Benevito?
That's why that was thescariest location in the game.
Oh, that was so cool, that wasso creative, because there was
just no, you were just there tosurvive, yep.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
Wait, is that in
Resident Evil 4?
Is that in Resident?
Speaker 4 (58:04):
Evil 4?
Eight Eight.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Oh, okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (58:10):
I'm telling you,
though.
They're like, if you can musterup the courage when you get to
the midpoint and outlast, orit's like there's this thing
that happens in the middle.
That's just so cool.
Speaker 1 (58:20):
I'll just watch, I'll
just have somebody else watch
it and then tell me about it, oryou guys play it and tell me
about it why don't you just tellme about it right now.
What did I say about therelease?
The same right now on thepodcast Spoiler alert released
in like 2013, right 2012.
Speaker 2 (58:32):
Resident.
Evil 4 released in 2005,.
So that's old enough.
Maybe I'll see if our buddyretro game for Inkenstein oh
yeah, no.
Because then you'll have nochoice, you'll be forced to play
it.
I'm gonna make sure he doesn'tshow up, I'll give our GF a call
.
Yeah, don't do that.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
Anything else, Mike.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
No, that was it Ada.
Speaker 1 (58:55):
Phil Hi.
Any thoughts?
Speaker 3 (58:57):
I have lots of
thoughts about a lot of things.
Speaker 1 (58:59):
Yeah, I know you do.
Speaker 3 (59:01):
I quickly skimmed
over the Nintendo notes.
I got stoked for Trombone Champbecause it did look pretty damn
amusing.
Speaker 1 (59:07):
Oh, and then you
could play with the Joy-Con that
looks great.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
You want to keep
doing that for about another
three minutes.
No.
Speaker 1 (59:16):
I don't, but it did
look cool though.
Speaker 3 (59:22):
That motion reminded
me of the toilet paper game in
all of this, yeah it really did.
Yeah, it's kind of a gimmicklike the toilet paper game had.
Yeah, warioware intrigued mejust because those games were
taking fun and stupid at thesame time.
It's nice to see Dave the divergetting a lot more love and on
some other systems as well, I'vegot a joke sitting in my head
about the entire Tomb Raidertrilogy coming over, but I'm
(59:44):
just not going to make fun ofNintendo tonight.
I'm going to do my best to notmake fun of Nintendo, so I'm
just going to sit on that one.
Speaker 1 (59:50):
Okay, it also showed
up in the state of play too.
Tomb Raider yeah.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Yeah, but I was just
going to say that, even if it
was still using the PS1 graphics, it'd be the second best
looking game on the Switch, andit could actually run up with
that fucking chugging Baron madethe face.
Speaker 4 (01:00:05):
Hey look, nintendo,
I'm just a guest here.
No, no, I believe me when Itell you my beef with like.
Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
You know what?
That's okay.
Phil jokes around a lot aboutthe graphics and how terrible
graphics are.
Phil, what was your favoritegame that came out last year
right around this time?
That you still play and try toget all the achievements for
that you got.
Roger and I hooked on Vampires.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
Wars.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
Yeah, vampire
survivors.
Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
Wait, I got you guys
hooked on it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
I brought this up
first you played for 10 minutes
before I played for 12 hours.
Speaker 1 (01:00:45):
Okay, true but I did
tell you guys to go play it.
That is a true statement.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
Isn't it trippy how
it just like it felt like for so
long we were pushing to get tothe biggest, most graphically
powerful game.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
Yeah, and now we're
dumbing it down and just looking
for good stuff.
Yeah, like, just give me anexperience, give me something
that makes me feel good, I agree, or something I just don't have
to think while I play is halfof the way.
I get home after 10, 12 hoursof work and I just want to shut
my brain off and move two thumbsand a couple of fingers and,
like I'm good, I don't need abig like anything going on.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
But Trombone Champ is
perfect for you then, that's
what I'm thinking.
Speaker 3 (01:01:20):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
You know what it's
funny?
For me, dumbing down is likenot so much tactical RPGs.
Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
So I'm like slowing
down and I'm playing like Slay
the Spire for the first time.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
Yeah, that's a good
game.
Speaker 4 (01:01:38):
Oh my gosh Slay.
The Spire is so damn good.
As you were talking overtactics.
Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
All I could think of
was Final Fantasy tactics and
how much time I sunk into thatgame and how I haven't been able
to touch a tactics game sincethen because it ruined me.
Have you played tactics?
Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
advance.
No, they have okay.
So it's not it's so.
Final Fantasy tactics advanceis not as gritty, not even close
to being as gritty, as FinalFantasy tactics was or is.
But my God, they add a judgesystem.
And then there's a card system, and then a mission system to
(01:02:13):
where you could infinitely playthe game, if you want to.
Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
That's the problem is
they don't have infinity time
anymore.
I'm not in my early twenties, yeah you okay, doesn't that suck
?
Speaker 4 (01:02:26):
Like no, no, no, no,
let me, let me tell you it's the
worst.
It's the worst because then Ihave the nerve to enjoy games
like Starfield and and freakingMountain Blade Bannerlord, Like
these games literally have noending.
Yes, no real.
Like, hey, the game no longercan go any further.
Yep, you can continue growing, you can continue building your
(01:02:49):
kingdom, you can continuesquashing rebellions, and I'm
talking about Mountain BladeBannerlord Please go and check
it out for those who don't know.
Um, but here it is.
I'm playing games where you canput in 60 hours and get nothing
done, yep, and I have the nerveto buy more of them.
And then you got your G cloud,so now I can like play more of
(01:03:17):
them instead of beat.
Like I was shocked, I beat amortals avium and I worked hard
to beat it, not because it was abad game, it was fun.
It felt like a solid Xbox 360like action shooter game.
Like it just felt it was purefun.
It was fun Um, the jokes werejust the right amount of cheese.
Like it was just it was good.
But Starfield, and see a starSeven nine, eight.
Speaker 1 (01:03:45):
Hey, you know what?
You don't have to worry becausein like half a year to a year's
time, there's going to be alull of games because no one's
going to be making cans.
Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
Finally that backlog.
Speaker 4 (01:03:56):
Yeah, I mean no, this
is horrible.
Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
You don't need it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
T Roger, you had to
get this.
I know Sorry, I know, I know, Iknow I did, I did I did, I did,
I did, I did, I did, I did, Idid, I did.
Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
I did, I did.
That was a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
That was a good one.
That was a good one, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Yeah, I was saying
Boo, yeah, that was a good one,
that was a good one.
So, it needs to say that's mytake away from the Nintendo.
(01:04:37):
Yeah, what did you?
Did you give?
A score, yeah, I gave it.
I don't it.
I don't know if I want.
I don't want to give it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
I gave in an N for
Nintendo for Nintendo Good show.
It was very Nintendo.
I gave it an N for Nintendo.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
There was some at
least I didn't give an L for
Luigi.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Oh yeah, Wait, that's
also never mind, I'm not even
gonna touch it, Dude a snare, hit the snare.
Speaker 1 (01:04:59):
Yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah, there it is there.
It is Sorry, our producer's noton top of things, sorry about
that Producer Paul.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
We've got Mark in
marketing.
Producer Paul.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Yeah yeah From the.
Speaker 3 (01:05:12):
PS5 event.
All I really took from it iswow, new colors for the PS5 and
the controllers.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
Okay, that was funny.
What was that?
I saw that.
I was like, really, this islike your halfway point and
you're gonna be like, look atthis, we got some colors for the
tent, for the PlayStation andcontrollers.
Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Me, while at
Microsoft you can make
customized controllers with allof your colors and anything that
you want.
You don't just have to beat thewhims and the violence of Sony,
oh, so I give them a P for.
Playstation.
Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
Yeah, I know, like
this, listeners at home can't
see it, but this is myGamerHeads controller.
It actually says GamerHeads onit.
Can't see it, but it's theGamerHeads color too GamerHeads
green.
That's an Xbox controller.
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Well, GamerHeads
green.
Speaker 1 (01:05:59):
Yeah, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
Roger, still, it just
hit Roger right there.
Yeah, what scored Did you giveit a score?
I gave it a P for PlayStation.
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
I liked that.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Oh yeah, that's nice.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
I gave it an N for
PlayStation.
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
All right, so myself.
I mean, if you're a fan ofF-Zero, f-zero 99, I did play a
little bit of that I can talkabout that a little bit here.
That was very cool.
I also thought the Tomb Raiderremastered, remake, whatever.
It was pretty cool, superexcited about that.
(01:06:39):
Did you guys watch Tomb Raider2 story?
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
No.
So the day two this is quality.
Fill stuff right here.
So the day that Tomb Raider 2came out, I had $20 to my name
and I really wanted to buy TombRaider 2.
And this is young, 19, 20 yearold Phil.
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
So young 19,.
Speaker 3 (01:06:56):
20 year old Phil
decided to take his ass to the
casino to see if he could win$60 to buy the new Tomb Raider
game.
And I grabbed my good friendAndy and we went to the casino
and Andy's not a gambler and hesat next to me as I stuck my $20
into a red, white and bluemachine to try to win enough
money to get Tomb Raider, atwhich point I hit an $80 win and
I turned it like an 80 and Isaid, fuck this, we're out of
(01:07:17):
here.
We're going to Walmart so I canbuy Tomb Raider.
Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
Wow, that's amazing.
That's a good story.
That's a good moral of thestory too.
Yeah, good morals, that's good.
Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
No win.
Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
Yeah, like I had
literally $20 to my name and I'm
like I don't get paid for threedays, but I really want Tomb
Raider, so let's go to thecasino.
And he's like this is the moveyou wanna make and I'm like it
was the right move.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
It was the right move
.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
look at that, yeah,
and I hit and he's just like
holy shit, it worked and I'mlike, yeah, dude, now we're
going to Walmart.
Wow, that's amazing 24 hourWalmart, I see you knew he's the
eating prairie that I give thelove to.
That was still open and Iwalked in.
I bought my $60, $70 copy ofTomb Raider 2, went home and
stayed up probably until sixo'clock in the morning and part
took in a bunch of illegalactivities and played Tomb
Raider.
Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
Yeah, so I'm excited
for Tomb Raider 1 to 3.
Yeah, I mean, I think, okay, Ilike Luigi's Mansion, so it was
pretty cool that the secondone's coming up to the switch as
well.
That was pretty cool, yeah, Imean, yeah, I think those were
(01:08:23):
like my big highlights for the.
I would give it a solid B.
I thought that was pretty good.
I thought it was pretty decent.
The PlayStation State of Play Isaw the Ghostbusters game in VR.
I thought that was cool, butI'm not going to be playing it
on the PSVR 2, I'll be playingit on my MediQuest.
So I was like, yeah, that'scool, I'm glad that the game's
(01:08:44):
coming.
I thought Spider-Man lookedgreat, but I'm not going to buy
a system for Spider-Man, butSpider-Man looked fantastic, I'd
give it, I mean.
But yeah, I mean, I think, mike, you hit it on the head.
Like they tempered everybody'sexpectations like don't expect
like games to be announced, likewe're not going to drop any
games, we're not going to, likeit's not going to be, like, oh
my goodness, like this is likewe didn't know, like you're
(01:09:06):
going to see everything that youknew was coming is just going
to have dates, release dates, like you said, barry.
So I mean, I guess if I were tograde it on the fact that they
gave that expectation and I feellike that's a fair thing, I
would probably give it a C plus, right, like because it's they
tempered that expectation.
Speaker 4 (01:09:22):
For honesty.
Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
Yeah for honesty.
Now Unity on the other hand, now they got a unit
representation.
Yeah, that's right, that'sright, and an F too, probably.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
Yeah, it's about to
say a screw before the U oh.
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
Oh, woo-wee, oh, all
right.
Well, let's move on to gamesthat we're currently playing.
Baron, I'll start with you.
What games are you currentlyplaying?
Speaker 4 (01:09:47):
Starfield.
Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
Yeah, you enjoying it
.
Are you enjoying it?
Speaker 4 (01:09:53):
Let me tell you, let
me just be 100% honest I have
I'm at the Bane story missionlike two and I've gotten over
two days in a game.
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
So, you're just going
out exploring or what a time
messing around.
Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
that's a I'm just
doing, well, let me tell you
quick story it.
Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
So I've been a Skyrim
player and purchaser since it
launched.
I bought it originally on ps3,but we were, if you guys
remember what happened with theDLC.
Uh-huh it didn't work for likesix months to a year, so I had
to buy it again on the 360.
Then of course I bought it onthe Xbox one and then of course
I bought it on PC and of courseI bought it on the series X you
(01:10:38):
know the new one.
They came, I would.
And of course I bought it onthe Nintendo switch, where I
Finally beat the main story.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
Wow, wow those
characters and all the other
versions are like waiting foryou to come back.
They're waiting.
Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
There's some who got
the hearth and home.
There's some yeah, Emily.
Yeah, and then I always get, always tell myself I'm gonna
play different.
I'm not gonna sneak around andsnipe people and cast spells
from far away no way.
I'm gonna make make a millionand a half Iron daggers that
level up ridiculous no way.
And I do it every time any dude?
Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
Yeah, yeah, of course
.
Speaker 4 (01:11:18):
But yeah, so that was
my quick story.
So in saying that I'll probablynever beat Starfield, um, and
that's until it comes toNintendo switch.
Speaker 1 (01:11:27):
I'm just kidding,
that was a joke.
Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
You know, hey, look,
I'm just.
But no, actually I've heardthat with with Starfield, you
People are highly recommendingyou go through the story Because
there's things that are linkedto it that you know.
Without trying to spoil, yeah,so I'm actually playing through
the story and I guess after twodays I've done enough not doing
(01:11:52):
my job with constellation.
So you know.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
You have a job to do?
Yeah, exactly, you just goingout exploring.
Come on, game told me to talkto the bartender.
Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
So I had to go talk
to the bartender and then I was.
That I had to go talk toso-and-so, because she's missing
her stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:12:13):
Thank you.
Thank you, phil.
Speaker 3 (01:12:14):
That's what happens.
Speaker 4 (01:12:15):
I was on my way to a
mission and then a security
guard was just talking and itwas a domestic violence
situation and I was like theyneed me, and so you don't think
they could have handled thatthat on their own?
Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
Yeah, you don't think
that they could have been like
hey, dude, we got this.
Do you feel like maybe you, youmaybe, maybe you stepped on,
maybe you stepped on their toesand they're like what's it?
Why are you doing here?
Why are you here?
We were taking care of this andyou stepped into our realm and
now you're taking our work awayfrom us.
Speaker 4 (01:12:41):
You ever think about
that.
R&jesus gave me a quest marker.
Follow it until it's end I getit be tuna.
Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
That's awesome.
I will say this about Starfieldyou know every other Bethesda
game like oh, all the riddledwith all the issues, like really
, I haven't heard many issueswith Starfield, right, I haven't
heard one issue.
Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
I got stuck on a
table for a minute but it didn't
crash.
But I couldn't get off thattable and I just quick loaded my
life safe, like it was my ownfault for jumping up On the
table like an idiot, justbecause I can jump and there was
a table there so I jumped on.
But I'm I've also classicallybroken every Elder Scrolls game
known to man, trying to walk upthe side of a mountain because
hey, I bet I can walk up theside of this fucking mountain.
Then I get stuck on themountain and then I got a re
(01:13:33):
like it's just, it's what I do.
I break games sometimes.
Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
No, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
Do you know that the
tears of the kingdom?
You can like, walk around andyou won't break the game.
You can actually walk whereveryou want.
Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
You know, I can't
break my switch.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Is that what's out
you're spending most of your
time on?
Speaker 4 (01:13:54):
is yeah, yeah and
then I'm gonna be playing.
You know, putting on my work at.
Yeah, I'll be playing a gamefrom wandering wizard a survivor
, mercs.
I'll be streaming that tomorrow.
Oh, our merc survivors, I'm sosorry.
Wondering.
Wizards, you guys are awesomepeople and I just butchered the
name of your game.
Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
It's Mercs Tell me
about the game.
I don't know, I don't knowabout this game.
Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
So it's basic.
Like if I had to horriblydescribe it, it is vampire
survivors, except you're acolonel and you don't do the
fighting.
You you're recruiting differentSoldiers and then they have a
lot of these and then you'removing around the battlefield
and you're trying to survive.
Wow, wow, and then it's got arogue light element where you
(01:14:39):
get to boost and yeah, yeah,it's pretty yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 1 (01:14:42):
That's cool.
I'll let you plug here.
What's here?
What's your channel?
What's your channel that youstream on?
Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
It's gonna be YouTube
comm forward, slash Lv1 gaming,
20 the number 20, and when areyou streaming that game?
Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
what time?
Speaker 4 (01:14:56):
Um, it's gonna be
some time tomorrow.
Yeah, it's gonna be on a on aon a Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
On the.
September 15th, within the timeframe of September 15 September
16th, sometime in there, somewhen, that, when, the, when, the
.
Yeah, it's sometime, sometime.
Speaker 4 (01:15:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you
know.
Speaker 1 (01:15:32):
It's actually how
unity actually has both of their
policies.
This so vague.
They can just say whatever theywant the gift that keeps on
taking.
Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
Backward Santa Claus.
Speaker 4 (01:15:58):
Oh my god, I'm an
adult, I swear.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
Oh, I'm gonna try to
catch your stream, cuz like I
Log in the moment I wake up andI'm gonna message you every hour
.
Baron, why are you?
Speaker 4 (01:16:19):
what's how you going
live?
What's where you at?
It's all pressure.
I'm all sitting here pacing.
He just won't go live.
I said go live.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
You'll go live at
like 1145 pm.
I said Exactly, I'm not.
I'll be exactly.
I'll be in bed by that.
I'll be like where were you?
I was live, you were sleeping.
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
Hey, you know I
filled for film obligations.
Oh, no, how?
Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
long, just a minute
and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:16:53):
Hey, you know, look
industry people listening.
I swear I'm a professional.
Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
You assume people
listen to this podcast.
Speaker 4 (01:17:01):
That's the problem.
No, no, we don't have thebudget for listeners.
Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
No, that's right.
This, this black s actuallydoesn't air.
Speaker 4 (01:17:08):
This is just for fun.
We just meet here and we spenda quarter every time we get a.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
We actually have to
pay unity every time we play
that damn slide whistle.
Speaker 3 (01:17:31):
Yeah, so thanks for
putting me on the spot there,
roger.
Speaker 4 (01:17:34):
Um, yeah, wondering
wizard, if you guys uh-huh, yeah
.
Speaker 1 (01:17:38):
Yeah, I will be going
live tomorrow.
I think they might listen tothis podcast.
Speaker 4 (01:17:42):
No hey look, you'd be
surprised, man.
I went on the show once andthey were like yeah.
So I read through your lastcouple reviews and I was like
what?
Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
Wow, wow.
Speaker 4 (01:17:53):
I was like what.
Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
I was like you, did
what why?
Speaker 4 (01:18:16):
It's hilarious.
You just pull out his red band.
Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
Like the reason we
had you on the show actually is
because we want to talk aboutsome of your reviews, like,
excuse me, this is not the thingI didn't sign up for.
Speaker 4 (01:18:33):
This is not it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
So why did you give
this game 7.5?
Yeah right, that's right,that's right.
Okay, I tell you a quick storyabout that.
Actually, you have to tell youreal quick story because I don't
think I shared the story withyou.
I shared with these two, butwhen I was at PAX East, there
was a standing in line to get inon to the floor and I was
standing next to this guy and hewas.
He was from Boston and he, youknow, he's got a very thick
Boston accent and I'm not gonnatry to give the accent because I
(01:18:59):
can't, but he was like.
He said he was talking about agame.
I don't remember what I washe's like, but you know,
journalist, they ruin the game.
They gave it a seven.
Every game should be a ten outof ten.
Why isn't every game a ten outof ten, like every game should
be a ten out of ten?
I was like, oh, and then I'mhiding my badge as he's talking,
right, and then his wife turnsme.
He's like wait a minute, you'rea journalist.
I'm like I am, and she says Iwas expecting the next words to
(01:19:21):
come out of her mouth who do youwrite for what?
What you know?
What organization do yourepresent.
How did you get that?
That was her, that was herwords.
How did you get that badge?
And I was like I walked up andI showed him my ID and they said
oh yeah, roger, you're fromgamer heads.
Here's your badge.
I don't know.
I actually said, cuz I reviewgames, I don't know.
Like I give games seven out often.
(01:19:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:19:44):
Yeah yeah okay, okay,
since we're talking horror
stories with reviews, I startedthis and I apologize that I
completely derailed the show.
Speaker 1 (01:19:53):
So that's all right.
That's right.
This shows every.
This is every week, so that'sfine dying light too, oh.
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:20:00):
Phil, that's your
favorite game.
Look, I caught a, so there wasin this.
I don't.
I hope I'm not breaking some, but Probably not.
Speaker 1 (01:20:13):
maybe if you find out
, it is, just tell me and I'll
edit this out, okay?
Speaker 4 (01:20:16):
look.
So there was a moment in a gamethat they warned us and it was
like hey, there's a bug.
If you get to this point, donot Reset your game, do not like
there was.
There was a point in this buildof the game and Cuz we got it.
We got it pretty early, so Iwas like okay.
Thanks, but so in the have youguys played it.
(01:20:38):
Phil has okay, do you rememberwhen the explosion goes off an
elevator?
Okay, so at that part of thegame that was the glitch part.
Speaker 3 (01:20:48):
The entire game is a
giant fucking glitch.
I hate that game.
Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
So at that part, when
it exploded, my audio went out
and I thought for the first fewseconds it was part of the game.
I was like, oh, this immersionis legit.
No cuz, it was perfect, if youknow.
You know what I'm talking about.
Phil it was a perfect.
Like A door opens, grenade goesoff.
Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
Your guy with death.
You can't hear anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:21:36):
It's Over version it
went from immersion to like.
Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
Not immersion, not
immersion.
Speaker 4 (01:21:52):
This opportunity but
wait.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
So it was a but I
couldn't reset and then this was
a major yeah in the game.
Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
This was like this
was like a like a big pivotal
moment and I Didn't, I didn'tget.
It took me a whole nother hourto finish that mission.
So I had an hour of crucialstory in silence, muted in
silence and it oh man, but solong story short when we got to
the review.
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:22:23):
I was terrified.
I was like I'm gonna be likethe only.
I think I gave it a six.
I want to say I gave it a six.
I could be lying and give it aseven, but I think I give it a
six.
I was like I'm gonna be theonly six on the internet.
I'm gonna get drunk through themud because that's the worst
thing ever.
What we're viewing like I feel.
I feel Validated when I,without knowing anybody else's
scores, and the scores go out,and then I'm sitting in the
(01:22:46):
media.
Yeah, yeah, I'm like oh then, okay, I'm not far off, I did you
know that's, that's a fairassessment.
Speaker 1 (01:22:52):
Yeah, but.
Speaker 4 (01:22:52):
I was worried, I was
gonna, cuz.
You know this was a game thatfor years we seen the ads on
Twitter.
Yeah remember they advertisedthe hell out of this game for a
very long time.
Yeah way before it even hadlike real commercials, and it
just I Was so scared and we werehaving meetings that were like
so are you ready to get drug onReddit, bro?
Like are you, are you ready?
(01:23:13):
And I was like.
I cuz I had it happen forOutriders.
No, wow, nope.
I got drug through the mud onOutriders and I ended up being
right yeah you are man.
Well, no, I enjoyed it.
But I told them.
I said, first off, they Sellthis game as if it's a games as
a service and it's not.
No, it needed to be.
Yes, this was the one time agame needed to be a gas.
(01:23:36):
Then they needed to add on topof the gas, they needed to add
seasonal content.
It needed to be on game passand or launch for 40 bucks.
I said I wrote a whole articleTalking about all it is and
people are ready oh, nobodywants a complete game anymore.
I was like no, it's not that,it's just the game style Doesn't
(01:23:59):
fit what they're like itdoesn't fit.
Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
It was a gas day one,
wasn't it?
And that's I was vindicate.
Speaker 4 (01:24:07):
I was like suck it.
I Every in the game, shouldhave launched that 40 bucks.
I'm a firm believer that, likein, ubisoft is good for this.
They'll launch a game at 49.99.
Some games need that.
Yeah, remnant to perfect, example, launch that 49.99.
(01:24:31):
What is a beautiful game?
In my opinion, it's a game ofthe year contender.
Yep Cuz.
The game is amazing and theprice point is beautiful and you
get a complete experience withConstant updates and cross plays
coming soon.
Yep, like it.
Remnant to it was a perfect, like perfect storm.
Their only sin was coming outin 2023.
(01:24:53):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
Any other year that
game?
Speaker 4 (01:24:56):
would that the game
would be a standout shining star
.
Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
I'm actually
surprised that game doesn't get
more love than it does.
Like I played off, it's justfair shake of it and like it's.
It gets no love anywhere.
Speaker 4 (01:25:05):
I'm just game.
There's many other games.
Yeah, who?
Many other games?
That's the only problem.
Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
Yep, well, you have
to worry about that in a couple
months.
Oh yeah, that's actually,that's a.
I didn't mention that news,that's right, that's right.
Which news Well, I'm bracer isthinking about selling them.
Speaker 4 (01:25:31):
They're like
dissolving a bunch of stuff and
yeah arts talks.
Speaker 3 (01:25:38):
Yeah fifth, are we in
a gaming bubble bleeding?
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
the fifth yeah, I
know, I know, I know, I know,
phil, I'll.
Anyway, are we in a bubble?
Like the gaming bubble, like itjust feels like maybe Like
maybe, yeah, maybe, I mean Imean the unity thing.
I think is actually a yeah, isit is?
(01:26:03):
Is, is it evident of like, oh,look at this, we can.
You know, it's weird to me tothink about how Much he brought
you this remakes.
Yeah, I know, I know I.
It's weird to me how much moneythis industry makes and then
and then things like unityhappened.
It's strange, mike, whateveryou been playing.
Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
I forgot.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Don't be sorry of
Baron.
We love having you on the show.
This is amazing.
Thank you so much for joiningus.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
Are you ending the
show now, roger?
Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
Yes, thank you so
much for joining us, baron.
It was great having you on theshow, mike, thank you for
joining now.
I'm just kidding, mike.
What have you been playing?
Speaker 2 (01:26:49):
Oh man, crazy with
tears of the kingdom here.
I don't play a hundred and sixtyhour games.
I play, I like six and eighthour games here.
I am going crazy with tears ofthe king.
And it got to that point.
You know where you, whereyou're playing, and you're like,
okay, this ain't so bad.
And then you hit that pointwhere you're like, all right,
(01:27:10):
I'm staying up past my bedtime.
Yeah, let me just go a littlebit further.
I'm looking up stuff online.
You know things like that.
That's where I'm at, especiallyonce I started getting into
lighting up the I don't knowthis the underground Area.
Oh yeah all the light, roots andstuff, and it's just like I'm
just discovering so much stuff.
(01:27:31):
I'm walking around and all of asudden I see this, it's not
part of the story, it's just agiant skeleton flying boss Just
floating around hanging out.
I'm like, yeah, I don't want togo over there, yeah, and so you
know, I got the whole thing, Igot, I got the master sword and
I'm still and I still only beattwo of the dungeons.
(01:27:53):
So, man, am I, am I just lovingit?
See, later fell, loving everyminute of it.
We're talking about Nintendo's.
It feels like, yeah, so yeah,I'm just like, oh man, I'm at
that point where I'm just, okay,it's grabbed me, like I'm, I'm
doing the right.
(01:28:13):
Now I'm doing the Gerudodungeon and I'm loving the voice
actress for the, the GerudoSage.
She does an amazing job in it,so, so perfect.
Um, I, so I'm playing that and,oh, more dead cells playing
some more dead cells.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
Oh yeah, so are you
playing that Castlevania version
or no?
Not yet.
No, okay, not yet.
Speaker 2 (01:28:39):
Not yet, cause I'm
playing on Xbox and I don't have
the.
Castlevania DLC for the Xbox yet, yeah, so I still need to, I
still need to get that.
But I've been playing a lot ofthat, going through that.
I'm having fun with that.
And then today was a veryspecial day.
Um, I was at work, I wasworking in the office.
Today, drive home, I I text myson.
(01:29:01):
I said I'm pulled up, I'm inthe front, I'm in, I'm in the
front of the house, let's go.
As soon as he opens the door,I've got my phone, uh, and my
Bluetooth all ready.
And then I hit the play button,my speakers are blasting, uh,
more the Mortal Kombat from thefrom the 95 movie, you know bop,
bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop.
I'm like let's go.
(01:29:23):
And the two of us went over toGameStop and he got his PS5
version, I got my Xbox version.
And I'm like, and I and he'slike, uh, the guy at the
GameStop, he's like, he's likeman, I got to tell you about the
story and I started yelling athim.
I'm like, shut up, you shut up.
Right now I have a good workingrelationship with him.
So it's okay, I can do that Imean I say that to everybody on
the street.
Speaker 1 (01:29:43):
I'm going to.
I'm going to have him on shownext week and see if that's
really true, yeah, yeah, it'sall better yeah.
Yeah, he's like dude.
I don't like this guy.
Why are you here?
Why I didn't tell me Mike wasgoing to be here?
Is this intervention?
It's an intervention.
Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
I'll have him tied up
in the basement.
All right, you're on that.
I told you I don't want to behere.
Speaker 3 (01:30:03):
Tell him that we're
friends, tell them, we're
friends.
Speaker 4 (01:30:07):
It's buffs those
dents out of the disc.
Speaker 1 (01:30:17):
So oh my God, oh man,
you're the best.
I love having to be at gosh.
I have not left this hard in along time, so Um, so, yeah, so,
so I, we got home.
Speaker 2 (01:30:35):
I'm like I'm John,
I'm like I don't want to hear
anything about the story, Idon't want to hear any spoilers.
I'm going to finish the storyand get through it.
I, I, I, I.
I pop it in the X box, Ofcourse, you know.
Oh, by the way, you need tofree up 140 gig.
Speaker 1 (01:30:49):
Oh yeah, see, this is
what I'm saying.
This is what I'm saying.
Even the physical copies.
They know that you're playingthe game, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:30:56):
But you can still
install it without it being
connected to the internet.
Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
So yeah, so I
installed it and everything and
I'm like, okay, here we go, I'mgoing to uh going to get started
on the story mode, but, um, I,I got, uh, I got a little uh
impatient, because it's like, hey, you can play the game now.
Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
I'm like oh, yeah,
can it still installing.
Speaker 2 (01:31:15):
Oh, I'm going to do
it anyway.
But I couldn't get into thestory mode because that was one
of the last things to certain.
So I'm like, all right, I'mgoing to go, I'm going to go lab
a little bit, I'm going to gointo practice mode.
I'm going to pick my boy.
Well, my boy, reptile, or uh,baraka wasn't, wasn't downloaded
yet.
But I went to my other boy, reptile, and I was playing
reptile, just just practicingcombos, doing all this stuff,
got my and uh.
And then so my son came downand I'm like, what do you do?
(01:31:36):
He's like, oh, it's justinstalling.
And I'm like so you want to doa couple, uh, I want to do a
couple, uh, a couple of matches,uh.
Hour and a half later the gamewas already fully installed.
He and.
I are just like beating the hellout of each other.
I was able to get a uh, areptile combo up to 30%, so
knockoff 30% of their health.
Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
And then.
Speaker 2 (01:31:57):
And then I'm like,
hey, should we, should I try
playing online?
So I go into an online matchand my first online match and I
suck, I'm not going to.
I'm willing to admit it, I'mnot that good at fighting games
and I was worried because theperson I went up to their name
was like revenant killer, andrevenants are like the, their
characters in Mortal Kombat.
(01:32:18):
So I'm like, okay, this is,this is a serious person.
This person likes those areMortal Kombat and my very first
match I won.
Speaker 1 (01:32:24):
So I was like nice GG
man GG.
Speaker 2 (01:32:28):
So um, but just their
spirits.
Speaker 1 (01:32:31):
Yeah.
They went and changed theirname afterwards yeah, exactly,
they're like screw this game.
Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
I hate it that guy's,
that guy's probably talking on
his podcast.
Yeah, probably yeah probablythis guy with zero wins just
killed me.
But yeah, uh like, even like, just playing it and just like
and the.
And the really cool thing wascause, you know, watching my son
go from with Mortal Kombat 11when he was like like 12, I
(01:32:57):
think he was 12 when that firstcame out Um, just like.
And then us watching on Twitchthe tournaments him getting into
it, and then him like labbingand getting good at it, and then
us playing, and then me beatinghim, you know, beating him,
beating his, my reptile, beatinghis Liu Kang.
And then, all of a sudden, meturning to him and saying you,
(01:33:18):
let me win, didn't you?
Speaker 3 (01:33:20):
And I was like well,
I was pulling.
Speaker 2 (01:33:21):
I was pulling my
punches a little bit.
I'm like I'm like I want you tofight me for real, and then he
just destroyed me.
Speaker 1 (01:33:28):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:33:28):
It's got a very
special day, yeah, yeah.
Very proud dad moment, when, yeah, yeah, when you know the
mantle has been passed right.
Fell in love with Mortal andremembers the very first day.
I saw Mortal Kombat at anarcade Yep.
It got me exactly where it was, what, when it was what I did
that day, going from that when Iwas, when I was 11 years old,
(01:33:49):
to a point where my where my sonis, is kicking my ass at the
game it was a very proud papamoment.
Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
Yeah, I'm sure, I'm
sure.
Yeah, that's awesome.
Yes, cool, anything else?
Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
Wifu unplugged.
Speaker 1 (01:34:05):
Unlimited.
Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
Wifu undressed,
whatever it's called.
Speaker 1 (01:34:10):
Uncovered.
Uncovered Get your Wifus right.
Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (01:34:13):
I got, I got to mix
up with the MTV's unplugged.
It's just a bunch of Wifus andit's like, it's like the guitar
here With acoustic guitars.
Speaker 3 (01:34:19):
Yeah, yeah, it's a
guitar here you hit your notes
in their clothes, just slowlyfall off.
Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
Right the better you
do, the more their clothes fall
off.
Oh, actually, you know what, phil Bling, I think we're, I
think we got a good idea here, bling.
Speaker 1 (01:34:30):
Yeah, don't, don't
build it in unity though you can
do that.
Yeah, yeah, it wouldn't be itwouldn't be.
Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
oh wait, hey, it
wouldn't be unity, They'd, we
would build it on the one thatwould switch the U in the N.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
Oh, there you go.
Yeah, nudity, nudity, yeah,yeah.
Yeah, that's close enough.
All right, I'll shut up.
Very cool, come on, come on,come on, come on, come on, come
on, come on, come on, come on,come on, come on.
That's what we were looking for, that.
But there it is, there it is.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
Well, that's.
That's what happens when youwatch waifu on anyway.
That's what happens when you'redone playing the game.
Roger, you've got me, it's 1030.
(01:35:17):
I'm usually asleep by now.
Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
I know, I know, I'm
so sorry, sorry, sorry.
It's not fair.
No, no, no, no, no, it's notfair.
I haven't fought.
Yeah, yeah, we're having fun,we're having fun.
Oh my gosh, that's so funny.
Speaker 4 (01:35:28):
What in the
newgroundscom?
No, no, oh my God.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Bargainer shenanigans
oh man Stick Phil.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
What have you been
playing, phil?
Speaker 3 (01:35:43):
I also have been
spending some time with
Starfield.
I want to love this game morethan I do.
I still don't, which is sadbecause I've again, like I said
last week, I believe that I put150 plus into oblivion and into
Skyrim and into Fallout 3 andinto New Vegas and into Fallout
4 even, and this one's just nottickling my fancy.
(01:36:05):
I find it, I want to love it, Iwant to, and I'm even playing
like the main quest to try toadvance that, but it's still
just boring the hell out of meto the point where I've now
dubbed it Snorfield because itjust puts me to the fuck to
sleep.
Wow, wow.
But I'm going to keep playingit, because I'm hoping that that
moment happens where it clicksin my head and all of a sudden I
keep going yeah.
But I'm like nine hours into it,as far as play wise goes, and
(01:36:28):
I'm chasing the main mission,I'm hanging out with
Constellation.
Part of my problem is thateverywhere that I land looks the
same and the travel is justlike here, there type of a thing
, and it's all via the map.
It's super annoying, like assomebody who just used to
traverse all of whatever city.
Any kind of a Fallout oroblivion or elders or any of
those were in, like I would justwalk by foot everywhere so that
(01:36:49):
we could go and explore everycave.
But here I'm just bamfing fromhere to there and it's just like
okay, cool, now I'm here and Ican walk around the planet in 20
minutes.
Like I'm bored.
You know I loved oh go ahead,Barrett Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:37:02):
No quick question.
Yeah, man, Are you a Falloutthree or a Fallout New Vegas guy
?
Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
I can go either way
with that.
Like they're both.
It's both a mood, Like if I'mwanting to hang out with
factions, New Vegas, but if I'mjust looking to explore the
wasteland, then three.
But like I love both of themequally as much and I love four
as well.
And four got shit on and I lovefour.
Speaker 4 (01:37:21):
Yeah, this reminds me
of a Fallout three, fallout
four.
Speaker 3 (01:37:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:37:27):
Like if I had to
rough compare it to other yeah,
definitely, I agree.
Speaker 3 (01:37:32):
So the entire space
thing just throws me off, like
because I like just wanderingand doing that.
And it is like the wanderingisn't so much of a facet of it
where it's.
I'm going to take my spaceshipand I'm going to hit six many
buttons and go to the next placeLike I don't know.
It's not doing much for me atthis point.
I want it to which is why Ihaven't given up on it yet and
I'm going to keep going with it,because I want it to hook me in
(01:37:53):
, like I'm begging this game, like please just take my soul.
I want to spend 150 hours withit, but it's not doing it thus
far.
Speaker 1 (01:38:03):
I had to laugh at
that hard drive Dude like that
thing videos.
Yeah, oh, that was so spot on.
So did you see this bearing atall?
Speaker 3 (01:38:10):
So was cyberpunk.
No, no with Starfield, and he'sjust like so yeah we're getting
to the point where the game isgoing to get fun.
He's sitting on the main planet, or whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:38:20):
Yeah, I'm going to
help you find, find.
Yeah, this is this.
We're going to find fun.
We're going to find fun.
Speaker 3 (01:38:24):
You go to this menu.
You go to this menu.
You go to this menu and this isthe planet you want to go to
gets out of the ship and it'sjust like oh, it's a flat planet
with a couple of rocks in it.
This isn't the right planet.
This is what we need to do is wegot to go back to the ship and
then we got to hit this menu, this menu, this menu, and then
we're going to go check out.
Oh, it's another flat planetwith nothing going on.
Yeah, and he does it like fourtimes in a row, just with the
(01:38:45):
random planets.
He's just, I guess this is thevideo where we find the fun and
like I had the same thoughtbefore I even saw the video, I'm
just like, oh, you guys fuckingknock that shit out of the park
.
But again, I'm going to keeptrying because I want to love it
.
I want to Really really bad.
So I'm I'm getting a beating it.
I know I will, just becausethat's the way that I am.
Even if it's like, even if Iget done with it, I'm like you
(01:39:05):
know what that was a solid sixand a half seven.
I'm still going to put ahundred hours into what I'm
going to.
So, there's that, like I'mplaying Starfield Today, I also
decided to check out somethingcalled Solar Ash that just came
to Game Pass.
Because it just came to GamePass and I want to check it out,
this game to me feels a lotlike Jet Set Radio to an extent.
(01:39:26):
If that makes any kind of sensewhatsoever.
You, there's some kind of athing and I honestly think it's
called a remnant, remnant orremnants that are taking over
the planet that you're trying todefeat and get your, get the,
get the home planet back.
But you've got theserollerblades that you kind of
glide around on and you can doboosts and stuff like that as
you take out the goo that'scovering up the planet.
Really pretty very cellshadedness, very cell shaded I
(01:39:49):
should say not cell shadednessbut I don't really understand
what's going on.
But that's also me being themoron that I am, but it's been.
It's.
The controls are tight.
The soundtrack is great, itlooks amazing, it plays really
really well.
The story is not hooking me, butI also don't play a lot of
games for story.
For the most part I'm playingfor, like the experience more
than anything else.
(01:40:09):
So it's one I'll probablycontinue to pick away on.
I recommend checking it out ifyou're a fan of things like that
.
It almost I almost wanted tosay is kind of Mario Sunshiney,
but it's really not, becauseyou're not like hosing these
things down, but you have tolike get to certain points where
you got to take down part ofthe whatever's covering the
thing, at which point, like that, all becomes uncovered.
You clear out a section, youmove on that X section, you do
(01:40:30):
the same to the section atrepeat ad nauseam Solar Ash is
what it's called.
Couldn't tell you who it's by,because I don't pay attention to
that either because, again,it's me, but it's free on Game
Pass if anybody has any interestin taking a look at something
like that.
Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
Cool, it looks cool.
Speaker 3 (01:40:45):
Yeah, like outside of
that, like I've just been
playing the usuals.
Speaker 1 (01:40:49):
Cool For myself.
I just reviewed a game calledMaking of Karataka, or Karateka,
I guess it depends on who like.
So so Jordan Mechner, whocreated the game, also Prince of
Persia.
He created Prince of Persia, hecalls it Karateka and it's it's
(01:41:09):
.
It's awesome in this game.
Like, I gave it an A plusbecause I love this game so much
, because, like is history inthis game.
So it talks about when he firststarted getting into the game
industry and how he was pitchinggames.
He was pitching like thisasteroid clone game and they
have playable demos of the gamesthat he actually sent off to
them and I mean they're okay, right, like I mean, back then
(01:41:32):
they would have been amazing.
So he used an Apple IIE to makeall his make all his games and
it's just amazing.
But, yeah, he came up with thisgame called Karataka, karataka,
and so Digital Eclipse did aMaking of Karataka.
It's a total history.
And then they included a remakeof Karataka in the game as well
(01:41:52):
, and Mike Mecha like reallyfocused on the fact that one of
the things that he's so you canplay the game and you have
commentary on.
If you're going to play thegame, like I would have the
commentator commentary on, hedid a remake or they did a
remake of the game and he talkedabout how, when we go back to
games that we played as kids, like we think of it a different
(01:42:13):
way and then we play it asadults and it's like doesn't
play the same because our memoryis different and now as adults,
we've played so many othergames that, like we trained our
brain differently.
Right, when we play games now, then what is back then?
So he said, I wanted to makesure that it captured the feel
of what you had when you wereyounger and played this game.
So like he took real likeeffort into thinking about like
(01:42:36):
how the game will play, like howto make sure like the controls
feel modern, but it feels likeyou're playing the old game and
it's so well done.
Oh my gosh, it's such a coolgame.
If you've never played Karataka,it was like one of the first
storytelling games and the crazything is like I didn't know
this about this game, but he didrotoscoping, like because he
wanted to do actual action.
(01:42:57):
So he filmed his dad doing allthese actions.
He filled in the sister as aprincess doing these actions.
He filled himself and he's like20.
He's like 20 years old incollege and he's filming himself
as the villain and it's just soamazing.
And then he took the film andthen he traced every single
scene with tracing paper andthen took that and made it into
(01:43:18):
sprites.
It was amazing.
It's amazing.
And to show the whole process ofhow he did that, it is, if you
are, if you're going to build agame, not in Unity, but if
you're going to build a game andyou want to get into this like
this is a really good place tostart with and look at how game
design is, because he reallythought through a lot of like
the colors, how the set would go, and when he would make
(01:43:40):
Karataka he wanted to do theparallax where you have, like,
the side scrolling right, thebackground scrolls differently
than the front four.
But Apple couldn't do that.
It just didn't have the ability.
So what he did was he justbasically made an image that
stood still and then he hadother images move in front of it
to make it look like it wasactually moving.
It was so incredibly well donefor the tools that he had at the
(01:44:02):
time, like now it's a loteasier, right, but what he was
able to do with the tools he hadat the time.
It's an unbelievable game Like, and he did this and he was like
I think he started working onit when he was like 18 years old
.
So like this crazy, and it makesme feel like I'm a fraud
because I, what did I do?
I didn't do anything.
Speaker 3 (01:44:19):
You want me to tell
you what I was doing when I was
20?
Do you remember?
Completely changed the radio?
Speaker 1 (01:44:26):
this podcast I'm
going to talk to you about my
20s, so yeah, so my review is onGamerheadspodcastcom so you can
go read that.
And then, like I mentioned, Ihave been playing some F-099.
So this is a new game that justcame out.
Nintendo Shadow dropped it.
(01:44:47):
I actually did not expect thisgame to come out, so it's like,
you know, like Tetris 99.
It's like in the same vein whereit's a battle royale type game
and every lap that you do youhave to make it as a in a
certain number, like a certainplace, like it might be like.
So it's 99 racers and after thefirst loop you have to be at
(01:45:08):
least 50, top 50 to make it tothe next loop, and then it's
like top 40 and then top 25 andso on.
The my first race that I racedwith 99 people, I came in eighth
place, seventh place.
I was very proud of myself.
And then every after race afterthat it didn't do so great, but
the first one, the first one,it gets one.
Yeah, everybody gets one, that's right, the first one.
(01:45:28):
And it's kind of cool becausewhat they do is they they'll
pick out other players and likeplayers that are around your
rank, because they give you aranking and they're like here
are your rivals.
If you're able to beat theserivals then your rank will go up
.
It's pretty cool.
So, yes, you'll see otherplayers and then you can see
where your friends are at.
So, like Carrington, I can seehis ranking and yeah, it's
pretty, it's pretty neat.
(01:45:49):
It's pretty, it's pretty neatgame.
So I've been playing that andthen, and then the last game
I'll just mention is Splatoon 3,which they also talked about at
the Nintendo Direct.
Then the side cool side order Ithink it's called right as the
new DLC is coming out lookedamazing.
My daughter is interested ineSports in her school and
(01:46:11):
they're doing Splatoon.
So, like her and I played inthe Splatfest over the weekend
and we didn't do well.
I think we won one match, butthat's okay she, she's okay she.
I told her, I said listen, because like before that we were
playing just online and we werebeating people and I was like
I'm just gonna tell you rightnow, once we get into the
Splatfest, like there are peoplethat play like the
(01:46:32):
competitively, like really, andthis is going to feel more like
the eSports when we actuallyplay against other people in the
Splatfest.
And yeah, like sure enough, like she.
She got a little frustrated.
She was like, oh, we're notwinning matches.
I'm like that's okay, I don'twait.
What you're here is to learnright not to not to win.
So but it was fun, it waspretty cool.
It was fun bombing time with mydaughter too.
(01:46:52):
So that was that was fun.
So it's really strange becausemy son does, but my other two
kids like don't really careabout video games.
That I'm like what's wrong withyou?
You're my kid, you should lovevideo games.
So yeah, so that's what I'vebeen playing.
Well, let's do this.
Let's keep our tails from theeShop game till next week.
(01:47:14):
Phil, I'll give you some timeto play more of it.
I'm super excited to do.
Yeah, I know you want to.
Speaker 3 (01:47:23):
Oh, I was kind of
stoked to talk about it.
That's the thing.
Speaker 1 (01:47:26):
Oh really, okay.
Well, we'll talk about it nextweek Before we had.
Before we head out, though nothere, let's go around to you,
not, not anymore.
Okay, I was.
Speaker 3 (01:47:38):

Speaker 2 (01:48:41):

Speaker 1 (01:48:53):

That's where.
Yeah, it's on the small print.

I say come back, and then theyjust never show up, except for

Jill keeps showing up everytime that we invite her back.

She is the best, she is thebest.

I want to win the
silver she's also the only
person that's ever had thethree-time guest club, that's
true and the eight-time and the25.
