Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Uh, the Giants picked up your fifty year option.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Did you have a re obviously it was like the
no brainer of all time? Or did you have a
rap into that? Uh? Nah, It's definitely a blessing. I'm excited,
but uh, it's working on getting better every day. Good thing.
I'll be here at least in the five years and
just keep working getting better every day.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
I'd be Obviously that means that, Uh, at that point
they can start talking about Uh, at this point in
your career, they could start talking extensions and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Do you know how that or what they loaded you
about that?
Speaker 1 (00:27):
As your age you mentioned that, you know, talks beginning
on the long term the earlier.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
We haven't really got into anything yet. You know that happens.
It happens, But right now I'm just focusing on you know,
it was the first part of you know, the the
off season. Man. You know, they I'll take care of yourself. Andrew,
where did you you wanna get better specifically? I know,
probably all over? But is there any one.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Era of your game that you saw last year feeling
that you said, I gotta address this for me shows?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, just uh, starting with my set and pass protection,
just being uh more consistent with my inside foot and
making sure I'm staying on the angle causistently. And then
I would say my hands and cash protection as well. Yeah,
especially the inside hand. I think we sure how to
keep laverage on on power moves and stuff like that.
What did you see from uh like John Michael Schmidtz
(01:13):
And does that impact you at all in different centers
of play? How do you multiple at all at tackle? Yeah, John,
he's done a good job so far. It's a lot
to learn in our offense. We have a lot of
co words, different things that he has to do. The
center makes most of the calls upfront, so we just
encourage him to be confident whatever he calls. That's that's
what that's what we hard, that's how he that's how we,
(01:35):
you know, approached the game. So he's doing a good
job for us, and I'm excited to see him playing.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
You had a very experienced player doing that last year,
and now you're gonna have a rookie.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Probably doing doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Is that is that from more burden on the guards
and and the rest of the.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Group the tay Uh, I don't think necessarily. I think
we do a good job in meetings and and on
the practice field so far, just uh r relaying of
the message. If one person doesn't know the call, we
make sure we all you know, get it done at
the end of the day, uh, regardless to who makes it.
But he's done a good job so far, so I'm
you know, looking forward to him playing.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
There are times when you're on the field where obviously
tight ends next to you.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
When you get a guy like Waller, you're I mean,
do you go back.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
And start looking at tape to see what this guy
can do and how I can work with him, or
do you just stop.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
To him or one?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Uh? I mean so far, Uh, he's almost like a
receiver for us. Uh. But like, uh, for me, it
really doesn't affect me that much. We haven't really got
to do too many like blocking drills with the tight
ends just cause of the rules right now. So once
we get to that, that's where we'll work with him
more and then like chips and things like that. But
right now they're doing a lot of seven or seven
and stuff like that. So it's just the the big
guys right now.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
And you're or early and in careers of offensive line
and you always hear about technique and how this one
wants that this coach wants to tweak it this way?
How you work aloss, have you gotten to the point
now where I understand what it made me?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Technique? Things you work on?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Right, You've pretty much have your big of tricks that
you wanna use and now it's just about refining what
you do rather than coming on with new ways to develop.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I think you're always looking for a new ways to improve. UH.
Coach Bobby does a great job. Okay, so he has
his set rules, you know, negotiable things that he has,
but he also allows us to be you know, unique
and each and every way. All of us are different players.
So if something works for one, he might let someone
do it if someone if something else works for another guy,
he'll let him do it. So that's a blessing to
(03:23):
have UH as a officer, IM.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
But you individually, you have you gotten to a point
now where you pretty much know how you wanna handle things?
Or are you still looking for new things to come
tweak what you do technically?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah? So I would say that the biggest thing is
just consistency and the things that I've already learned and
I understand, but also like I said, just looking to
learn new new techniques. It might be some things that I,
you know, see on film from someone else that I
might wanna try just to see if it works for me.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
How you do.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
And you're you were an All Pro last year?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
How do you uh build on that going forward this year?
I mean people now looking to as one of the
vast slot tackle in the league.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Do you shoulder that? I think it starts with your approach.
For me is I'm trying to get better every day,
regardless of the accolades. Obviously you want accolades and you
wanna be the best, but you don't get there by
word and about there. You get there by working east
and every day to get better. And that's what I'm
focused on. You say you wanna be the gazz the league.
Do you feel like that?
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Like you so suff We're in the back of your
mind you think of I wanna be.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
The best loft tackle. Yeah, I'm a competitor. I wanna
be the best for my team. Obviously, you know I
want the team to do well. It's not just about me,
but I do wanna be, you know, one of the
better players in the league. A couple of life have
you ever talk to other left tackles, to and s,
you know who who are considered great and pick their
brain if you've done that at all. When I was
actually in high school, Trent Williams was at the camp
(04:43):
the Nike opening, and uh, that was the first time
I met him, and obviously I'm, you know, a great player.
Even back then, he was really great and it's great
to see guys like that. But I I don't talk
to a whole bunch of guys, but I do watch
film of different guys just to see what they do.
I know, I watched Tomso a lot. I watch Ronnie
Stanley just to see, you know, what those guys are doing,
cause they they've been doing it for a while. What
do you told Have you told Trent about the high
(05:03):
school meetings? Since you you said that? Or no, I hadn't,
but we played him this year, so I'll talk about
what do you think, uh, high school Andrew Thomas would
say it? I told him that. He said again, I.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Said, what do you think high school Andrew Thomas would
have said it? We told you in six years or whatever,
you're gonna be with Trent Williams as.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
The best left backles in this league. Uh, he would
have been stoked. Sorry, it's crazy. Uh for sure, M
