Speaker 2 (00:21):
Welcome to Good
Neighbor Podcast Live.
Are you looking for apsychotherapist?
Well, one may be close to me,you think.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
megan Romano.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Megan, how are?
Speaker 2 (00:34):
you doing today.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
I'm doing well, thank
you.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Listen, we're excited
to learn all about you and your
practice.
Tell us about it.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Oh gosh, I have been
a licensed marriage, family and
child therapist for almost 20years.
I was initially based out inBrooklyn and now I'm on Long
Island, but I do see people allover the world, believe it or
not, and I am a traumaspecialist, so I focus a lot on
healing trauma, because traumais in the body and a lot of us
(01:03):
don't know that.
So I focus a lot on healingtrauma because trauma is in the
body and a lot of us don't knowthat.
So I focus on healing it.
And I see people of alldifferent ages and backgrounds
and I have even, believe it ornot, developed a method that's
actually healing a lot of traumaand I'm getting it patented
right now, which is exciting, sothat's to add to it.
(01:26):
So it's been.
It's been a fruitful, afruitful business, but
definitely challenging at times, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
How did you?
What led you into this field ofwork?
Speaker 3 (01:39):
To be honest with you
, to be candid, I had a very
traumatic childhood and, as aresult of that, I really didn't
want anybody to feel the waythat I felt which was
misunderstood and not heard, andso it kind of led me to this
(02:00):
practice.
I initially was a teacher, butI found myself helping the kids
regulate their emotions insteadof being able to teach them
academics, and that's whatreally led me to following
through to get my therapy degree.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
What are some myths
and misconceptions of your
industry?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
There's many,
unfortunately.
I'm hoping to break the stigma, but I think that there's an old
school mentality of if you'rein therapy, then you must be
quote crazy or you're weak andcan't handle anything.
And I'm hoping to break thatmisconception because we all
(02:42):
just need to feel heard andvalidated, and most people
that's really all they need, because when you're feeling
heard and validated andunderstood, it really calms the
nervous system down to be ableto open up more.
And I treat many differentpeople.
I treat Vietnam vets especially, and hearing them process and
(03:04):
work out their stuff has been somonumental.
And so I think some of themisconceptions are you're quote
crazy or something's inherentlywrong with you if you're seeking
out help, and that's definitelynot the case.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Okay, so who would
you consider potential clients
and how are you currentlyattracting them?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
I personally and
professionally, I can see
anybody really as long asthey're presenting issues or
impacting their relationship andtheir life, and so I've seen as
young as three years old allthe way up to like 85 years old
and people from all walks oflife, different childhoods and
(03:50):
different presenting issues.
I see couples, children, families, adolescents, and
really what they're presentingissue is it has to be kind of
impacting their way of life andtheir relationships.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
And what is this word
of mouth?
I mean, how are you attracting?
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Right now, a majority
of my referrals are through
word of mouth because I'm doingthis method.
However, I do subscribe toPsychology Today.
Psychology Today is one of themain kind of hubs for finding a
therapist and attempt my ownadvertising, but a majority is
(04:31):
word of mouth at this point.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Okay, have you ever
thought about doing your own
podcast?
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yes, I actually my
husband, edits podcasts and we
did one podcast together yearsago when COVID hit and it was
really good we I really neededto submit this method to get
(05:09):
patented before I could reallytalk about it, so I'm hoping a
book will come out of it anddifferent things, so I
definitely have considered doingmy own podcast, for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
So, megan, when
you're not so busy running your
business, what do you like to dofor fun?
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Honestly, I know it
sounds crazy, but hanging out
with my kids hanging out with mykids I am a Bravo-holic so I
unfortunately watch RealHousewives.
I love to shop, I love to dosome interior design and attempt
to go to the gym when I can,but really spending time with my
family and hanging out withsome of my friends has been
(05:50):
shown to do Megan well.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Okay, we're going to
wrap, but I want you to leave
our listeners, leave a list.
This is one thing, one thingthey should remember, if nothing
else about your business.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
About my business?
Is that?
That's a good question About mybusiness is that you, if you
work with me, you are guaranteedto get better.
You just are.
When we can regulate thenervous system, everything comes
down to regulating the nervoussystem, and when we're not
regulated, everything kind ofgoes out the door.
(06:25):
And so with me, you reallylearn how to regulate yourself
and know what's going on in thatbody, so that you can be able
to articulate and be able tolive your life in a healthy way.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Okay, there's this
one question out.
It's on everyone lips.
How do we get ahold of you?
Speaker 3 (06:47):
I do have a website.
I have two different websites.
One is wwwmeganromanocom, so ME G A N R O M A N?
Ocom, and then I also have it'sdeveloping, but it's Human
Nation and it'swwwthe-human-nationcom.
