Speaker 1 (00:00):
What does shame for you like on a on a
weekly basis, not like what responsibilities now do you have
to handle it?

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Maybe you weren't doing before? Yeah, more involved, Uh you
know what the totality of the game plan previously more
focused on the run game right, but now being able
to go and and uh, you know, figure out how
we want to be able tot tack opponents in the
past game also and making sure tying everything together and
doing everything we can for for coach caf to kind

(00:26):
of set the table. You know, he's got a little
bit more on his plate now too, but but trying
to take some of the stress off of him from
from you know, game plan, and so we can kind
of set the table and and he comes into the
meeting and and kind of knows what we want and
can trin down the menu and make sure we get
exactly you know, what he wants the way he wants it.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Game days in terms of he said, we know he's
still calling the plays, but on game day, will you
be marketed? I guess maybe like thinking ahead in terms
of plays.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Like yeah, yeah, I think when you know, when when
you're on the sideline and whatever the role is, you're
always kind of thinking what you can do next to
try and help, you know, put some points on the board.
So uh, you know, being more involved in that in
game adjustments, you know what looks good, you know what's
coming down the pipe here in terms of the next series,
things along those lines and making sure our guys are

(01:15):
ready to go execute.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Will you move upstairs or will you stay on the sideline?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
As far as I know, I'll be on sline.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
You went through this in twenty twenty with the in
season coaches. Yeah, what what lessons do you take from
that that you can use now?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
You got about ten minutes right and then and then
the rest of the league doesn't really care. So it's hard.
It's hard, you know to take the personal element out
of it. But but you find out, you know quickly,
like here we go Green Bays coming to town, and
they don't really care what we're going through. So got
to be able to to kind of deal with it

(01:49):
in your own way, you know, in your own time.
But make sure that that you're getting back to neutral
so you can go and put together a good plan
for the guys so they can go out and and
when game in a few days.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
What have you seen from the players and how they
handled it.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
You know, they're they're ready to go out and and
win a game. So they're they're preparing, you know, at
a high level, attention to detail. Everything along those lines.
Is his has stayed the same, So there's really been
no dip or anything along those lines. Those guys are
ready to go out and play well and win a
football game. From Jamis, you guys saw a little bit.

(02:25):
Yes I heard it. You know, I'm not going to
break in the song, but no, his his leadership is
off the charts. Really, that whole room, All three of
them have done a really good job of leading in
their own way, with their own style. And and you
know when when you're around him and you see him prepare,
you know, he was here last night until god knows when,

(02:48):
making sure he felt good with the game plan and
and you know, taking input and things along those lines. So, uh,
he's preparing like the pro he is, and he's getting
ready to go out lead this team.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
When Neighbors got hurt, one of the noticeable changes the
offensive line to the offense was the tight ends became
much more involved. Was that something at that time when
Neighbors that went down that you and KAF could put
your heads together today, like maybe this is a way
we can go forward. Yeah, I'm just trying to say
the partnership between you guys and.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
You know, uh, it's everybody. It's everybody up there. You know,
it's it's Shay, it's LB, it's Calm, you know, it's
it's it's everybody up there. Kind of what can we
do as an offense in our position rooms as a
unit to to put this team in the best position
possible to win a game. So if that means that

(03:37):
we're playing a personnel group a little bit more, then
you know, based upon you know, what what it looks
like and who's available, then well we'll do that. But
I think that's just an example of kind of everybody
putting their heads together and figuring out what's best.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
For us just logistically balanced tight end group.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Anything changes a little less sleep for me, that's really it.
Like there's enough time to day, just got to figure,
you know, figure out what well my cadence is going
to be with my rhythm, my routine, to make sure
that that the guys in the tight end room are
are as prepared as possible, and making sure that we
put together a good plan for for the unit.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
You mentioned that you've been focused on the run game.
What do you think of how you guys are running
the ball? What do you think needs to get better?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah? I think we you know, have Spurts where it's
really good and you know Spurts Sports it's not so good.
We need to and I would say as a unit,
you know, we need to be more consistent, right because
there's times where you know, we're we're tough to stop
and there's other times where it's like a dang right,
So just just making sure that our guys understand the

(04:41):
consistency that's needed to win. Unfortunately, we find out the
hard way that that that it takes sixty minutes of
good football and winter football game in this league. So
continuing to really really hammer home that message and make
sure everyone's on board with that and understand the amount
of detail and focus that we need for for the
entire game, not just Spurts.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Packers defense doesn't give up a lot of points.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Just what are you saying from them and just kind
of how they've been able to execute?

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, I mean they've got talent on on all three levels, right,
you look up front, Micah and Gary their problems on
the edge. You see kway Walker flying around, you know,
making a million tackles. They got two really good safeties,
two good corners, so you know they're they They've got
good talent on every level of the defense. They're very
well coached. You know, they flying around, they tackle well

(05:27):
that you know, they play fundamental football and and schematically
the hard to get a beat on. So I think
when you pair those things, you know, that's the product
you get.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
Very well coach. You're watching the film, how did how don.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
You tell that you know, detailed in terms of of
their assignments. You don't see a ton of as you know,
guys just running free. Uh, They're they're good tacklers, they
fly to the football, you know, just those those things
as you're watching it.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
When you first came here, did you know Kafka? Did
you know Davill? Like, what was the origin of you?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, I'd had a couple of conversations at a dinner
with Dave Dave's a few years back, and then caf
and I talked on the phone a couple of times
just you know, touch and base, you know, asking about
you know, certain processes and things along those lines. So
I would say we knew each other, I wouldn't say
it was a close relationship before we got here.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Can you risk not giving Parsons a ton of attention
all game because you want to call things to keep
them off balanced, but you also don't want to ignore.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Sure, Yeah, and I mean he's he's as disruptive as
a past rusher and defensive player as we've seen, so,
you know, and fortunately for us, I think we have
two pretty good tackles, right, so you know, we're gonna
have to pick our spots there and and and do
a good job and make sure he doesn't wreck the game.
But being smart in terms of making sure we're not

(06:44):
we're not compromising either aspect there.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
We'll take aple.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Okay, when you when you look for you obviously you
have about ten minutes before you can actually get ready
for another game, and that idea, can you go in
and check I mean, some of the voices may change
in the room what you're doing schematic, but is it
really what you have set up? Like what changes in
the process for for.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
You guys moving forward to Yeah, I think, uh, you know,
most of the change will probably occur, you know, behind
the scenes in terms of in terms of how we
put the plan together. You know, there'll there'll be some
some you know, they'll probably hear my voice in the
big room a little bit more than they have throughout
the first hover many weeks, But it's still the same vision.

(07:27):
We're still we're still here to make sure we're putting
our guys in the best position possible. It's not there's
going to be a dramatic shift in anything, you know,
and and and again, let our guys understand what the
plan is, be able to go out there and play
fast and really execute at a high level.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
Last one, when you guys are running the ball and
the goal line seemed like early early season, especially with Scataboo,
you guys were having success down there punching it in.
When you see now, do you need more direct running
or is it just because it's tighter quarters, more bodies
like one one mistake is more costly.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Uh yeah, I mean I would say anywhere or you
have a mistake, it's costly. I think we've been rather
efficient down there. Obviously, we'd like to see, let's be
able to punch that one in last week and we
got tackled at the half yard line, whatever, one yard
line and then you know, the backer made a good
play on the outside zone, we ran into the right
where we ended up losing two and I think that
was the second down play. So yeah, like it's it's

(08:19):
it's it's the same though, right, Like, it's the the
ability to maintain that level of focus, play style, attention
to detail no matter where we're at in the game
or where we're at on the field. Uh, that doesn't change.
So we got to be you know, at the pinnacle
of that for for as long as we can. And
and you know, again, like I said, we've we've figured
out the hard way of what happens when we don't

(08:40):
do that.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
