Speaker 1 (00:00):
We finally made it, finally made it. How what was
your reaction when the news? I was just grateful.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I was grateful that I had this amazing opportunity and
I'm so happy and grateful I get to beat the
strong quarterback for New York Giants for this week.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
How did you endure during that stretch where you were
the guy? Like? How did you get through that stress? Serving?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Serving every single day? Uh as as best as I can. Uh,
and that's not gonna change. I'm still gonna continue to
serve my teammates and uh and do all I can
do with what I have, UH, knowing that there is more.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
We wanted a Giants fan base to see out of
your first start in their uniform.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
I just want them to be excited, come ready.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Uh expect us to give it all we got and
just like y'all, just like when the Giants fan come up, we.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Know we're gonna feel them.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We know that we're gonna receive them, receive us with
open arms, and we're gonna get you.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Give you what you desire. Calves share with me yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Yeah, James, you've been in a situation like this where
a team needs to be galvanized.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
What does that take.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
What does it take to get a team that's down
up for a game and just have the emotions and
the energy of the game different.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
So that you can in times like this is just action, right,
Who's gonna focus on being the solution. Who's gonna focus
on doing all that they can do to be the
solution for this team? And me, I'm just taking it
one day at a time, one player at a time,
and I'm encouraging everyone else just do your best, like
that's all the fans want. The fans just want us
to come out there and do our very best. And

(01:36):
when we come out and execute and do our very best,
we're a tough team to be James.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
What have you learned the most just from watching obviously
Russ and Jackson start just obviously communicating with both of
those guys.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
In their positions. What if you gain the most from
just watching their process and then you know leave.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Machine, Well, I'm We're all a part of the same process,
you know. Obviously, the insight from Russ of being a
Super Bowl winning quarterback is, you know, the develop in
Super Bowl habits, how we approach every single day and
the fun and intentional detail that that Jackson possesses because
he's so hungry and so grateful for this moment. You know,

(02:11):
he's just a young rookie. I can look in his
eyes and just tell how bad he wants it.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
And I was.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I was that young rookie, and I'm still like, in
my heart, that young rookie. And that's why I'm so
happy and grateful for this.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
This moment.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
When you when you get a chance to get opportunities
like this or any opportunity you you do your best
to capitalize on those moments and stay present and do
all you can do.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Taking over for.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
This obviously, with Mike now taking over, what about him
gives you confidence that he can lead this team.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
He's poised. He's very poised on the sideline.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And don't get me wrong, this is a very challenging
situation because I will not be here if it went
for Brian Dable, and I'm so grateful for him and
the opportunity that he for me to come to New
York uh and do what I love.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
So don't don't.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I'm happy for Calf, but I'm thankful for Brian Dabo
and what he has done h for this team. I
know how the business goes, and I've been in that
position before, but I'm extremely grateful for him. More importantly,
and I'm just I'm a sight of a calf like
just like as a quarterback, you want the opportunity to
lead the team. I know he's been waiting on this moment, moment, preparing,

(03:23):
not waiting, but preparing for this moment to be a
head football coach. And I know he's gonna do the
best that he possibly can.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
You mentioned that you got through this stretch by serving
between the rookie quarterback and the veteran quarterback. What was
the best way that you were able.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
To serve by being persistent, being the same every single day,
but by asking them questions of what they would love and.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
How am I able to serve them? Uh?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
And and and just by acting on it, you know,
not just acting just to ask the question, but but
doing more than what's required, you know. Uh, watching film
with Jackson, sending Russ specific plays, specific thoughts of that
they may help us in the process of brainstorming and collaborating,
collaborating with them both about what we're seeing and how

(04:12):
we're going to attack this defense.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Played in a while.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
What's the concern about you know, rush obvious since the
first first day out, you know, leading the group, but
rustiness and all that kind of thing, and how much
did the Cleveland experience.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Maybe, you know, how does that help you? Because you've
been treat us a little bit through some similar you
have been waiting on this moment.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Man, So the Shackras, all the russ Is off like
it's like, hey, you get to play, and when you
get to play, nothing else matters but taking them one
player at a time and doing your very best.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Because we we all afford we all.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Have different circumstances, conditions and facts, and I know that,
but man, I'm extremely grateful and I choose to focus on,
you know, on what's what's true. And that's my mentality,
that's my opportunity of being able to lead this team,
and that's my actions of going out there, being energetic, enthusiastic,

(05:04):
serving every single way that I can and playing the
best football I possibly employ. When did you push out
Brian davielhood and fired and what was your immediate reaction
to that?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Biggs?

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Uh Man, I was in we were in Bible study.
Uh when when we found out Russ had had told me?
And then next thing you know, we had the meeting,
like it was no time to really uh grasp the
whole thing. I just I immediately was just like, man,
I'm so grateful for that man. Like he like the

(05:35):
person that that Dave's is is he's a people person.
Like one of the first coaches that I had, one
first head coach that I've had to like FaceTime me,
you know, like introducing his wife to my my my wife,
like he had to do that. You know, he could
just talk to you know, see Era and in Jackson's parents.

(05:56):
But you know, he went on his way to make
sure that everyone was involved. And that's why I'm so
grateful for him. You know, the way that he led,
the way that he did things was it was the
right way. We just had unfortunate circumstances on the field,
you know, and in this.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Business that's all that matters.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Like like I tell, you know, Jackson and Russell time,
you know, you know, really like I take pride in
being a great person. But if I don't go out
there and throw touchdowns and create excitement, no one would
really care. You know, when you when you think about
the grand scheme of things, like no one really really
cares unless you are producing and unless you are showing

(06:32):
up day end of the day.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Up, what do you want fans to know about you?
I want fans to know that I'm gonna do my best,
you know.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Obviously I'm gonna have fun, but I'm going to execute,
have a surgical execution. Uh, and just and just play ball, man,
Like this is something I've been doing since I've been
four years old, and I just get to do it
in the greatest city in the world. I'm gonna be saying, what,
my son, it's the greatest city in the world.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Yeah, that's that's a Hamilton reference. If y'all don't know,
a tea year reunion, you know.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Bible studies that with Russ and other teammates, all.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Our teammates that that attend weekly Bible study. Yeah, and
that's when we that's when we got the news, you know.
And uh, I'm so happy and grateful. I was in
that position because I was in a state of gratitude
and and a deep.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Listening, you know.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
And like I said, it happened so fast when the
decision was made and we were made aware of it
that I really didn't have time to really think, you know,
I just I just thought like, Okay, there's a seed
of good in everything, and immediately just thought about how
grateful I was for Brian Dabele of believing in me
to seek seek me and give my family a chance

(07:43):
to be in New Jersey and New York and experience
this and now.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I'm the start of the NFL quarterback.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Just a spomp that you're in right now and in
your career, there was a possibility if nothing happened, maybe
you wouldn't play again.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Would Did you ever think about that at all? I
never I never thought about that.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yeah, I never thought about not playing another game, because, uh,
that's what I attract.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
And every time I'm on the sideline, do you see
me what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Line, i might not be on the field, but I'm
playing the game, you know what I'm saying. And just
that's just a love and passion that I have, uh
for this, for this game. Man, Like I'm I'm I'm
always playing the game. Now. I might be not playing
the game physically, you know, don't don't you say that.
We're not speaking that to his sistance, But I'm playing
a game. Every single game, I'm out there prepared to play.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
James You've been a great support system for Jackson. You've
talked about how being here with him for him from
the summer. Obviously it's a tough thing that he's going
through right.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Now in the protocol, out of people's control.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
How does that move forward for you?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
I mean, do you view this Sunday as a one
shot deal and saying, you know, we know Jackson is
the future, we wanted to be here.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
How do you approach that?

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, I view Wednesday as a as a as a
great day to talk to the media and address that
I'm the staring quarterback for the New York Football Giant.
I view Thursday as tomorrow, so as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Uh And when Sunday arrives, you know, I would be
very grateful in presence that I'm able to be a

(09:11):
starring quarterback for the New York Football Giants. But until
Sunday comes, I won't really have an answer for you
about how I will be feeling on Sunday besides energetic,
enthusiastic and grateful that I'm a staring football quarterback for
the New York Football Giants.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Where do you think this team is mentally and emotionally
off of this big change and coming off of the loss.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
I think we are just we're ready for a win.
And I think that, like that's the consensus even with
you guys, you know. I mean, I think it's tough
when you guys don't get a win, you know. So
I think this city, the stadium, Uh, we are willing
to do any and everything for the New York Football
Giants to be celebrating at the end of the day.

(09:54):
And we know a good football team is coming in.
But it's not about them, you know. It's about us
playing our very best, and it's not about our circumstances
conditions in facts, you know, with our coach and with
new changes. It's about us being grateful for the Maras
giving us this opportunity to put on you like this

(10:15):
is what we signed up for.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
So whether we're.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Ten and oner or two and seven or two and eight, like,
we sign to do this, so we have to be
willing to do more than what we're required to do
when they gave us this opportunity.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Packers past rush.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
I see they traded for Michael Parsons and they already
had a good defensive end and Gary, I feel like
number ninety five. Wyatt is a great defensive lineman. And
I know that Matt Lafleour is a great head coach
and got another young quarterback that can spin it a
productive offense. But their defense is a true being. But

(10:56):
don't break defense. I think this is one of the
fastest defenses that we've seen in terms of how they
run to the football.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
There their high energy and uh and they're very sound.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
And as a defense, when when you know what you're doing,
you can you know, rep the plays that that you
have seen against you the whole year and play fast
and play together.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
To get between them. And so it's a good sleep.
It's exciting, it's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
It's beautiful when you can get sleep because you feel
like that you you're where your desire, where you desire
to be, you know. And I'm just extremely grateful that
I get to be the starring quarterback for the New
York Football Giants.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
