What does it really take to move from struggle to success? In my raw and unfiltered reflection on approaching the final year of my 30s, I open up about the unexpected challenges of navigating professional life while carrying the weight of my "hood" background. Despite earning my dental degree at 30, the following decade brought homelessness, financial hardship during residency, and the constant battle to break free from limiting mindsets that no credentials could automatically fix.

Day 4 of my year-long "Consistency Project" dives deep into what it means to show up for yourself when nobody's watching. I share my personal recipe for what I call "consistency soup" – equal parts delusional self-belief, gratitude for opportunities, creative problem-solving, and the discipline to appear even on the hardest days. This special blend creates the foundation for transformation that degrees and external validation simply cannot provide.

The neurological rewards of consistency become evident as I explain how showing up daily creates positive reinforcement in your brain, making each subsequent day slightly easier. "Nothing feels worse than dropping the ball on yourself," I emphasize, highlighting how this personal accountability becomes the true driver of lasting change. For anyone navigating challenging transitions, developing multiple income streams, continuous learning, and focusing on personal development aren't just suggestions – they're essential survival tools when conventional support systems aren't available.

Whether you're facing your own struggles or simply need motivation to remain consistent, this transparent look at professional growth from disadvantaged beginnings offers both practical wisdom and emotional understanding. Follow along with my 365-day journey of showing up "rain, sleet or snow," and discover how the small act of daily consistency can gradually transform your life's trajectory. What consistency project will you commit to today?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Just grow and show up .
I want to just keep growing, whatever I do in life, just keep
growing.
And that can be a little tough.
I really think that one ofthese days I want to talk about
being 39.
So I can give you young folkssome advice about your 30s being

(00:26):
in your 30s.
As a professional, as a doctoral, I graduated dental school when
I was 30 years old.
The year that I turned 30 wasthe year I graduated dental
school.
My 30s has been all.
Post-dental school Like NewYork has been my last 10 years.
Dental school like new york hasbeen my last 10 years living in

(00:49):
new york, being a florida girl, learning how to be a new yorker
.
And new york is just soexpensive.
It's totally different from anyother place, but just living in
new york totally different.
So my experience here in my 30shas been rough.
One day we'll talk abouthomelessness and sleeping in the
car and while being in aresidency program and being

(01:13):
broke and sick, and we'll talkabout all that.
But honestly, that's in my bookbut it doesn't hurt to just
talk about it sometimes.
Those were some tough days.
That man 30s has been rough forme.
Yes, as a doctor it has beentruly rough, because I think

(01:35):
people forget that the hood partis what makes it really hard.
That's what really makes ithard to be disciplined and
consistent.
And I felt like what I feellike going through my 30s and
being the last year in my 30s isthe perfect time to do a
consistency project and it's aperfect time to reflect on

(01:56):
everything, because I feel likeit just has been so tough for me
and that hooded shit, or thehood shit, I really feel like it
follows you everywhere untilyou actually break out of that
mindset, break out of itcompletely.
No amount of degrees can do it,no amount of other people can

(02:16):
do it, no amount of money can doit.
It just has to be a mindsetshift.
It really has to be a mindsetshift.
Money definitely helps with alot of things, but it can also
create problems.
So in my 30s I feel like it wasa mindset shift, but we're not
going to talk about that tonight.
I just wanted to hit on thatreally quickly.

(02:39):
So you guys know that thishood-to-hood journey for me is
really real.
I don't just say that I, Ireally mean that.
I know a lot of people look atme like, oh, this goody
two-shoes silver spoon dentistand I just be like where y'all
get that from?
What do you get it from?
That's why I go so hard.

(02:59):
Now I'm still trying to breakout of this hood.
I'm still trying to do itBecause you got to think, when
it comes to familial support onthis journey, I mean, oh, I'm so
proud, are great, that's great, but it just takes so much more.

(03:21):
And if you don't have that somuch more, you're going to
struggle.
You're going to struggle, butone thing you can't do is quit.
You can't quit.
You heard me guys.
You heard me gang, gang.
You're gonna struggle, you'regonna struggle, but you can't
quit, you cannot quit.
So that's why having multiplestreams of income, just trying

(03:43):
all the things that you want todo, being unapologetic and just
soaking up everything around you, learning, being creative,
researching things that work, getting into your bag,
developing your mind, focusingon self-help topics all of that
is so crucial in your 30s.
And I'm still talking aboutabout being in 30s.

(04:04):
But you know, I just had totouch on that because it hit me
a little bit Like ooh, my lastyear being in my 30s and it's on
to a whole new decade and Iwant to remember this.
I want to be a part ofspreading motivation and
positive energy and good vibesto the world.
I want to be a part of that.

(04:24):
I world.
I want to be a part of that.
I really do want to be a partof that.
So this is how you do it.
You know, at the beginning ofthese videos, we talked about
showing up when you're the onlyperson in the room.
Day four is a reflection ofthat.
I am doing this live as theonly person in the room.
And then this is where you geta little bit of that consistency
soup.
Where you got a little bit ofthat consistency soup.

(04:45):
Where you got a little bit ofdelusionalness.
You got a little bit ofgratitude Because you just
showed up.
You got a little bit ofcreativity.
You got a little bit of showupness.
You have this recipe Forconsistency suit that you're
using to get you through thosedays where it's quiet.

(05:05):
It's crickets, but you know, ifyou in the room, hey, we are
our own biggest fan.
Guys, remember that.
To be your own biggest fan, stay inspired to love yourself
and be unapologetic.
One thing I didn't want to dowas to let the day go by and not
show up, because that means Iwould fail in this experiment,

(05:27):
like literally, even if nobodyelse in the world knows that I
failed the experiment, I willknow, dang, I didn't show up
yesterday and it's just gonnafeel so bad when you drop the
ball on yourself like nothing isworse than dropping the ball on
yourself.
Can you imagine that you'retrying to do something and then
you drop the ball on yourselfevery day?

(05:48):
Nah, I ain't trying to be apart of that game.
I'm trying to be a part of thegame that show up for myself
every day, regardless, regardless, you know, shoulders,
back, head, head, high crown onconfidence, on deck, proud,

(06:11):
beaming with positive energy, beaming with motivation and
unapologeticness, beaming withthat show up in the spirit,
beaming with a sense of peaceand pride in who you are.
Showing up for yourself everyday.
Look at you glowing, look atyou using your consistency soup
recipe, just glowing, and justlook at you.

(06:33):
Yeah, okay, so on that note, gang, gang, gang.
I'll leave y'all with that.
We showing up baby, rain, sleetor snow.
We showing up Sunny or wet.

(06:54):
We showing up Down and out.
We showing up, like I was inthat bed laying down, I said I
got to show up, I got to get outof this bed.
I got to show up.
And when I show up, I got toget out of this bed.
I got to show up and when Ishow up I feel better.
The reward and punishment system.
If I would not show up tonight,I would feel bad and that would

(07:14):
be like a punishment in mybrain.
But the fact that I showed uptonight, that's like serotonin
and dopamine being released likeoh yes, it's like you checked
out something that you want todo.
In your brain it's like yes, soguess what?
Each day is going to be alittle bit easier to show up, do

(07:36):
y'all agree or no, it's gonnabe easier.
So my so far, my hypothesis isworking.
It's a slow growth, but it'sworking and we have a whole 361
days left in this consistencyproject.
Have a good night, my beautifulgang, my beautiful tribe.

(07:57):
Have a wonderful, positive, motivating, inspired night,
being consistent, brushing yourteeth and flossing your teeth so
the bed bugs don't bite.
Make sure you go and stream mynew song.
Shut the fuck up.
It's my birthday.
Make sure you follow thereplays on youtube.
And, yeah, we turning up everyday because dr sean is what all
the way.
Live dr sean is all the waylive.

(08:17):
Dr sean is all the way live.
Dr sean is all the way live.
We all the way light, we allthe way light this ay.
We all the way light Ay.
We all the way light, all theway light Ay.
We.
