The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced plans this week to reduce its reliance on animal testing in federally funded research and instead prioritize human-based alternatives.
This comes on the heels of the FDA’s recent announcement to end animal testing and instead use human-based technologies.
These decisions follow a growing recognition from doctors, the scientific community and Congress that animal testing is no longer the most reliable or efficient method for predicting how drugs will work.
A new survey from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine shows 85% of Americans agree with ending animal testing. Catharine Krebs, PhD, Medical Research Program Manager explains.
