Speaker 1 (00:00):
this is day three of
the consistency project and I
can't believe it.
I am just here because it's theconsistency project, honestly,
that's why I'm here.
This is actually an experimentthat I'm doing consistency soup.
You're probably like what?
The is that?
(00:20):
What are you talking about?
Now, dr sean?
Like what?
What is consistency soup?
Consistency soup is somethingthat we're creating right now.
That's what this wholeexperiment is about is to see
what it takes to really beconsistent.
Now, if you're a consistentperson and you're a person who
is disciplined and you don'tprocrastinate, drop the secrets
(00:42):
in the comments, please, becausewondering minds want to know.
Really.
Consistency seems so simple theword.
It seems simple, but inactuality, it's one of the
hardest skills that you'll everattempt is to do something
consistently.
Now, sometimes bad habits canbe done consistently.
(01:03):
Bad habits can be done on aregular basis and as a dentist,
I'm always going to use likeflossing.
People get into a bad habit ofconsistently not flossing, which
is going to consistently harmyour body in multiple ways.
But when it comes to, like yourcareer, your goals for yourself
, no matter what age you are,you know, when it comes to
(01:26):
having a positive mindset andgrowing mentally, physically and
spiritually on a daily basis.
Consistency has to be the soupthat you've eaten, because if
you eating soup full ofprocrastination, soup full of um
, sadness, and days where you'rewaking up and you just don't
(01:47):
give it your all, that's likesome other type of soup.
We want consistency soup, sothat's what we are trying to
build.
So I'm using my experience froma lifetime of being from the
hood, a lifetime of alwayshaving less, a lifetime of being
underserved and always being ina position where you got to go
(02:08):
10 times harder than otherpeople one because of poverty,
two because of lack of parents, three because the color of my
skin and four because I'm afemale.
Now, everybody has differentthings that hold them back on
why they can't be consistent, orexcuses.
I will say Because when you area consistent person or you want
(02:31):
to have that skill under yourbelt, you just show up for
whatever the task that you putbefore you, whatever goal that
you set for yourself.
So if you join me on thisconsistency journey, you may not
have started on day one with me, right, but you can start where
you are.
The moral of the story is to doit every day.
(02:52):
Or if you say I want to beconsistent.
Five times a week, doing thislike working out.
This is what we're building.
This is a skill we are buildingRight.
So a part of that consistencysoup is showing up for yourself.
This is me showing up formyself, because I know that I
(03:12):
might have zero people in theaudience.
I know that it seems delusionalto get on here and just hold a
conversation and just talk whenyou don't have a form of
communication, but the thingabout it is, when you want to do
some consistently part of thatsoup, it has to be a little
delusional in that soup.
It has to be a littledelusionalness in that soup,
(03:36):
especially if you set a goalthat isn't so easy.
Like if you do something easy, like I want to be consistent
with waking up in the morning,we gonna do that.
Naturally, that's not reallywhat we talking about.
We want to set something thatyou've been longing and yearning
to do, something that is like adesire, a goal, a dream, and do
(03:57):
it, do what it takes to make ithappen.
Like why do we, as people, waitand let everything stop us from
being our greatest, leteverything stop us from being
that chosen one that we weredesigned to be since we were
born.
Okay, so that's whatconsistency soup is all about.
(04:18):
You're going to have to pour alittle bit of the Lulu seasoning
in that thing, right?
What other things would you putin your consistency soup?
I'm going to say, you want toput a little bit of show up-ness
in there.
That's what I want in myconsistency soup A little bit of
the Lulu Sprinkle, a little bitof show up-ness.
(04:42):
We're just making this up as wego.
Okay, we're writing this down.
Get you a pen, get you a paper.
What is going to be in yourconsistency soup?
So in my consistency soup we'regoing to have a little bit of
delusional delusion on this.
We're going to call it the lulu.
We're going to have a littlebit of show up this.
(05:06):
What else are we going to havein here?
Because we want to make thissoup where it's simple but the
taste is just dynamic.
The taste is like oh, I can'teven put my finger on what you
put in there, but I like it.
I'm feeling that.
I love it.
Another thing that we're gonnaput in our consistency soup is
(05:26):
being unapologetic, and I usethat word a lot because I just
love that word unapologetic.
We're gonna put someunapologeticness in our soup.
What else are we gonna put inour soup?
Some passion in our soup.
Oh, you gotta have passion.
You gotta have some passion inyour consistency soup period.
(05:49):
And I'm gonna put one morething so that we don't over
complicate this soup, so it'seasy for anybody to go and remix
this recipe.
Make this soup your own.
What are you putting in yourconsistency soup today?
All right, the last thing Iwant to put in my consistency
soup is and this might not soundlike it belong in the soup, but
(06:11):
I'm going to put in some I'mgoing to sprinkle in some
gratitude, because when you showup for yourself baby steps,
show some gratitude.
When those results start tocome in slowly, don't feel
defeated, because sometimes wedon't appreciate the small
(06:32):
growth.
We want to see the big numbers,we want to see the big growth,
but show some gratitude just foryou showing up.
Now.
Our admin I know how to saythis word at mcdala in your
brain and it has a reward andpunishment system.
So the more you do things thatare rewarding, your mind knows
(06:54):
and it releases positivehormones that make you feel
better every day.
When you check off somethingthat you've done, that you set a
goal for, your body learns andadapts to this and it makes you
feel better every single day.
So that's what my consistencysoup is.
So today, I challenge you guysto get a piece of paper, just
(07:17):
like I did.
You can put however manynumbers you want, whatever you
want, whatever recipe you wantto create today.
Let's see whatever recipe youwant to create today for your
consistency soup and write itdown.
(07:38):
This is a recipe, baby.
Like what?
Consistency soup as a bonus.
This is a secret ingredient tothe soup.
Now, because this is your soup.
You, you can have any secretingredients you want.
There's a secret ingredientthat we want to add in our soup.
What you think the secretingredient is.
(07:59):
The secret ingredient to theconsistency soup is creativity.
Creativity, because one thingabout being consistent, you're
going to have to, some days, getcreative about how you show up,
as long as you show up for thetask.
Some days you will have tofight through some lows.
Some days you'll be on too busy.
Some days you're gonna havesome high.
(08:20):
You got a balance and fightthrough the mindset that says
you know what, I'm going to skipthis day, because that won't be
consistency.
And this is something that I'mreally trying to test with
myself because I'm not asconsistent as I would like to be
.
I would say I'm probably 60percent and that's pretty bad.
(08:42):
But when you have so manythings on your plate and you're
being pulled in every direction, especially as a dental practice
owner, I'm being pulled inevery direction, from like
marketing to communication, tostaffing, to hr, to billing, to
insurance things we're going outof network but insurance things
(09:04):
and like CEs and the legalstuff it's just so many parts
that just pull you all types ofplaces, especially as a new
business entrepreneur and dentalpractice owner.
So many things that can pullyou in every direction.
So you have to balance and beconsistent with something
(09:26):
Everything.
You can't be consistent witheverything.
There's not enough time in aday and if you want to be
successful, consistency is goingto be a skill that is required.
Now, like I said, bad habits wedon't want to be consistent
with those, but the things thatare great habits are often some
of the hardest things to do.
(09:47):
If it were easy, guess whatEverybody would do it.
If it was easy, all right, andnothing easy is worth having a
lot of the times.
So make sure your consistencysoup is making a soup that
tastes really dynamic, it has alot of flavor, it can be easily
replicated.
(10:07):
If you give this to a friendwho needs some help with
consistency and make sure thatyou put your heart into it, you
know, and it's okay to not beperfect with your consistency.
That's why we are talking aboutthis.
Like I said, I'm a dentist, Ihave a lot going on and you can
(10:28):
find your way into theexcuseville and we want to stay
away from excuseville, noexcuses.
So my suit again has, I'm goingto say, one cup of
delusionalist, one cup of delulu, one cup of delulu, a half a
cup of show upness, a half a cupof unapologeticness, one cup of
(10:53):
passion, one cup of gratitude, and like a dash or a sprinkle of
my secret ingredient, which iscreativity.
Um, period, creativity.
(11:14):
So creativity is like havingconsistency, but also having
that childlike or kidlike mindthat is unafraid to just like be
you like, let it go like.
Just do you stop getting inyour own head.
I talk to so many people whoget in their own head and I'm
guilty too, because anything I'msaying is definitely like I
said, this is an experiment.
(11:35):
That is for me, but it's alsofor our community as we grow.
It's also for anybody who wantsto join in on this whole little
thing that I'm doing.
That just came out of nowhere, where I just need this.
Some of us need this, like thismight be the one key thing that
you're missing is just showingthe up.
(11:55):
You think you need hair makeupcamera.
What you really need is to showthe up.
That's why we making this souptonight.
This is a little cooking class,a little cooking class on your
skill set, just to check in andmake sure that we are starting
off on the right foot.
(12:15):
I would be interested to knowwhat is in your consistency suit
.
I might pose that question on myTwitter right now.
Yeah, let's do it right now.
And even if you watch thereplay, or you hear this on the
podcast, the Hood to Hoodedpodcast, when I chop this down,
or if you watch this on theYouTube replay, I want you to go
(12:36):
to my twitter.
My twitter name is at dr sean wd r s h o n w and we're gonna
put the question what is in yourhashtag?
Consistency soup one cup ofdelulu.
(12:59):
Y'all know what delulu is.
I mean, you gotta be a littledelusional.
When I wanted to be a dentist,I had to be a little delusional.
Coming out of the hood, youknow, without having a roadmap,
guidance, money, sometimes, sometimes nowhere to sleep,
sickness.
I had to be a little delusionalto sometimes work two and three
(13:20):
jobs, y'all my story go deep.
It go a little deeper than that, but that's what I got a book
for.
That's what I got a book forand my book working on that too.
You got to be a little littleto do these type of things.
This book that I have over here.
I wrote this book during mytransition from Meharry Medical
College through my residency atBrooklyn Hospital Center,
(13:44):
through when I first started myfirst associate jobs, because I
was so like the Lulu.
I'm like, okay, I'm thisdentist, I'm working, but where
the money at?
I thought this was going to bea little different because I'm
still like struggling a littlebit as a doctor.
That's what I was thinking.
So I'm like I gotta get morethan one stream of income.
(14:05):
And I started that journeydoing like day trading, just
learning about different sourcesof income.
And then this book when mystory went viral on facebook, I
started writing this bookbecause I'm like, wow, people
really are interested in thestory to know how a child whose
mother passed when they wereeight years old, who they didn't
(14:26):
even live with, raised bygrandmothers with custody
battles, father you know, havinga substance abuse issue not in
the household, not a part of mylife during those critical
younger years, how you became adoctor, how you got through
dental school, like what.
So people really becameintrigued with that story.
(14:46):
So that's why I started thehood to the podcast.
That's why I want to help people, help myself and grow every
single day and be the lulu aboutit.
Show up, even if you're theonly person in the room, guys,
remember that.
One cup of passion, one cup ofgratitude, because you gotta
(15:08):
have some gratitude in your life, like even on your bad days.
Just show gratitude for justwaking up and having an
opportunity to be who you are, because you're so dope.
Let me, if nobody told you thattoday you're so dope, you're so
lit, period, like what?
Tell me, stop playing with you.
One, I mean half a cup ofunapologeticness, a half a cup
(15:32):
of show upness, show upness, baby, I know I just made that up
.
And secret ingredients.
We cannot forget our secretingredient, guys.
A dash of creativity, because alittle creativity can go a long
way.
You know how they say themustard seed size faith.
(15:55):
That's kind of like you need amustard seed size of creativity.
So a dash of creativity andboom.
This is consistency soup.
Alright,
