Speaker 1 (00:00):
The following program is sponsored by Ron Meyers
Ministries.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's time now to get the hell out of your life.
A weekly broadcast with realpeople sharing real struggles
and offering real hope.
Today's show will encourage, inspire and empower you to face
life's challenges with a boldconfidence and renewed hope.
Now let's join our host, ronMeyers.
The promoter.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hello, my friends, it is so good to be with you.
Have you had some time withJesus this week?
I call it coffee with Jesus.
Were you just pour out yourheart, talk what's on your mind,
share your successes, shareyour failures.
That is so healthy to have aconversation with Jesus.

(00:48):
Let's face it there is nobodyon this planet that understands
you like Jesus.
So why not go straight to thesource, the one that gives you
life, the one that gives you joy, the one that will inspire you,
encourage you, the one that hastotally forgiven you, the one

(01:10):
that is alive inside of you, theone that is allowing you to
become the person you werecreated to be, because you are
walking in total freedom withJesus, if you are a believer in
the finished work of JesusChrist.
It's exciting.
That's what this show is aboutfor that one person that's out

(01:36):
there that is tired of religion, tired of going to church every
week and never feeling anybetter.
They just don't know what Jesushas waiting for them.
So this show, get the Hell Outof your Life.
I bring on guests that all metJesus outside of a church.

(01:57):
They met Jesus when they weresearching for answers, for
possibilities for who they wereand in a nanosecond, jesus came
in, took residence and theirlife has never been the same.
Now, today, I want to go back afew years.

(02:18):
Remember, during COVID, howisolated we were.
Well, I did an interview atthat time with Nathan Ladner and
I want to do a rewind, but thatthe end in the monologue.
I'll come back and share whatwe have learned from that time

(02:39):
of isolation and desperation.
Let's join now my conversationwith Nathan Ladner a few years
ago during the lockdown.
Today's guest is a friend ofmine I've known for a few years.
His name is Nathan Ladner.
Now, nathan was a person thatknows a lot about drugs and

(03:02):
alcohol.
He started when he was ateenager, a young teenager, and
spent about 15 years into sex, drugs and rock and roll that was
his middle name.
But one day he had to stop.
He had to stop or live as hiswife and his children, and he's
got an incredible story.
You are going to be blessed bythis man's story, and I've also

(03:26):
will be asking him some ideasand some thoughts of what he
would do in a situation likethis.
Now, if he was tempted andperhaps he is, I don't know.
I haven't asked him yet If hewas tempted with drugs and
alcohol, as he is also part ofthe lockdown, so let me
introduce my guest and welcomehim to the show.
Get the hell out of your life, nathan Ladner, are you on the

(03:48):
phone?

Speaker 4 (03:49):
I am, I am.
It's good to be here.
I just want to say get the hellout of your life.
I mean, that's exactly whathappened to my life.
I think that's the perfecttitle.
I hadn't had a chance to tellyou how much I love that name of
the show, man, but I justreally love it.
I think it's perfect for whatwe're trying to do, what you're
trying to do and what you'retrying to allow God to use you
for man.
I'm excited to be here, brother.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
I appreciate that, nathan.
Well, nathan, let's tell thelisteners a little bit about
yourself.
Where are you from, how'd yougrow up and how'd you begin your
little journey?
Escapades of drugs, alcohol andsex.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Well, it's kind of interesting, especially during
these times when we talk aboutisolation, and oftentimes a
keyword with isolation would becalled boredom.
And I grew up in a small townof Socia and I like to play
sports as a young kid and kindof experimented with some
recreational marijuana, andoftentimes I tell people it's
really how to boredom runningout of things to do and

(04:47):
obviously the people you'rearound you'll eventually try
some things that you hang around.
I believe that wholeheartedly.
If you're out there listening, you really got to be mindful of
who you hang around and whatthey're doing.
And so when I was a teenager, Istarted using a lot out of
boredom and people I hung aroundwith.
So in this time of isolation, Ithink we really got to maintain
focus, and for me it's funny.

(05:09):
You mentioned the norm.
For a long time, ron, the normwas getting high.
Wake up in the morning, gethigh that's all I thought about,
that's all that was on my mind, just thankful that Jesus one
day showed me that there's moreto life than just getting high
and wasting my life.
That's what it was.
And so I try to really stayfocused on what I'm doing day in
and day out, that I don't wasteany more years.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah, and you started in your original story.
When I first read it, if Iremember right, it was around 14
or 15 years old you were, andit started with marijuana and
then it led into some more drugsand you dabbled in a lot of
different things, didn't you?
Oh?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
yes, and something I'm really you know.
I want to let the listenersknow first I'm not bragging or
proud of it but yes, ecstasy, cocaine, meth, pain medication,
whether prescribed orunprescribed, when you've got to
have some pain medicine oryou're sick, you'll do whatever
you've got to do and oftentimesthen you can get cocaine or meth

(06:14):
, whatever to get those.
Nobody wants to hurt Ron andnobody wants to go through pain,
but oftentimes I found in lifethat God wants to use that pain
to grow you.
You know a lot of people liketo use the faith as like a
muscle, yeah, and that's true.
But it's also true that musclegrows when it caters and that

(06:36):
can cause pain and soreness.
And so I believe God uses pain, whether it's self-inflicted or
not.
He can use that to glorify himand to grow you as the man or
daughter, son or daughter thathe's designed you to be.
I think that's the biggest keyis understanding who you are and
who God made you to be.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Well, on your journey , you were married at the time.
You were married, you hadchildren and you had hit a point
.
What was it that made you stop?
What was it that you finallyhad to say enough is enough.
I can't live this any wayanymore.
I've got to discover my destiny.

(07:16):
What God's plan for my life?
What happened?

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Oh, Ryan, that's a thank you for bringing that up.
Sometimes it's been aboutcoming up on six, seven years
now I kind of don't remember theexact date, because it's just
so awesome to be to know who Iam and what I'm designed to do.
Now, you know the saying oftime flies when you're having
fun.
But yes, the point of that, that mental, that pivotal point,

(07:43):
that I believe with all myheart, Ron, that every addict
and I'll use the word addictbecause I used to be one, I'm
not one anymore as far as drugsand alcohol I believe that the
word addict can be used asself-indulging in any type of
way.
First, let me just make thatclear.
Second, the pivotal moment wasand like I said, that addiction

(08:04):
is.
Oftentimes we find ourselves inthese cycles of life, whatever
it was, and I like to say Godwas opening my eyes slowly and
making me aware of some thingsin my life and seeing that I
believe everybody's heart ofwhen they get high, nobody wants
to hurt.
Okay, Right, a lot of times wewill go, and it's crazy.
I talk to other addicts andmost of the time you would get

(08:26):
higher or more of a risk, orwell, you're going to get the
drugs.
Then, when you actually got toingest them, however, you would
do that.
And so those are signs that Iwant to go.
For me, that kind of startedsignaling something, and it was
a kind of a hamster wheel cycle,so to speak.
I would go and I was like man,I can't keep doing this.
Something in me was like Nate, logically, can you keep doing

(08:49):
this forever?
And so the answer is no.
The answer is no to anybody outthere smoking crack, doing
cocaine, smoking meth, doingmeth.
However you're doing it, theanswer is ultimately going to
lead to death.
And so, basically, the questionI want to ask you to just be
blunt, are we that selfish tothink that it's not harming
anybody?
Because that's what most of theacts will say I'm not hurting

(09:10):
anybody.
Well, you are, Because you'reloved by more people than you
realize.
I just want to speak tosomebody right now, Ron, that if
you're loved, I think one ofthe things that got really
changed in my life, man, was howmuch my wife loved me when I
didn't love myself and God wasusing his love through her.
I mean, I hated myself and Icouldn't it would make me angry,

(09:31):
Ron when she loved me, when Iwanted her to hate me.
I wanted her to be mad at mebecause I hated myself, man, and
so I guess to narrow it down tothat pivotal moment, you know,
to sum it up with me, I can'tkeep doing this, and I believe
something's in the heart ofeverybody that's going through
addiction right now If theyreally just take a second and
think to themselves, can theykeep doing this?

(09:52):
Do they want, are they tired ofthis lifestyle?
I believe the answer is no.
I just believe they don't knowhow to get out of it.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Yeah, you know, that was kind of my story years ago.
I mean, I love to.
This was years ago, you know.
I love to smoke pot and Ialways said, well, I'll stop one
day.
And I didn't really do it somuch for fun, but I did it
because I wanted to escape andnumb the pain in my life.
And you're right, one day I hadto ask myself is this going to
stop?
And finally God put me in aposition that I not only did I

(10:21):
stop, but I'm like you, I'm kindof a wild, crazy guy for Jesus
ever since listeners.
On the phone is Nathan Ladner.
Nathan Ladner loved drugs morethan his wife and his children,
but one day, after 14 years ofdrugs, god put him on a path to
help other people now and he hasan incredible job, but we're
going to find out more of whathe's doing.

(10:42):
Some advice for somebody outthere right after the break.
So don't go anywhere.
Keep it right here on.
Get the Hell Out of your Life.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life
with your host, ron Myers.
Real stories, real strugglesand real hope.

Speaker 5 (10:59):
The story you're about to see, for the most part,
is true.
It's going to happen.
Just like the Bible said, someday Jesus is coming back and
taking his followers to heaven.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
Lord, have mercy.
I hate you for life.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
You'll be glad to be there and God will be glad to
see you.
My boy, my boy, you'll have abig get together with family and
friends.
Well, I ain't this just likeold times, huh?

Speaker 3 (11:19):
They'll show you around the place.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
It's my place right over there.
It's going to be great.
But to get there, you firsthave to ask yourself an
important question Help, you'rebeing saved?
Yeah, believe it or not, thisworld is headed toward a dead
end.
Should I get out of town beforesundown?
Yeah, and Jesus Christ is youronly hope of rescue, because
you'll never be good enough tomake it to heaven on your own,
and religion just won't do thetrick.
Well, I don't want to miss outon heaven on a kind of a uh a

(11:42):
county.
You won't miss out if you letJesus impact your life.
So if you want more out of lifethan living and dying, get to
know Jesus Christ and you'll beready for your ultimate
destination in heaven.
They sure is going to be someinteresting people at that party

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Welcome back listeners.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
This is Ron Myers, the show Get the hell out of
your life.
I'm so glad you're with metoday because during these times
of isolation, things can happenout there.
We can be tempted to take alittle pill, maybe smoke a
little this, smoke a little thatand take a couple drinks and
next thing you know, your life'sout of control.
My guest today is Nathan Ladnerthat spent 14, 15 years with

(13:00):
drugs and alcohol and today isfree, becoming the person God
created him to be, and he'ssharing his story.
Well, Nathan, before the break, you shared that pivotal moment
that your wife loved you.
I think that's so critical.
Your wife loved you when youhated yourself.

(13:20):
So, somebody, when you hateyourself, okay, you have to get
up in the morning, you have tolook in the mirror, brush your
teeth and shave.
So when you looked in themirror before your
transformation, what did you see?
When you looked in the mirror?

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Oh man, that's an incredible question, ron.
I think we're trying to put onthis facade and I think you
think everything's okay.
And in the scriptures, jamestalks about a man looking in the
mirror and forget what he looks, for looks like.
Don't be that man who'sdouble-minded.
And so it's an interestingstatement that you asked me,

(13:56):
because I kind of been studyingon that and I don't think men
spend as much time in the mirroras women do, and that's not
downing women at all.
But looking back at that, Iprobably didn't spend much time
looking in the mirror, becausethat mirror would often time
make me reflect on who I was andwhat I was doing, what was
going on in my life, ron.
So I think, I think, really, Iwould probably Look in there and

(14:19):
I wouldn't do too much thinking, to be honest with you, and and
, and I think that's a tool ofthe devil, like we mentioned
that pivotal moment, um, justusing rational logic, um of
can't keep doing this, and soyou know, shame.
Shame would also keep me downand shame will keep you in a
place Observing yourself, because it's a tool of the devil

(14:42):
, because we're oftentimes workcrucified between Yesterday and
tomorrow, and so my thoughtsoftentimes was I.
You know I screwed up yesterdayand there's shame involved in
that.
Well, tomorrow I'm gonna hurtif I don't get my fix.
They're.
They're causing a lot ofanxiety and stress, and so what
would alleviate that stress, ron?
It's to use again.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Yeah, use again and keep using again and again
listeners on the phone, nathanLadner, who is sharing his story
of how he spent 14 15 years ina drug addicted world and Love
drugs more than his wife andchildren, but one day he was set
free.
Now you went to Was it the homeof grace that helped you on

(15:24):
your recovery path?

Speaker 4 (15:25):
It was the home of grace and for me Um, hey, let me
just use scripture again run, because it's just who I am and
who I want to be, but it's.
The flesh is weak, but thespirit is willing, jesus.
And so that flesh was weak, Ireally knew in my heart that I
couldn't stay at home and Reallystruggled at hurting and pain,
so I felt it was best.

(15:45):
I had a friend of mine, jason, who, who really recommended that
I go and I'll always tellpeople I kind of mess people's
world up, I think right up toyou open about where I went for
a few months.
Um, I tell people I had the mostfun of my life at rehab.
They look at me kind ofsideways and all you can't say
that I said, but I can.
I found out who I was, I foundout how much God loves me and it

(16:07):
was just an incredible time inmy life.
And who gets three months timeout of the proverbial hamster
wheel of life?
Go to work, come home, clean, eat.
Go to work, come home, clean, eat.
And I got to sit down with my,with my maker, my creator, and
and kind of find my purpose andhave hope in this life.
Hey man it was amazing Nathantime in my life right.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
You said you found out listeners on the phone,
nathan Ladner, sharing his storyof drug addiction over 15 years
in, and he went to the home ofgrace and you said, nathan, you
found out who you were, who areyou?
What did you find out?

Speaker 4 (16:44):
I Tears coming down my eyes right, um, I just I
don't think I get to say thisout loud enough.
Brother, I'm a child of God,I'm a redeeming child of God and
Jesus paid for my niceties onthe cross.
He gave me forgiveness.
I was reading Mark to the manthat was carried by some friends
through a roof, and theycarried a paralytic man and, and

(17:05):
the Pharisees and the Sadduceesare watching them in, and he
said your sins are forgiven.
And that's that shame that Iheld on to so tightly, because
in that shame I became bitterand angry at people.
And in an excuse that, theexcuse of why I can't do better,
but in that forgiveness that Ifound out that how much Jesus
loved me, that forgiveness, Iwas able to have mercy new in

(17:28):
the morning, brother, I was ableto have that freedom that that
we all think we have, but thatfreedom that I was truly
designed to walk in and love andand peace and joy, um, through
God, and it's just an incrediblewalk to know what you're
designed for.
I think most people don't evenunderstand the meaning of life.
Yeah, I've got to figure it out, ron, but if I can simplify

(17:51):
Jesus's word, it's love God andlove others.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Wow Listeners on the phone, nathan Ladner, sharing
his story of drug addiction andhis freedom.
He was set free.
Now, nathan, I can picturesomeone out there right now, and
I can picture this because itwas a picture of my House or my
room maybe 25 years ago.
Dark room, curtains are closed,it's dark.

(18:15):
There's a bottle of JackDaniels or, crown over there,
maybe a little bag of marijuana.
They divinely tuned into thisradio program today and they're
wondering why am I evenlistening to this?
Why I'm not listening to somelead Zeppelin?
But they continue to listen toit.
Now you have an opportunity totalk to that person.
Because they don't think theyhave an identity, they don't

(18:36):
like themselves, they don'tthink they're worth anything in
life at all, so they just wantto numb the pain and forget
about who they aren't instead ofwho they are.
What would you tell that person?

Speaker 4 (18:46):
That's very good, ron .
First of all, I would say openthem, open the windows, open the
blinds, go outside for a minute, look at the trees, look at the
clouds, look at the, the sky.
Who do you think made that?
You know, we had to have acreator.
And if we got a creator, thenthen there's a good chance.
We got something strivingagainst us and and a lot of

(19:06):
people say, nate, how do youknow?
God is real.
Well, to the person sitting ina room with that bottle of Jack
or that alcohol, that marijuanaor cocaine or meth on their
table, I've seen the devil andsomebody sitting in that dark
room.
They know there's a devil, because that devil is enticing
and that devil is urging them tokeep on going.
Nobody loves you, nobody likesyou.
Um, you're not worthy.

(19:26):
Well, I'm here to tell youworthy brother or sister, you're
worthy, you're absolutelyworthy.
Jesus died for you and thatmakes you worthy.
He shed his blood, he was beatfor you.
That makes you worthy, I.
And his blood wasn't wasted.
His blood was not wasted.
And so I would say callsomebody.
I would say get out of thehouse for a second, take a walk
and examine your heart, examinethis, who I am this, who I want

(19:50):
to be tomorrow, because, onceagain, I truly believe with all
my heart that God put a divinepurpose in our heart to seek Him
, and when we start seekingother things idols, selfish,
fleshly pleasures that's when weget off track, and I believe
this isolation period can be atime to get back on track, ron.
So it's an opportunity, and Ibelieve this is an opportunity

(20:12):
to bust out of the darkness andgo to the marvelous light.
Regardless of if you understandit all, let's just break free
of something.
Let's do something different.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Well put.
Well, put Nathan Ladner on thephone, listeners sharing his
incredible testimony of beingset free of drugs and alcohol.
Well, in the little bit of timethat's just left, I got two
things for you.
One, Nathan, you are a surgerytech now, I believe, at one of
the local hospitals.
Life has been good for you.

(20:40):
So tell us a little bit what'shappening in your life in the
last six, seven years sinceyou've been free from drugs and
alcohol.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
It's been incredible.
God's just opening up doorshere.
I'll just simplify We've beentalking I believe, ron, also
that we've been talking tosomebody who needs help too, and
I just want to say this thatit's better than I ever could
imagine life could be.
I'm not just talking finance,I'm talking about joy and peace.
You know, you don't have tofind it in the substance, you

(21:10):
don't even have to be in a food.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah, you found it in God, and I think it's an
important point to make there, nathan, is that when you've
experienced the worst, which youhave, you said it in your own
words, and now you've gotten tothe best.
See, your story validates God'slove, your story validates
God's mercy, your storyvalidates God's forgiveness.
So you're preaching to someonenot out of a textbook, but

(21:35):
you're preaching to someone outof real life struggle, but real
life hope.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Yes, amen.
And if somebody wants to reachout to me on Facebook, I just
want to throw that out there, right, I didn't plan to say that
, but if you want to message meabout needing help about where
to go, where's the first step?
I would love to help somebody.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
I think that is an excellent, excellent idea.
Thank you for sharing that.
How do they get in touch withyou?

Speaker 4 (22:02):
I'm not really that savvy, ron, but I would assume
just search Nathan Ladner and itwould come up from social
Mississippi.
Heck, if you're in thatdesperate of help, just message
a few of us, yeah message a fewof the Ladners.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
They all are related.
You'll find each other Well, nathan Ladner, that's right.
Amen.
Brother, one thing before I letyou go.
I want to first of all justthank you so much.
I can just hear the passion, the love in your heart for Jesus
.
The name of the show Get theHell Out of your Life.
So how do you get the hell outof your life?

Speaker 4 (22:34):
Take a step, take one step and hear the scripture
that God's put on my heart, thatI can't get out of Don't worry,
don't be anxious about tomorrow.
Don't seek things, that of foodand clothing.
The body is more than that.
Don't worry about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow.
Take a risk, rest and God'scontrol today.

(22:54):
And taking that step of faithmeans, like I said, do something
different.
It's a cycle that keepsrepeating itself.
And how do you get out of thatcycle?
You got to do somethingdifferent.
You got to take a step.
You got to make a phone call, you got to get out the house.
You got to go visit somebody, you got to put yourself out
there and it's scary.
And it's scary because ifpeople really know who you are,

(23:16):
then you feel like you won't beloved, ron.
But that's the craziest thingabout who God is.
He fully knows you and fullyloves you.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
Nathan, god bless your brother.
Thank you for sharing yourstory, because now I'm going to
take a break, and when I return, what have we learned from the
lockdown from years ago?
I've got some things I want totell somebody out there that
still feels like they're livingin a lockdown.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life
with your host, ron Myers.
Real stories, real strugglesand real hope.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
Ron will be back in a moment to wrap up today's
conversation.
And why don't we encourage youtoday with God's promise to you?
It comes from the book ofJeremiah chapter 29, verse 11.
For I know the plans I have foryou, declares the Lord.
Plans to prosper you and not toharm you.
Plans to give you hope and thefuture.

(24:14):
That's God's promise to youwhen you choose to commit your
plans and future to Him.
Now back to Ron.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
Well, friends, I pray there is never another lockdown
.
What about people right nowthat are walking this earth,
that feel isolated?
They feel alone?
They are in lockdown, personallockdown.
What do you do to get out ofthat?
Well, I promote Jesus for areason Jesus is my life, jesus

(24:54):
is my freedom.
I gave up religion years ago.
I gave up religious activities, thinking that if I did more,
god would do more in my life.
