(00:29):
Ball. Good morning, Philadelphia,Welcome in the fun light Baseball Brunch brought
to you by Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club hereon a beautiful Sunday in the Delaware Valley,
powered by Green Legion Radio on oneor two point five Fox Sports Agamba

(00:50):
in Philadelphia, w DASAM around therest of the Delaware Valley. Were Simply
download the iHeart Radio app and youcan listen to us anywhere Crystal Clear worldwide.
Surrey, we are here right outsideof CIS's Bank Park, and explain
me live like we are every Sundayor before a home game on us on
a Sunday as we lead you intoPhillies Twins this afternoon. I'm Chris Sack

(01:11):
of Queen Leading Radio, and Iam sitting alongside the walking Wounded Phillies broadcaster
Greg Murphy, Murph, how areyou this morning, my friends? I
am upright and doing just behind.I can't. That's not always the case,
but for right now I'm doing. It wasn't the other night in the
booth in there, No, no, I took a tumble, took a
took a spill in the booth. The guys found that video yet if they

(01:34):
have, it'll be up on theinternet in a matter of minutes. Yeah,
you know, I lucked out theway it all played out because there
wasn't a whole lot of witnesses.Had I not put the story out there
myself, no one would even knowexcept for Tubes Mike tu Barrosa. But
but yeah, you know, ithappens to us when we get elderly,
like myself. So uh yeah, you know, I'm just gonna keep But

(02:00):
hey, the Phillies are playing well, Yes, we had we've had it
go a week. Yeah, crazycrazy, Like I'm sitting there and I
know we're gonna die further into it, but nay, like Wednesday night,
I'm like we can pretty much justtalk about Wednesday Night. I mean,
like, really, we have nothingelse to talk about on this show.
But you know, the Phillies offenseis starting to become resurgent here. We're
starting to get the ball rolling, just in the nick of time because that

(02:23):
wild card race. The Phillies arestarting to separate themselves. Yeah, which
is great to see. You know. Someone said to me the other day,
Gee, I hope they're not peakingtoo soon, and I'm like,
really, that's that's the issue we'regonna have, if anyone serious. I
mean, look at the Braves, right, they peaking too soon. I'll
take what the Braves are have beenable to do all season. Look,
not having to sweat it out likelike they did a year ago. I

(02:45):
mean, if I'm not mistaken, the Phillies clinched second the last day of
the season or last Yeah, wefinished the season on Wednesday and on Monday
night exactly. The first game downin Houston was was the clinch And even
then it was tight going into thatweekend because I got swept in Chicago and
then we lost the first game againagainst Washington. We don't necessarily need to

(03:05):
go through that again. So separationis good. And and look, the
offense has looked really good. Let'shope they can keep it up. You
know, you know, last nightthey got stummied by a really good picture
and and and and today I faceanother pretty good one and Sonny Gray.
So you know, you hope thatthe Bats can can stay locked in,
they can score some runs today anduh and pull out this this victory.

(03:27):
And then you have to hope thatthe Bats stay alive on the road.
You know, we we haven't seenthat kind of offensive production consistently on the
road so far. Toronto Washington comingup this week. But it's been good
to see the other teams that arein the wildcard race are also have their
fair share of warts. And yeah, so you know, I like where
the Phillies are at. You andI were just talking. There's forty four

(03:51):
games to play. You know,if they can win twenty five of them,
uh, they're gonna be in areally good spot. Yeah. That
gets you to ninety wins. Yeah, I think, let me say twenty
five and nineteen. Yeah, getyou. They get you in ninety win
and think about it, they wanteighty seven. It makes you feel pretty
comfortable about you know, where you'reat going into the playoffs. And it's
not just a matter this year. You don't want to just get into the
playoffs, and you don't want tosqueak into the playoffs. Yeah, like

(04:14):
you know, last year was awesome. Don't don't take anything away from it.
It was it was. It wasincredible, amazing everything about Red October
last year. But you don't wantto go on the road in that Wild
Cards series best of three. Sureyou see what happens here at the Bank
in October, that's what you wantin the best of three, and put
put one of these teams in thatvice gript as. They have to come
in here and deal with us,you know, the fan base and this

(04:35):
team, I agree with you.And so if they do, you know,
kind of play out the way thatyou and I were talking about a
twenty five and nineteen, which Ithink is really doable for a team like
the Phillies. And you look attheir schedule going forward and what they have,
you know, twenty five wins outof their next forty four is certainly
within their reach. And but butwhat I was gonna say was think about

(04:56):
that, folks. That means you'regonna lose nineteen more times. It's okay,
you know, in our scenario, which is a good scenario, gets
them the ninety wins. They're stillgonna lose nineteen more times. You know,
that's baseball. That's that's going tohappen. But if they could get
those twenty five wins, ninety winson the season and improvement from the eighty
seven to one a year ago,I think that gets them in that top
wildcard spot. And I do thinkthat makes a huge difference. I'm right

(05:18):
there with you on that as well. This first segments brought to you by

All right, Mary, let's givesome tickets away here because I wanted

(06:00):
to go to this game because it'sa Friday night and you know, it's
in the summertime and they're playing theCardinals. But the Cardinals are crap,
you know, so I don't haveto worry about that anymore. And plus
I'm gonna be gone that weekend.I'll be coming back that Saturday, so
we could do our show here atExfinity Live. So I'm gonna give away
those tickets on the next couple ofshows here for Phillies Cardinals on Friday,
August twenty fifth, it's seven hfive. Today, we're gonna talk about

(06:23):
give me a song that you herethat reminds you of a movie. Yeah,
it's so great topic. But Ilove the fat ye right, I
love it when you said that.Yeah, yeah, no, it really
is. It's funny many options.Christa and I were driving over here for
the show today and I was lookingthrough your your notes and I said,
Okay, you know, I needto come up with five songs that make
us think of a movie. Andwithin like forty five seconds, we had

(06:45):
had we had five, we hadten, you know, So this is
a partial Murphy. Yes, well, yes, we're kind of in lockstep
when it comes to the songs unit. Yeah, not necessarily the movies,
but the songs. Yeah, we'reboth, we're both music. Uh wanted
to say a fifteenados. That's notthat's not movie buffs. Movie buffs and
music buffs. Okay, So Ido have five. And and again,

(07:09):
I you know, folks who listento our show on a regular basis probably
can have an idea of the timeof the movies, you know, the
the the error of the movies thatI've kind of locked into. But I'll
give you my first one because Italked about this movie all the time.
It's one of my all time favorites. And that's Vacation, the movie Vacation
and the song Holiday Road. Youcannot hear Holiday Road and not think of

(07:31):
Chevy. The only time I hearHoliday Road, it's only linked to the
movie. And if you hear it, you think of Chevy Chason, you
think of of the Family Truckster, and and you think of the Grand Canyon
and all of that. So youknow Holiday Road. Yeah, So,
so Holiday Road is on my list. And and again it gives you a
little bit of a hint of theerror that I'm working in. You know,

(07:54):
you're not gonna find any recent movieson my particular list, so that
that might help some folks at home. See for me, I'm gonna go
with Freebird Forrest Gump. Okay, yeah, the scene of the movie.
What a great soundtrack, bunch ofthem. But you know, you think
about the part. I think it'swhen when Forrest is with Lieutenant Dan and

(08:15):
it's New Year's Eve and he's wonderingwhat Jenna he's doing, and uh,
you know, and she's like inthat hotel room and everyone's like, you
know, they're drunk or they're highor whatever they're they're all over the place,
and she stands up on you know, like she's about to jump off
the balcony, and you know she'shigh on cocaine or whatever whatever she's got
going on. But uh, youknow, whenever you hear that part of

(08:39):
the song, there's so many goodones. There's so many good ones.
And I like, you have magiclegs, Lieutenant Dan, You've got legs.
Yeah, it's great. Movie slashdo you have for us? I
do? And I was telling youguys before the show Titanic my heart.
You know you have to bring Seleneinto every show. Yes, I know,

(09:01):
because he knows who he's playing too. Have you seen the movie Titanic
a million times? You have?Yeah? Okay, okay, I thought
you were like every time? Doesit always end with the boat crashing?
I just cure you just spoiled it. I know I did. Sorry about
well, Titanic two is completely different. So it's great, all right.

(09:22):
So in order to win, youmust answer in the comments section on the
Green Legion Radio YouTube channel, theGreen Legion Facebook page, or our Twitter
handle at green Legion or collective.Favorite answer will win at the beginning of
the final segment, Happy Birthday,Dad. Dad's birthday is on Tuesday,
so I just want to give hima big shout out. And also,
it's great to see Patrick is backout here with us today. First time

(09:43):
we've seen Pat all season. Idon't think I've seen Pat since the playoff
run last year. What was itChristmas time? You look great, by
the way. You know, Iknow the reasons behind it, but you
look great. Oduel's on me anytimethat you want. All right, let's
get out of the box, shallwe. Let's talk about some Phillies Baseball
even two week here we're looking at, you know, the prospects here of

(10:05):
a seven and three homestand yes,the ten game homestand which is great because
not only like two days off thisweek, so they get to rest up
a little bit on Monday and Thursday, but then they have a five game
road road swing, and then theycome back for another nine game Homestand I
know you like this. You getto sleep in your own bed. Uh,
but you know, so it playswell under your favorites, those rich
Carlton beds and the four seasons whatdumps you know you got going on.

(10:31):
But this week they've done a fantasticjob of separating themselves in the wall card
race from the rest of the contenders. Yesterday not so much. I think
everybody gained a game back on themin the wild card standings. Maybe the
Giants, Yeah, yeah, everybody. And and well a half game for
the Reds because they got postponed. They're playing a doubleheader today. But Murphy
we we alluded this alluded to thisearlier on in the show The Big News

(10:54):
of the Week Wednesday nights pitching performancefrom the big trade deadline acquisition and Michael
Lorenzen through the fourteenth no hitter andPhillis history and just a second start and
his Philly's debut at Citizens Bank Park, one hundred and twenty four pitches,
four walks, five strikeouts, Justan incredible, gutsy performance. And there's

(11:15):
so many angles that we can diveinto this. You know, his family
being there. T Mac asked himthe question about you know what his father
would think. Uh, I wantto start here first, Rob Thompson having
the you know, the wherewithal toknow to know the moment and to give
him that moment and you know, hey, twenty pitches, you know for

(11:35):
the last two winnings and he gotquick outs efficient. That's what I loved
every bit of that. And Iloved what he said after the game where
he felt like, you know, that was gonna be his last batter,
was going to be his last batter, and he and joking around about him
having to throw on a bulletproof vestand some kevlar accurate to go ahead and
do that. But Murph, youwere there at the ballpark that night to

(11:56):
experience it. It's funny fourteen I'vebeen at two of them, you know,
I was at Roy Holliday's no hitterin the postseason in twenty ten and
Cole Hamil's no hitter at Wrigley Fieldin twenty fifteen. What an incredible atmosphere
and night. There was only thirtythousand people there, it felt like it
was packed. It felt it soundedlike there was sixty thousand there. For
sure. The crowd did an amazingjob. And you know, we had

(12:16):
Lorenzen on the postgame show as welland asked him, well, I didn't
even ask him, you know,he just said, when you know,
when I came back out in theninth inning, after knowing that I was
going to have an opportunity to comeout in the ninth So when I came
up the steps and the crowd wentcrazy, he said. I was tired,
he said, but that gave mesuch a burst of energy and adrenaline.

(12:37):
He said. It was just amazing. It's been a while since Michael
Lorenzen has played in front of acrowd like that. I mean, I
mean maybe never, and I'm Detroit. Yeah they're not high beds. Yeah,
well you know, but but youknow, even when Cincinnati, you
know, is Cincinnati can be great. But when he was there, not
so much. Yeah, so hehasn't had that opportunity. And he said,

(12:58):
I came up those steps and itjust you know, was flushed with
adrenaline and he was able to getget you know, get in there and
do what he had to do.And you're right, Dominic Smith was his
last batter and he has such aPhillies killer too. That was my biggest
world be too. He's killed us. I totally agree with you give the
give Rob Thompson and Caleb Cougham aton of credit because they and I had

(13:20):
Caleb on the show the next dayand he and I were talking about it
and he said, you know, everybody wants to give these guys that opportunity,
but you really are thinking long term. You're really trying to, you
know, wigh the benefits of theteam versus the benefits of the individual.
And knowing that he was going tohave a little extra rest coming up,
he had been on extra rest andwas going to have a little extra that

(13:43):
was what put him over the top. So it was like this perfect scenario
that worked out for Michael Lorenzen. And they told him twenty more pitches and
I think he got to nineteen ofthose twenty and uh, you know,
but able to get the job done, so many great storylines. As you
mentioned it, it was a trulymagical night at the ballpark. It was
really for for a lot of us, a magical day. We got our

(14:03):
rings earlier in the morning. Congratulationsby the way, I was gonna talk
about in the second sea. Ohno, it just it was the culmination
of that that day. It wasa beautiful night, as you mentioned,
the crowd was great, and thenwe watch a no hitter. Uh.
So just you know, baseball canbe such a beautiful sport, and I
think that's why so many of uslove it the way we do, because

(14:24):
you don't get that kind of thing. You don't get those kinds of stories
in the other sports the way theyunfold. Uh. Michael Lorenzen lost his
father two years ago. Uh,it was his dad's birthday the next day.
You know. You you mentioned Tomask him in the postgame interview what
his dad would have thought. Yeah, And they're just special moments. And

(14:46):
Lorenz and you know, Dave Dombrowskiwalked into the clubhouse during the celebration and
Kyle Sharbern rings Askin's yelled out, hey, Dave nice trade, you know,
and you think about it, Uh, you know, you had a
guy at the deadline he does that. Wow. Normally we say these kind
of nuggets for can you believe Itat the end of the show, But
I was I was joking around withPat probably Thursday Friday, like we could

(15:07):
do the whole entire second segment today, could be can you believe It's?
On everything that's happened in Major LeagueBaseball over the last week. Sure,
there's so much good stuff that hashappened this week in the course of the
game, but like, here's justjust a couple nuggets on that, Sarah
Langs. Michael Lorenzen is the fifthpitcher to throw a no hitter in his
first home game with a franchise, joining Don Don Cardwell, who was the

(15:28):
last one to do it in nineteensixties, sixty three years ago, and
then if the other ones were prenineteen hundred, eighteen, eighteen ninety two,
and eighteen eighty four, and anotherone. This is courtesy or Ryan
Lawrence Ryan Lawrence twenty one on Twitteror x whatever the heck it is now.
Michael Lorenzen is one of four MajorLeague Baseball pitchers to come out of

(15:48):
Fullerton High School in Fullerton, California. All four have thrown no hitters the
Big Train Walter Johnson, Steve Buzzby, Mike Warren and now Michael Lorenz.
Four pitchers out of that high schoolhave made it to the big leagues.
All four of thrown no hitters thatended up self is remarkable. If you
live in Fulton, California, putyour kid on the mountain. Yeah,
put your kid on the mount andsend to that high school. Right absolutely,

(16:08):
it Buzzby through two no hitters,So there's five no hitters. Wow.
Yeah, maybe maybe I did notread that portion, but hey,
you know, it's that's impressive. It's that very impressive. Other cool things
that happened on Wednesday night. Uh, this right here, I'm up until
probably about the fifth or sixth inning, and I'm putting I'm putting Carson to
bed. You know, I'm myfour year old. I'm putting into bed

(16:29):
and I'm laying there and I'm followingon my game cast and I'm sitting I'm
going he doesn't he hasn't allow tohit yet tonight. And then but before
that was the really cool moment fortwenty eight year old West and Wilson,
who was called up last week duringour show last week when Brandon Marsh got
put on the injured list, madehis major league debut on Wednesday and crushed

(16:52):
his third pitch that he ever saw. He swung at the one before crushed
the third pitch that he ever sawended the left field stands. Uh,
first Philly to do so since MarlonAnderson in September eighth, nineteen ninety eight
against the hated Mets. And I'lltell you what, as a dad,
and I know you as a fatheras well, the moment of them panning
in to his father crying in thatmoment is something truly special at that At

(17:15):
that time, I was looking forwardto the postgame interview with Weston Wilson,
and then Michael Lorenzen stole the moment. Yeah he did. And it's funny
because you know, I saw Westonthe next day and I said, you
know, hey, how about Lorenzen. It's kind of stealing your stealing your
juice, right, you know,And you know, obviously he laughed and
he said, you know, playerslove to be a part of that kind
of thing, to be a partof no hitters. But yeah, you

(17:37):
know, here he was making hismajor league debut, hits, the home
run, the family being there. Some of my favorite moments as the field
reporter for the Phillies when I wasdoing television was the opportunity to interview the
families on guys making their major leaguedebuts, and very often we would wait
until after their first at bat,so you know we wouldn't. Tyon Hatcher
did that too, Okay, yeah, yeah, so so we would wait

(17:59):
still lead they replaced her with youwith her? I mean, like,
what were they thinking? That's that'snot but the the uh thought So when
I was normally wait until they becauseyou don't want to you don't want to
take away from that moment, right, but uh, but you know we

(18:19):
we would set it up ahead oftime. Hey, we're gonna come back
after his first de bat and havea conversation with you. Uh. To
have that opportunity to talk to toWeston's family that day would have been amazing
because you could see just what itmeant. I mean, of course,
it means the world. As yousaid, if you're if you're a parent,
even if you're not, you couldprobably relate to how proud you would

(18:42):
be to, you know, towatch your son do that. So,
you know, anytime a guy makesit to the big leagues, it's a
pretty proud moment for the family. But then to have a moment like that,
pretty awesome. Nick Castianos joined theparty, hitting career home runs one
ninety nine and two hundred that night. Lee and Castianos, I think he
needs to be on the team payroll because this kid is everywhere. Yeah,

(19:02):
I mean like he was high fivingevery big moment that happened at night.
He was by the family or downon the field after the game.
And then Johann Rojas is the bestfielding center fielder the Phillies have had since
Shane Victorino. I mean, whatthis kid does, how he picks it,
I'm gonna say Gary Maddox, butnow he makes it look so easy.
I mean, in my lifetime,Shane before that, you know,
Doug Lanville was was a pretty goodcenter fielder. But Shane could go anywhere.

(19:27):
That's the reason why, Like youcould take Pat Burl and you could
take Raoul Labanyas and you could justshade him to the left field line,
the left field foul line, becauseShane would cover everything out there in center
field. But nine putouts. Yeah, I mean putouts that night, which
is the most by outfielder an officialno hitter since nineteen hundred. Yeah.
No, But but his defense hasbeen special. You know, line drives

(19:48):
into the gap now you just expectthem to be tracked down, which is
it is a departure from what wehad been seeing earlier in the season,
you know, and whether that wasyou know, Brandon marsh is a good
center field there, but Yahan Rojasis an elite defender. Yeah, and
we knew that about him. Imean that was the mo of him coming
up. Whether or not his offensewas gonna play at this level remained to

(20:10):
be seen. Yeah. Yeah,he gets his first home run. They
all count, as as Kyle Schrberzsaid, they all count. But you
know, it's just been so greatto see him. I read somewhere the
other day. You know, defensiverun saved is a kind of a weird
stat It's a little subjective, butif you project a full season for something

(20:30):
like nine or something like that, which is a ridiculous number. Uh,
you know, when you stop tothink about, you know, thirty nine
runs prevented over the course of aseason. So he is awesome. To
watch out there now. Michael A. Taylor over the course of the last
two games, it's kind of stolenthe show a little bit, made some

(20:51):
big plays, but but Jahan Rojasis something special to watch out there in
center. Absolutely. Hey, don'thang out alone in the man cave for
baseball this season. Try hanging outat Cheerly with sexy entertainers four dollars domestic
beers. James is specials and awesomegame day experiences all season long. That's
right. Stop in before, during, or after the game, not only
to see your favorite entertainers, butalso your chance to have the best game
day experience. Epic game day experiencesare at Cheerleaders Gentleman's Club where champions play.

(21:17):
Cheerleaders is open daily from noon untiltwo a m. All right,
coming up in the next segment,we're gonna talk about a red hot Trede
Turner, and we're gonna go aroundthe league and we're gonna do a tribute
to the nineteen eighty three and nineteenninety three National League Championship Phillies right here
on one of two point five FoxSports. To Gambler, this is bud
Light Baseball Brunch presented to you bycheerleaders Gentleman's Club. We'll be right back
after this spreads totals, spin allthe prop that sends a twin. It's

(21:42):
the Gambler come back. Second segmenthere Sunday Morning, Phillies Twins this afternoon
at one thirty five. First pitch, which means old, more like being
around one thirty eight if you followthe France y La model. Yeah,

(22:03):
that's probably pretty accurate. You know, big moment happening. I don't know
if you're gonna mention this or not, but big moment happening right around one
thirty three, I would imagine becauseLarry will not be on the very top
of the broadcast because he is goingto be throwing out the first pitch today,
the only player to be on boththe eighty three and the ninety three

(22:26):
National League Championship teams. So hehas represented that he's throwing the first pitch
out to Ozzy Virgil as a catcherfrom the eighty three team. So it's
gonna be a cool moment for ourbuddy Larry as he gets down on the
field, and I gotta believe heis going to get a rousing ovation as
he always does when he gets introduceddown on the field. You know,

(22:47):
today all the alumni will get introducedand uh and Larry getting the honor of
throwing the first pitch, which whichI think is awesome. So does that
mean Stock is gonna be sitting infor like the top of the first I
mean Scott will be on his own, Okay, Yeah, I'm just making
sure because I know that you knowStock, did you know maybe half a
Stock popped in the other night onthe Friday Night round Table and and I

(23:07):
think you guys were trying to justmake sure to let him know that he
wasn't getting paid for. Yeah,I made sure. I told him.
I said, look, we're notpaying you for this. Pal. You
know you can. You can jumpin on the phone all you want and
try to be a part of theFriday Night round Table, but my budget
is what it is, and you'renot getting any cash from me. For
those of you before I go inand I do my live read at the
top of this segment, if youguys do not tune in to the Friday
Night Roundtable after every Phillies game Fridaynight, Friday Night, Yeah, every

(23:33):
Friday Night game, you are missingout. It is entertaining. It is
quality radio. It is just qualityentertainment to listen to all you guys because
you want know why. It's like, you know, you get get a
part of the personalities of all thebroadcasters throughout the course of a broadcast,
whether it's on TV or on radio. But you guys really allow yourselves to
open up and feel like, youknow, just regular everyday people. You

(23:55):
guys have great jobs. You know, you guys live the dream doing what
you're doing covering the Phillies and fora lot of you guys, a team
that you guys are growing up followingor playing for. But what you guys
do on Friday nights, it justreally allows us into the booth and behind
the scenes and to get you toknow you guys just a little bit better.
Yeah, you know, it's funnybecause we always say some nights,
you know, some nights are betterthan others. Always more fun coming in

(24:18):
after a win, getting a chanceto do the show would have been fun
last night, Yeah, what's that? No, it would not have been.
It would not have been as enjoyable. So when they win on Friday
night, we can kind of letour hair down a little bit and kind
of let you. For those ofyou that haven't, Yeah, yeah,
which is me and Franski. That'sit. Yeah. But then Davis when
he joins it, Yeah, thisisn't real though. Stuff that's a wig.

(24:41):
Don't tell anybody. I thought thatwas Chris Wheeler. Nope, Wheels
doesn't worth the way I had totake the shot that one. Hey,
all right. So the second's broughtto you by Premier Window Cleaning, which

one nine eight. That's two sixseven five three four five one nine eight.

(25:23):
We'll go to their website. Wehate dirty windows dot com. That's
we hate dirty Windows dot com.Murph. I teased it going into break,
but man, these nine games isexactly the magic elixir that trade turner
needed. H he has really foundhis stroke over the course of this homestand
whether you want to chalk it upto the ovation on you know, last

(25:44):
Friday night where you want to justsay, hey, we're playing the Royals,
the Nationals and now you know theTwins, who are barely above five
hundred but their first place in theAmerican League Central. Nine games, six
runs, ten rbi, six ofthem are doubles, the sixteen hits,
six of them doubles, two homeruns. He's sitting four fifty seven with
a one point two eight six ops. On top of that, he's been

(26:06):
playing pretty sound defensively as well.Uh, this was the trade turner that
we were expecting to get when wesigned into an eleven year, three hundred
and thirty million dollar contract. Yeah, and this is the trade turner that
I've been saying I think we're goingto see. It took a long no,
it and it took a lot longerthan I think anybody would have anticipated.
When he know, if I remembercorrectly, his apron was was good,

(26:30):
but then he went into the slumpkind of in the beginning of May,
and it was decent and nap itwas just feel like you you were
waiting, like because yeah, heyeah, but he's like Swarberry that you
know, notoriously slow start, buthe wasn't doing the big major things that
you expected him to do right andand and you know, I think for
baseball fans that can can put thingsin perspective and take a step back.

(26:53):
You you expected him to find hisstroke and and become the player that he
has been for his entire career. It just makes more sense that he's that
guy than he is the guy thatwe had been seeing. But it did.
It took a long time. Youknow, you mentioned the ovation and
you mentioned the teams are playing.I think it's a combination of both.
I think I think, you know, it's fair to say that the pitching

(27:17):
that the Phillies have seen on thishomestand has not been elite pitching, and
the Phillies have taken advantage of that. However, you know, over the
last two and a half months,Tray Turner has seen a lot of bad
pitching and not had the success thathe's had. Baseball is such a game
of confidence, and these guys areall confident in their abilities, but hey,

(27:37):
they're also a human and when youstruggle and you start to question what
you've been doing, and you startto question pretty much everything, you lose
confidence. And I think Trey washaving a crisis of confidence. And then
you come in to the ballpark onthat day after having a dreadful series on
the road, and you get pickedup by forty five thousand plus, not

(27:59):
the Swans, but over the courseof two or three days, you know,
several times that can't help but helpyour confidence. And I think,
I don't it wasn't the only factor. No, I don't. I don't
believe so, but I was apart of it. It was a part
of it. And and and Treyalmost acknowledged that himself, you know when
he in his postgame comments like thankyou, I needed that kind of thing,

(28:22):
right, you know, the billboardsgo up and he dies the curtain
call. That's all his way ofsaying that this could have gone the other
way, and I'm not sure thatwould have helped me, but it went
this way, and I think itdid help me. And so you know
what, cool. You know, now he's got to keep it up.
You know, hopefully the Trey we'reseeing right now is the Trey we're gonna

(28:42):
see right through September and into thepostseason. There's no reason to believe it
won't be, because that's the guythat they signed to the contract. But
you know, it's a small samplesize, but I'm pretty encouraged. The
Trey is pretty close to being back. How Stella got a group back,
right, I mean, how Turnergot his group back. We'll take it.

(29:02):
Yeah, we'll take it. Iknow you kind of talked about this
the other day the day of theno hitter and Weston Wilson and Cassianos and
all the good things I happen onWednesday. Uh, you got your National
League champion ring me and two hundredand fifty other and I love every bit
of it. I know. Iknow we had talked at the end of
last season on our final show. You know, I wish it was the

(29:23):
bigger one. I wish it wasthe better one, and and hey,
listen, we're gonna do everything wecan to get you back there and have
another shot at it this year. But man, so so proud of you.
The last few years, you know, us doing this show and to
see where the team has come overthe last few years and you know our
show and how our relationship has grown. I'm so excited for you, and

(29:44):
nobody deserved it more than you.Well, I don't know about that,
but I'm talking about yeah, Likethink about it though, like, yeah,
the players are the ones out thereon the field that are doing it.
But you put up with all thoserough years after that great run you
started on the TV side in twentytwelve, and you know, the COVID
year comes along, and you knoweverything that comes along with that, and
then they wind up getting rid ofthe position and doing part time in twenty

(30:07):
twenty one and having to deal withme you know, pretty much all the
time. But I'll tell you likethat that right there, you you paid
the price, you paid your duesto be able to be with the team
last year and have that moment toget that ring. You were just as
big a part of it just asanybody else over the last ten years.
Thank you, And I feel unbelievablyblessed to be in the position that I'm
in, uh, to be withthe Phillies be you know, back with

(30:30):
the Phillies now on the radio sideand and getting a chance to be with
the team. It was a reallyspecial morning. Uh. The you know,
I don't know how many people, but I want to say it was
it was close to three hundred theygot the rings. It was like a
college graduation. One by one,we all got called up by name,
uh and got got your ring, you put it on, You got a

(30:52):
picture with your vice president of yourdepartment along with uh Dave Dombrowski, Sam
Fold and and it was just itwas cool and it was I would think
it took about two and a halfhours, but everybody was was just into
it. John Middleton got up andspoke and said exactly what you just said.
You know, I wish we werethe bigger one, and we're gonna
get the bigger one. But thisis nice for now, but let's get

(31:15):
the bigger one. You know that. You know, John's all about winning
that World Series of course that damntrophy back. Yeah, and we all
got our picture staying with John aswell. So it was it was really
cool. The ring is spectacular. Most fans have seen it so far,
but uh, you know, aredown here in a couple of weeks.
Yeah, you know I should have. You know, we're leaving for the

(31:36):
road, uh tonight, So Ididn't want to bring it with me on
the road. But if there's aif there's a show where we're staying put,
I'll bring it down here so folkscan see it. But uh,
you know, for a kid togrow up here in South Jersey, born
in Phillies, Phillies fan since Ican, as long as I can remember,
to have a ring with this organizationnow is pretty darn special. It's

(31:59):
it's it's it's it's not something Iever thought would happen, but here we
are. I love the picture ofyou and Chris Sith together. Yeah,
both of your rings. She's gottwo now because christ she got a two
thousand and nine that she started withthe Phillies in two thousand and nine,
so she got the oh nine ring. And I used to, you know,
take her own nine ring and putit on and be like, this
thing is amazing. It's half thesize of the twenty twenty two. I

(32:23):
mean it's half the size. It'sunbelievable. The difference. The twenty twenty
two National League Championship ring is biggerthan the World Series ring from two thousand
and eighty. Wow. Yeah, that's how big they are. They're enormous,
they're but they're John Middleton must haveheard our show a couple of years
ago when I called him cheap.John Middleton is, oh, I'm sorry,
that is the so far for beingtrue. Do you think he's tuned

(32:44):
in right now? I'm sorry,John, I should be sorry. All
right, So, speaking Nation Leaguechampions today, we're gonna honor two of
them, the nineteen eighty three teamin the nineteen ninety three team. Obviously,
I was born in nineteen eighty six, so you could speak to the
nineteen eighty three half of this, and I'll go on the ninety three side,
So you go ahead, three yeah, I mean you know, I
was a twelve year old kid. They won the obviously won the World Series

(33:07):
in eighty with that special group, and then the eighty three team was what
they called them Louise Kids. Theybrought all of these Hall of Fame caliber
players in and with like a onelast chance with Carlton, uh it's still
on the staff, and Schmitty's stillthere obviously, you know, one last
chance to try and get there.Gary Matthews at that time, and they

(33:30):
did. They got to the WorldSeries. They end up losing to the
Baltimore They one game one and lastthe next four, last the next four.
I remember watching that series and obviouslybeing disappointed, But you know,
you think back to that eighty threeteam and what they were able to accomplish
in some of the names that wereon and we've lost a couple of them
at this point. But to seethese guys back here this week, it's

(33:52):
always fun to see the alumni back. But when you get a chance to
see the guys that you don't see, you know, we see the O
eight guys all the time, Wesee the eighty guys all the time,
we see the ninety three guys allthe time. We don't see the nineteen
eighty three team very often. Right, and they're all back. A lot
of them are back, and hhe rose back today. Hot Pete is
not back. Pete is not here. I didn't know if they extended they

(34:14):
should have a special invite for himat Lena Dextra Dope. That didn't happen.
We can't put him in a UFCcage that might be the best place
for the actually but now it's specialalumni weekends always cool. Yeah, and
but when you're celebrating, you know, the anniversaries of these teams, it's,
uh, it's really cool. Soyeah, for me, the ninety

(34:35):
three team, that's a lot likeyou, The ninety three team was my
first love in life. Like Iremember, my dad had a sixteen game
plan, uh you know, acouple of years before that leading into it.
I was seven years old, andI just remember, like you have
vivid memories, you know, LikeI don't remember like my first game,
and probably my dad doesn't either, but like I remember, like we went

(34:55):
to a game that year at theVet End. It was against the Reds
and it was the hottest day ofthe year and they were giving out blue
Acme jackets. It was jacket dayat the ballpark. Well done. The
Phillies were blowing the team out. They were blowing the Reds out, and
it like we left it like thefifth or sixth inning to go home and
go swimming. And my dad broughtme to my first playoff game that year,

(35:15):
Game two, the ninety three NLCSagainst the Braves, and I still
break his shops about it because wecould have went to Game six, but
my dad wanted to have a guaranteedgame. So smart. Yeah, well
no it wasn't because Fred mc griffhit two home runs that day and one
of them still has not yet toland. And you know from orbit,
but you know, sitting in thesix hundred level with my dad. Uh,
just special memories that you that youcan't you can't put a price on

(35:37):
things. I say it to peopleall the time, like, you know
the point of having tickets for sportingadvances for the memory and stagging in the
in the memory bank. I'm nothere to make money off of my tickets.
I'm here to make sure that I'mhere for the for those great moments
of memories that happened at this ballparkthroughout the course of my life, and
I want that to same, tobe the same values for my kids.
The ninety three Phillies, Darren Dalton, John Kruk, Dave Holland, Kevin

(36:00):
Stocker, Mickey Morandini, Lenny Dykstrap. For all his faults, Kurt Schilling
was was just a complete Nutter machine. He should be in the Hall of
Fame. Mitch Williams, you know, stand up guy. So many great
players and personalities on that team thatI'll cherish for the rest of my life
for them bringing me in as beinga baseball fan. Yeah, and you
know, and I was talking aboutgetting a chance to see some of the

(36:21):
guys you don't we don't often getto see. We used to see Dave
Hollins a lot head yeah, becausehe was he was a scout for the
Phillies, so he would come inand and you know, during their meetings
times, and we would get tosee Dave. But it's been a couple
of years since we've seen Dave.I saw him yesterday, got a big
hug from Dave Hollins. And ifyou would have told me in nineteen ninety
three, young uh Phillies reporter.Back then, I was covering the team

(36:45):
and completely out of my depth anduh, you know, just completely in
all of the guys in the clubhouseand petrified of them all at the same
time, including Dave Holland if youwould have told me that, you know,
fast forward thirty years and I'd begetting, you know, hugs from
Dave Hollins. And I told you, what are you crazy? Dave doesn't
hug anybody, you know, becausebut he is such a wonderful guy.

(37:07):
Yeah, And you know, andmy relationship with John as you know,
a friend is John Kruc is afriend of mine. You know, if
you would have told me that backin nineteen ninety three, i'mould have told
you you were nuts. But itis special to to see these guys and
it's special to watch them interact withone another. You know, we had
Bobby Thinkpen. We're gonna have BobbyThinkpen on the show today. Bobby Thinkpenn

(37:30):
spent two and a half months onthat ninety three team, as did Rod
Dromastion, right, you know, two guys that came in midway through the
season, but both of them talkabout just that intense two and a half
month period where they spend time withthese guys and the bonds that they have
forever, and it's just cool tosee them reconnect and and and relive so

(37:54):
many of those great moments. It'swhat it's all about. And the Phillies
they do Alumni Weekend is good,if not better than everybody, and it's
it's just a lot of fun, real quick, before we go to break,
I would be remiss if I didnot mention this because it happened after
our show last week. Oriels broadcasterKevin Brown was to suspend it and definitely

(38:14):
and he was brought back to thebroadcast on Friday night and he released the
statement, which I think is,you know, crap. In my mind,
I don't think he wrote a singleword of it. I think it
was mainly done by the PR departmentfor the Orioles. But what a complete
and absolute disgrace to Orils. Areone of the best stories in Major League
Baseball this season, and to makethemselves a mockery with this issue. I

(38:35):
mean, there was a graphic thatwas made up for it. There's no
surprise that he was going to talkabout the Oriel struggles at Tropicana Fields against
the Rays over the previous few years. I know Tom McCarthy took a little
subtle shot the other night at theOriels. Your thoughts on the situation being
a broadcaster for the Phillies over thelast decade plus, Yeah, my feeling
is this, I feel very badlythat Kevin Brown had to get uh dragged

(39:00):
through a situation like that. Hedid what each of us do each and
every day or try to, andthat is report the facts on the team
that you're covering. What he didis absolute broadcasting one oh one and he
did absolutely nothing wrong, and itwasn't It was an embarrassment the way the

(39:22):
Orioles organization treated him, and andI just feel badly that that he had
to go through that, because youknow, he's a young, talented guy
in our business, and I tookmy cap to to his ability to do
the job and and to just haveto go through the mental stress of did

(39:44):
I just ruin my career by doingwhat everybody else is doing? You know,
it's not you know, we've seeninstances where where broadcasters have dumb,
really dumb stuff and stuff, youknow, and and those people you say,
hey, you know that that's onyou. But for what Kevin did.
We do every night, every singlenight, you know, we'll point

(40:06):
out negative things about the Phillies, and for twenty nine organizations that's okay,
and for one apparently it was not. And I hope the Orioles are embarrassed
by what happened. I don't knowif they are. He's back, and
that's great. I'm thrilled that he'sback and gonna be able to continue to

(40:27):
do what he does because we needhim in the game. I hope the
Orioles learned a valuable lesson. We'llsee absolutely green Legion here to tell you

Phillies Cardinals, Friday, August twentyfifth. It's seven h five song that

(42:44):
reminds you of a movie. Giveme the rest of your top five,
all right? So again, Ithought this was really easy. Probably could
have come up with fifteen pretty easily. But I already give you a Holiday
Road. You're already cutting in ahalf, he said, thirty early.
I mean I could keep going andgoing and gone, but I've got five,
and they're good ones. I thinkHolliday Road from the movie Vacation.

(43:04):
You can't help but think of Chevywhen we heard that on the oldiest station
yet. But but but it's stillit's it's vintage to that movie, absolutely
all right? Uh and easy?So I said, this is like the
Kenny Loggins memorial list, because itseems like Kenny Loggins has most of these
songs. But uh, foot Loose, you know, I mean right,
the whole movie is based on thatsong. Hey, it's so so foot

(43:30):
Loose. You can't help but thatyou hear that, you think of the
movie, think of Kevin Bacon doinghis little Dance where you know he's kicking
off Kevin Bake another good one.All right, danger Zone, Top Gun.
You know, I guess you couldtalk about the new Top Gun because
they they played danger Zone in thattoo, right, they probably had I
think they did. But but obviouslythe original Danger Zone if it hasn't seen

(43:52):
that about like five or six times, he could tell you, yeah,
well, hey, it's that wasa great I've seen it twice. That
was a good movie. But theoriginal Top Gun Danger Zone again, I'm
all right, uh from Caddy ShackKenny Loggins, all right, yeah,
yeah, yeah, all I canthink it was the gopher at that point,
you know, he's digging up thegreen on the on sixteen and Bill

(44:13):
Murray is having a conniption. SoI'm all right from from Footloose and uh
and then kind of like your yourcoming of age movie for people my age,
which is a long time ago.But the Breakfast Club, don't you
Forget about Me? It was allthe last night, great great movie.
Once once I came back to thecouch and it was I know that whole

(44:34):
movie in my heart and it waseight nothing. I watched the last fifteen
minutes of that before it was FerrisBueller's day off. All right, don't
you forget about me? So,there you go. That's my list.
It's a good jam right there. All right, Mary, let's run down
the list here, stand by me. O. Great one, great one.
Kenny Loggins meet me halfway over thetop. Okay, great one?
Yeah, all right? Uh,simple minds, Uh, simple minds.

(44:55):
Don't you Breakfast Club? Yeah, don't you forget about me? There you
go, a there we go.All right. I have the Tiger Rocky
three, of course, just alittle bit of south, a little bit
south of Saskatoon. Slap shot.Oh that's obscure. Okay, my heart
will go on. Titanic. I'venever heard of the movie Shout Animal House.
Yeah, I thought about that onetime of my life. Dirty Dancing,

(45:17):
another good one, Jump around,Happy Gil. Nobody puts back in
the corner. No, nobody putsback on the happy gay footloose. There
you go. So I got twoon the list. Born to Be Wild,
Easy Rider, Layla, Eric Clapton, Goodfellas, Oh, okay,
is this is this Ko Ko slash? Alright? Go alright? Go oh

(45:37):
rain Man Yeah, okay, yeah, Gangsters Paradise, Dangerous Minds, say
a little prayer my best friend's wedding. I know, I'm surprised that wasn't
on your list. No, youknow what that that's a great scene.
I don't necessarily well, I guessI would associate that with the movie.
So yeah, that's fair and wildthing major league. Oh, that's a
good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's our

(45:59):
list. I'm I'm gonna go ahead, Layla, good Fellas, good Fellas,
all right, Letty you coming outcoming all the way. I think
that's your third straight week of referencinggood when they had the guy in the
in the truck and he's frozen withthe meat, like and they're like all
the guys like they're finding all thedead bodies all over the place because because
Jimmy was wiping everybody. You shouldsee The Godfather. I do see.

(46:20):
See I'm progressing though, I canfinally talk about these things. But I'm
gonna go and Layla is a greatsong, all right. So so there's
two from my list on there, which I think is to me poetic license
to go away from both of thembecause I like it. Think I didn't
think of stand by Me, Okay, and I'm going stand by me.

(46:43):
Yeah, so that's my voice slashwith the tiebreaker. I think I gotta
go stand by me. It's moreit's more of a legendary too. Yeah
to me, amazing song. Idon't affiliate it with any movies or good
fellas. Yeah, just give thefirst thing that pops into my head here,
Laila, So I would agree withthat part stand by me obviously,

(47:06):
you know, yeah, it isthe movie. Congratulations to Alicia Mayor.
All right, Alicia Mayor when ticketsa new new person winning the tickets this
week. We've got a lot ofnew winners this year. I loved one,
all right, All rights up.We're giving those tickets away. They
are out of here, all right. So now let's get to our picks.
We gotta do this real quick becausewe still have can't you believe it.
We gotta talk about the week thatis ahead. Murph went one and
two last week, but you scoredthe two points with your underdog Astros and

(47:29):
the Bronx that puts you at twentythree and twenty five with thirty and a
half points. I went two andone last week for three points. I
hit my favorite Oriels and the underdogMariners. So I'm at twenty eight and
twenty with thirty five points on theseason. You're five points ahead of me.
I mean, if you want towell, that's what that's what we
go by. We want to talkabout the half point five and a half

(47:50):
points? Are we leaving that out? No? Okay, five and a
half point? I mean, yeah, did you get a half a point
or did I get you got ahalf a point because you bet somebody that
was a favorite that was minus twohundred plus. Yeah, okay, let's
give me a first pick. Allright, here's my first pick. And
I spent a lot of time onthese picks this week. I think it's
solid four and a half minutes. So the Brewers and the White Sox are
getting together today. The Brewers havesomething to play for the White Sox don't.

(48:14):
The Burs only minus one twenty six, which I guess makes me a
little nervous. I'm taking the Bursis my favorite. They'll sweep the series,
sweep Chicago out. It's in Chicago. I guess that's the one thing
the White Sox have going for him. But I'll take the Brewers. All
right, Well, I'll stick inthat game because I had the under eight
and a half in that game.Brewers, White Sox over on Friday Night
under last night, Freddy Peralta versusDylan Cease. I'm gonna say that's a

(48:37):
low scoring affair. Yeah under.Either of those guys have been very good
this year. Yeah, but Ijust think that I don't think the offensives
in either of those teams are thatgreat either. Okay, so I'm gonna
go and a half on the onthe Brewers and White Sox. All right,
give me your dog, all right, my dog is and I have
absolutely zero russianale for this other thanwow, these are two really bad teams,

(48:57):
and one of them has to winand one of them has to lose.
The A's are playing the Nats today. The A's are the underdog.
They have just as good a chanceto beating the Nationals as the Nationals have
a beat in the A's. Nota great pitching matchup either, So it's
just a bad baseball game and I'mjust gonna hope the A's win. That's
did you see that play last nightwhere the pitching god yep? The story
of the twenty twenty three Oakland Athletics. My favorite is the Padres Today,

(49:21):
I'm gonna go minus one thirty fiveat Arizona to win the series over the
Diamondbacks. Diamondbacks have really been struggling. The Padres are still the only team
in Major League Baseball over the lasttwo weeks. The Rolls won seven in
a row. The Nationals then wonfour in a row before we beat him
in the first game in the doubleheader on Tuesday. The only team in
Major League Baseball had yet to winfour games in a row. Yeah,
that's crazy. And they still theylost last night, so they're still trying

(49:42):
to get back up there. Soseth Luco today versus some guy that's Owen
six with a seven point one sixeer a, I think it's fought.
You know, it's at p FAADT. He stinks. Sure, So
I'm gonna take the Padres minus onethirty five. Give me your final pick,
all right, over under for meYankees and Marlins getting together in South
Florida. The over under seven, which is a very low over. Yeah,

(50:04):
because Garret Coles taken. So GarrettCole and jury press, I'm gonna
take the under, which is againsteverything that I normally would do, which
is probably a good thing. SoI'm taking the under under seven, hoping
Garrett Cole just has a monster game, could either of these offenses or any
good either too, So I'm goingunder seven. I'm gonna go with the
Texas Rangers is my underdog to continueto help the Phillies this weekend at San

(50:29):
Francisco to sweep them in their weekendset. Dane Dunning nine and four with
a three point two one ear aagainst Logan Webb, who's in the nine
and nine with a three point threeeight ear a. I'm going with the
Rangers. Seventy wins on the season, today's number seventy one, can you
believe it? Four thousands of oneof six to five and the wild phase

(51:05):
RB I had tea believe it.We believe the two things we found interesting
from this past week in Major LeagueBaseball, Murph, give me your first
one, all right? Going tothe Baltimore Orioles the good part of that
story this year, Ever since callingup Adlee Rushman their catcher, Baltimore has
yet to be swept in seventy sixcontext secutive series. That's the fifth longest

(51:28):
streak in MLB history and the longestsince the nineteen forty two forty four Cardinals.
Think about back. That is incredible, seventy six consecutive series that they
have not been swept. Pretty impressed. So much young talent on that team
too. So here's here's one foryou. And the Marlins. Okay,
their home run leaders total since twentyseventeen. Jerald Carlos Stanton is at the

(51:50):
top of that list. Fifty ninehome runs. He only played for the
Marlins in twenty seventeen. How aboutthat? Pretty cool, right, Yeah,
that is that's a good one.I think they were getting a little
nervous, so that's the reason whythey traded away Garrett Cooper because he was
at fifty two. Yeah, that'sthat's interesting, all right. How about
this one from memlov stats. TheBraves are the first team to hit have

(52:13):
tally ten plus hits in ten consecutivegames since the Royals did it back in
twenty sixteen. Ten hits in tenconsecutive games. Nine of those hits were
probably home runs, because that's whatthe Braves do right now. They just
hit mash home runs. Yeah,no doubt about it. This one right
here. I always love, youknow, the misery that comes with the
Mets, their fans and anybody thatsupports them. The Mets on Friday night

(52:37):
were the only Major League baseball teamin the modern era to collect seven plus
hits, draw nine plus walks ina nine ending baseball game, but not
score a single run. Wow,that's hard to do. That's hard to
do. And you know another thingabout the Mets. Is there a half
game out of last place in NationalLeague? Yes, it's crazy. It's
crazy, all right. So theweek ahead, So today's rubber match with

(52:58):
the Twins alumni week end. Everybody'sgonna get honored today. In nineteen eighty
three, nineteen ninety three, PhilliesDay off Monday, two games set in
Toronto against the Blue Jays, offday on Thursday, and then we go
to Washington for three next weekend.Gotta keep on sacking these wins, Gotta
keep on winning these series. Andit starts today with the Twinkies. Yeah,
I gotta win the series. Ithink that's exactly what you gotta the
way you gotta think, So wintoday. It's gonna be a tough game

(53:21):
today. Look sunny gray is agood picture. Rangers gonna have to be
really good today and the Phills batsare gonna have to come alive, but
hopefully they win the series. Today, head out on the road and try
and to keep this momentum going.Toronto has been a house of horrors for
the Phillies over the last couple ofyears. They've got two up there before
heading to the Nationals, which hasbeen a house of happiness over the last

(53:43):
couple of years. So hopefully theycan come out of this this road trip.
Just five games, but you know, winners of three of two,
three and two or or or hopefullyfour and one. That'd be I'd be
ideal, but it's gonna be tough, but hopefully they play some good baseball.
It sounds great partner, and hewas always coming out and joining us
here. X finniy Live. Ourlast show at xfiniy Live is going to

(54:04):
be in two weeks before the Cardinalsgame, So make sure you guys come
on out and support us here aswell. Slash on the board here,
the magic Man, Kyle Nunnamaker andthe hardest working man and show business John
Jansen back in the studio. I'mChris Sacker, Green Legion Radio. Like
a three one pitch to Ryan Howard, we are out of here, Phillies.
Let's put some runs on the boardtoday and let's walk away with another
series dub.
