On today’s Hello Houston, we are broadcasting live from Houston's Comicpalooza, Texas’ largest pop culture festival, where we explore the many different activities and attractions available to pop culture fans this weekend.
In the first hour of the show, Ernie and Celeste talk with Maeve Aviary and Liam Norris, two cosplay pros and judges for the annual Comicpalooza cosplay contest this Saturday. Then, they speak with car enthusiast Koriey Dixon who discusses Itasha Showdown, a car show that’s themed with various pop culture fandoms, and Darrell Robinson who won "Fan Favorite" driver in 2024.
In the second hour, we hear from Dr. Stanford Carpenter, the Academic Liaison for Comicpalooza who discusses an event called Comicpalooza University, and Gil Muniz, Program Coordinator for the Department of Fashion Design at Houston Community College who discusses the event Comic Couture, which showcases one-of-a-kind fashion designs inspired by comic book and anime characters.
Plus, Bobby Ramos, co-founder of Ramos Renditions a long-time exhibitor at Comicpalooza, tells us about their artwork which includes everything from large murals to canvas works.
Also, as always, our hosts talk about the top stories of the day at the top of each hour, including two major Texas bills involving religion in public schools, former President Joe Biden’s appearance in Galveston for the Juneteenth celebration, and more.
