Welcome to the Guilbault Girls Show where you will have the opportunity to hear from mothers, fathers, siblings, and individuals themselves about their journey of living with a disability.

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Guilbault Girls Show. I am your host Karen Guilbault, and today’s guest is Katelyn Baldwin from The Kennedy Krieger’s Adaptive Sports Program out of Baltimore City, Maryland.

At Kennedy Krieger Institute, they believe that individuals living with disabilities should have every opportunity to pursue their dreams. Participating in sports and recreational programs gives both children and adults the opportunity to set goals and achieve increased independence. Sports, both competitive and recreational, teach life skills, promote confidence, and develop leadership. Friendships are built, accomplishments are recognized, and people are supported to achieve their fullest potential.

Whatever your age, ability level, experience, or schedule, the Adaptive Sports Program at Kennedy Krieger has something for you. From the thrill of downhill skiing to a serene day of fishing or sailing, they strive to offer opportunities for people with disabilities to experience outdoor recreation in exciting ways.

All activities in the Adaptive and Rehabilitative Sports Program are supervised by experienced staff members, including recreational and physical therapists, and take into account individual needs and abilities. The program is open to current and former students and patients, as well as individuals living in the community who are interested in trying out a new activity or resuming a sport or activity they previously enjoyed.

“It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that means an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to grow in a safe and healthy environment.

“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say it’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem. Then there are those who see the need and respond.” -Fred Rogerss
