Monisha Porter.
A trailblazer whose heart forhumanity shines through her
leadership and workshopsalongside Pastor Donna Walker, a

(00:55):
visionary spiritual leader who'scalling to serve and empower
others has created a lastingimpact.
Both are living examples of whatit means to lead by service.
And by God creating powerfulripples of change within their
communities and around the worldthrough their Do More training.
I felt so called to bring on Dr.

(01:16):
Monisha Porter and Pastor Walkerbecause I have the privilege of
getting to host their upcomingincredible conference called
Bood Up with a Boo, focused onwomen, empowering women in
preparation for the next level, scheduled for October 25th here
in Tucson, Arizona.
I'm so honored to join forceswith these two women in which I

(01:38):
admire and I'm so inspired by.
So within this episode, you'llget to hear the backstory of how
the boot up with the boo conceptwas birthed, and the mission if
you've ever wondered how oneidea can spark a movement, how
women can rise and lead from aplace of service and divine
purpose, or you wanna getinvolved, come join, or help

(02:01):
spread the word.
This is your invitation.
All the information, details, and links will be in the show
notes.
Definitely be sure to checkthose out and invite anyone you
know.
Friends, I'm so excited to divein and tap into the wisdom, the
spirit, and unstoppable energyof these two powerhouse ladies,
let's get started.
Thank you both for being here.

(02:22):
Thank you for having us.
Yes, thank you.
So before we get into the fun Iwould love for each of you to
just share with this audiencewho you are, what you do, and
I'm gonna go ahead and startwith Dr.
Monisha Porter.
Well, hey, i'm affectionatelyknown as Dr.
Mo.
Pastor Donna actually nicknamedme, Reverend Mo, when she
licensed me and the mo just kindof, you know, now Dr.

(02:45):
Mo just kind of followed.
And, I'm a retired counselorfrom TUSD.
I am a reservist.
I've been in the military for 28years.
Currently serving on activeduty.
For three stars right now.
But I am preparing to retire woowoo.
At the end of this year.
And my personal mission is toreally empower girls and women

(03:07):
to walk in their full potential.
And one of my favorite things isI don't swipe at crowns because
I believe in lifting women upand not tearing them down.
I'm married and I have, fourkids.
I'm a boy mom, two boys and, andtwo bonus daughters and a
husband.
That's kind of like my fifthchild.
And that's me in a nutshell.
Thank you.
Love it.
And next we have Pastor DonnaWalker I actually am a retired,

(03:32):
civil servant, 30 years civilservice, and now working for the
district as well.
I am the CARES pastor at RisingStar Missionary Baptist Church.
And I also teach at, church onthe Street, which is a local
homeless shelter.
I have been there for 13 years.
I teach a 5:30 AM class, everyFriday morning, and people ask

(03:53):
me what I teach.
I take biblical studies and putin, into everyday living.
I i, also am an author.
I have two books out.
One book is called EncouragingWords.
They Matter.
It matters what you say.
It matters what you do.
And I have a, a children's bookout.
It's for it's for militarychildren that are moving.
My daughter had a hard time.
We were a military family aswell.

(04:13):
And so when she was movingaround, I wrote this book so we
could figure out what are somethings that are gonna happen.
The one that I wrote was aboutArizona, what, what you would
see in Arizona and all the funthings i'm excited to share with
this audience the conversationabout an exciting event.
That started off as more of anidea.

(04:35):
I wanna talk about how the booedup with the boo idea was
conceived this awesome boot upwith the boo concept.
So I teach at a homeless shelterand there was a young lady there
that was on track.
She was doing everything right.
She had a job, she was going on,and she comes to me one day, one

(04:56):
Friday morning and she says, pastor Donna.
She goes, I have to leave.
He loves me.
He loves me.
He had, she had been with thisguy that had been just a
knucklehead beating her up anddoing all kind of crazy stuff,
and she got away from him.
But then he came back and hesaid he loved her.
He loved her.
And so I, I begged her, I said, just stay one more week.
Stay one more week.

(05:16):
If you stayed one more week, Iwas positive that he'd do
something else.
And he came in and he was gruyand dirty and just, just
terrible.
She gets in the car, the car'sraggedy, it backfires.
And I remember saying, ah, she'sbooted up with the boo.
She's up with a boo.
Couple weeks after that, a younglady comes in my office and she

(05:38):
said that she always wanted towork in an office.
And she said, but she neverfinished high school.
And I asked her, I said, whydidn't you, why don't you go
back to school?
And she said, nobody told methat I could.
And I said, oh my God, she'sbooed up with a boo.
An idea in her mind.
And then I had one more.
I, I teach a, a Wednesday nightclass and it was a young lady

(05:59):
that came on and she said that,.
Her, baby daddy had hit her witha two by four, but she had to go
back.
She was gonna go back to himbecause, her friends told her
to, and because if she didn't,her baby wouldn't have a daddy.
And I told her, if you go back, your baby won't have a daddy or
a mommy.
And I got off of there and Isaid, she's booted up with a

(06:20):
boo.
And so one of my friends shesaid, girl, you gotta do
something with that.
You gotta do something withthat.
Because booted up with a boo isnot just a person, it's a
mindset.
I had a a person tell me onetime that she was heavy and her
husband said, well, you're toofat to even start working out.
I'm like, even if you just walkto the corner and come back,
booted up with a boo is amindset.
It could be a heart set, itcould be a person.

(06:43):
Anything that keeps you.
Stuck.
Anything that keeps you frombeing all that you can be.
Anything that keeps you frombeing your amazing self.
I'll just say this quickly,Monisha and I have a business
that's called Domo Training.
And what we do is we set upworkshops.
You, you give us an idea and wework, we do a workshops and
stuff like that.
So of course when we starttalking about this, then it

(07:03):
turned into boot up with theboot.
I love it.
Love it.
Do you wanna add anything, Dr.
Monja?
Porter?
Donna and I are so.
In tune with one another thatwhen the Lord gives her an idea,
or even me an idea, it's like,it just takes blossom.
It, it blossoms.
And so when she said it, we wereboth like, yeah, put up in the

(07:24):
book.
You know, we get excited aboutthe thing.
But, even though it's a veryserious subject, right, because
it's really for women of allages, and not only that, the,
the vision that Pastor Donnahas, and the thing that really
is important too, is not just toidentify those barriers, but
also bring resources to helpthem overcome those barriers.
So the people that are invitedto the conference are people

(07:47):
that are gonna give thosetidbits and we're talking about
a holistic person, right?
Mindbody spirit, we're, we'reworried about all of you because
with.
If any one of those is out ofsync, then it's very hard to get
up and move across that barrieror, or knock down that barrier,
or whatever it is.
You need to get beyond And sopastor Donna's vision is

(08:07):
amazing, and then the fact thatwe can just run with it is, is
even more amazing.
I mean, we have people that aregonna be coming about for
education.
We have a trainer that's gonnateach us how to get our body
fit, fit.
We have a doctor that's gonnatell us what kinds of things we
need to do for our health.
And we have some people thatwork in the mental health field
that are gonna come and, andtalk about that.

(08:29):
And we even have someone.
And this one I'm really excitedabout, it's called, it's new to
me.
Everybody can't afford to go toSax fifth Avenue and go and pick
up, an outfit or something.
But you can go to the, thesecondhand store.
We have a, young lady that youwould not know it.
But she dresses to the nine andeverything.
She has come comes from a thriftstore, a secondhand store.

(08:52):
So she's gonna work with us andshow us, when we get something,
it's new to us.
And so we're gonna, she's gonnashow us how to, style it and,
and make it just fancy if wehave to go to work, play,
whatever.
New to me.
Oh, well I love it so much.
Can you share the event'smission?
Boot up with a boo is literally, empowering women.

(09:14):
To overcome obstacles that arekeeping them from their full
potential.
Again, whether it be mind, body,or spirit.
And in that, bringing them theresources to help them overcome
barriers, to help educate them.
And it's also for women.
That want to help other womenmaybe grab those resources to
understand how to help anotherwoman, because you teach a man

(09:36):
to fish, man.
You know now he's gonna eatevery day.
If I just give you what you needtoday, that's it.
That's all you got is a meal.,So we also are interested in
women who want to come and getthose resources and understand
those same resources in order tohelp, uh, another woman.
So it, it's just, womenempowering women my tagline for

(09:56):
my entire life is You Matter.
Mm.
That, that I live by that.
And it's actually in my ownpersonal book, but one of the
stories I shared, I went and Idid a workshop at a homeless
shelter.
And there were two young ladiesthat asked me to be their
spiritual mentor.
And both had been prostitutesand a whole bunch of stuff had
happened in their lives, andthey were get, they were at the

(10:18):
end, the cusp of it to getting, getting it together.
And so they had, in order tograduate, they had to have, um,
a spiritual mentor.
So I used to write little notesand mail it to'em.
I loved earrings, so I wouldsend'em earrings and, and just
kind of encourage.
When they graduated, one gotout, finished.
College is actually in ministry.

(10:39):
She's doing well.
She got married, had a baby.
All things are grand in herlife.
And so I asked her, what madethe difference?
She said, PAs, Donna.
She said, I was in that room andI heard you say you matter.
You heard me say that.
Same same situation.
The other one went back to herboyfriend and he robbed a

(11:01):
pharmacy.
And because she was driving thecar, they both got life because
the pharmacist got killed.
I went to the jail to see herbefore she went off to prison,
the second person, and I askedher, I said, SIS, what happened?
She said, when she got out, somebody told her that she would
never, I get choked up everytime I say this, but she would

(11:23):
never do anything unless she wason her back.
She heard it and she became.
She went back, she was booted upwith a boot.
I didn't know that term at thetime.
Mm-hmm.
But that's exactly what she is,and it is my mission.
It is our Mission Domo trainingthat nobody ever gets stuck like

(11:44):
that again.
Does she matter?
She matters.
And can we say this too, becauseI think the title, sometimes
some people may not understandit.
It is not about romance.
It's not being, uh, cuddled upwith your boyfriend.
It's not bood up with your booper se, unless that is your boo.
As in that is not what God hasfor you and your purpose in

(12:05):
life.
That could be a relationship, afriendship.
Coworker.
It could be anything that'skeeping you from your purpose.
In this case, that young lady, the power of life and death is
in the tongue, and people don'trealize it sometimes, but it's
also why you're supposed to, towatch your ear gates, because
you're not supposed to take ineverything somebody says to you.
But we're not alwaysunderstanding of that, and

(12:27):
that's Pastor Donna.
And I just want women tounderstand who they truly are,
not what people say they are.
And that's, I think that'sreally the bottom line.
So if anyone listening right nowfeels like they're booted up
with a boo in all the waysdescribed, this is for you.
If you are a woman who lovesserving, empowering others, this

(12:47):
is for you.
Not only you.
But you're called to bring afriend, a family, right?
Yes, please do.
It's sisterhood, it's community.
I'm a preacher, so I'm gonna saythis.
It's Kingdom.
It's kingdom.
Yeah.
I love it.
It's kingdom.
Absolutely.
Yes.
Yes.
It's first and foremost.
Mm-hmm.
It's so beautiful and I'm justso honored to showcase this on

(13:11):
the podcast.
A and B, thank you for lettingme be part of it.
I get to host so all you outthere, you see me host in this
show, KOLD.
I get to host this incredibleevent and it's just the biggest
honor.
I, and I can't wait to meet youall.
I can't wait to see the success, and I think the fact that it's

(13:33):
free.
Is incredible.
Pistol, Pete's barbecue iscatering God.
So real food, we're going tohave clothing that you're going
to be able to choose from.
When we do, it's new to me.
We're gonna have actual clothes.
You can come and.
Stuff.
You can exchange stuff.
You can donate stuff if you wantto.
We're gonna have that.
If you wanna get signed up forschool, we are gonna have campus

(13:54):
edu there.
They can sign you up.
Uh, I think we're actually, um.
I know we're gonna have a, adoctor there that can tell you,
hey, about your pap smears andyour, your mammograms and all
that stuff, whatever is holdingyou back.
We plan to have somebody thereto help you.
And then of course, you know, Ihave to do my thing.
So we are gonna have some funwith that as well.

(14:14):
There's gonna be prizes and justa lot of fun, and I think people
are gonna walk away better thanthey can.
There's a, there is a small,small caveat though.
We only have 100 spots.
Ooh.
So y'all need to run out thereand, and get your spot register.
And we just put the flyer outand we're already up to 32.

(14:35):
So, once a hundred hits, youwon't be able to register
anymore, but we only have ahundred spots, so get up, come
on down so that we can hook youup and you don't have to be
booed up with that boo.
Yes.
No more booted up with the boo.
And whatever that weigh is foryou, we all know it deep inside.
I mean, honestly, I know thatI'm going to even benefit from
it because there's alwayssomething to work on.

(14:57):
New things always come as we'regrowing and evolving.
Now, most importantly, everyone, the date, you're probably
wondering, when is this?
It's free.
I know what I'm gonna get.
It's gonna be amazing.
October 25th from 9:00 AM to2:00 PM at the Morgan Event

2308 South Park, Tucson,Arizona.

down the show notes, click thelink and get in there.
Because if we're already at 31and it's more than a month away,
yeah, you don't wanna miss it.
It's gonna be amazing.
I'm just so excited.

(15:39):
Any other things that you wannamention about this event?
Anything else?
Signing up.
What are the best ways to, oh,we wanna make sure that you are
comfortable, please.
We want you to, dress, casualand comfy is the dress code.
Mm.
I love that.
We want people to relax'cause weactually are gonna have a
trainer, to come out from hergym.
I think she's actually bringingsome, some other trainers.

(16:00):
And it doesn't matter what yourlevel.
Physical activity is if you haveto sit in a chair, if you, man,
if you can run a marathon, goodfor you.
If you're like me, you get upand walk every day.
They're gonna have something foreverybody.
So we want you to be as comfy ascan be.
Ooh.
I love that.
I'm so glad you mentioned itbecause I was about to wear my
heels and a dress.
Uhuh.
No, no, no, no.
No heels but it doesn.
No heels allowed.

(16:21):
No heels allowed.
No heels on this one.
It's comfy.
Anything else you wanna add toit, doctor Winship order.
No, that's it.
I mean, come on.
Can't wait.
We can't, we're excited.
We're so excited.
You all.
Okay.
So per tradition with this show,I always like to close it up and
ask my amazing guest threequestions.
So I'm gonna go ahead and startwith Pastor Donna Walker.

(16:41):
Since I started with Monishaearlier, I'm gonna ask you the
first one.
What is your favorite book?
Okay.
So for me, it kind of depends onwhere I am.
Mm-hmm.
So right now my favorite book isThink You'll Be Happy, and it's
by n Nicole Evant.
And what it is, it's movingthrough grief with grit.
And gratitude.

(17:02):
She lost her mother and she istelling how she forgave, how she
moved and, and to still bethankful for the time that she
had.
And I love that because even intimes of darkness, God is still
there.
Even when times are hard, westill have to look for that
beacon light.
So that's where I am right now.
You think it, and you'll behappy.

(17:24):
Great recommendation.
And what about you, Dr.
Monisha Porter?
What's your favorite book?
So, Donna and I are so parallel.
We talk about it all the time.
Love it.
But my favorite book right now,and it, it's fitting because I
had that book, I put this bookaway years and years and brought
it back out.
But right now it's a, a letterto my daughter by Maya Angelou,

(17:46):
who never had a daughter, butshe talks about the same booze
from, you know, back.
Decades ago, decades, these sameboos are, were affecting her
life.
And those, those people aroundher and those lessons and it's a
little hard to read.
It's a hard read, but it's sofitting for this event that it

(18:06):
was like, wow, I can't evenbelieve I just, brought this out
and read this.
Right before it all came tofruition.
And I was like, that was, about.
Maybe October of last year.
And I was like, there's a reasonI read that book and I read it a
lot when I was younger, but, right now that I, it's so funny.
'cause right now I feel likethat's the one that God has put

(18:26):
on my heart and that because ifI named all, I don't have a
favorite book, I have several.
So you would just be like, youknow, it's time we gotta go.
That, that ends up being aquestion that everybody's like,
oh, I have so many.
Yeah.
But I love it.
And you both said, what was thebook you're reading right now?
And that's like, perfect.
All right.
Next question is gonna be,'causeI love affirmations, and I know

(18:47):
you both love the power of wordas well.
Pastor Donna Walker, what isyour favorite affirmation that
keeps you motivated, inspired?
Keeps that mindset so you're notbooted up with any boo mine is
you matter.
You matter.
Some people don't know that, butI want to tell the world, I
wanna tell the world that theymatter.

(19:08):
You matter.
And it's just a you and Imatter.
That is my, that is my handle.
You matter.
And so then they would say, Imatter.
I matter.
Remember that?
I love that they can hear.
They can hear me say that.
Mm.
Hear me say it.
And that's what's important.
'cause sometimes we hear a lotof stuff, but that's not what we
always hear.
And Dr.
Monisha Porter, What about you?

(19:29):
What's your favoriteaffirmation?
Say?
I am not a sufficient on myself.
Let me tell you why, becausethat doesn't sound like an
affirmation, but it is.
It reminds me that I don't haveto be, I can lean on God.
I'm a leader, so I'm a type Apersonality and I forget
sometimes that I don't have tocarry the weight.
So I have to remind myself thatI'm not sufficient, and it's out

(19:49):
of second Corinthians three,five.
It's part of that verse, but I'mnot sufficient.
I remind myself I don't have tobe because I'm made perfect in
him and he's there to help mecarry that burden.
So I am not sufficient works forme because it reminds me that I
don't have to be, because he isgonna meet me where I am every
single time, and he never.
Never fail.

(20:10):
Never.
Thank you for that.
What a relief too, right?
We need to remind ourselves.
Absolutely.
Thank you for that.
Oh my goodness.
And then the last question, pastor Donna Walker, what do you
wanna be known for your legacy?
I, and, and this, this is anhonest one.
If I can help somebody, I've hadpeople come up to me, sometimes

(20:31):
it have been in my workshops andit may be 200 people in the
workshop.
And if they walk up and they, pastor Donna, I remember you
told me this, you did it.
If somebody could just get upand say, you know, pastor God
help me.
She helped me along the way.
I was about to give up and shewas there.
So powerful.
And Dr.
Monisha Porter, what about you?

(20:53):
I think for me, is, like what Isaid earlier, I wanna be known
for lifting crowns, forstraightening crowns, it's one
of those things I just, want tobe remembered for, for being
uplifting.
