Today's episode is another installment of Home Base Nation: Veteran Stories with Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Monica "Mo" Southall. Mo participated in Home Base's Intensive Care Program (ICP) in January 2022. Mo is an athlete and adaptive sports athlete, having competed multiple times in the Invictus Games, and competed and coached in the Department of Defense Warrior Games. Mo was gravely injured in 2009 while on deployment, and speaks openly about how finding her way into adaptive sports saved her life. In this conversation, Mo and Ron talk about her time in the Army and her love of service, into the world of adaptive sports,  what it was like to be a gay woman during the time of Don't Ask Don't Tell, what led her to Home Base, and why she feels it is so important to talk about mental health care and struggles, and why it is okay to ask for help.
