and spirit.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
So at Harmony Hub
Health, I'm a big fan of
effective, affordable andevidence-based therapies,
especially the ones that giveyou noticeable results without
draining your wallet or yournervous system.
One of my favorites that I'vebeen talking about lately are
castor oil packs.
Whether you need to supportdetoxification, hormone balance,
(00:56):
autoimmune regulation or yourlymphatic flow, castor oil packs
are a staple in my protocolsand, yes, I use them in my
routine as well.
But what is castor oil and whydo we use it?
So castor oil is extracted fromthe seeds of the Racinus
communis plant.
Its magic lies in the primaryactive compound, racinoleic acid
(01:18):
, which accounts for more than90% of its fatty acid content.
Rather than ingesting it pleasedon't do that, this isn't 1910,
we use castor oil transdermally, applying it over targeted
organs like the liver or thethyroid, with a soft pack and
some gentle heat.
This method stimulates thelymphatic system.
(01:39):
It improves blood flow andreduces inflammation in a
localized, controlled andresearch-supported way.
So let's talk about themechanism of action of the
racinoleic acid.
So it does reduce prostaglandinE2, also known as PGE2, which
(02:00):
lowers inflammation.
It increases nitric oxideproduction, which improves
microcirculation.
It activates lymphatic flow, soit clears waste and fluid
retention, and it stimulates thevagus nerve, so this encourages
parasympathetic rest and digestmode.
When you pair it with heat, theoil penetrates the skin and
(02:21):
sends signals to your immune anddetox systems.
This results in better drainage, improved digestion, lowered
inflammation and calmer nervoussystem regulation, especially
when you use it consistently asa functional medicine
practitioner.
Juggling patients, protocols andpeptide therapy.
(02:42):
Mornings are my sacred hour ofself-care because I take growth
hormone stimulating peptides inthe morning.
We eat dinner late and I can'tstay awake that long at night to
take it at night because youneed to take it on an empty
stomach.
So I have to wait a full hourbefore I can enjoy my beloved
(03:03):
cup of coffee, if I have one inthe morning, and that leaves me
with 60 glorious minutes to beproductive without eating or
drinking.
So my morning often looks likethis I can apply my castor oil
liver pack.
I plug in my heating pad I dohave one that's shaped like an
axolotl.
It brings me a lot of joy.
I found it on the fast shippingdelivery service and then I can
(03:27):
either apply a face mask or LEDlight therapy, or I can hop
into my sauna bag if I want afull detox stack.
Winston, my friend, she doesnot allow me to go to my
infrared sauna in my basement.
He doesn't like to be that faraway from me in the morning.
But this is a very efficientcombo.
It's restorative, it supportsmy liver, my lymph, my skin.
(03:50):
And one quick heads up if youare using a liver pack on an
empty stomach, make sure thatyou can have time to go to the
bathroom.
Number two it's very effectiveat stimulating motility and bile
flow, and you've been warned.
Very effective at stimulatingmotility and bile flow, and
you've been warned.
So castor oil is a powerhousewhen it comes to supporting
(04:13):
detoxification and drainage, especially when you use it
topically as a castor oil pack.
Um, you place this castor oilpack over the liver and it helps
stimulate lymphatic flow.
It increases glutathioneproduction and it improves phase
one and two liverdetoxification.
So it can help clear outenvironmental toxins, hormonal
(04:33):
metabolites like estrogen, medication residues if you're
taking prescription medications, alcohol byproducts, mold and
mycotoxins.
With binder support, castor oilalso stimulates the movement of
lymph, especially in areas likeyour underarms.
It's great for deodorant detoxor if you're having breast
(04:53):
tenderness, your neck to reducepuffiness, headaches, skin
congestion and the abdomen forthat deeper organ drainage.
When you place it over theabdomen, you can improve your
bowel flow.
You can stimulate the vagusnerve and parasympathetic tone
and relieve that constipationand gas.
And it also helps mobilizestagnant waste in your GI tract.
(05:15):
So this is perfect for anybodyon GLP-1 that already has a
slowed GI tract to begin with.
You can also use it forreproductive detox or for
hormone balance by placing thecastor oil pack over your pelvic
region so it reduces periodpain and blood stagnation.
It can shrink fibroids andcysts over time and it supports
(05:37):
that estrogen metabolism forthose that are estrogen dominant
.
And while castor oil doesn'tbind metals directly, it does
enhance drainage from the liverand lymph, making it a great
supportive therapy.
Alongside binders like Zeolite, activated charcoal Z-binder is
one I use a lot in my protocols.
You can use it topicallywithout heat.
(06:00):
It can pull out impurities fromyour pores, you can calm
inflamed skin and you canimprove acne prone areas,
especially around the jawlineand lymphatic zone.
So you could use castor oil fora skin detox.
And remember, the liver is yourdetox CEO.
It processes hormones, itmetabolizes toxins, it clears
(06:22):
histamine, it supports digestion.
So when you place it over thatliver you boost that bowel flow
and support phase two detox.
Um, you know, hormonal balanceand acne due to estrogen
metabolites being high.
It can assist with metabolismof those.
It helps with bloating skinissues and sluggish digestion
(06:43):
and support histamine clearanceand reduces inflammation in any
mold or autoimmune protocol.
The thyroid area which is at thebase of your neck is home to
dense lymphatics which oftenbecome congested.
If you have Hashimoto's, ifyou've had viral illnesses or
chronic inflammation, you canapply the castor oil pack here.
(07:04):
I do have thyroid packs atMonarch Beauty and Spa, along
with liver packs, and thethyroid pack reduces neck
puffiness and lymph stagnation.
It improves thyroid circulationand immune regulation.
It can reduce those antibodylevels and improve energy and
mental clarity and it enhancesvagal tone for whole body calm.
(07:31):
I recommend and what I carry atMonarch Beauty and Spa is the
Queen of Thrones Castor OilPacks because they use organic
cold press hexane free oil.
It's non-toxic, it's reusableand they have a very good mess
resistant design.
It's a very comfortable cottonflannel layering and it has
secure straps so you can move itto the area you want to use.
(07:53):
They have very thoughtfulpackaging and it's by functional
medicine trained practitioners.
It's also affordable and it canlast up to three months with
proper care and it makes it oneof the best detox toolkits you
can have at home.
There is another oil that I dolike from Higher Dose.
I do have a discount code ifanybody's interested in that.
(08:15):
It's called endorphin oil andit's great to use during sauna
sessions.
It amplifies sweat, detox yourcore body temperature, and they
also feature cold press organiccastor oil with magnesium and a
warming essential oil blend, andit's their modern take on the
(08:38):
ancient tradition of castor oildetoxes, so it's perfect for
when you're going to sweat.
Okay, because castor oil is theworld's oldest and most
effective herbal remedy.
It's like a thick golden oiland it has been prized for its
healing properties for thousandsof years.
This is not a new treatment andI just love the higher dose
(09:02):
because it has the organiccastor oil, magnesium, jojoba
oil, broccoli seed oil and thehealing essential oils, and it's
a great combination and itsmells really good.
One of my favorite successpatients that I use as a case
study was a 49-year-old womanthat had high TPO antibodies the
thyroid peroxidase antibodies.
(09:22):
She had Hashimoto's and hadsome swelling.
Her TPO antibodies were greaterthan 750.
So she was having some neckswelling, some fatigue, she had
some cold intolerance and shehad dry skin.
We started using the thyroidcastor oil pack nightly.
We also supported her thyroidwith selenium and NAC and did
some gut healing withorthobiotic, and in eight weeks
(09:47):
her TPO antibodies dropped by250 points.
She had no more neck swelling.
She had improved skin and bowelregularity, so that was a win.
Okay, you always want to makesure that you use a patch test
first.
If you have sensitive skin, youwant to use organic oil only.
You don't want to use dilutedor synthetic versions of castor
(10:07):
oil.
You do not want to use castoroil during pregnancy, especially
over the abdomen, because itcan induce some labor and you
have to expect increased bowelactivity, especially if you use
it on an empty stomach.
And just make sure you protectyour clothes.
That's why I love the Queen ofThrones products.
(10:27):
And you know binders.
I mentioned binders earlier.
They've been used for centuriesas well as a remedy for toxin
exposure and for manypractitioners.
Today, binders play animportant role in any
detoxification protocol and ithas a really important role in
protecting the gut lining.
Every single person that I haveon Vicon has either a binder
(10:50):
inside their protocol or it ison the side.
Anybody that has heavy metals Iusually put on heavy binders.
Anybody that we're detoxifyingfrom anything I put on heavy
binders, anybody that we'redetoxifying from anything I put
on a binder.
So while dietary fiber is acornerstone in daily
detoxification, z-binder is moretargeted and it's used to bind
(11:11):
and remove specific toxins fromthe GI tract for a thorough
detoxification protocol.
So Z-binder that I use fromOrthomolecular supports
elimination to reduce hepaticreabsorption, so things going
back into the liver to helprelieve toxic lewd.
So individuals with highlyreactive immune systems.
Z binder works to limit theeffects of die-off reactions and
(11:35):
it kind of sweeps away toxinsfrom the gut lining before they
can cause a severe reaction orimmune response.
So the mineral content inZ-Binder comes from the purest
sources from several geographicareas, from rich mineral
deposits in Eastern Europe tothe vast mountains of Central
Asia.
All ingredients in Z-Binderhave been thoroughly tested
(11:57):
under strict quality protocolsto make sure that it's pure and
it's potent tested under strictquality protocols to make sure
that it's pure and it's potent.
It also has G-Pure, which ispurified zeolite.
These are just some of theingredients that come in
Z-Binder, since it's one of myfavorites.
It is a purified zeolitemineral with a distinctive
affinity to ionically bind andabsorb heavy metals and unwanted
(12:21):
organisms.
So G-Pure has a highhomogeneity of clinoptilolite
matrix crystals, which isstandardized to contain 70%
clinoptilolite, which would havea cup shape, and it easily
entraps toxins for safeelimination.
So G-Pure is sourced from richmineral deposits and is
(12:43):
thoroughly tested for inorganicimpurities.
Z-binder also has activatedcharcoal, so it has a long
history of use in reducingharmful effects of a wide
variety of toxins.
Unlike charcoal from wood orpeat, the coconut shell,
charcoal in Z-Binder is highlypurified, dense, clean,
(13:04):
naturally dust free, making itsafe and a viable binder for
toxin removal, especially forunwanted organisms.
So it's carbon lattice is aporous structure and it's ideal
for trapping and removing avariety of toxins, preventing
absorption, your gut lining andsafely carrying the toxins bound
to its surface out of the body.
(13:25):
It also has the purifiedShilajit called PrimaV.
This has been very popular.
I've seen it a lot on socialmedia people talking about it,
but I've been using it for avery long time.
It's not new either.
So PrimaV is a highly purifiedform of shilajit.
(13:46):
It's diverse in many bioactivecompounds.
It has over 40 differentminerals, including a rich
source of fulvic acid, and thesetypes of organic acids have
absorbent properties that arebest known to bind various
agents, including many organiccompounds, and because of the
unique liposomal structure ofthe PrimaV, it encapsulates such
(14:08):
toxins and is really efficientin removing it from the body.
So after taking a Z-binder forfour weeks, what we typically
see is improved bowel regularityand in this 49-year-old it went
from twice a week to daily, which is great.
Reduced headaches, reduced skinbreakouts, significantly
(14:34):
reduced estrogen symptoms.
So this is PMS symptoms, breasttenderness, mood swings, all
reduced.
Her liver enzymes that were alittle elevated normalized and
within 10 days she had bettersleep and better energy.
So this is why combiningZ-Binder from Orthomolecular
(14:54):
with the castor oil packscreates a very powerful one-two
punch for detox.
So castor oil stimulates thedrainage and then the Z-binder
captures and escorts toxins outof the back door, also known
your bowel, so they don'trecirculate and wreak havoc.
There are other binders likesilica.
(15:15):
That's one of the reasons why Ilike Fiji water.
Silica can help support skincollagen and detox.
There's humic and fulvic acid, which is one of the most popular
ones that I add to the Vicon.
There's bentonite clay and thenaloe vera and glycine.
They all soothe the gut lining.
But these are all great to usewith your castor oil packs and
(15:38):
the main reason why I like tokind of combine the castor oil
packs with Z binder or with abinder is because castor oils
they stimulate toxin release butthey also don't trap or
eliminate those toxins directly.
So if you're releasing storedtoxins from the liver, the
(15:58):
gallbladder or the lymph and youdon't have binders on board,
they can recirculate in yourbloodstream and this can cause
headaches or fatigue, skinrashes, the Herxheimer reactions
, which is die off of thosemicroorganisms, hormone flares.
So you can have worsening PMSor estrogen symptoms because
you're releasing thosemetabolites right back into your
(16:20):
system and can cause somebloating or GI upset.
And this is where Z-Bindercomes in, because it sits in the
gut like a toxin magnet and itcaptures what is dumped from the
liver into the intestines andsafely removes it by that bowel
movement.
One of my most popular morningroutines would be you wake up.
(16:41):
You know you can take yourgrowth hormone peptide or you
can go and apply your castor oilliver pack, axolotl optional.
You sit with that for if you'restarting I would say 30 minutes
but you can go up to 45 to 60minutes.
You can read.
You can sit in the sauna.
You can put on a face maskAfter you take off your pack.
(17:03):
You want to take that Z binderstill on that empty stomach with
some water and then you want towait 30 to 60 minutes after
your Z-binder before eating ortaking any other supplements.
If you prefer in the evening, you can use your castor oil pack
to the liver or thyroid in theevening 45 to 60 minutes.
Some people will sleep in theircastor oil packs.
(17:25):
You want to remove the packwhen you're done, drink some
water.
You can take Z-Binder atbedtime but Z-Binder should be
two hours away from any food orany other supplements and that
is a sure way to have a greathealthy bowel movement in the
morning as well.
The other thing I like tocombine with my castor oil packs
are glutathione.
This is really to help pushtoxins because castor oil,
(17:49):
remember, helps to remove thedrainage Z-binder to trap them
and then you can combine it withglutathione to really push it
out.
So any protocol I use for moldor for heavy metal clearance or
estrogen dominance or histamineintolerance or any post-viral
recovery whether it be EBV orLyme's or any post-viral
recovery, whether it be EBV orLyme's it's just very helpful
(18:11):
with skin breakouts, brain fogand GI symptoms during cleansing
phases you want to make sureyou always stay hydrated.
Binders can be constipatingwithout enough water and one of
the most important things ismaking sure if you're taking
Z-Binder you want to avoidtaking it within two hours of
(18:32):
any medicine or any supplements.
You do want to pair it withdaily magnesium or motility
support, especially if you areprone to constipation and if
you're very sensitive.
You want to start with a lowerdose, so you can start with one
cap a day of a binder and workyourself up to two to three.
The main point to remember isthat castor oil packs mobilize
(18:52):
toxins.
The Z binder captures them, soyou can use them together to
support clean, efficient detoxand avoid the classic you know,
I feel worse before I feelbetter trap.
If you really want to optimizeyour regimen, you can use the
castor oil pack first, then takeyour glutathione.
It could be oral, thetransdermal, or it could be the
(19:16):
subcutaneous shot, it could be amuscle shot or we have it IV at
Harmony Hub Health, so thisreally primes circulation in
your lymph and use the castoroil packs consistently I would
say four to six days a week forthe best drainage.
Then combine it with yourbinders, like your Z binder or
(19:36):
GI detox or activated charcoalto catch what the glutathione
pushes out.
Drink plenty of water andsupport bile with bitters.
If you do have a hard time, Ido like to add
phosphatidylcholine.
That is a great combination aswell as you can see, I make a
lot of different protocols, andthen you can also stack it with
(19:58):
the infrared sauna.
You could even use a pump matfor added detox support.
I'm not a huge fan of coffeeenemas, but I am a fan of dry
brushing.
So if there are any signs ofstagnant lymph or toxin
recirculation then we can talkabout those after.
But I rarely, ever recommendthe coffee enema and when I do
(20:19):
that combination I tell peopleto think of glutathione as your
biochemical fire extinguisher.
Castor oil packs are the exitroute for the smoke.
You can't just neutralizetoxins, you have to move them
out.
So the combo is really good forchronic fatigue.
If you have skin eruptions withhistamine issues, you can
(20:40):
usually see it on the arms.
Hormone clearance, any mold, metal, mycotoxin detox, liver
inflammation, thyroid congestion, toxin detox, liver
inflammation, thyroid congestion, chronic fatigue, any type of
GI sluggishness than I would puton this types of regimen and I
personalized detox and hormonesupport protocols based on
(21:00):
genetics, based on symptoms andlab data.
So I like to use theseprotocols for MTHFR and COMT
variants, these protocols forMTHFR and COMT variants, anybody
with Hashimoto's and thyroiddysfunction, anybody with mold
(21:20):
illness and mycotoxin protocols,or anybody that is hormone
rebalancing that has GI motilityissues.
So definitely schedule aconsultation today if you want
to find out the best protocolfor you and if castor oil
therapy is right for you.
You can schedule a functionalmedicine consult.
You could see me in person atMonarch Beauty and Spa in
Manchester, maryland, or you cancome find me online at
wwwharmonyhubhealthcom.
(21:42):
I can walk you through bestplacement, best timing, how to
layer it with binders or saunaor peptides and make sure that
it's the right fit for what yourbody needs.
You could even send me an emailat michelle that's
M-I-C-H-E-L-E atharmonyhubhealthcom and I'd love
to get you started.
I also have a Facebook page onFacebook called Harmony Hub
(22:04):
Health.
I'll be posting affiliate linksto Queen of Thrones and Higher
Dose this week as we talk aboutthese castor oil packs, and this
podcast is for educationalpurposes only.
I'm not your personal medicalprovider Unless I am, then hello
and while castor oil packs arebasically the Swiss army knife
of detox tools, they're not amagical cure for everything.
(22:27):
If you are pregnant, trying tobecome pregnant, have a weird
rash, unexplained pain, or thinkcastor oil is a fun salad
dressing, please consult with ahealth provider first and do not
eat the castor oil In thiscontext.
Your colon will never forgiveyou.
Also, if you slather it on yourbody and your body says, nope,
listen to it.
(22:47):
Detox reactions are real, butso is common sense.
So proceed with intention aheat pack and maybe a towel
you're not emotionally attachedto.
