The job market just flipped, and AI is leading the charge.

Today's Breaking Job News headlines are about new data revealing how generative AI has transitioned from pilot projects to everyday practice. A new Wharton study reveals 82% of leaders now use AI weekly and nearly half use it daily, with most seeing measurable ROI. Budgets are shifting rapidly toward in-house R&D and Chief AI Officers as companies rush to capitalize on the benefits of automation.

But the story doesn’t stop with the C-suite. The AI boom is spawning brand-new job titles, such as AI Conversation Designer, Human-AI Collaboration Lead, and Knowledge Architect. Big names like Walmart, Salesforce, and KPMG are already hiring for these roles, proving that the future of work isn’t coming; it’s here. If you’re early in your career, this is your cue to get fluent in AI tools and learn how to build workflows where human creativity and machine intelligence amplify each other.

And if you’re job hunting right now, there’s another surge to watch: seasonal hiring. Monster’s latest data shows holiday job searches tripled from September to October, with significant demand in retail, logistics, and customer service. We’ll show you where the openings are, how to stand out, and how temporary gigs can turn into long-term opportunities.

Pete Newsome (00:00):
Happy Halloween and Happy Friday, everyone.
Today's job market storiesinclude new careers driven by AI
and who's hiring for seasonalwork.
But first, it's official AI inthe workplace has transitioned
from pilot programs to becominga daily practice.
And not only that, companiesare seeing a positive return on
their investments.
This is according to theWharton School's third annual

(00:21):
report on how companies areusing generative AI.
The survey of U.S.
enterprise leaders found that82% use Gen AI at least weekly,
which is up from 72% a year ago,and nearly half, 46%, use it
every day.
The data shows companies aren'tjust experimenting anymore, but
instead they're measuring realreturns.

(00:42):
72% say they're now trackingROI, and about three in four
already see positive results.
Think about that.
What a stark difference fromthe widely quoted MIT study that
showed only 5% of companieshave seen a positive ROI from
AI.
So you have to wonder, is thisjust evolution and improvement
that we're seeing rapidlyhappening right before our eyes?

(01:05):
Or is it just inconsistent datadepending on who was surveyed?
It's impossible to know forsure, but I have no doubt that
we're going to see many, manystudies of this nature in the
months ahead, and ultimately itwill play out.
But to me, this is moreconsistent with what I've
witnessed firsthand, what I'veheard from other leaders, is

(01:25):
that they are seeing benefits.
So I believe this data for nowit makes a lot of sense.
But also, 88% of the companysurveyed said that they're
planning to increase their AIbudgets next year.
So this is not a trend, this isnot something that's going to
fade away, it's only picking upspeed.
And almost a third of the moneythat's going to be spent will
go towards internal RD.

(01:47):
And the leadership commitmentis also on the rise.
Chief AI officer roles nowexist in 60% of enterprises.
That was a surprise to me.
I haven't heard that phrase toooften yet, but 60%, I mean,
that is a telling number forsure.
So if you're someone still onthe side that believes AI is not

(02:08):
here to stay, I don't know whatto tell you at this point.
All the signs that I seeindicate that the AI momentum is
just gaining speed andtraction, and it's all happening
in a way that we've neverexperienced before.
Now, if you're wondering whatall the recent enterprise AI
investment means for workers, the good news is it's not just
about job loss.
The Washington Post published astory giving an entirely

(02:31):
different answer.
They have a list of new jobtitles that have been created.
So we're talking about roleslike AI conversation designer,
knowledge architect, human AIcollaboration lead.
We know there's a big need forthat, and orchestration
engineer.
And big names like Walmart,Salesforce, Workday, KPMG,

(02:51):
they're the ones leading thecharge, posting positions that
didn't even exist two years ago.
And LinkedIn's data backs thatup.
20% of professionals now havejob titles that didn't exist in
2000.
Think about that for a second.
There's so much change thathappens.
And yes, it's scary, but in thenot too distant past, 25 years

(03:11):
ago, I guess that's relative, doesn't seem as distant for me.
20% of the job titles thatpeople are in now didn't even
exist.
And look, I've seen that in myown career too, where the people
I went to school with, myclosest group of friends from
college, almost all of them arein roles that didn't even exist
as a vision or a possibilitywhen we were coming out of

(03:32):
school.
So there is hope out there, even though we're surrounded by
a lot of gloom right now.
And what's new here is therapidity of the AI evolution.
And that's what is definitelysomething that we have to deal
with right now.
So look, there's real cause forconcern over job displacement,
no question about that.
But it's just a matter of timebefore a lot of new

(03:54):
opportunities are being createdtoo, and that's only going to
increase.
So if you are early in yourcareer, the best thing you can
do is embrace AI.
Understand how it can be usedin your profession or
organization if you're anemployee, and make sure that you
stay ahead of the curve.
If you want to see the fulllist of uh the titles in this
article, check it out.

(04:14):
Uh, there's 16 of them, andthey list those along with job
descriptions.
Pretty interesting.
And finally, for today, I talka lot about the future of work,
but here's something for theimmediate present.
The holiday hiring rush hasstarted, and according to
Monster's 2025 Seasonal HiringIndex, job searches for seasonal
roles have tripled fromSeptember to October.

(04:34):
Employers are aggressivelyhiring right now across retail,
logistics, customer service, andaccounting.
The top jobs are taxaccountant, customer service
representative, beautyconsultant.
I had to stop and think aboutthat one for a second, but then
I realized that's very popularat department stores, delivery
driver, warehouse worker, andretail sales associate.
The top companies hiringinclude Intuit, Macy's, UPS,

(04:58):
Walgreens, Ulta, Beauty, FedEx,Walmart, and Burlington.
And Monster points out thatseasonal jobs aren't just about
making quick cash, they're oftena gateway to permanent work.
And as a staffing companyowner, I can attest to that.
Many employers use theseseasonal roles to acquire
long-term talent.
And I see it generally happentwo ways.
One is planned attrition, wherecompanies know that they're

(05:21):
going to need permanentemployees on the other side of
the seasonal hiring, and theywill actively focus on finding
the best employees during thatseasonal job.
And if you are in that position, the best thing you could do is
try to be the person who's gonnastand out.
Because the other way that Isee hiring happen is when

(05:41):
employees, even though they'reintended to uh only say for a
short-term contract, if you'regood enough, the company will
find a job for you.
I have hundreds of stories thatwe've witnessed firsthand over
the years of people we've placedin a contract role, a temporary
role, a short-term role, aseasonal one, whatever you want

(06:02):
to call it, where they stand outand our client, the employer,
says we have to figure out howto uh retain this person
somehow.
So they won't necessarily tellyou that's a possibility going
in because they don't want toset you know unrealistic
expectations, but employers willdo that and it happens more
than most people probablyrealize.

(06:23):
So for job seekers, this isyour moment to make a great
impression, take advantage ofit, and by January, it's a very
good chance you may findyourself in a full-time role.
So those are the headlinestoday.
But before you go outtrick-or-treating, here's your
fun fact along the lines ofseasonal employment.
Did you know that Americansspend more than $12 billion on
Halloween each year?
And that Halloween retailhiring spikes nearly 20% higher

(06:46):
than average seasonal jobgrowth.
According to NRF data, costumestores, candy companies, and
logistics firms all addthousands of temporary jobs in
October just to keep up with thefrightful demand.
On that note, I'll see myselfout.
Thanks again for listening.

interested.

(07:06):
And as always, I welcome yourfeedback.
Have a happy Halloween.
