Andrew shares a key tip to help athletes to be powerful and explosive on gameday: relax and stay loose. Once all the training and preparation work has been done, switch gears to focus on giving your body the best chance to execute what you have practiced in training. Excessive stiffness, tension, and tightness takes away from our power production and performance. This can be influenced by many factors such as physical tension, nerves, and mental or emotional stressors. The contributing factors may be different for everyone but figure out how you can prepare your body for game day to be as relaxed and loose as possible.
Practice strategies that work for you and carry that over to your preparation for games and performances. Remember that excessive tension and tightness affects our sequencing, timing, precision, and overall performance in sports. Give your body the best chance to perform optimally when it counts. Believe it or not, this takes effort and practice as well. Remember to relax and stay loose! Enjoy the episode!
