This is the first episode of a three part series in collaboration with SBT GRVL. Kathryn is joined by guest host and SBT founder Amy Charity, and the pair get the chance to chat with professional cyclist Ellen Noble. Ellen is part of a new initiative by the folks at SBT for 2025 called the SBT GRVL Femmes Challenge mentorship program. The program pairs professional racers with a team of amateur women who want to take on the race at SBT. The mentors will join their teams throughout the whole race, to help them with everything from pacing to nutrition and technical assistance. The goal of the program is to encourage more women to take on the race day at SBT, and show them that you don’t have to be a “bike racer” to do a bike race. Ellen is the perfect mentor for this program as she has an extensive background racing all disciplines of cycling at the highest level. However, in 2019 she was diagnosed with a medical condition that threatened her career and led her to take a few years away from racing. Ellen talks about the humbling process of facing a health condition that stripped away her identity of a “bike racer” and how she has painstakingly built herself back to a place where she feels healthy and strong enough to race her bike again.
