morning, at twelve thirty four inthe morning, after pretty much a hillacious

(03:52):
forty eight hours of being in laborbeing induced on Sunday evening, finally she
decided to make her way into theworld and we got to go see here
at the hospital on Thursday night.UM and beautiful, beautiful little girl.
UM, and so so thrilled andso happy. My brother is going to
be a fantastic UM father and UMlooking forward to seeing them. Actually,

(04:12):
was it Tuesday? Was the twentyfourth? The twenty fourth? Was I'm
trying to think here. Maybe itwas Wednesday? Maybe, yeah, maybe
I think it was Actually was Wednesdaymorning, early Wednesday morning, twelve thirty
four am. But hey, youknow when you're when you're talking about that
early in the morning, Murph,I mean Jacob was two twenty four in
the morning. Uh, Carson waseleven fifty in the morning. I think
my niece Giuliana was somewhere between twoand three o'clock in the morning. Us

(04:36):
sack babies or the you know, the grand babies in our family, they
tend to like to come earlier inthe day than coming later in today.
Yeah, well, well let mego offer my congratulations as well. Way
to go. That's great, awesome, yep, absolutely, but hey,
let's let's go ahead and let's let'sgive out some tickets here. I decided
to change it up this week. You know, I'm looking at my season

(04:56):
ticket plan, murf, because that'swhere I've been getting most of our our
tickets for the give of ways thisseason. And my next couple games on
the schedule are the Atlanta Braves andthe New York Mets. Yeah, I'm
not giving to his tickets away toanybody. I I want the Nalls matchups
for myself. Call me selfish, call me what you will. Uh.
Those tickets will stay in my possessionfor those two series for sure, especially

(05:18):
the Saturday game against the Mets.I'm not missing that one, even though
pretty much where I sit you're gonnabe dealing with a lot of schmucks coming.
You know. It's funny like wewe our old season ticket group out
in Section one forty three and leftfield. We had these Mets fans that
we're sitting right in front of usone game and uh, you know,
the big obnoxious, you know, loudmouth, you know, Met fans,

(05:41):
nothing that I can handle. Andso but you know, we're having some
fun with them. And it's likethe second or third inning and they're really
obnoxious and the one guy is builtkind of like Doug Heffernan and King of
Queen's and uh, my pal Andrewin the back of the section yells out,
hey Heffernan, sit down. Sohe got kicked out in like the
seventh or eighth. But but butwe're gonna give away two tickets for Phillies

(06:04):
Tigers on Tuesday, June six atsix forty pm. Make sure you guys
go to our social media outlets, the Green Legion Radio YouTube channel, the
green Legion Facebook page, or ourTwitter handle at green Legion. Our collective
favorite answer will win. At thebeginning of our final segment, Murph,
We're gonna do something fun today.Your favorite action movie in honor of it

(06:28):
being Memorial Day weekend. It's aholiday weekend. It's Blockbuster season now in
the in the box offices for moviesand cinema. Let's have a little bit
of fun here our favorite action moviego. I didn't know it was Blockbuster
season. So I'm really happy toknow that I have my Blockbuster cards still,
so I can I can take advantageof Blockbuster. Yeah, but I

(06:49):
think you can only use that somewhereout in the Midwest. There's only one
that left opening in the whole entireworld. Other than that, you've got
to get Netflix on one of theother streaming systems. Yeah, you know,
one of these days. All up. Um, Yeah, So I
had my list of five, butI will give you one right now.
And how about if I give youso you know, action movies. You
can kind of go all over theplace with these. Um I'm gonna give

(07:11):
you. I would say this isan action movie. Oceans eleven, great
movie, great movie, constantly youknow, moving and you know, no,
nothing's blowing up, and that kindof thing, or at least not
a whole lot of things. Butum, still, I consider that kind
of an action movie. For themind, and so I'm Ocean's eleven on
my list. I do have acouple of all my list that stuff actually

(07:32):
does blow up and that kind ofthing. But but we'll start with Oceans
eleven and I'll give you the restof latter. Now, the reason why
I had this idea for action movieand this is not the one that I'm
going to name, but you knowI'm sitting there. Yeah, sometimes you're
just things just hit you, likeyou know, I'm kind of want to
know. I obviously change things upthroughout the course of the season as we
do multiple shows. I mean twentyfive thirty shows is what we do during

(07:55):
the course of the season, soyou always want to do something different.
Um, Jurassic Park. I waswatching last night and I'll tell you what.
You know, it gets me everysingle time, and I love it
every time. I say, it'sthe t Rex scene. Uh you know,
where's the goat and you know thegoat leg winds up on the top
of the car and uh, youknow. But I'm watching Jurassic Park and
that's where I got the idea forthis. But I'll tell you what.

(08:16):
The action movie that I could watchover and over and over and over again
Terminator two. Uh, you know, just the just the overall scenes that
that happened throughout the course of thatmovie. Uh you know, Oh dude,
it's incredible. I mean the motorcycleand the and the the tractor trailer.
Um, I'm not sure I've everseen that. Now. I saw
the first one. I'm not youknow me, I'm not a big action

(08:39):
you know that kind of action movieguy. Um, I do believe I
saw the first Terminator, but uh, I'm fairly certain I didn't see this.
Yeah, the second one. Ilike the first one, but the
second one blow is the first oneaway in my opinion, just there,
like the one liners, the overalldynamic, the action scenes. Uh you
know, him sitting there with awith a grenade launcher and he's blowing everything

(09:00):
up outside and he hits the oneguy in the chest with like a with
like a gas bomb, and thenhe takes the gas mask off and he
hands him the launcher and he goesstick around. It's just, you know,
it's just a prototypical Arnold you know, nineties stuff. It's a great
and great classic stuff. So makesure you guys, hey your favorite action
movie of all time. Murph willgive us his top five at the beginning

(09:22):
of the final segment, Murph, let's get out of the box. Now,
let's talk about this Phillies team, all right, They've gained some ground
over the course of the last week. It didn't start out pretty. It
didn't didn't sure, it didn't lookpretty after Thursday night, were blowing an
opportunity there in Atlanta. But Iwould be remissed to say that the Phillies
are four and three over the lastweek. Since our last show. They

(09:43):
now sit six games behind the Bravesin our game and a half behind the
Mets and the Marlins, who weretied for second place. But let's not
just start there. Let's start withthe most recent The start yesterday by Zach
Wheeler was the pre eminent dominant startby Philly starting pitchers so far this season.
Eight innings, pitched, three hits, one walk, twelve strikeouts,

(10:07):
and exactly what this Philly staff neededheading into pretty much. It may be
a bullpen game. I think DylanCovey might give you four or five,
possibly six tonight, but you'd betit would be great for sure. I
mean, he did throw over ninetypitches in his last effort when he came
in relief of Matt Strom the otherday against the Diamondbacks, but it would
be fantastic if we could get alittle bit more out of him. But

(10:28):
Zach Wheeler and his effort yesterday toreally save the bullpen for today heading into
an off day for tomorrow. Youcan't say enough about what Zach Wheeler did
for the Phillies with taking that gameand putting him in a position to take
three or four in Atlanta. Yeah, you know, for so many reasons,
it was such a huge start, but I think first and foremost just

(10:50):
being able to see the Zach Wheelerthat we've become accustomed to here at Philadelphia.
It was awesome. You know.We joked on the show last night
that you know, he gets tosleep in his own bed when we come
to Atlanti's from right around the cornerfrom Tourists Park, And so when when
we arrive at Atlanta, he getspicked up and heads home to be with

(11:11):
his family, which is awesome. And I guess he's his mom picking him
up. Yeah. I don't knowwho picked him up, but could have
could have been mom, could havebeen his wife. Yeah, But regardless,
obviously he likes pitching here. Helikes pitching against the Braves and in
front of family and friends. Butearly on in yesterday's game, I think
it was it could have been thefirst inn, he might have been the

(11:33):
second um he Kevin Stalker said somethingI thought was really interesting on the radio
in that he said, as hewas watching Zach he had talked to him
earlier in the day and he said, what went wrong in his last start
was when he was trying to getthat out pitch and trying trying to strike
someone out fastball top of the zone. He was still hitting the strike zone,

(11:56):
you know, at the top ofthe box if you will, and
guys were you know, major leaguehitters are going to hit that pitch a
lot of times. What he wasable to do yesterday was get that fastball
and get it up a little bitout of the zone, and guys were
swinging through it, swinging and missing. And I think that was a big
difference. His fastball command yesterday, especially up in the zone, was so

(12:18):
impressive to see, and you know, he just went about his business.
We've seen him do it before, but it has been a little bit right,
and gosh, it was certainly goodto see and to your point sack,
you know, being able to dothat before a game like today where
you probably are going to have torely on your bullpen a little bit more.
It was just it was just hugeand hopefully they can build on that.

(12:41):
You know, worst case scenario, they're gonna split here in Atlanta,
but there's no reason to believe theycan't win tonight's game. They just need
to get, you know, asolid outing from Kobe, and they need
to get the bats going and Strider'slook, Strider's really good, but he
hasn't been the incredibly dominant picture thatwe saw early last year, right.

(13:03):
I mean, he's gonna be good, and he's gonna strike out double digits
more than likely, and that's justthe way he is. But if you
can get his pitch count up alittle bit, I think there's a chance
they can put some runs on theboard. And the Braves bullpen has been
dreadful, so if you can gethim out of the game, that would
be ideal. Braves have lost iwant to say, nine of their last
thirteen games. They're not exactly hittingon all cylinders right now. So seeing

(13:26):
this team at a good time, yeah, I have not been impressed these
last few nights with the Braves middlerelief and even in towards the back end
of their bullpen, you know, for a team. And listen, say
what you will about the Braves.I know a lot of people have been
frustrated with the Phillies in the earlygoing. And listen. I know I've
been on my social media platforms, especially on Facebook. I tend to like
be live on the light side ofthings and have a little bit of fun

(13:50):
with how I act and overreact ifyou want to think that I'm overreacting towards
how the Phillies are playing. Butsometimes I try to do that reverse psychology
thing, right, I try toget the Philly to turn it around,
even though I'm acting that way andI'm talking that way. But I'll tell
you what this Braves team like ifyou look at them, Yes, they
they can hit. They can hit, but you know, like, but

(14:11):
Matt Olsen is batting around two thirty, you know, so he has not
been dominant yet. He's hitting homeruns, but he has not been dominant.
And where they need him at inthe two hole in that lineup.
Marcelo Zuna has been hot and cold, you know, more so cold before
the Phillies have arrived over the lastfew days, and if you look towards
the back of that that lineup.I know we talked about this last year

(14:33):
on our show, Murph was Iwas really surprised to see what they did
in the middle of the season bygiving players like Michael Harris and Spencer Strider
those huge contract extensions in the earlyportion of their careers with not seeing longevity.
I mean, it's okay if youwant to do that, but I
just don't understand, like I preferif I'm a general manager, get him

(14:54):
on the cheap for the first fewyears. At five hundred thousand or now
seven hundred fifty thousand, I thinkis the mim I'll take that, but
you know, like to kind ofkeep them on the cheap, let him
prove it for two or three years, and then give him those deals.
I'll tell you what Michael Harris isn'tisn't performing that well, but Von Grissom
isn't playing shortstop. They have oursea plan over there. The back end
of that lineup isn't even performing forthe Braves. And this stat ray here

(15:16):
is I know. I think Isaid this probably during the playoffs last year
but this is courtesy of Corey's sidementof NBC Sports Philadelphia, and I'm updating
this to reflect his tweet from yesterday. Before yesterday's game. The Phillies are
now thirty nine and thirty eight againstthe Braves over their last seventy seven matchups
dating back to the Final Series oftwenty eighteen and including last year's NLDS matchup.

(15:37):
The Phillies played the Braves better thananybody else in Major League Baseball over
the last five years. And it'snot even close. That's you know,
it's funny, and I saw thatfrom Corey as well, But I do
I find that hard to believe.I mean, I know it's true,
but I find it hard to believebecause it doesn't feel that way, you
know, for a guy that's seeingevery one of those games. It certainly

(15:58):
doesn't that way to me. Ifeel as though the Braves have had our
number over the last five, six, seven years. But the numbers are
what they are, and like Isaid, you know, we're catching these
guys at a good time. Imentioned so they had coming into the last
night's game, they had lost nineto their last fifteen, so out ten
of their last sixteen games. They'velost their six and ten in their last

(16:18):
sixteen and a big part of thatcircling back is that bullpen. A five
point two one RARA ranks twenty fifthin all of baseball right now. So
Spencer Strider, as good as heis, I have to believe, and
we'll talk to Rob Thompson about thisbefore the game, I gotta believe the
game plan tonight is to see asmany pitches as you can early in this

(16:41):
game. You know, even ifit results in and out at the end
of the bat, if you cansee five or six or seven pitches,
you know, through the first coupleinnings each batter, and get that pitch
count up there and get into thatbullpen. I mean that. I think
that has to be the thought processwith the films. Yeah, battle amount,
foul pitches off, kind of dowhat other teams were doing with Zach

(17:03):
Wheeler earlier on in this season.Just foul off a bunch of pitches,
get his pitch count up, tryand get him out of there through five
six innings. That's the game planthe night for Spencer Strider, for sure.
But hey, we would be remissedalso to say to overlook a piece
of Major League Baseball history that hasoccurred here over the last couple days in
Atlanta. Funny, funny it's happenedin Atlanta because one hundred and eighty six

(17:26):
of those four hundred and one savesnow had happened in an Atlanta Braves uniform.
But Craig Kimberl became the eighth pitcherever to record their four hundredth career
save. Again. He tacked onnumber four oh one last night for good
measure. Do we believe that heis going to be the last one ever
to accomplish this murph? Because Edwindaz sits at two oh five at the
age of twenty nine. Obviously thisyear being injured and missing probably about another

(17:51):
forty to fifty save opportunities probably doesn'thelp him out in the long run.
But if you look at this list, I mean, like overall all time
saves leaders, the guys that areeven like that, there aren't a lot
they're even close. I think orAldis Chapman is the next, Yeah,
but I just don't think. Ithink he might be running out of time
and running out of gas. Butyou look at everybody else, I mean,

(18:12):
like the eight guys over the courseof Major League Baseball history. And
you know that I've kind of heardthis the last couple of days. Is
this something that we may never seeagain as another guy reached four hundred saves
in a in a Major League Baseballuniform as a closer. Yeah, I
don't think so. I mean, you know, who knows what happens twenty
five years from now, but butyou know, certainly not any time in

(18:34):
the next decade or decade and ahalf. I wouldn't think to your point,
you know, or all this Chapmanis the closest I want to say
he has like three zero seven orthree nineteen. He's in the early threes.
And in the last three seventeen seventeenand the last two seasons he's only
had about six or seven saves combined. So you know, it's it's hard

(18:56):
to see a path for that. He's thirty nine. It's hard to see
a path for him. Um youknow, yeah, maybe you know some
of the youngsters that are close, they're in the two hundreds. But man,
it's it's an amazing accomplishment. It'sonly happened any times in Major League
Baseball history. So you just youhave to just kind of tip your cap.
And we had Craig on after yougot number four hundred, and uh,

(19:19):
Kevin Stocker asked him a great questionabout you know, could he could
he just thank the folks that helpedhim get there, and he got very
emotional, uh in thanking obviously hisfamily and the guys that he's suited up
with and and you know, he'sa thoughtful guy, he's a he's a
guy that is humble, you know, despite all of his accomplishments, he's

(19:41):
a humble guy. And uh,it was just it was a really cool
moment. We kind of all putit in perspective after the game, uh,
you know, Kevin and Scott, myself, Tea Mack driving home Ben
Davis and and saying, you knowwhat, it probably won't ever happen again,
and we are there to see it. And and that's the kind of

(20:02):
thing that when you're going through thegrind of the one sixty two and you
know things aren't going well, andthat's those are the kinds of moments that
make us so appreciative of having theseat that we do, uh and getting
a chance to watch great players dogreat things, uh and and kind of

(20:22):
solidify themselves in the in the Annalsof Baseball, you know, twenty years
from now, Um, I'll beable to say, yeah, I was.
I was at Kimberdal's four hundredth saved. And it's just it's neat.
It's it's a cool thing to beable to be a part of small part
of Yeah. I was listening toyou guys on Friday night. I absolutely
loved the you know, Craig talkingabout you know, the influences and it's

(20:45):
you know, like I I lostmy my last two grandparents back you know,
at the end of twenty sixteen,in the beginning of twenty seventeen.
Uh so I know what he's talkingabout when he says, like his grandparents
and you know, like three ofthem are gone, And um, I
absolutely loved him, Like this Stockdid such a great job with that.
But you know you alluded to thiswith the drive home from the ballpark,

(21:07):
U, and I texted you thison Friday night. So is Team AC
driving you guys all to the ballparkin a minivan? Because that's the visual
that I had of him driving everybodyto the ballpark. Uh. You know,
we heard the story about how likeyou got left off the elevator by
Ben Davis. What a selfish actthat is. If I was there,
Murph, I would have made surethat you got on the elevator. But
uh, you know, Ben Davisis your everyday team and and you only

(21:30):
have to deal with me on Sundays. You know, it's funny, Um,
it could have happened on a betterday because we were right. We
were doing the Friday night round table. So we got a lot of mileage
out of that story. And youknow we tend maybe to exaggerate just a
hair here and there to uh,to bring this story out makes a great
radio Yes, to answer your question, Um, no, it's not a

(21:53):
minivan. We are way cooler thanthat. We have a GMC something um
suv that we're that we're rolling in. Uh. Yeah, there's a couple
of cities where it just is easierfor us to get a car. We
don't. We don't get a carin every city, but here in Atlanta.
You know, the drive and theway the way it all works,
it's helpful to have a car.So Ta Max always our driver. This

(22:17):
is always one that gets a car. He's dead. Yeah, band likes
to say he gets us there swiftly. And safely. I always say,
well, yeah, swiftly for sure. Every once in a while I have
to use my own break in thebackseat. But but so far, so
good. Knock on wood, Tom'sgotten us there. So hey, make
sure you guys don't hang out alonein the band cave for baseball this season,

(22:37):
try hanging out a Cheerleaders with sexyentertainers, four dollars, domestic beers,
Jamison specials, and awesome game dayexperiences all season long. That's right,
stop in before, during, orafter the game, not only to
see your favorite entertainers, but alsoyour chance to have the best game day
experience possible. Cheerleaders is open dailyfrom noon until two am. Go and
check them out today, were orany other day. Just make sure you

(23:00):
guys go check them out for sure. Coming up in our second segment,
we're gonna have an injury update. We have a few Phillies that are going
to start rehab assignments this week,as well as an update on Jose Alvarado
and his status. And we're bringingback an old friend of the program from
the last few years as we tapinto guests that are going to attend Merse
Memorial Day barbecue right here on oneor two point five Fox Sports The Gambler.

(23:22):
This is bud Light Baseball Brunch, presented to you by cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club.
We'll be right back after this. All right, welcome back. Second
segment here, bud Light Baseball Brunch. We're also presented to you by our

(23:45):

six zero nine two six three seven, eight two nine for all your reservation,

(24:30):
dining or entertainment questions. The LudlumHotel, your new oasis in Sea
Isle City. All right, Murph, are you do you haven't muted?
Hold on, you were muted there, so you can great job slash slashes
on a holiday weekend right now?Yeah, Hey, come on, Kyle,

(24:51):
I'll get you. Know, youknow, I had things to say
here. What I was good tosay is a buddy of mine just bought
a house around the corner from theLudlum n and I went down to visit
him and see his new new house. And I told him, I said,
look, next time I come down, there's a great little uh poolbar
right there at the Lovelam Hotel. We're gonna we're gonna hit that up.
SOY got themselves a new customer. He'll be a good customer. So absolutely

(25:15):
sure. All right, Marv.So let's go ahead, let's let's let's
round out our Phillies talk here realfast. Jose Alvarado was supposed to throw
a bullpen session before yesterday's game, but instead just threw on the side.
Phillies manager Rob Thompson said that itwasn't a setback. Are we still trending
in the right direction from your beliefhere? Yeah, I mean yes,

(25:37):
I believe they're still trending in theright direction. Um, you know,
it was a little bit of okay. You know, he didn't throw that
bullpen, but Rob was pretty clearyesterday when when he talked about it,
he said, you know, I'mnot worried about it. He said,
he came in a little bit stiff. He had hit ninety seven in the
bullpen previously in his first bullpen andknow what, he you know, maybe

(26:00):
just went out a little a littlestrong in that first bullpen session. The
good news was that he did goout and play catch yesterday, So you
know, they wouldn't have had himplay catch if there was any concern that
he had taken a step back.So I think the fact that he was
out there on the field and justlightly tossing, trying to loosen things up
was a good sign. So we'llsee again. We'll probably get an update

(26:23):
on that today when we get overto the Bullpark ballpark. But they're not
gonna rush Jose Alvarado and knock onwood. The bullpen has been really good
even without him in it, soget him healthy and have him come back
for the you know, July,August, September kind of thing doing doing
his thing, and you know that'sthat's like a tradeline trade deadline pickup that

(26:45):
would be outstanding. So it'll besome time before we see Jose again.
But he just needs to keep moving, as you said, in the right
direction. Derek Hall and Kristin Pashais supposed to start minor league rehab assignments
this week. I think, youknow, christ and pashe probably closer to
coming back to the team sooner thanDerek Call because the way Cody Clements has
been playing. Rob Thompson did saythe other day that Derek Call is going

(27:08):
to have to earn his way backonto the roster. I don't think it
was a negative context, but CodyClements appears every single time he starts.
It feels like he's right in themiddle of something. He scored the game
winning run yesterday, and prior toyesterday's game, when he has started in
eleven or twenty eight games at firstbase, he was hitting three six team
of four homers, two doubles andten RBI. But between the two of

(27:30):
them, I mean, how where'sDerek Call going to be starting now,
and where's Christian Pasha can be startingout this week with their minor league rehab
assigments. Yeah, they're both gonnabe down in Clearwater to begin their rehab
assignments. And I believe it's Hallon Tuesday, he'll get started. Potre
on Wednesday, we'll get started. And yeah, I agree with your assessment.
I think that pot as long ashe proves that he's healthy and swinging
a good bat, has a clearerpath back to the big leagues than Derek

(27:56):
does at this point. And itis because Cody Clements has come in and
done a really good job. Andthat's what you want, right, I
mean, and you know, DerekCall, I'm sure heard Rob Thompson's thoughts,
and Derek Hall probably said to himself, that's exactly what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna hit my way right back, and that's what you want as
well. Right. The competition isnever a bad thing, But yeah,

(28:17):
tip your cap to Cody Clements becausehe's gotten this opportunity and he's really kind
of taken advantage of it. Theguy can flat out hit. I mean,
he was a really good hitter incollege. Hit for power in college,
hit for averaging college. And Ithink he's been pretty impressive over there
at first base as well for themost part. And so it's been good
to see and the more guys thatare fighting to be on this roster and

(28:40):
deserving a chance to be on thisroster, the better. And just real
quick, before we dive into theMemorial Day barbecue at Merse House, Trey
Turner a couple of big hits thisweek. We had the two run shot
with two outs to tie the gameon Wednesday to avoid to sweep against the
Diamondbacks, was set to stage foralbum's walk off in the tenth inning.
And then we had yesterday, whichturned out to be the game winning hit

(29:03):
and game winning RBI with his doubleand having a two hit game, Uh,
signs that he's beginning to turn arounda little bit here over the last
few days. And uh, justreal quick, I did love the segment
with t Mac and Ben Davis afterthe game. Uh, he loves those
boys in the daycare right. Yeah, well not you listen to him,
So if you if you were listeningto the radio after the game, we

(29:26):
got Trey right after the TV guysdid, and he was doing the interview
on radio and here comes Brandon Marshagain, and oh you would I thought
they were gonna I thought they weregonna swing, you know, I mean,
it's all good fun. Do weneed to dump button hate these guys,
you know? And he's biting hislip, knowing that he's on the

(29:47):
live radio and not able to saywhat he wants to say. But it
was it was yeah, funny ontelevision, funny on funny on the radio
as well. But you know whatI would say, Sack. I thought
the play um the groundball that hehit the third yesterday was easily the hardest
hit ball that he hit ended upin a five three put out because of

(30:07):
a great play at third. ButI think, yeah, we're we're seeing
signs. I think he's struck outtwo times in his last you know,
fifteen at bats. He's always struckout once since he told everybody that his
mom booed him in that one particularstrikeout. So yeah, I think we're
starting to see him turn the corner. You know, anyone that pays attention

(30:30):
to this game shouldn't be surprised thathe's starting to come out of it.
And when he does, you know, look, out because he's gonna have
a three week period where he's goingto be, you know, unstoppable to
get those numbers back to where we'reused to. And he's the kind of
guy that can carry a team fora little bit, So that'll be fun
to watch, no doubt. Hecan't wait for that, all right.
I also can't wait to do this. Every year. We've done this every

(30:52):
year on the show. We've donethis segment for those of you that are
new to the show or for oldfriends of the program. Every year.
Murph is so generous to have someof the most polarizing players and people in
Major League Baseball over to his housefor a Memorial Day barbecue. And this
year he can have them there becausehe's off tomorrow, so we're now we're

(31:14):
still inviting them over your house. So Murph normally gets to dictate who comes
in based off of what they haveand the baggage that they bring with them.
So listen, it's so hard becausethe last couple of years I've I've
really don't like I think the firstyear was polarizing Phillies. Last year was
polarizing major League Baseball players. SoI did like a kind of mixed bag
this year. So we'll see.I got a couple of layouts for you

(31:37):
at the very beginning. So let'sstart off with a couple of phillies that
you'll be so generous to let themin. Obviously, you can't have a
party at the house without Pat Earl, and Pat Earl's got to bring the
ladies with him. Yeah, yeah, pack and absolutely come. Well what's
a party without Pat Pearl? Yeah? You know what, I hopefully comes
early and stays late. You know, he's a guy that is a lot

(31:59):
of fun to be around. Didn'tUh so, yeah, I wouldn't.
I don't think there's any doubt thatPats on the invite list, especially because
he's bringing the girls with him.And I know, I know, I
know you're taking man, But youknow, I Candy's not bad either to
have at a party. I mean, you don't you don't want to have
an absolute sausage fest at Meurs MemorialDay barbecue? Okay? Well, well
said, all right, Larry Boais gonna show up and he's gonna bring

(32:23):
the fireworks. Now, I knowit's not Fourth of July barbecue, but
you and I don't understand people settingoff fireworks on Friday night Memorial Day weekend
in uh in the Philadelphia area. But you know you can't have Larry Bowa
with there without having some fireworks.Again, Larry Boa is probably in my
top five all time favorite people, not just players, but am I a

(32:45):
head of hammer behind him? Youknow what, he's ahead of you because
he was part of my childhood. And uh, Larry Boa are yes,
and his and his beautiful wife Patty, they are absolutely invited and uh,
Larry can. Larry will hold courtand talk baseball with anybody who's at the

(33:05):
party, and it'll be the bestfifteen minutes that you spend there. So
yes, Larry Bowa, for sure, these two have been pretty easy.
I told you, layups, layoups. Now we're getting into we're getting into
the crux here. Okay a syringestrong no, yeah, no, we
had him. We had him atthe uh we had him at your fundraiser.
I think we had enough, uhsyringe filled jello shots courtesy and Barry

(33:27):
Bonds. Now, so, BarryBonds is one of the people who I
don't like, people who who treatother people like they're less than than they
are. Um, and Barry Bondsat least my personal experience, that's exactly
the way he treated me early inmy broadcasting career. Um at a day

(33:49):
a day at the VET, whenI approached him to ask him a question,
Um, Barry Bonds can go poundstand? Not invited to the party?
Hot dogs being brought to the barbecueby Ronald Lacuna Junior and Fernando Tatis
Junior. Interesting, Okay, somy answer to that is, yeah,
those guys can come. I hadJeff Francore, who does television for the

(34:13):
first Frenchie. Yeah, Frenchie's oneof the best people ever, and I
had him on the show yesterday. We were talking about Ronald mcunja Junior,
and I asked him, I said, look, I'm watching from a farm.
He's obviously having a terrific season,an MVP caliber season, I said,
but it seems to me like maybehe's matured a little bit too,

(34:34):
like he's grown up a little bit, a lot less antics, a lot
less of the stuff that we've seenin the first couple of years. And
he said, Murph, you areabsolutely correct, he said, he said,
I don't know this to be true, but I believe playing at the
World Baseball Classic for Team Venezuela andbeing around other veteran guys from his own
home country, he saw maybe alittle bit of what he was doing,

(34:59):
and I did, I'm gonna changemy act a little bit, and I'm
gonna mature a little bit. Heonly twenty five years old, I think,
right, But so so he's kindof been a different player. He's
an awesome player. I mean,if you love baseball, you can't argue
Ronald coun Junior. You're fun towatch. Actually, yes, he actually
backed up Michael Harris Junior this pastweek on Cassiano's triple. Now, if

(35:21):
he would have did that, youknow, JT might not have had the
inside park Ombron back in the playoff. And again, so that's what we're
talking about, right, I mean, guys mature over the course of their
careers if they want to be greatand they want to be better, and
I think Kakuni does want to beall those things. So Fernando Tattoos Junior,
I don't know him. I've I'venever really got a chance to talk

(35:42):
to him. Obviously, in thesame Vein not thrilled with his act.
He certainly has put his team ina bad spot over the last two years.
Um, but I'm gonna let himcome. I'm gonna let him come.
Maybe you can sit with Larry Ballfor a little bit and and learn
a little bit about how to howto conduct themselves as big leaguers because bo

(36:05):
con shall. Okay, all right, we got a few minutes left in
this segment, so let's let's getthrough the rest of this list here.
Okay, Marcel Ozuna brought the beer, but it never got there because he
decided to pimp getting it there. To be fair, he actually forgot the
call an uber, not exactly thefirst time he's forgotten to do that.
All right, I'm not going goingtoo far down that route. But no,
I think Marcel can he can sail, he can stay home. I

(36:28):
agree with you. Ryan Braun saidhe ordered pizzas, which showed up three
hours after he said he made thecall. Because he forgot the call in
the first place. He still blamedthe delivery driver, though, well,
of course he did. Um.Yeah, you know it's we're getting kind
of crowded at the Old Homestead,so I don't need Ryan Brown at the
party either. Yeah, no,thanks. Bob Melvin was getting by to

(36:49):
see that he was coming by tobe the DJ. He was playing all
kinds of great music, but didn'tput on the obvious songs. When the
crowd was craving the hits, hesat idly while the party went south sounds
from here. I don't really havea strong opinion on Bob Belbot either way.
Look if he if he shows up, that's fine, he can.
He can come in and hang outfor a little bit. I guess okay,

(37:13):
Astro's manager, Dusty Baker is stoppingover and bringing the r dervs.
Do you trust the toothpicks that he'susing to give them out with? Dusty
Baker is one of the great manin baseball, um, and yes,
I trust the toothpicks. I don'tthink he's gonna serve me an order of
on a dirty toothpick. I loveDusty Baker, love him, and I

(37:34):
respect the hell out of him.Absolutely. Dusty at the party, Lenny
Deisher is bringing chips and dip dipscould have double meaning when it comes to
the dude. Yeah, oh,I would imagine we all get a pitch.
Yeah, you know, I promisedthe local authorities that we would keep

(37:55):
things on the up and up,So maybe I don't send that in to
lend me this year, I gottwo more. I got two more for
you. Max Scherzer decided to comeover and brought hamburgers and buns. He
only lasted a couple innings into thepickup whiffleball game as he got ejected for
using illegal sick the sticky substances afterstriking out your cousin. Yeah, yeah,

(38:17):
my cousin's not very good. Youknow, I know I can't have
Maxtus at my marbecue. I respectthe heck out of what Macturers has done
in his career. He is oneof the great players of our generation.
But yeah, there's a lot ofstuff that that surrounds him in the sides.
He's Max Scherzer and at this pointhe's the enemy, So no,
he can't come and Last, butcertainly not least, Oakland A's owner John

(38:38):
Fisher showed up and surprisingly didn't bringanything at all. He spent the whole
time trying to sabotage your party sohe can move it elsewhere. Yeah,
that sounds about right. Um.And the home that they're going to move
to, it looks pretty nice.My my party might want to go there,
but yeah, we don't need hwe don't need him at the old
party either. Headed out the Oaklandon our next road trip. I think

(39:01):
indeed, Yeah, get a chanceto see their current digs. You're gonna
try, You're gonna try and catchthe possum. No, I'm gonna try
to stay away from the possum asmuch as possible, to be honest.

(40:51):

yeah, but I think he's outat this point. He had to cancel
one of his concerts. But Ithink he's doing okay now. But Jimmy

(41:36):
Murph, let's go ahead. Let'sgive away these two tickets for Phillies
Tigers on Tuesday, June sixth,at six forty pm. Your favorite action
movie. Give me your top fiveand I'll give you the list of what
we have for contestants. All right, which one did I give you already?
Oceans eleven? Oceans eleven was onmy list, and I think a

(41:57):
lot of people would agree with thenext two, and I wouldn't be prize
that they're one of the ones thatpop up from our listeners, but die
Hard has to be on the list. What a great movie, it's one
of those, might be, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think I
would imagine it is Raiders Are theLost Dark. For me, that was
one of the first movies that youknow, as a youngster, as I

(42:19):
remember watching and thinking, hey,you know that this is pretty gory and
all that, but it was whatit was awesome. So, right,
is of the Lost Dark? Um, saving Private Ryan? I mean it,
it's such a powerful film. Ithink it's a little different than the
rest of them. Um, butuh, you know, on this Memorial
Day weekend, we should certainly rememberthose folks and all of those folks that

(42:42):
have given the ultimate sacrifice, andthat movie really portrayed just the horrors of
war. But again, I thinkit's important to kind of see that from
time to time, put put everythingin perspective. And then finally, um,
it's just a movie I just loveand it would fall into this category.
So the Italian Job, great movie, and uh, you know again
kind of has an Oceans eleven kindof feel to it, but a little

(43:06):
bit more action in that one.A lot of car chases and that kind
of thing. So a Talian job, but the Italian job. Okay,
all right, So let's go tothe panel here or contestants for this week,
old boy, I'm not familiar withthat either, all right, die
Hard hacks all Ridge, Yeah,John Wick four. I haven't seen any

(43:29):
of the Wicks. I've heard.I've heard it's it's fantastic, and I
love Karen Reeves. But yeah,aliens M And I know you're not You're
not a you know, a guyhere for um, you know, comics
stuff. But Dark Night. Yeah, nope, Batman. So I know

(43:50):
who you're going with here. Iknow you're gonna go. All right,
so you're going die Hard. Iwill go Dark Night because I am a
Batman aficionado. So that means Slash, we go to you for the tiebreaker.
I gotta clarify here. I amnot a comic guy either, but

(44:10):
Dark Knight was just an incredible movie, so I gotta roll with Dark Knight.
Even though I'm not a superhero MarvelDC guy, Dark Knight was an
exception for me. So you're sayingDark Knight is a better movie than Diehart.
Yes, I am wow. HeathLedger was just that's one of the
best acting performances I've seen. AllRight, Hey, get me dark all

(44:34):
right, Dark Knight, it isdark Night. It is Congratulations John ap
for the crucker who kind of lookslike John Kruk. I'll get a hold
of you and I'll get the ticketsover to you for June sixth. All
right, murv, let's get toour picks for today's action. You're gonna
have a little bit of time inyour hands to be able to follow the
the out oftown scoreboard, and youdeserve it. After last week's performance.

(44:57):
I know I've been I've been onyou a little bit here in ear Going,
but I only do it because it'sout of love and I want to
motivate you to be better. Andyou have. I mean last week with
a three and o performance, you'renow nine and six on the season.
You've upped yourself to twelve points.I, on the other hand, went
to them one, but I hitmy underdog. It was all is my
favorite. I did not get theover under so I had a three point
week. I am now eleven andfour in the Yearly Going with fifteen points.

(45:21):
Murph, give me your first pickfor today's action. All right,
I'm only two games back. Ilike it, all right, first one
for me will be the favorites.I'm not a big favorite. Tampa Bay
Ray's best record in baseball taking onthe Dodgers, one of the other best
teams in baseball. You down inFlorida, Razor minus one twenty Razor twenty
five and six at home, andthey've split the first two games of this

(45:44):
series with the Dodgers. You know, it's getaway day for LA. I
took the pitching matchup kind of favorsTampa as well. I'm taking Tampa minus
one twenty as my favorite. It'svery rare that me and you go ahead
to head on these picks, becausewe only really just go back and forth,
like we make our picks for peopleI don't know. We make our
picks and then just so we sometimeswe have enough time to where we can
actually compare them ahead of the show. Sometimes you wind up, you know,

(46:07):
we wound up having the same pickfor something, and we might we
might don't want that, Yeah,we don't want that. Yeah. We
want to have the ability to wherewe can either make or lose ground every
single week. But the funny thingis I'm going from my underdog this week
and I'll stick on the same game. I'm taking the Dodgers of plus one
ten at Tampa Gavin Stone versus JoshFleming. I'm gonna take the Dodgers to
win the series. It is veryrare that you get the Dodgers of plus

(46:29):
money. This is kind of likelast week when I took the Orioles at
the Blue Jays. Uh, youknow, it just felt like it was
sometimes you gotta take advantage of theseteams when they are a plus money because
you never get them that way.I'm gonna take the Dodgers this week to
take that serious. So you gotthe raise, I got the Dodges in
that matchup. Give me your nextone, all right, We're going with
my over under. Cubs and radsare Wriggley, Graham, ash Crop,

(46:51):
Drewe Smiley. Smile has been prettygood this year, but this is one
of those ones. The over underis seven and a half on a really
nice day in Chicago against two Iwould call average pitchers. So that and
I asked you before the show,if you are a guy that lets the
line, talk to you and thentell you something. This is begging you,

(47:14):
begging you to take the over, right, So a lot of savvy
gamblers would take the under on this. I am not a savvy gambler.
I'm not a gambler at all.So I'm going to take the over because
it just seems so easy. SoI'm going over seven and a half cups
and rits. You're not a gamblerat all because you found out that you
sucked at it. You're exactly right. I had better things to do with

(47:35):
my money because I'm terrible of that. All right, I'm going to take
my favorite this week is going tobe the Baltimore Orioles to avoid the sweep
at home versus the Texas Rangers.Texas is playing great baseball right now.
They've won four in a row.The Orils have lost two in a row.
I think the Orioles are too goodof a team. And if the
Rangers are really that good of ateam, and they are, they are

(47:55):
that good of a team. Butyes, exactly. But to me,
the Orioles are at minus one fiftyfive and I know they've lost the first
two games of this series. It'skind of like we were talking about with
that line talking to you, thisline looks to be a little bit too
big. I think on the underdogside of the Rangers, it might be
too juicy and people are gonna takethe Rangers underdog money. I'm taking the

(48:16):
Orils to avoid the sweet today atKennon Yards and give me your last pick
there, Murph, all right,I got Blue Jays and twins are out.
In Minnesota, Jose Breus and Baileyover series is at one game apiece
home doog in a rubber match atplus twenty. I needed an underdog,
so I'll give it to the hometeam, and I think Minnesota wins the

(48:37):
series, wins this game at homeat plus one twe all right? And
then the over under Reds Cubs. What was the number on that seven and
a half? Seven and a half, So you're going over seven and a
half over seven say that way.I don't have to go back and listen
to myself to get your picks towhere I'm updating the standings. I just
I've been writing them down this seasonso it makes me feel better about myself.

(48:58):
I'm also going over seven and ahalf, but I'm going over seven
and a half for Padre's Yankees andoutlet Listen. The pitching matchup is fantastic
you Darvish, Garrett Cole, greatmatchup. The reason why I'm doing this
is because this series has played inthe under all weekend long, with two
teams that notoriously hit the ball.Six runs total on Friday night, five
runs total on Saturday night. Somethinghas to give. There has to be

(49:22):
some sort of runs that are scoredin this series between two offenses that like
to hit the ball, with thePadres and the Yankees. I am taking
over seven and a half. Canyou believe it? Thousand of what a

(49:49):
six to five? And the wildthings RB I ahad can you believe it?
Can you believe it? Two thingswe found interesting from this past week
in Major League baseball, Murph giveme your first, all right, I've
got two that both tie into thePhillies. Since his debut in twenty eighteen,
Ronald Kuney Junior we talked about,is just one of three players in

(50:12):
Major League baseball with over one hundredhome runs and over one hundred stolen bases.
The only other two in Major Leaguebaseball Trade Turner and Jose Ramirez.
A Kuna accomplished defeat in one hundredand thirty five fewer games than the other
two. Pretty impressive. Yeah,he's pretty good when he has his head
on straight. My first one. This week, the Rays became the first
team to hit a hundred home runsthis season in Major League Baseball. They

(50:36):
hit their one hundred home run lastseason on August twelfth. Wow. Wow
about all right, that's a goodone. All right. This one's courtesy
to Paul Casella from the from MLBdot com, and it's about Bryson Stott.
Bryson Stott just the second player inPhillies history. Second player in Phillies
history with two hits, two walks, and three stolen bases or more in

(50:59):
one game. The other was JimmyRowling Jay roll I eleven, two thousand
and nine. So only Jimmy Rollinsand Bryson Stott have ever done it.
And he's the first player in majorleague history. All Right, he's the
most recent player in major league historyto do it. Jose Ramirez did it
back in twenty twenty one. Awesome. So the Cincinnati Reds okay, the

(51:20):
highest paid players on their team forthe twenty twenty three Major League Baseball season.
So you can obviously name number oneon the team because he's just been
there for so long, right,Joey Vato Okay, making twenty five million
dollars this year, a guy thatisn't on the team, Actually is he
on the team. He was onthe team. Okay. So Mike Mustakis
twenty two million dollars. Okay, they're paying him this year. That's number
two, Number three, Will Myers, they're paying him six million dollars.

(51:44):
The fourth highest played, the firsthighest, the fourth highest paid player on
their team for this season hasn't playedfor them since two thousand and eight,
and it would be none other thanKen Griffey Jr. Making a whopping three
point six million dollars a season. And remember, if I know, we
always we normally stick to two.But this, I know you didn't let
him in the Memorial Day barbecue.Okay, but it's incredible. There the

(52:08):
career comparison through one thousand, onehundred and sixty one career games between Mookie
Bets and Barry Bonds. Okay, batting average Bets two ninety one, Bonds
two eighty three, two hundred andtwenty four harm runs for Bets two hundred
and nineteen for bonds, RBI sixseventy nine for bets, six to sixty
seven for bonds, five twenty sluggingpercessions, slugging percentage for bets five twenty

(52:30):
five for bonds eight eighty eight opsto nine to sixteen for bonds. Wow,
I would have never even thought thattheir stats were that comparison between between
that many career games. It's crazy. That's very interesting. Send me that.
I'd like that, Yeah, I'dlook but yeah, pretty cool.

(52:51):
But then obviously we know what happenedwith Barry and you know, got a
little help and just went nuts interms of the power after that. I
don't think we'll see that with Mookie, thank god. But yeah, he's
training towards the Hall of Fame already. It's it's he's a great play,
no doubt about it, all right, mur the rest of this week for
the Phillies, we have a shotto take three or four in Atlanta,
and we have a shot to doit on Sunday at baseball this evening against

(53:12):
Spencer Strider. We had the dayoff tomorrow, another holiday in which I'm
not gonna be able to watch Philliesbaseball. Then we have three in Queens
against the Mets, and then wehad to DC to play. I'm gonna
say surprising watching the Nationals team whohas played. Yeah, they played some
good baseball over the last few weeksand the Phillies handled them pretty easily last
year. Um, you know therest of this road trip, Um,

(53:35):
you know, what do you seecoming out of it? As you want
to your point, the Nationals ofthe fourth best record, I think you
know all of baseball over the lasttwo and a half three weeks, they've
been playing really well. That said, I would anticipate the Phillies would be
able to you know, get twoor three down there in DC. For
sure. The key will be,you know, take two or three from

(53:58):
the Mets and see if you cansteal one more from Atlanta. That I
would make for an outstanding first trekthrough the NLS. I'm confident that they
take four out of six in NewYork and DC, and I'm hopeful they
can get a win to night.Absolutely, Murph save travels from Atlanta to
New York and then on to DC. Enjoy your day off on Memorial Day

(54:21):

running the board here in the FoxSports to Gambler Studios. I'm Chris Sacker
