Dr. Shon reveals her groundbreaking "Consistency Project" – a daily experiment testing whether she can show up on Twitch for 365 consecutive days to build a global community of motivated dreamers. This raw, energetic stream dives deep into the struggle many of us face with consistency, especially those coming from underserved communities where self-help concepts aren't readily taught.

Drawing inspiration from Brian Tracy's "Eat That Frog," Dr. Shon breaks down why action is the essential ingredient for success and how developing positive habits through decision, discipline, and determination can transform your life. The conversation explores the power of writing down clear goals – a practice only 3% of adults maintain despite being 5-10 times more likely to achieve success when they do.

What makes this stream particularly powerful is Dr. Shon's authentic perspective on elevating from "Hood to Hooded." Beyond the academic achievement this phrase literally represents in her life, she shares how it symbolizes a mental shift available to anyone seeking growth. With refreshing honesty, she acknowledges that even with multiple degrees, consistency remains her greatest challenge.

The most compelling moments come when Dr. Shon speaks directly to young people contemplating giving up on their dreams. Her passionate reminder that "life is too tough already for us to give up at any age" serves as both warning and inspiration. Through personal stories of battling depression while establishing her dental practice, she demonstrates that showing up for yourself daily – even when you're the only one watching – is how true transformation begins.

Ready to start your own consistency project? Join Dr. Shon daily on Twitch or catch highlights on her Hood2Hooded podcast. What goal have you been avoiding that deserves your commitment today?

live.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
So welcome back to the broadcast.
This is Dr Sean TV.
Dr Cheetah's Sunflower backwith another live and baby, baby
.
We are on day five.
One, two, three, four, five, drShawn's consistency project.
You're probably like what isthat?
If you don't know what that is,because I only started it five

(00:38):
days ago, so you probably don'tknow.
So I'm here to let you know.
At the beginning of this projectI decided to do Saturdays as a
multi stream to multipleplatforms, versus just to twitch
.
All the other days I am liveexclusively on twitch.
So make sure you click thatlink and follow me on twitch.

(00:58):
If you are not, and if youcan't sign up for twitch or if
it's too much, you don't feellike doing all that, you can
catch the replays with all ofthe highlights of these live
videos on my podcast, Hood toHooded, which is on all digital
platforms, especially Spotify.
So I just had to let y'all knowthat little information to

(01:20):
start.
But today is day five of theConsistency Project project.
Yes, shout out to me forshowing up.
If you don't know what theconsistency project is, it's
something that I started fivedays ago and it's an it's.
It's an experiment to test myconsistency, to see if I can be

(01:43):
consistent on Twitch and show upevery day for 365 days for at
least one hour, that I can builda global community that is
positive, motivated toaccomplish their goals and
pursue their dreamsunapologetically.
That has increased oral health, intelligence and that's just

(02:07):
fucking lit.
Period Lit.
That is my goal Just to connectwith people from around the
world, be my true, authenticself, not holding nothing back,
and just to share who I am andjust to share positivity to
everyone.
I realize that the one thingthat I lack on a lot is

(02:28):
consistency.
And despite how many degreesyou have, despite how much
information you have, despiteyou are your age, if you don't
have consistency, a lot ofthings can be out of whack for
you.
You know what I mean.
So that's when I decided tostart the Consistency Project.
I love streaming.
I love being a dentist too, butI love going live.

(02:52):
Even in dental school I waslive.
Even at my dental schoolgraduation I was live, if you
know, you know.
So I was live.
I crossed the stage.
I had to put my camera downthen, but I should have took it
with me, but I just always lovestreaming.
Somewhere down the line I kindof trickled off and lost the
consistency, and dentistry justtook over my whole entire life,

(03:13):
and sometimes I stream, but nowI want to do it consistently and
truly build my audience, because I'll build an audience,
get burnt out by work, disappearfor a couple weeks or months or
then disappear off of socialmedia.
So I want to change that andreally connect and build a
global audience.
That's my goal.
So this consistency project isme showing up every day for one

(03:36):
hour a day on Twitch, though OnSaturdays I do come on other
platforms.
I decided that we would doreviews of books that I think
can help us grow, especially ifyou're like me.
You want to do the consistencyproject.
That means that you pick onegoal that you really have been
avoiding or procrastinating withand commit to doing it for 165

(03:59):
days every day.
It could be a workout goal.
It could be flossing your teeth, because you always push the
floss for the teeth as theeasiest goal to do that people
don't want to do because it'sonly two minutes out of your 24
hours a day.
But you ain't got to do that.
But you do an easy goal likethat.
But if you really havesomething that has been heavy on
your heart to do and you justbeen procrastinating, now is the

(04:23):
time for you to jump onto theconsistency project 365 days.
I started five days ago.
I've been consistent, showingup every day for my audience,
which has been me for most ofthe time.
It's just been me.
But this is what hood to hood itis about.
This is what starting from thebottom is about.
It's about showing up even whenyou're the only person in the

(04:45):
room.
You gotta feel yourself likethat before other people feel
you, before other people can.
It's your greatness.
You gotta feel that greatnessfrom inside so they can see it.
If you don't feel it, theycan't see it on the inside and
you cannot fake it.
So you gotta believe it, feelit.
Wake up every day, super litperiod.
You gotta wake up every day, solit and everything that you do.

(05:08):
Don't hold nothing back.
Be unapologetic, don't letnobody judge you, don't let
nobody trick you out your spot.
Just be on top of your game.
Yesterday we went over a book Iread called still like artists.
This book right here aboutenhancing your creativity and
how to be your true, authenticself, but also just learning

(05:31):
from other people and staying inenvironments that cater to the
greatness in you and that wakeup that creative person that
lives in you and that allows youto just do things and be more
and put out nothing butwonderful things into the
environment, into the world, into the internet.
You know, just talks aboutbeing creative and not letting

(05:53):
anything hold you back.
So that was a good book.
I read this yesterday and oneday.
So easy read, right here, stilllike an artist, easy read, and
we talked about that yesterday,so we ain't gonna talk about
that again today.
So I'm gonna take this downtoday, I started reading this
book eat that frog by briantracy.
Now, brian tracy is one of thebest self-help gurus.

(06:18):
I started listening to his likepodcasts and videos on youtube
while I was in dental school, like towards the end, because I
realized that self-help issomething that we lack in the
hood.
It's something that we lack inunderserved communities, because
we don't even know that we needit.
I hear I was in dental schoolabout to be done and still
lacking the self-help.

(06:39):
That is even more prevalent ifyou don't grow up with your
parents in the home.
You know, my grandparents weremy primary caregivers and they
was working.
They weren't thinking aboutteaching me, about reading a
book, like.
They got to feed you, clotheyou like, do stuff like that.
It's stressful.
This is not in the hood, they're not telling you this.

(07:01):
So I didn't realize thatself-help was an area that I
truly lacked until I got in myearly 30s.
Okay, eat that frog.
We're not gonna go deep intothis book, but I just want to
give you a little mental soulfood for tonight.
It's talking about how youachieve success, and you cannot
have success without one keyword, which which is action.

(07:24):
Action is the breeding groundfor you to be successful in
anything that you do.
So you want to be selectivewith your task and tackle the
major tasks first.
This is called being actionoriented or action orientation,
he says.
And you want to avoid a failureto execute.

(07:46):
Many of us procrastinate.
We say we're going to starttomorrow.
We say we're going to start, you know, the next day, because
we just don't feel like doing ittoday.
We get into a habit of failingto execute the things that we
want and we don't take action.
Yes, we can motivate you, yes,we can inspire you, but if you
don't take action, then yourgoals will be inhibited.

(08:09):
And a habit is something thatyou do, automatic and easy.
So habits can be positive orthey can be negative towards
your life.
I don't want to get into badhabits.
We want to keep our habitspositive.
We want to make sure that we'recompleting tasks with
enthusiasm, energy, and this isgoing to boost our self-esteem
and release endorphins anytimeyou complete a task that you've

(08:33):
been avoiding or procrastinatingabout.
That can really enhance yourlife.
It's going to make you morepersonable, more creative and
confident.
That's like flossing every day.
If you floss every day, likethe people who floss every day,
they come into the dentist'soffice confident, like they just
know they're super lit.
They just know this becausethey complete this task every
single day.

(08:53):
And that's just a small task.
Imagine those things that youcould do that you've been
avoiding, that you could dotoday, but you always push it
off, such as working out.
I'm guilty of working out.
I'm guilty of that.
I'm guilty of avoiding theworkout.
That's one habit that I reallyneed to develop, which is why
I'm practicing consistency, showing up for a whole year.

(09:13):
I think I can do it.
Anytime you put your mind tosomething, you can do it.
So you want to create positiveaddiction to positive habits.
This will help you releaseendorphins.
Now, in this book, he mentionedthis little funny story about a
man that is in New York City andhe stops this musician in New

(09:34):
York City and he asked themusician how do you get to
Carnegie Hall?
And the man replied practice, man, practice.
Basically, that's saying, thekey to mastering any skill is to
practice, just like dentistry.
In order to get better atdentistry, we practice.
That's why it's called a dentalpractice.
Even if you go and specialize, you're still always, for the

(09:57):
life of being a dentist, you'repracticing this means you have
to always work on your skill, learn new things and don't get
stale.
I feel like so many people, especially coming from the hood,
so many people get stale andthey get stuck on that one
little part.
That's why it's called hood tohooded, because we want to go to
a different mindset.

(10:17):
We want to elevate our mindsetpast, you know, just this basic
level, because there's so muchmore we can know and grow and
learn and be.
Then goes on to talk about thethree D's of habit formation.
Now y'all know well youprobably don't know if you
haven't been listening to thepodcast but my formula is
consistency plus discipline, minus procrastination equals a

(10:42):
glow up or a flow.
That's my formula, the CDPformula.
He says there are three Ds inhabit formation, that is, a
decision, discipline anddetermination.
So anytime you make a decision, you want to make sure that you
make a decision that's gettingyou closer to your goals and to
make this a habit.

(11:03):
Then he says you want tovisualize success, to accelerate
progress toward becoming highlyproductive, effective and
efficient.
So thinking continuously aboutthe rewards and benefit of being
action oriented, fast movingand focused.
So that's just like me creatingthis consistency project.
I know it sounds the lulu, butit's something that I really

(11:24):
want to do.
I love streaming.
Like, how many times am I goingto say I love streaming but
sometimes fear not knowing whatto say, feeling like there's
going to be no one in the room, learning how to just be
comfortable with that andgetting your message out and
showing up every day.
That's all you have to do isjust show the up every single

(11:46):
day, and that's the beginning ofthis book.
It's talking about buildingthat picture of yourself.
How do you see yourself?
Is there something that youcould enhance or get better at
right?
How do you see yourself?
The first chapter of this bookthat was like the intro book, so
it goes on to talk aboutsetting the table.

(12:06):
How do you set the table toavoid procrastination and to be
better at knocking out yourtasks and your goals and your
dreams and everything that youwant in life?
We all need to have some typeof goals for family, for
business, personal goals, healthgoals, just having goals.
The issue is I'm just speakingcoming from the hood the issue

(12:28):
is, when you don't have goals orclear goals, you go throughout
life aimlessly or just doingwhatever comes your way, or
settling and living with regretand not feeling like doing what
you want to do in life or livingyour best life so set the table
for yourself, set the standard,he says, have clarity, clear

(12:51):
goals and objectives withoutdeviating.
So that's why this consistencyproject is so important to me.
Of course, it helps to build,to show up I mean to the
audience, but I want to prove itto myself, because this is
something that I lack.
This is something that I knowthat I like and this is
something I would prefer to getbetter at.

(13:12):
I want to show up every day,but what happens when you have a
bad day?
Set the table, be clear aboutyour goals without deviating
from that.
Procrastination, it says, iscaused by vagueness, confusion
and being fuzzy minded, likeunwritten goals.
I'll tell y'all this story whenI wanted to become a dentist

(13:34):
and get into dental school.
The one tool that I use is whathe's talking about in this book
is having clarity.
He says think on paper.
Only three percent, only adults, have clear written goals.
Are you one of those adults whohas clear written goals?
Are you one of those people whoknows what they want, thinks

(13:55):
about the future, doesn't playwith their time, don't waste
their time on foolishness?
Are you one of those people whohave clear written goals?
Nine times out of ten, ifyou're pursuing something great,
your business, some type ofdegree for me, dentistry, a
doctoral degree.
You got to write it down.
You.
There's no way you're gonna getinto a doctoral program and you

(14:17):
don't write your goals down, sothat's a secret.
If you are a procrastinator, which I have fallen into the
habit of a little bit, it'sbecause I'm not writing my stuff
down as much.
So I'm getting refreshed, refreshing my brain.
That's why dentistry is apractice.
Everything that you do you gotto practice right.
Clear, written goals.

(14:37):
So people who have clearwritten goals are five to 10
times more likely to accomplishtheir goals.
I wanted to get into dentalschool and become a doctor and
pursue this difficult programwhere only less than less than
one percent of people make it in.
Those goals have to be writtenclearly, with clarity.

(14:58):
Baby, every semester I had agoal of a 4.0.
I never got it.
At Florida State University Inever touched that 4.0 every
semester.
But imagine if I hadn't hadthat goal and just went in
blindly, not knowing what Ineeded.
Because I had that goal, atleast I landed somewhere around
there, but not there, you know.
But prevent me from becoming adentist.

(15:19):
It didn't prevent me frombecoming hood to hooded.
It didn't stop that because Ihad clarity about what I wanted.
Then he goes into the last partof this chapter and if you want
to join me on reading this book, you can get it from Amazon for
a couple bucks.
It's always good to refresh yourbrain on ways to inhibit

(15:40):
procrastination, becauseprocrastination serves no one.
The seven part method is numberone decide exactly what you
want.
Think about that.
What do you want today, tonight, I want to accomplish my goal
of completing the 365 dayconsistency project by showing
up one hour every day on twitch, regardless, unapologetically,

(16:04):
unapologetically, no days off.
I can do it.
I believe in myself.
Like that.
You gotta have that delulubelief in yourself.
Like that.
You got to have that delusionalbelief in yourself, like that.
Number two write it down.
If it's not tangible, it's justa wish, it's a fantasy.
Do you know people who justwalk around and they want this
and they want that, but theynever write it down?
Then it's just like somethingyou wishing for.

(16:25):
You're not really serious aboutit because you can't even see
it.
You can't even really bring itto life because you can't even
take a couple minutes to writeit down.
Number three set a deadline.
A deadline creates urgency.
We all have a natural tendencyto procrastinate, regardless.
All of us procrastinate aboutsomething.

(16:47):
Number four make a list ofeverything you can think of that
you are going to have to do toachieve your goal.
This give you a visual, visualpicture of the larger task at
hand and increase yourlikelihood of completing it.
So make a list of it all thethings you have to do to
complete your goal.
Number five organize that.
Listen to a plan, priority andsequence more effective than

(17:08):
carrying gold around in yourmind.
Make a list and then takeaction immediately.
Do something anything today.
In that chapter, I feel like wegot a lot of jewels.
We got a lot of informationthat we can lead off and work on
and just continue to be greatand at who we are.
Consistency is that one skill?

(17:31):
It seems so, but it's one ofthe hardest things for people to
do.
I see it every day withsomething such as flossing.
It's one of the hardest thingsfor patients to just do every
day, even if I say, hey, you'rebrushing your teeth every day.
Just brush and floss together.
It's rocket science.
People will sit on a socialmedia application and stroll for

(17:55):
six hours and your phone tellyou your watch time or your
screen time now.
So we will stroll for six hoursand we need our teeth 100 well,
not 100 years from now.
We need our teeth 20, 30 yearsfrom now.
We we need to dedicate thatlittle couple minutes to them.
But even a habit like thatcauses us to procrastinate,

(18:17):
right or not?
It definitely causes us toprocrastinate.
So we got to show up forourself every single day.
Go up for ourself every singleday.
So this is just me showing up,guys, I'm definitely towards my
goals, like I'm a gold digger,as they say, g-o-a-l A gold
digger.
I always have been a golddigger, unapologetically a gold

(18:41):
digger.
You know, life is so short.
Life is too short to be bottledup or not your authentic self
or just setting time pass andwasting time.
That's why I'm reading thatbook, because I don't want to
get into the habit ofprocrastinating or being
undisciplined or not takingaction on my goals in dental

(19:01):
school.
You don't have a choice whenyou're working your way up to
dental school.
You just have that burningpassion, that desire to just
keep going, and you up lateweekends, nights.
Dental school is so crazy and Iwant to just keep that passion
and that burning desire to begreat and to show up for myself.

(19:21):
I don't want life to weigh medown or make me feel defeated in
no type of capacity.
Last year I was in a wholedifferent space.
Last year battling depression, battling feeling inadequate or
all those feelings not reallyknowing who I was.
Last year I was battling a lot, having a new practice and so

(19:43):
many things going on in theworld that impact your practice
and just thinking that you'releaving an associate to be a
practice owner and it's just alot more work than you can even
imagine.
So sometimes that can burn youout.
That can burn you out.
Then I started learning aboutAmerican history and being

(20:05):
indigenous and I've just beengrowing immensely this past year
.
So now my spirit is so happy, Ifeel so alive.
I don't feel anything but awill to continue growing and
spreading positivity around theworld.
That's why I show up for anhour every day on twitch now,

(20:26):
unapologetically, period.
I have a lot to say, especiallyabout coming from the hood.
I came from poverty, guys.
I can't make this any moreplain.
I came from poverty and just toknow and hear some of the
things I hear today aboutunderserved youth in poverty,
about what's going on, how theyquitting on their dreams, how

(20:49):
they just giving up left andright.
It disturbed me, I mean.
So that's why I say you knowwhat?
I have a voice.
I need to continue to use it.
I need to continue using myvoice, especially to put out
inspiration and let people know, even if it's hard, you can
still make it.
But you need the determinationnow you, you need, you need

(21:12):
determination.
You need a lot to make it outof the hood.
It ain't easy and I want peopleto know it's not easy coming
from nothing trying to make itinto something and going through
school programs and thecompetitiveness and the money,
and you have relationships goingon and you have a lot going on
to make it out of the struggle.

(21:33):
So it's not easy.
I definitely know this for afact.
Regardless if it's easy or not,you still can make it.
You got to make it up in yourmind that you want to get from
here to here.
You want to elevate, you wantto go from here to here.
It's a mental decision and ifyou never make that mental
decision or that switch, youwill count yourself out.

(21:56):
It's all a mental game withinyourself.
It's a challenge withinyourself.
That's why this 365 dayconsistency project for me is an
experiment that I have to proveto myself.
Can I show up every single dayfor something?
And if I can't, why?
Why do I have this weakness?

(22:17):
What is preventing me fromshowing up for myself, being
great, and it doesn't have to bethis goal.
You can have any goal and justtest yourself Can I show up for
me or will I quit?
Will I fall intoprocrastination?
Will I be undisciplined?
Will I lack determination?
Will I make excuses?
Because you know we stay out ofexcuse view when we trying to

(22:39):
go from hood to hooded.
And when I say hooded, yeah,I'm talking about hooded, like
with the cap and gown, but I'malso talking about a hooded
state of mind that anybody canhave a hooded state of mind.
Being hooded state of mind, that anybody can have a hooded
state of mind, being hooded isabout having wisdom.
It's about having knowledge.
It's about seeking knowledge.
It's about waking up every day, knowing that you are
wonderfully made, knowing thatyou the shit use my french.

(23:03):
It's about waking up every dayand being you.
It's about waking up every dayand looking at those challenges,
looking at the issues you haveand trying to work on it.
For me, consistency is an issue.
It is an issue for me.
I feel like, even if I haveassociate degree, bachelor's

(23:23):
degree, master, all this stuff,if I'm not consistent, if I
don't take action, if I don'tcontinue to grow, I will be
obsolete, and we don't want tobe obsolete.
We don't want to countourselves out, we want to count
ourselves in every single day.
If you want to make it fromhood to hooded, you got to count
yourself in every single day.

(23:45):
Yes, you will fall.
Yes, you might not have all thethings that you need the bells
and whistles to start and dowhat you need to do, but use
what you have.
When I started this stream, I'mlike a perfectionist.
That's just dentists.
Dentists are perfectionists.
We like to make teeth straight.
We like to do as perfect as wepossibly can.
That's why it's always thepractice.

(24:07):
We always have to practice forthe life of our career.
It's never okay you're aperfect dentist, now you got.
You just do dentistry.
No, you always practicing.
Any person who doing dentistrycan always grow and learn or
have to start from zero if youdon't grow and learn.
So we always practicing.
So that's how we want to beevery day, waking up with the

(24:30):
drive to know how lit we are,how amazing we are and how we
just can't quit on ourselves.
You got to fake it before youmake it.
You got to continue to fake itbefore you make it.
You got to continue to practiceit before you make it show up
for yourself.
So on day one, when I said I'mgonna show up, I showed up.
I didn't even feel good thatday, but I showed up.
And when you show up, thoseendorphins get released.

(24:53):
You feel so proud of yourselffor accomplishing whatever goal
you set for yourself.
You feel so much better.
You won't have everything youneed on day one, and that's okay
.
That's why it's called hood tohood it, because when you come
from the hood or you come from, when I say hood, this can be
just like where you're startingat okay, versus the goal that

(25:16):
you set for yourself.
So it's just a metaphor too.
It really means I came from thehood and became hooded.
But it could also mean this iswhere I'm starting at and this
is how far I made it, to anelevated state of mind, and
that's what we want today.
I want to just really make surey'all realize that you can
start with nothing.

(25:37):
Whatever your goal is, you canstart from scratch.
Pen, paper, pen and a paper.
All right, pen and a paper.
The first 10 years of being adentist is pretty tricky.
It really is.
It's a tricky process having adental practice.
Sometimes it can be stressful, but this is what showing up for

(25:57):
yourself means when it'sstressful, you just still show
up, you, you still try to do it.
I know a lot of people, a lot ofyouth, who just giving up on
their dreams.
They just dropping out, theydoing things and just thinking
that it's going to be easy.
The worst time for you to stoplearning is when you are young.
That's the worst time to stoplearning, because that's the

(26:18):
best time to learn.
That's the best time to pursueyour education and to cram as
much information into your brainand figure out what career you
want to do and what you like, what you don't like.
Try this.
It's not the time to be givingup.
Life is too tough already forus to give up at any age, but

(26:38):
especially when you are a youngadult.
I need for the youth, for the 19, 20 year olds, the high
schoolers, the middle schoolers.
I need for y'all to take yourlife serious, and this is for
anybody.
Take your life serious.
Don't play with your time, don't play with your mind.
Just don't play with it.
It's valuable.
It's like more.

(26:58):
