Um, we're excited because we'vegot one more for 2025 uh that
we're gonna record for you guysuh and get that out, and then

Christmas is crazy.
Um, I know me with the church,there's so much going on.
We got Christmas experience, wegot Christmas events, you got
stuff going on, travel, so we'lltake a little bit of a break and
then we'll roll it back uh in uhJanuary, probably about

So we've got one more left for2025.

I'm I'm excited to see whatthey're gonna do when we get to
you know 10 years since then.
Like kind of stuff goes on, butit's moving, it's moving quick,
but we're uh we're excited.
It is Thanksgiving week.

Uh, and we know that we've gotum a lot to be thankful for.
This is something we've done uheach season as we get to
Thanksgiving.
Just kind of roll out somedifferent things and one, how
you can relate it toward yourbusiness, uh, but also just kind
of talk through some of thethings you know we're grateful
for, uh kind of a fun episodejust to dive into some of that
stuff.
So uh we're excited to kind ofkind of break this down.

People don't really think of you know Thanksgiving.
By the way, consider this like aspecial edition of Thanksgiving
episode, as Adam mentioned.
Um, people don't really think ofThanksgiving of their business.
And so today we're gonna we'regonna kind of name this
Gratitude is a growth strategybecause it is, and here's what
we mean by that.
But but actually, before we getin, just a couple of

Thanksgiving.
We could never go without havingsome fun, as you mentioned,
Adam.
Um what what do you like better?
Pumpkin or pecan pie?
Either one pecan pie.
Pecan pecan pecan.
Pecan pie.
Oh, that's right.
In the south, it's pecan.
That's correct.
Especially if you're fromGeorgia.

Rather, so we're football, we're a sit-down
family at the at the house.
My mom tries to keep ittraditional.
Last year was the first time Iever convinced her for the love
of all of everything to quitusing the really fancy
silverware and plates forthings.
I'm like, mom, it's just us.
Let's do paper plates, let'smake this go faster.

No cleanup, let's clean up, brother.

Let's clean up.
Like this isn't this isn't somelike 17-course meal.
Let's let's make it simple.
I don't know anybody listening.

The simpler the better.
I want to eat and I want to sit.
So um, for me, Thanksgiving'sgreat because it's kind of like
that little bit of disconnectbefore summer turns or uh
Christmas turns in.

Um, I was talking to someneighbors the other day, and we
were just talking about theholidays, and I was like, you're
gonna think I'm a terribleperson and a terrible Christian,
but I hate Christmas and I hateEaster from a creative
standpoint because man, it isnonstop.

SPEAKER_02 (04:54):
Yeah, for sure.
I could have I I know I've seenyou in action.
It's it's it's a lot.
But for those, but I will saythis more importantly, for those
in the South, it is AlabamaAuburn hate week.
That that is it's coming upSaturday, the big game, Iron
Bowl, 6 30 kickoff.
So we know you're Bama.
We're Auburn.
We'll see what happens.

SPEAKER_00 (05:15):
By the way, leave it to Alabama to be in the worst
spot ever where they just lostthe or they just lost to
Oklahoma.
Playoff contentions are on theline, yeah.
And Auburn for the 17th time infour years has nothing left to
lose.

SPEAKER_02 (05:29):
Yeah, well we're fighting for a bowl of
eligibility, right?

SPEAKER_00 (05:31):
I mean, that's what that's essentially what's
happening.
Look, I'm kind of hoping theythey lose, so maybe we can do
the Birmingham Bowl again.
Yeah, there you go.
Maybe, maybe I mean we you know,we we do the Birmingham Bowl, we
get to honor a responder.
Um, our team out in Dallas getsto do the Frisco Bowl.
They honor, um, they honorthey're honoring a police
officer this year.
Yep.
Um we're honoring a firefighter.

So I'm you know, I'm like, man,they'd be love to have Auburn at
the game and to do some of thatphotos and things.

So big, big crowd.
But and and by the way, as Adammentioned, excuse me, thank you
to all our first responders outthere.
Um, gratitude.
We give it to you.
You guys 247-365 protect us,keep us safe.
Uh, you're there in time ofneed, uh, especially in those
times of need when people needare needed the most if they're
going through something traumatraumatic wise.

So thank you all for that.
But um, again, as as we getkicked off here, um, again, we
just like to have a little funwith you guys.
Think of think of gratitude as aleadership habit, okay?
Think of it that way.
What gets appreciated getsrepeated.
Now, Brady, he's not on theepisode, so we're gonna have
some fun, maybe, maybe withwithout him today, too.

Look, look, like I said, it'sall it's not gonna be all
business when like when Brady'shere.
Um so he he says this all thetime.
Uh, there's a quote from one ofI think it's John Maxwell, what
gets measured gets done.

Think of it this way (06:50):
gratitude.
What gets appreciated getsrepeated.
If your people will work, ifthey they will work for a
paycheck, but they will go aboveand beyond the for leaders who
see them for who they are.
So it's not just about just thepaycheck.
Owners, managers, think aboutthat.
We did an episode, um, I don'teven remember the number now,

several episodes ago about thefive growth, uh, five greatest
habits of a leader and fivegreatest coaching habits of a
leader.
And one of those is thank youremployees because they every
single day, the more you tellthem thank you, they may not be
getting that at home or for thatmatter at church or in their
local marketplace, wherever theymay be, help them, thank them.

That those things go a long waywith people.
I think you could probablyrelate to that too, Adam, that
you know, it it it it does, itdoes boost productivity and
retention in your people.
You know, we've had people tellus even at our office that look,
we love, we love when ourpaycheck every other Friday.
We love the fact that we get towork for an organization who has
a fantastic culture, but moreimportantly, we like our

leadership team who tells usthank you.

SPEAKER_00 (07:59):
Yeah.
Yeah, I think that's reallyimportant.
That's one of the things um thatI've really been appreciative of
uh being at the church.
Our church has a culture.
We we sat down um recently andkind of went through some of the
things we're good at, and thatwas what hospitality um was one
of the biggest things.
And we we don't feel like it'sjust for first-time guests.
We talk about it being for youknow our serve team.

(08:21):
We uh, and I know you guys arein the same position, but you
know, we're we're church aboutyou know somewhere between six
and seven hundred.
Oh my gosh, I did it, and Ishouldn't have thought waiting
on you to say it.

SPEAKER_02 (08:33):
I'm not doing it, I'm not doing it today.

SPEAKER_00 (08:35):
But uh let's see what I said it click.
But um somewhere around there,but we have a lot of people that
serve in multiple positions.
So um, like even my own team,um, you know, I have a lot of um
I have a lot of young adults,um, like one or two high school
kids, and then I got one or twoadults that help me from a media
standpoint, like capturingphotos, videos.

(08:55):
Um, but they serve in multipleplaces, and so we always want to
make sure we honor that andthank them.
I mean, we filmed um our end ofthe year video this week, um,
and my counterpart, our directorof worship and and um
broadcaster names Alex.
She and I did everythingtogether.
She recorded live, I did thevideo, but man, we there's just

no way we could have made thatwork without our without our
team.
Yeah and uh outside of likemyself, Pastor Meg and Alex, I
mean, all of it was served team.
And we had like we had like 12people there.
And so, you know, if it was juston the people that were doing
that, I mean, that that was abig thing for us.

(09:37):
And so we're just really big onmaking sure that we honor them
and thank them and you know,make sure we let them know, you
know, we we what's really coolas part of our budget every
month is we get to take peopleout to eat.
It's one of the things, or justwe have a food budget just to
say thank you.

SPEAKER_01 (09:50):
Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (09:51):
And it's just to do that.
Go spend time with your serveteam.
You know, I told each of them, Isaid, hey, I'm gonna take you
guys out.
We got to find some time, let'sget some coffee, let's get
something to eat.
And I just because I never wantthat, I never want those things
to go unnoticed or feel like,you know, they're doing it just
to do it, or you know, I'm I'musing someone to get what I
need.
We want to thank them becausethey're giving up time.

(10:12):
They're giving up, it was a youknow, the Monday evening.
Mm-hmm 80% of them havefamilies, they're giving that
up.
So we want to make sure that wewe do that.
And we try to do that everyyear.
We try to give like a Christmasgift, whether it's a shirt or
something like that to our serveteam.
You know, we do some differentthings, nothing huge, but just
enough to say, hey, you know, wewe appreciate it, you know.

(10:32):
Thank you for doing that.
So I think gratitude goes uh along way.
I think if you're somebody thatyou continue to not thank
someone or you just don't ever,you know, I I I'm not somebody
that you know, words ofaffirmation are something I I
have to have, but it just it'sgreat because it's like, okay,
I'm doing the right thing, I'mdoing the right job.
And sometimes you need that.
And I think even those can be abig part of gratitude.

SPEAKER_02 (10:55):
Yeah, that's that's a great point.
I mean, you you just you goabove and beyond sometimes, and
sometimes it doesn't even haveto be listeners, it doesn't have
to be a gift, it can be a simplethank you.
So we're gonna we're gonna dosomething right here, Adam,
called gratitude and action.
We're gonna put our money whereour mouth is.
All right, this is notcomfortable for you.
It will be very comfortable forme.
So we're gonna give this a goaround.

Like, we're seeing this contentyou're sharing from the church.
And I was like, I mean, it'sbecause you guys let me do it if
you hadn't let me learn.

So it's fantastic.
No, I appreciate you sayingthat.
I mean, and by the way, you andokay, I know we're in a speed

So look, for those employees, you tell your you
tell a supervisor or a leader inyour life, a mentor in your life
how much they mean to you, likewhat you've done for them.
That just fuels me to want tokeep doing it.
So we're gonna talk about thathere in a minute.
But one last one a moment youalmost missed, but you're glad
you didn't.
Oh man, I don't that one that'shard to do.

I don't miss moments.
Actually, oh hey, speed speedaround right there.
So we're our point, our pointhere is to everyone take a
moment, use it with your team.
It can be simple things likethis.
You can make up your own.
But the point of this is thisgratitude doesn't slow down the
business, it just fuels it.
So the more that you can canthink of people that come to

mind in your organization thatyou are thankful for and what
they've meant to you, teammates,leaders, mentors, whatever the
case is, again, I just talkedabout it.
It fuels, it it wants, it wantsto make you do it more.
I will never forget before thatbook that I that I read, the uh
five coaching habits of a greatleader.
Man, I when when I read numberfive about thanking people, it

hit me right in the gut becauseI was not good at doing that at
all.
And I remember I was like, Ihave to change the narrative.
Is it gonna be awkward to tellsomeone thank you?
Like, thank you, Adam, for whatyou do.
It it it sometimes it can be alittle awkward, but the more you
do it, the more it fuels you andit fuels the people around you.
So that that is don't take thatfor granted.

Again, it does not matter whatbusiness structure you're in.
Okay.
So here's just a little bit of achallenge for you guys out
there, Thanksgiving.
I know some of you might not bewatching this on Thanksgiving
Day when the Detroit Lions orthe Dallas Cowboys are about to
play their their big footballgame every week.
But take a moment, okay,sometime this week, and write

this, write this down.
We're gonna give you a littlefun uh leadership challenge,
okay?
Write or maybe use your phone,you know, take a voice message
and write three thank you notesthis week.
Someone to your team, onesomeone on your team, one to a
peer, and check this out one toa customer or a vendor.

(14:35):
Because most people don't dothat, me included.
I'm challenging myself with thisthis week.
Okay.
So if you tell our customers,think about this, Adam, they
tell us thank you.
How?
One of your favorite things inthe world.
How do they tell us thank you?
You did a great job.
Huh?

SPEAKER_00 (14:50):
Oh, well, I was gonna say, well, sure they pay
you, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (14:53):
But what's the what's the thing people look at
nowadays when they're going tolook for another service?

SPEAKER_00 (14:57):
I mean, any when I see somebody share our content
stuff, and um I what I and I andyou don't have to do this, I'm
just throwing this out there forpeople that are posting.
But when they tag tag me orsomething like that, I always
love there's no to me, you don'teven have to tell me thank you.
Nothing means more to me thanwhen you post a photo and you
have that little cred that itwas taken by such and such

person.
There's to me as a creative, um,because that's my that's a big
not only that, uh, two twothings happen with that.
You are sharing to your audiencewho did this.
One, you put it on your profilein a place that's gonna stay,
which these days that's that's aportfolio's.
Yeah.
And two, by tagging me, you'reletting people know, hey, you

should trust this person aswell.
Um so nothing means more to me.
And then not sticking, um, andthen not putting filters over
the photos that I work on.

Yeah.
Oh gosh, yeah.
Yeah.

Little, you mean the little uh glossy, starry look on
top, maybe.
Emily's best friend Jayna knowsthat she doesn't get pictures
anymore.
I get sent to her husband.

You made that mistake one time.

But think about this from a customer's perspective,
they're always giving us Googlereviews too, right?
They're writing us a five-starwhatever.
Yeah.
Well, how how cool would it befor us to send them something?
Thank you for choosing ourcompany.
Thank you for visiting ourchurch.
Thank you for coming to ourstore.
People don't do that a lot.
So here's the idea behind this.

(16:22):
The best leaders aren't justthankful, they're noticeably
thankful.
They do things a little bitdifferent.
I the great Nick Saban of alltime, we know it's Alabama
Auburn hate week, we we do, butthe greatest leader in coaching
of all time, he says, you know,you've got it figured out when
ordinary people do thingsextraordinary.

(16:44):
They do the little things thattake you above everybody else.

SPEAKER_00 (16:48):
And you know, I I'm gonna throw this out there
because maybe somebody'slistening to create it because
I'm not smart enough to createit.
But my buddy Matt Powers, hetalks about how often we get
reviews from customers.
It'd be great.
And now he was saying it for theopposite because they get if
they get negative ones, but howmuch cool would it be if we
could rate customers as well?
So you're like people coulddecide, like, hey, do I want to

(17:10):
work with this person?
But when you have a greatcustomer, yeah, you could do the
same thing, right?
You could say, hey, this personwas great to work with, they
communicated.
Hey, even in times where maybelike we had some issues, they
were so understanding, uh, youknow, they really worked with
us.
But he he talked about that alot when we work out in the
morning.
He's like, I need somebody tocreate is kind of like the Uber
model, right?
Like, yeah, for sure.

(17:31):
You rate the driver and you ratethe rider.
So it's like, hey, if I don'thave a good enough rating as a
rider, then I can't rideanymore.
Well, you know, but hey, andit's not a bad idea.
It's not a bad idea.
I'm just saying, how cool wouldit be to be able to thank um on
the flip side for those of us incustomer service, and we do have
that customer that's tough towork with, and they leave us a

negative view.
But on the other side, we getmore of this than the other
because our team does such agreat job.
But it would just be kind ofcool sometimes to be able to
like on Google, like rate yourinterview, your person that's
leaving your view.
Hey, the you know, the Thompsonswere great to work with, they
had an issue in their home.
You know, they were alwaysavailable.
We needed to call, they let usin their home, they did

(18:15):
everything.
So total, total side note.
But you're talking about that,it'd just be cool sometimes to
be able to, you know, thank ourcustomers like they thank us.

SPEAKER_02 (18:22):
Yeah, and note to self Matt Powers, if you're uh
thinking that, you better startdoing something about it now
because I'll never forget it wasprobably 10 or 12 years ago.
I was like, man, how cool wouldit be to take your debit card or
credit card and swipe it in thesoda soda machine, like the Coke
machine, we call it the Cokemachine.
Is like, how cool would it be todo that?
Nobody carries cash or you knowcoins anymore.

(18:43):
And I'll be dang like two yearslater, they came out with it.
I was like, I'm well, I'm surethis thing's been in patent mode
for years, but Matt, you betterget on that because I'm telling
you, somebody's gonna do it, andyou can make a lot of money
doing it.

SPEAKER_00 (18:53):
Do it.
So I need so that's the reasonI'm throwing it out there, is
I'm not smart enough to figureit out.
I need somebody to.

SPEAKER_02 (18:58):
Yeah, for sure.
And and maybe it's an AI, maybeit's an AI feature, Matt.

Something somewhere.

So think about this.
Don't think of gratitude as justduring different seasons.
A lot of people a lot of peoplerelate Thanksgiving to being
thankful, and we should, but itshould be a 12-month 365 thing.

SPEAKER_00 (19:15):
It needs to be, it needs to be year-round.
I think it it's kind of like Ijoke about with um with
Valentine's Day.
I was like, I don't need one daya year.
Yeah, I need to show my wife Ilove her year-round.
Yep.
Same thing with this.
I need to be able to show myteam that um and and and do
those things.
I and that's something again,just to continue to brag on some
of the folks that with us at thechurch.
I mean, like even Pastor Caleband Pastor Ashley for our kids,

(19:38):
our student ministry.
Man, if we have like a longweekend, I'm like, I'm staffed,
and they still send me a thankyou card.
Yeah, like I'm sitting threefeet from him, and especially
right now because our church isunder construction, so there's
six of us in one room.
But I still and then here's thething he doesn't hand it to me,
he doesn't do anything, it showsup in the mail.
And so I'm like, so it's justfunny because he's literally

(19:59):
sitting enough where I can turnand talk to him, but I'll still
get something in the mail fromhim and Ashley saying, Hey, you
didn't have to come film allweekend, you didn't have to do
that, or any really big event.
They do that, and that's reallyacross the board.
So I sometimes too, thosehandwritten notes uh go such a
long way.
Pastor Summer, our kids pastor,um, Emily gets notes several
times a year and just says, Hey,thank you for serving in kids.

(20:22):
I mean, and here's the thing,like you said, Benji, there's I
mean, yeah, sometimes it's greatthey give like a you know, they
give a Starbucks card, hey, havesome coffee on us.
We know it's tiring.
And then other times they theydon't at all.
There's other times where it'sjust a card saying thank you.

SPEAKER_02 (20:37):
For sure.
No, it's great because it'sdon't don't make it seasonal,
make it strategic year-round.
It has to be, gratitude has tobe a year-round thing into your
build it into your culture,right?
You you just talked about it.
Maybe your team has dailyhuddles, and maybe that, maybe
one of your pastors didn't wantto actually hand it to you.
They wanted to mail it to you.
That's extraordinary.

(20:57):
He could just hand it to you,but in that daily huddle, maybe
it's a performance review you'redoing with an employee, or
create feedback loops, right?
Let let people in yourorganization tell you how
thankful they are and why, orthere's some things that may
need to be worked on in yourbusiness.
So think that take that for whatit's worth.
It has to be modeled from thetop.

(21:18):
Our leadership sets the tone toeverything that we do.
Don't get complacent.
We've talked about that.
If you want to build a gratefulteam, we as leaders have to go
first.
We cannot wait because whathappens is we get in the mindset
of just doing the same thingsover and over and over.
Routines are great, don't get mewrong, but the bad routines are

the ones that set up for notsuccess.
So you've got to go first as aleader, and that's important to
you and your team.
Um, just as we hey, look, again,this is a this is a shorter
episode because we know it'sThanksgiving.
You're about to get around thetable.
