Audrey (00:01):
Hello and welcome back to Grace From my Home.
I'm Audrey McCracken and I'm soglad to be back with you again
this week.
I hope that you're doing well.
This week it has been a littlemore mild.
The weather has cooled downjust a little bit.
It's not in any way cool orcold, but it's not in the 90s.
So for South Carolina inSeptember that's pretty good.

(00:26):
This week at the coffee shop wereleased our pumpkin spice
lattes and so it was nice tohave weather that wasn't in the
90s for that.
Before I started at the coffeeshop, you know I liked pumpkin
spice.
I understood people liked itbut I didn't realize how
important it was going to be.
Liked it, but I didn't realizehow important it was going to be

(00:49):
.
For probably a month we've hadpeople calling us asking when
are you going to release pumpkinspice?
And so this year we tried toget it out early.
We tried to get it out therebefore anything else.
Even our other fall drinks Mostof them are not ready yet but
we got that pumpkin spice outthere because apparently it's a
big deal and it's nice, you know, it's nice to feel that change

(01:10):
of season.
You know we've had a greatsummer but kids are back in
school and it's just, it's goodto.
I love a change of season and, guys, you know, yes, there are
some seasons I love more thanothers, but I just love the
change of season.
I just I love that feeling.
It's like something new, youknow, something fresh and you

(01:30):
know the old season, with all ofits good, with all of its bad,
it's over and now it's time toput our eyes on the future.
So this week that's what'sgoing on in my world.
This coming Saturday I'm excitedto announce that I'm going to
have a book signing at AwakenCoffee Bar for my new book.

(01:51):
I'm going to have a booksigning and a meet and greet at
Awaken Coffee Bar in Mullen, south Carolina, from nine
o'clock until 1030 Saturdaymorning, and it's for my new
book, seek First 31 QuietMoments with Jesus, and I am
super excited about it.
I have invited everyone and I'minviting you now.

(02:11):
I would so love to meet you.
If you live in or around theMullins area.
I would so love to meet you tosign your book, to talk with you
, just to get to know you.
That's my favorite part ofdoing.
What I do is the people that Iget to know and serve.
So if you're entering aroundthe Mullins area this Saturday
from 9 am until 10 30, I'll beata waking coffee bar, talking

(02:34):
and signing books and justgetting to know people, and I'm
super excited about that andyou're invited Today.
I got probably one of the bestcompliments I've had on my book
A friend who is a regular at ourcoffee shop.
He bought three copies and hegave them to his wife, his
daughter and his granddaughterand he told me this morning that

(02:55):
his wife and his granddaughterare reading theirs together.
It's like they're time togetherin the morning and that so
blessed my heart.
I just can't tell you what thatdid to my heart, because that's
why I wrote it is to givepeople an opportunity, an excuse
, a reason, a help in drawingcloser to Jesus, and if we can

(03:18):
do that with each other, all thebetter.
This week I want to talk withyou about a psalm that I was
reading today, psalm 45.
About two weeks ago I sharedwith you a message on Christ's
return and how, in Matthew, jesus is teaching his disciples

(03:38):
how to prepare for his return.
First he's telling him thathe's going to return and then he
starts to tell them how toprepare for his return and when
he returns for us, he's callingus his bride.
And he told the story of the 10virgins and how there was a
wedding feast, there was awedding party and there were 10

(03:58):
virgins and those were the likeI guess you would call them what
we call bridesmaids today.
Right, they were getting right, they were getting ready, they
were helping the bride to getready for her big day.
And Jesus talked about how thebridegroom came to get the bride
and five of the bridesmaidswent in with them because they
were ready.
They were prepared, they hadtheir lamps full of oil and they

(04:21):
had brought extra oil.
And five did not because theywere not prepared.
And the moral of the story wasbe prepared, be ready for
Christ's return, because he'scoming back for his bride and we
, my friends, are his bride.
And Psalm 45 is a wedding songand it alludes to or foreshadows

(04:42):
Christ.
And I just want to share itwith you today because I think
it's beautiful and I think it'sa wonderful reminder of the King
that we serve the Lord, that weserve, that we are his bride
and we are preparing for a day.
We're preparing for eternitywith him, not just one day, but
there will be a day when he willreturn for his bride, and that

(05:05):
is you and me.
Psalm 45, it talks, it opens uptalking about a king and this
king is preparing for hiswedding.
And it tells us a little bitabout him In verse three it says
in verse three it says girdyour sword on your, this man,

(05:40):
this king who was preparing that.
He rules in righteousness andhe rules in meekness and truth.
So he's a good king, he's arighteous king.
And then, when you skip on downto verse six, it says your
throne, o God, is forever andever A scepter of uprightness,
is the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousnessand hated wickedness.

(06:03):
Therefore, god, your God, hasanointed you with the oil of joy
above your fellows.
So it's alluding to Christ.
Jesus Christ is the anointedone and he is the son of God and
he is the king that it'stalking about here.
And it goes on to say in verseeight all your garments are

(06:25):
fragrant with myrrh and aloesand cassia Out of ivory palaces.
Stringed instruments have madeyou glad.
King's daughters are among yournoble ladies.
At your right hand stands thequeen in gold and orpher.
And then it switches.
It switches from talking aboutthis king who is a righteous

(06:47):
ruler, a good king, a strongruler.
It moves and shifts fromtalking about this one, who was
anointed to in verse 10, itswitches to the bride and it
says listen, o daughter, giveattention and incline your ear.
Forget your people and yourfather's house.
Then the king will desire yourbeauty because he is your Lord.

(07:09):
Bow down to him.
The daughter of Tyre will comewith a gift.
The rich among the people willseek your favor.
It starts talking about thebride, and she is a king's
daughter, she's a princess, andit's telling her here forget
your people and your father'shouse.

(07:30):
At the time that this waswritten, it was customary for
kings to marry princesses fromother kingdoms, and so that
princess would be expected toleave everything she's ever
known the land where she wasraised, her father, her brothers
, her sisters, her mom, everything she's ever known and
come to a new place to becomethe queen of that kingdom.

(07:53):
And then it goes on in verse 13.
The king's daughter is allglorious within.
Her clothing is interwoven withgold.
She will be led to the king inembroidered work.
The virgins, her companions whofollow her, will be brought to
you.
They will be led forth withgladness and rejoicing they will

(08:17):
enter into the king's palace.
Doesn't that remind you of theparable of the 10 virgins, and
how they're all proceeding tothe wedding feast together.
And she's dressed beautifully.
She's prepared for this day, she's ready for this day.

(08:47):
And then in verse 16, it saysAlso customary in this time when
this psalm was written, whenthe princess from another land
would come, she would be alloweda time of mourning Because she
was leaving everything andeveryone she knew.
There would be a time periodwhere the king would not present

(09:09):
himself to her.
She would have a time toprepare herself for leaving her
old life and coming into her newlife Almost a mourning period
of my life, as I know.
It has changed and now I'mmoving on to the next phase of

(09:30):
my life.
And so in this psalm she's beenencouraged leave your father's
house and come to something new.
And so in this Psalm she's beenencouraged leave your father's
house and come to something new.
And then it even says in verse16, in place of your fathers
will be your sons.
You shall make them princes inall the earth.
So in place of her father shewill receive sons.

(09:55):
So she's going from being thechild, the daughter to being the
queen, the mom, the one who ismature, the one who has decided
that this is the life I'm goingto live, and I'm going to live
it well.
And this was a wedding song, andlet me tell you what it speaks
to me that when we grow up, whenwe become Christ's, when we

(10:22):
become the bride, we are lettinggo of things.
You know, there are things inthe past that we have to let go
of, and sometimes they're notbad things, sometimes they're
good things.
But we're going into a new life, into a new time, into a new
season, and in order to gosuccessfully into that new
season, we have to let go of thethings that were in the old

(10:45):
season.
And we have to mature and oureyes have to go from when we
were the princess, when we werethe favored one, when we were
the one who was dressedbeautifully and taken care of by
all of the maids and thebridesmaids, and we have to move

(11:05):
on from that time to now.
It is my responsibility tofather the kingdom Now.
It is my responsibility tobecome the bride, to become the
wife, to become the one who ismature and the one who is no
longer mourning the past, buthas accepted her future and is

(11:29):
moving forward, but has mournedthe past, has put it behind and
said OK, now I will do what Iwas created to do.
I will rule and reign withChrist.
I will be not just a youngmaiden, a young girl, but I will
be a woman of wisdom.
I will be a woman who has sonsand daughters, people who I'm

(11:52):
teaching the things God hastaught me.
You know, I'm becoming who Iwas created to be and that's in
partnership with Christ.
I'm married to Him.
Not too long ago, recently, Iwas speaking to a young girl who
has a past and she's strugglingwith her past because you know

(12:13):
your past.
It likes to cling to you, youknow, and the enemy likes to
make sure that it clings to usand he likes to bring it back up
.
You know, we try to walkforward and he likes to stand
behind us and say but I rememberwhen you did this and this is
who you really are because youdid this, and remember when,
when you chose this, and hewants to hold us back and tell

(12:38):
us that because of our past, then we are disqualified for the
future that we could have hador that God has for us.
And I remember I sat down withthis young girl and we were
talking and sharing some, and Ishared with her.
I said, listen, there is nobody, no man.

(12:58):
Shared with her.
I said listen, there is nobody,no man.
And one of her concerns, like itwas when I was her age, like so
many young girls, is I want theman, I want the husband, I want
the life partner that God hasfor me.
But her fear was how can I finda godly man with a past like

(13:21):
mine?
And this is what I shared withher.
Honey, you are the bride ofChrist.
Jesus.
Christ himself has chosen youto be his.
He has washed you.
He has washed you with his ownblood.
He has paid the ultimate pricefor you.
He washes you clean and whiterthan snow.
He has dressed you in beautifulgarments.

(13:43):
He is preparing you for awedding feast, for a wedding day
that is out of this world andif you are good enough for Jesus
, there is no man in this worldwho is too good for you.
And you could see it break offof her.
You could see that fear andthat dread and that worry and
that anxiety.

(14:03):
But what if?
What if my past is going tolimit me?
What if it's going to?
What if my past is going tolimit my future?
And, guys, we are the bride ofChrist and not just so we can
show off right, not just.
You know, any bride knows thatthe wedding day is the wedding
day and we can enjoy thepictures.
But there comes a time when webecome the wife and then we

(14:26):
become the mom, and then that'swhere the real work is right.
But God has prepared us to walkwith him.
He has prepared good things forus to do and we get to work
with him.
We're a worker in Christ andwe're building the kingdom with
Him.
Isn't that good?

(14:47):
We are the bride of Christ.
He is coming back for us and wewill rule and reign with Him
forever and he is the anointedone and we're his bride and he
has good things planned for us.
I love the Lord.
I love that he created me onpurpose, for a purpose.

(15:08):
Now, I'm the kind of person Ineed to see the meaning in
things.
I don't always find the meaningin things.
God doesn't always allow me tosee the meaning in things, but I
am a creature that enjoysseeing the big picture.
It's like if I can see the whybehind the suffering, then it's
so much easier for me to enjoythe things that are

(15:30):
uncomfortable or unpleasant, ifI can remember that there's
purpose behind this pain, itdoes somehow it eases the pain
or at least allows me to hold onand bear it, because I know
that I'll be so glad that I heldon and that's the hope that we
have in Christ.
And you know, there is a he'stelling a beautiful story.

(15:52):
We're part of a beautiful story.
It's an eternal love story andyou are chosen, my friend.
You are chosen to be his andyou get to choose to be chosen.
Right, we choose to be chosenand I choose Christ, I choose
Jesus, and I hope that thisencourages you this week.
I hope that this story remindsyou that God has good plans for

(16:15):
you, that he selected you, thathe washes you clean, that he
dresses you in beautifulgarments and that he's got good
things.
But you've got to get out ofthe past.
You've got to say OK, I'm readyfor the future, I'm ready to
take on the responsibilitiesthat he's put me here to
shoulder, I'm ready to do mypart.
And, guys, we do it for him.

(16:36):
We're not doing it for anybodybut him.
And when we are doing it forsomething else or for someone
else, he has a great way ofbringing us back to reality and
tapping us on the shoulder andsay wait a minute Now, who are
you serving, who are you tryingto please?
And he knows how to talk to us.
He knows how to get ourattention and I'm so glad he

(16:57):
does.
And after serving him now forclose to 30 years, I got to say
he is awesome.
He gets better and better, sweeter and sweeter as the days
go by.
I love you, I pray for you, I do, I pray for you guys who listen
and I would love to hear fromyou if you've never reached out

(17:18):
to me but would like to.
I respond to every email, everytext.
Just look in the show notes ofthis episode and you'll see many
, many ways of how to contact meand I will respond.
And, like I said, if you are inor around the Mullen, south
Carolina area, this Saturday, which is Saturday September 6th,

(17:38):
I will be at Awaken Coffee Barfrom 9 am until 10.30 am signing
books, talking to people, andI'd so love to meet you.
Before you go today, I'd liketo say a prayer for you and send
you off with blessings.
Father, I pray for theseprecious ones.
I pray, lord, for these who arelooking for you.
They're seeking you, lord.
They're trying to prepare asbest they know how for your

(18:00):
return and I pray, god, that youwould show them the way that
you would open their eyes to seethat even now, in their daily
life, lord, they are preparingfor you.
That, lord, right now, they arepreparing in the things they do
and the ways that they respondto your spirit.
Lord, that they are preparingfor your return.
That Lord, they're weavingtheir wedding dress.
Lord, that they are preparingfor your return.

(18:21):
That Lord, they're weavingtheir wedding dress, lord, and
it's going to be beautiful, andI pray, god, just for hope and
comfort and that you would speakto them whatever you want to
say in this message and in thisword today, god, we thank you
that you are faithful and youare kind.
In Jesus name, amen, god bless.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
