On Hope Unlocked, host Kristin Kurtz interviews Todd Reynolds of Sunrise New Testament Ministries on the calling that shifted him from sales to Scripture distribution. After a Sunday school plea for “Bibles in native languages,” Todd launched a lean model that partners with missionaries and local distributors to place affordable Bibles where access is scarce. Hear his near-death testimony, service-first sales mindset, and a VBS story from France that changed a family. We unpack why heart-language Scripture fuels evangelism and discipleship, how to endure dry seasons and practical ways to pray and support the Great Commission.

(00:58):
I am excited to have him heretoday.
Um, one of those like divineconnections, I happened to be on
a call, was it last month, withthe US Christian Chamber of
Commerce?
And we ended up in a littlegroup together in a breakout
session on our Zoom.
And I was just really um, Iguess you could say kind of

(01:20):
enamored by what he's um beendoing and the way that he's
followed the Lord and his walkof um having a ministry.
And I would love for you to justshare a little bit more about
you before we get into yourstory.

SPEAKER_00 (01:37):
Okay.
Well, Christian, I appreciateit.
And I appreciate you taking thetime to to do what you do with
your ministry.
And um, we had talked a littlebit before this, and uh the Lord
is really blessing it.
So hopefully we we can be a uhblessing back uh to your
ministry and also those outthere who may not be um are

(02:01):
feeling hopeless or kind of downwhere they're at.
And and again, that's somethingthat I can uh can appreciate.
Yeah, um, and hopefully todaywill help in some way, form, or
fashion.

SPEAKER_01 (02:16):
So I don't doubt it.

SPEAKER_00 (02:19):
Yeah, so just a little bit about myself.
I grew up on a farm uh and afamily farm, and we there's uh
in Frisco, Texas, and a lot ofpeople may know Frisco because
it has exploded.
I was there when there were2,000 people and more cattle
than people.
Wow.

(02:40):
And now there's close to 300,000people in Frisco.
So you bet.
And um, but I I went to um Iwent to um Texas AM.
Okay, graduated from Texas AM.
Um, and also a little bit laterafter graduation from AM, uh, I

(03:05):
also um from 94 to 97 uhattended Illinois State
University there as well andreceived received my master's.
Oh uh both of them havingnothing to do with the ministry
uh that that I'll share with ina little bit.
But I married uh my wife Kim andthen have two boys, uh 130 and

(03:29):
134.

SPEAKER_03 (03:31):
Okay.

SPEAKER_00 (03:32):
So um and uh some three dogs.

SPEAKER_01 (03:37):
Three dogs.
I love it.

SPEAKER_00 (03:38):
You bet, you bet.
So that's that's a little bit umabout me.

SPEAKER_01 (03:43):
And yeah.
Well, I love what you said.
Um, I I think about this often.
You know, I've I've got anoldest son who's currently in
college, and um I would love tomaybe like I feel like there's
there's something on this.
You you said what you went toschool for has nothing to do
with what you're currently doingnow.
Um I I've noticed that a lot ofuh even when I was in school,

(04:06):
there was kind of this ushering,as you you think of kind of like
cattle prodding, you know, likeI gotta go this way.
Um I'm guessing that you havesome elements of what you were
taught in school that you'vebrought into, you know, the work
that you do.
Um, what would you say to that?
Like what would you say to kids, even if somebody's like 18 and

(04:28):
they're like, oh, I'm so muchpressure, like there's so much
pressure for me to go tocollege.
Um, does that resonate with youat all?

SPEAKER_00 (04:35):
Right.
Well, um definitely um it'sinteresting with that that came
up that I know today the kid uhkids have a lot of pressure
today, and um college uhdefinitely helps uh from a
social and educational umperspective.

(04:58):
Uh, but also there are the um Iguess you'd say the trades that
are that are out there.
And uh not always, but thereseems to be a little less
pressure on that, uh, the thehuge financial you know
investment.

(05:18):
Um and and so the the trades area great alternative that
probably don't carry quite asmuch stress in that arena, but
uh both both options are good uhfor you.
So and you had asked, you didn'tknow if some of the stuff that I
learned at school didn't apply.

(05:39):
It did.
Um in my undergraduate at TexasAM, it was in agricultural
economics with a minor inmarketing.

SPEAKER_03 (05:49):
Wow.

SPEAKER_00 (05:49):
And I spent more time in the business school
doing economics and marketing,uh, but I had my core
agricultural classes, and a lotof that came from my you know,
my past, what you know, broughtup.
So and then my master's was alsoit was in um agribusiness

(06:11):
management.
So I spent more time in theschool of you know business and
marketing and stuff.
So I I guess I have a uh astrong um affinity to um
economics and and marketing.

(06:32):
Okay.
So I was in sales um for 30years and um was um
bivocational.
So the ministry started a goodwhile back, and then I was also
uh doing, I guess you could sayfrom a worldly standpoint, uh

(06:53):
doing sales there, but beingvery economical, um being very
efficient and effective issomething that's always and
always looking out for thebetterment of the customer.
It was just a lot of times therewas a lot of pressure to make

(07:19):
the sale and and then be gone, yeah.
But I just I just had uh a needto have to um make sure that I
was doing best what was best forthe customer in building their
business.

(07:39):
And it's amazing how that camearound that the there was a lot
more that I benefit I benefitedfrom by putting a priority on
them.

SPEAKER_05 (07:51):
Wow.

SPEAKER_00 (07:51):
And and I and I believe, I surely believe my
faith kind of led me down thatroad.
And even when the pressure wason to just make a sell uh and
not necessarily on the customer, that um my faith led me in the
direction of taking care of thecustomer, and in return, uh the

(08:13):
sales goals were met in themajority of situations.

SPEAKER_01 (08:17):
Wow.
I would love, I mean, this isthis is another, you know,
interesting conversation too, because um, you know, for those
of us who like I'm in, I have abusiness, um, many listeners
either are maybe going to bestepping into business or they
have a business.
And um I'm guessing most of thelisteners are believers as well.
And the world would tell you tosell one way.

(08:40):
There's a kingdom way ofselling.
What what were some experiencesthat you have?
Do you have any like testimoniesin that realm where you know you
you had the pressure, but thenyou felt him moving you to go
one way.
Um, do you have any examples oflike maybe some insight or um
wisdom to share with a listenerwho's you know really

(09:02):
struggling?
Because sales can be a reallybig challenge area for people in
business, would you say?

SPEAKER_00 (09:08):
Yeah, definitely, definitely.
It it can it can definitely bethat away.
Yeah.
Um, you know, the Bible tells usthat, you know, you know, give,
give, you know, uh it's likegive to God what is God's, uh,
you know, and to the governmentwas the government.

(09:31):
He used a specific name in that, and I just can't pull it up
right now.
The Caesar, yeah.
Caesar, sorry.

SPEAKER_01 (09:36):
Yeah, it's okay.

SPEAKER_00 (09:37):
Giving to Caesars what's Caesar's and to me, you
know, what is mine.
And so the approach was from thecompany standpoint where a lot
of the pressure was.
I thought it was important um toachieve and to put into practice

(10:01):
what they wanted me to do.
Uh because I was under them, Iwas employed by them.
But so the achievements came, Iutilized some of the skills that
they had put in place for us toapply.
But very after I did that, I Iadded something, I always added

(10:28):
it.
And it was it was the customerservice aspect of sales.
You know, sometimes they, youknow, there's really high
pressures on selling.
Uh sometimes um it's not ashigh, but uh I found over 30
years that if I gave to Caesarswhat was Caesars, sure, and and

(10:54):
to God what was God, and use anexample was the customer service
and being focused on thebetterment of who I was serving,
then um everyone won in thatinstance.
Yeah, and it was just you know, there were stresses there, like,
well, why didn't you do this?

(11:14):
This well, um we did do whatthey asked, yeah, and at the
same time we added that customerservice base.

SPEAKER_01 (11:23):
Yeah, so you took it up to another level of like
really reaching the customer andright away beyond that, you
know, somebody maybe have toldyou.

SPEAKER_00 (11:33):
Right, right.
There was it was it was likeokay, you get the sale, you move
on, whatever, but servicingthose accounts and and those
people and getting to know them, yeah, and what their goals were,
yeah.
And being able to fit what youwere offering into that to help

(11:58):
them reach those goals and reachthem faster.

SPEAKER_01 (12:01):
Yeah, that's great.
Like I feel like kind of theencapsulation is like the key of
relationship, it's likerelationship building, not just
the sale, right?

SPEAKER_00 (12:11):
Absolutely.
The sales will come.

SPEAKER_01 (12:13):
Yeah.
Well, thank you for kind ofgoing there.
We just never know what's gonnahappen on here.
Um, I I often think of like, what is what might somebody be
asking?
And um, so you're you're doingsales for 30 years, and then I
know where you're at today, youhave a ministry.
So, how did you move into theministry space?
Like, what what did that looklike at the beginning of that

(12:34):
journey?

SPEAKER_00 (12:35):
Okay, well, I was very blessed to have grown up in
a uh strong Christian family, and uh we were always in church,
and then at 10 years of age, umthe uh Holy Spirit was nudging
me, and um, I made a professionof faith at at 10 years of age.

(12:56):
Wow, and um, and then jumpinginto I guess you'd say more into
the school years, in about 1993,after I'd gotten out of uh Texas
AM, I just kind of felt likethere was something above and

(13:18):
beyond just going to church onSunday, uh being a part of a
Sunday school, uh, and eventeaching the youth.
It was something that happened,it was a great opportunity, but
I just felt like there wassomething above and beyond that

(13:40):
um God wanted me to do.
And so from and I will say this, there were times when I may have
gotten a little off track onthat, and like for example, um I
also did was doing somephotography on the side, and
okay, and then in my my wifealways says, your latest scheme,

(14:06):
your late, your latest scheme, but what I was looking at is uh
doing calendars and stuff likethat with that, but then I had
to, but then I had to bringmyself in, you know, God had to
bring me back in line, yeah.
And um, and there were one ortwo other things that I did on
the side, but God kind ofbrought me back.

(14:28):
And in the year in 2000, I'dgone from um well in '97, I had
moved from animal health cellsinto human pharmaceutical cells.
Okay.
And um in 2000, all during thattime prior to that, I knew God

(14:50):
there was something God wascalling, but I just didn't know
what it was.

SPEAKER_04 (14:53):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (14:54):
And in 2000, we were looking for some property to
build a house on, and there wasa creek that went through the
property, and that property, uh,and you couldn't walk around it
because it went completelythrough the property.

SPEAKER_05 (15:08):
Okay.

SPEAKER_00 (15:09):
And uh, but it was dry.
But people building the housenext door uh put some brand new
tube eights across it, and so Itold my family just to stay
there.
So I walked across and Ithought, oh, if it breaks, I'll
just jump off, you know.

SPEAKER_04 (15:24):
Sure.

SPEAKER_00 (15:24):
Uh no big deal to break my elbow, whatever.
Yeah, and but it but the gothalfway across and the right one
broke, and physics doesn't thinkthe way that we think, so it it
ended up flipping me upsidedown, and I I fell five feet
into the dry creek bed and endedup breaking my neck.

SPEAKER_05 (15:48):
Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00 (15:49):
And somehow, some way I was able uh to get back to
the car, and then we went, youknow, to the hospital.
We had to walk through theproperty to get back to the car.
And um, and so that happened, and the doctors were like, you
know, I mean, you should beeither dead at the least in a

(16:12):
wheelchair, and and and there'sand when I mentioned this,
definitely no disrespect tothose who have had issues who
who may be uh confined to awheelchair or something to that
effect, yeah.
Um because you know there'sstrong hope in Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_04 (16:35):
Yes.

SPEAKER_00 (16:36):
And um, and then in and then in 2002, I was having a
surgery and I aspirated insurgery.
So it and that that was a prettylong recovery.
And and um and they said you youshouldn't, you know, you

(16:57):
shouldn't be here um because myoxygen saturations were so low.
But I thought, okay, came outokay, that's too Lord.
In in a matter of a year, uh twoyears.
Two years, okay.
Within two years, and the Lordsp spared me.
I I mean for me, he spared mefor others, he didn't, but um

(17:23):
this um there are greatopportunities for those of you
who may be uh you know be a uhparaplegic or quadriplegic.
Uh God can speak through you andand use you in so many ways.

SPEAKER_04 (17:39):
Yes.

SPEAKER_00 (17:40):
But um not too long after, well, not too long after
that in 2005, we were sitting inSunday school, and we usually
sat in the back, but this Sundaywe sat in the front, and the the
um Sunday school teacher waslike, Well, we have a special

(18:01):
guest today from South Africa, and um and uh he's gonna just
share with us and and share withus the kind of needs that he has
and in his church, and then thisbooming South African voice, um
it was like we don't need foodor clothes, we need Bibles, we

(18:27):
need the Word of God, and weneed them in languages.
In his church, uh, they had fiveto six different languages in
one church, one church,Johannesburg, South Africa.
Wow, and um so we I was gonnatake a ministry trip there and

(18:49):
get Bible uh and so well I'msorry, what happened there is it
hit me like a it hit me upsidethe head like a bat, and I went,
that's it.
That's what God's been talkingto me about for a long, long
time.
And I knew right then and therethat getting the word of God out

(19:13):
in native languages is what hewanted, uh, what what he wanted
me to do.
And he's blessed our he'sblessed the ministry for uh on
now we are at 20 years.

SPEAKER_01 (19:28):
Wow.
Uh can I rewind a little bit?
Sure.
You had this moment, you know, you're sitting in the church,
you have this like this is it,and you mentioned that you like
this was what he was trying toshow you all along the way.
Prior to that moment, were therelittle breadcrumbs that you
maybe just that were comingalong your path, and you just
were like, like when you saythat he was, you know, showing

(19:52):
you this maybe a little bitprior.
Was there indication that thiswas the thing prior to hearing
it?

SPEAKER_00 (20:00):
There really wasn't.
Okay, so you have you just knewthis was it was a very beast uh
be still and you know, know thatI'm Lord, you know.
Yeah, like hear my okay, and hedidn't he didn't reveal, I mean,
for years, he didn't reveal whatit was, and I'm just I'm just so

(20:25):
glad, yeah, or praise the Lordthat he allowed me not to go off
on track, you know, get offtrack and and or to quit
listening to that little voice.
Yeah, yeah you know, and asChristians, when we become when

(20:45):
we're saved, you know, the HolySpirit comes in.
So he, you know, at his time hejust kept knock, kind of
knocking, but he wasn'trevealing, wasn't revealing, and
then he re and then he revealedit, yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (20:58):
So you had this sense that like there's more,
there's something beyond whatI'm doing here, and that
prepared your heart for thatmoment when he's like, This is
it.
So you figure this is it.
Then what happened?

SPEAKER_00 (21:13):
Well, I just turned on my wife and I said, That's
it, and she goes, What?
And I said, That's what God'sbeen, that's what the Holy
Spirit's been pecking at me withfor nearly the past 10 years,
you know.
I I knew there was something Itried to a few times, I guess I

(21:33):
got off track and kind of triedto fill it with something else,
you know, businessbusiness-wise, not not substance
abuse or anything like that.
But yeah, um, but uh, but he Isaid that's I mean, I said
that's it.
Bibles, you know, it in thenative languages.

(21:55):
I mean, you can you can sendthem English Bibles, but what
good is that gonna?
I mean, uh I let me step back alittle bit.
The word of God doesn't evercome back empty.
Yeah, so he could definitelyhave someone who speaks a
different language look at anEnglish Bible, and the person he

(22:19):
can even get to the point ofbeing saved because that's the
power of the word, and God saidit will it will not come back
void, yeah.
And there's several examples ofthat um over the last 20 years,
but um but in in most in mostcases having that native

(22:40):
language bible there.

SPEAKER_01 (22:42):
Yeah.
So yes.
So you're was your wife onboard?
Like did she what like what didthat like what did that process
look like?

SPEAKER_00 (22:50):
You know you know she was, but she was she was
concerned, well, maybe it'sanother one of those maybe it's
another one of those things.
Yeah, so but um yeah, but it butyou know she she came to s see,

(23:10):
you know, uh what you know whatGod was doing and and everything
like that.
So but um, you know, it's justit's it's been um it's been
amazing.
Um you know it's been 20 years.
He's allowed us to be in sixdifferent continents.

(23:31):
Wow, uh 30 some 30, 30 pluscountries, yeah.
Um, and we've been able todistribute a little over 200,000
Bibles.
It's amazing, uh, New Testamentsand Bibles over that that period
of time, and it's just amazing.
And regardless of what's goingwhat's going on in our economies

(23:53):
and and our leaders and and allthat stuff, it just things
always seem to work out, youknow.

SPEAKER_01 (24:01):
Yeah, so tell us tell us the name of your
ministry.

SPEAKER_00 (24:05):
Our ministry is Sunrise New Testament
Ministries, and the sunrise iswith an O instead of a U.
Uh again, Sunrise New TestamentMinistries, and what we do is we
partner with existing Christianorganizations in distributing uh

(24:28):
Bibles and New Testamentsworldwide in native languages.

SPEAKER_04 (24:32):
Okay.

SPEAKER_00 (24:33):
And um, our vision is to be able to respond to
pretty much any ministrychallenge, you know, or ministry
need that's out there.
We uh the Lord has helped us tofulfill the the um the mission
statement, but it's notcomplete, it's not a complete

(24:57):
thing.
That will go on until either orhe comes back, you know.
Yeah, uh, but that vision, wereally on that vision, we we
haven't gotten there yet.
And and and in reality, uhthat's something that's gonna go
on until either Christ comesback, you know, because there's

(25:20):
always gonna be people out thereto be reached.

SPEAKER_01 (25:23):
Yes.
I'd love to hear, like, have youum, you know, you're here and
the Bibles are are going over toother continents.
Have you heard, like, could youshare a testimonial of somebody
who actually was a recipient ofyour Bible that you'd sent over?
Um, are there any testimoniesthat you could share?

SPEAKER_00 (25:43):
Sure, definitely.
Uh, just uh just kind of let youknow a little bit, people are
like, wow, how do you get allthat?
Again, we we're a small we're asmall ministry and we we we
don't keep inventory because weutilize distributors that are

(26:04):
already out there working withBibles and stuff.
And so on a local level, domestic level, we will, when
there's a need, we will go toone of our distributors and have
them to send it directly to theto the ministries where
regardless of what the ministryis, sends it there from an

(26:27):
international standpoint.
Fortunately, the majority ofmissionaries um overseas, we and
and this is something that blowsmy mind.
Um, we have been serving uhBibles to 65 uh different um
missionaries.

(26:49):
And I did a little, I wasinterested, I did a little
survey, and out of the 65, onlytwo had ever received Bibles,
much less Bibles in nativelanguage, in order to get it out
at that point.
It's like they're at the pointof the spear, wow, working, and

(27:12):
they and um American churchesand organizations do a wonderful
job getting them to theirdestination and and helping them
to you know to stay, I guess youcall it solvent, you know, to
keep going.
But yeah, and I think a lot ofus feel like, well, they're
getting Bibles, you know, uh,but they're but they're not.

(27:35):
So internationally, we havethere's a couple U.S.
organizations that we uh getBibles over internationally, but
we have found that the biggestneed is for missionaries, okay.
Um, based on what I just sharedwith you.
It's it's it's wild.

(27:58):
This is kind of a situation, yeah.
You know, we have missionarieson the ground, tip of the spear,
and the people that they'reinteracting with.
And there can be in the samecommunity, two one, two miles
away, there's a Bible society.
Wow, but no no one anywhere nearthat Bible society is ever gonna

(28:23):
purchase a Bible because theirincome may be twelve dollars a
year.

SPEAKER_01 (28:29):
Wow, and how much is a Bible to pay for or less?

SPEAKER_00 (28:32):
Uh between five to ten is what we've seen.

SPEAKER_01 (28:34):
Wow.
A piece, depending on the kindof literally pay your almost a
half year's wage.

SPEAKER_00 (28:41):
Yes.
There's no way they can afford aBible.

SPEAKER_01 (28:45):
And would they even know that they have a need for
it at that point?

SPEAKER_00 (28:50):
Uh we have found that a lot of them do.
They have a desire for it, theydo, but they know it's not a
reality based on where they'reat.

unknown (28:59):
Wow.

SPEAKER_00 (29:00):
And so I use the term so close, but yet so far.

SPEAKER_05 (29:07):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (29:08):
And and it's just it's that is where the passion
we're finding more and more thatit's the focus is on
missionaries.
We still deal with our um otherorganizations, but the
missionaries were just, I thinkthat's an area that there needs
to be a link.

(29:29):
And so Sunrise New Testamentministry wants to be that link.
Yes.
Um, and um, and themissionaries, the missionaries
want it.
They they they want it, they'rethey're nearly as excited as the
people that that get the Bibles.

SPEAKER_04 (29:46):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (29:46):
So what we do with a lot of them, what we do with the
missionaries is we uh most ofthem go go through organizations
here in the states, and sothere's a portal, there's a
missionary portal.
they can receive dollars so wewe send a special gift for for
bibles only in native languageand we core we correspond and

(30:10):
develop a personal relationshipwith those missionaries wow and
they take those dollars and whatthey do is they get they go get
those bibles at that biblesociety that would have never
been able to you know and it itmakes that connection yeah it's
that connection there and sothose bibles are gonna affect

(30:31):
when they're passed down yeahthey're they're gonna be passed
down over generations yes andnot to and I would never talk
down about my country in the USit's wonderful I've been blessed
beyond measures but the valuewhen those people get that bible

(30:52):
yeah they're they are obsessedabout sharing it wow and getting
into that word the passion justseems to be so much stronger
there be I guess because they'vebeen held back for so long and

(31:13):
something they thought theywould never be able to have a
part of there they're able to tohave a part of that.
That's incredible we we oneexample is that there's um a
missionary to France and we sendover funds of so they could get
Bibles and and they have thesevacation bible schools over

(31:36):
there okay where the childrencome in and and they play and
all that stuff and then theyhear about they hear about the
gospel well this one girl shethey she received one of those
Bibles and took it home.
Well on a Sunday morning and ithappened to fall in between

(31:58):
Sunday school and church I get Iget this I get this email and
it's from the the uh missionaryto France he said this little
girl and this is because theytold him this this little girl
and they didn't she didn't havea father but she had a mother

(32:21):
that mother was not churched hadno ambition to go to church that
little girl brought that Biblehome and she had sat it and she
sat it on her i guess a dresseror whatever and we don't know
exactly and then one day whenthe mother went into the room

(32:42):
either to clean it up orwhatever she came across that
Bible and we don't know whatpart she read all we know is
that she told her daughter hey II I looked at I looked at the
Bible everything she says can Ican we go to church Sunday so
the mother I don't know whathappened um well I know what

(33:07):
happened yeah but I don't knowwhat she looked at but she she
said I'm gonna go check out thischurch thing and he said that
morning that the mother camedown and and uh accepted Jesus
Christ as her savior yeah and hehe was so excited and it was so

(33:33):
rewarding yeah and the greatthing and I would just mention
this whether if you're in aministry or you're in a
situation and it's it's notministry related um when you're
helping when you're it okaylet's say if you're not in a
ministry but it's your your yourdaily your daily walk or

(33:56):
whatever when you're when you'reserving other people yeah even
if the Bible tells us even ifone person comes to know all the
angels in heaven will rejoiceyes and so if it's just that one
and and for example with sunriseif we go 25 years whatever it is

(34:25):
and that's the only thing thatthat that's the only harvest
that we see it's enough.
Yeah yeah but I know that in ourAmerican culture it's about
quantity it is instead ofquality and it's just something
that we struggle with that wehave to go through but that's a

(34:48):
long way that's a longexplanation of what you ask I
apologize.

SPEAKER_01 (34:54):
No there's no need to apologize.
I think everything you sharedneeded to be shared and is so
impactful because it it reallyencapsulates you know your heart
you know we talked about thisbefore we got started like I am
I am one who does it for the onetoo like he left the 99 for the
one like that that's that'skingdom math right there right

(35:17):
there.
And um you know you think ofsometimes sometimes you don't
even know what your yes isproducing on the other side like
what it what is happening on theother side of somebody when you
say yes to something that'sbigger than you what you're
doing is bigger than you rightbigger than you I can imagine I

(35:42):
mean and I'm not downplayinglike your abilities but I'm just
saying what you said yes to isbig right beyond you it it takes
a partnership with the HolySpirit to get this thing moving
and and all the things right andwhat I want to encapsulate is is

(36:03):
your yes truly has generationalimplications.
And you may not even see like heshowed me years ago this this
was so blessed me because um Ishared with you I did accounting
for like 20 years.
So and I'm I'm in math like I II'm a numbers person.

(36:24):
Just generally I can figurethings out math wise but you
know in in multiplication onetimes one is just one but he
showed me one times one in thekingdom is exponential.
Like you impact one person youmay never know until like we get
to heaven like the multitudesbehind them.
And I think like just yousharing that like will

(36:47):
definitely encourage somebodywho's listening in today who
whether in they're in businessor in ministry and you know we
do we have times where um thenumbers aren't adding up right
right absolutely how like inyour 20 years have you had
moments where on paper it's notadding up and maybe the world

(37:09):
would say well what are youdoing like this isn't adding up
maybe like how do you keep goingwhat what like how do you keep
going okay I really appreciatethat and it's um in actuality
it's something that um I alwayslike to use the term we but I'll

(37:30):
just I'll I'll say I in theleadership aspect of the company
of uh God's ministry is uh we'recurrent I'm currently going
through that um you know we gothrough valleys and and deserts
and right now you know we're ina desert but what God is uh and

(37:56):
and I'll be honest um there'sfamily I have family that you
know they haven't rejected mebut they've kind of rejected the
the ministry um uh even evensome um immediate you know

(38:18):
family so it's um it's it's veryreal and it's it's it's pretty
taxing and you know just all thethings around Satan is just like
wow you know like you said thisain't adding up yeah you know
this isn't adding up so um butthe Lord tells us you know he

(38:42):
only he only asks us to plantyeah the seed he said other
people will come by and water itum and you know and it'll it'll
come about and so that's whatwe're commanded to do uh in in

(39:03):
the um great commission uh it'snot a suggestion yeah uh the
great commission is a is acommand to go and teach and
share and um and that's that'splanting that seed you know and
uh that's what God calls us todo whether it's in ministry or

(39:25):
or whether it's in actuallyevery Christian is in a ministry
situation.

SPEAKER_00 (39:31):
Yeah whether we know it or not whether we don't want
to do it or not you know youknow God told us that so even if
you don't have a ministry per seyou do have a ministry with
those around for sure and Idon't need I don't and you asked

(39:52):
me what do I do like we're inthat desert um yeah it's it's
very discouraging but if I if Icould do we have time for me to
share a couple of things yeahyeah you're free forgive me if
um I've got everything here ifmy computer slides down or
something oh that's okay Iapologize no worries yeah but

(40:16):
what I wanted to what I wantedto do real quick and it's
something that God has sharedwith me yeah that um that is um
you have to forgive me here noworries you've got time all
right in Galatians chapter fiveverse uh 25 okay it's it says

(40:42):
since we live by the spirit ofcourse that being that's
speaking to Christians becauseum and I want to get too deep
into theology but um if we'renot christians we we don't have
the holy spirit in us so when webecome a Christian when we

(41:06):
accept Jesus Christ as oursavior and and repent of our
sins and and come to him andmake him lord he he the holy
spirit enters yeah enters youand he is the one thing that is
always there guiding you andencouraging you so in verse 25

(41:28):
it says since we live by thespirit it says let us keep in
step with the spirit it says umso on both sides of this I won't
get into it but it has the umspiritual gifts and in around
the section it talks aboutspiritual gifts it tells us you

(41:52):
know what they are it also tellsus what is not spiritual gifts
and so we don't have to try todiscern that we just need to
live by the spirit and to stayin in step with it so he he's
laid it all out there now aswell in 2 Corinthians chapter

(42:22):
three okay uh verse four it sayssuch confidence we have through
christ before God not that weare competent in ourselves that
we've talked about that todaywe're not we're not competent in
ourselves no matter uh howsuccessful we are we are not

(42:44):
competent in ourselves when itcomes to ministry but it says
that uh through christ beforeGod not that we are competent in
ourselves to claim anything forourselves but our competence
comes from God he has made uscompetent as ministers of a new

(43:05):
covenant um not of the letterlike the letter of the law the
the old uh the old covenant butthe new covenant uh which it
says not of the letter but ofthe spirit it says the letter
kills but the spirit gives lifethat that has has really helped

(43:27):
me through yeah in in those inthose times that have been hard
and and those times have beenlately more so than anything
yeah uh also in 2 Corinthianschapter 4 verse 16 it says
therefore we do not lose heartthough outwardly we are wasting

(43:52):
away and at 60 I can appreciatethat yet inwardly we are being
renewed day by day yeah for ourlight and momentary troubles are
achieving for us an eternalglory that far outweighs them
yes so for those of you who feellike you're at the end of your

(44:18):
rope um and I'm not gonnapretend to be a therapist or
anything yeah but um but justjust alone in those two verses
um as a as a born-againchristian regardless of your
situation yeah um the HolySpirit is in you um and we we

(44:42):
live in um I guess you say in uhunity with the spirit yeah and
then um we even though we mightbe outwardly wasting away and I
can I can attest to that after12 uh subsequent surgeries that
have resulted from the fall somany years ago but but I there I

(45:07):
can share with something aboutthat again but I won't well for
right now I guess yeah uh inGalatians chapter five yeah it
says um it says you my brothersand sisters were called to be
free uh it says it says but donot use your freedom to indulge

(45:30):
flesh rather serve one anotherhumbly in love for the entire
law is fulfilled in keeping thisone commandment love your
neighbor as yourself okay sothat's five thirteen through
fourteen right correct thirteenuh thirteen through fourteen or
three yes okay so what it tellsus there in that in that one is

(45:54):
is rather uh serve one anotherhumbly in love and and so one
thing I've also found when I'mreally kind of down and out is
go serve someone say that againhelp someone in need yeah and we

(46:16):
may think ah that's not gonnamake a difference and but it'll
it'll blow you away what it isit's living by the spirit and
that that's that's what that issaying.
It says there's only one there'sthat one command yes you know
love one another.
Yes you know just as Christ hashas loved you.

SPEAKER_01 (46:38):
So that's uh thank you for sharing these verses I'm
gonna link them in in the shownotes for you guys who are
listening who didn't um writedown the verses and you know go
dig into these verses um foryourself um you know I've had
have I've had quite a yearmyself and one of the verses

(46:59):
that was really highlighted tome was James one two through
three and it's um this you mightappreciate this one too but it's
count it all joy my brotherswhen you meet trials of various
kinds and in another one it saysof many kinds um for you know
that the testing of your faithproduces steadfastness and let

(47:21):
steadfastness have its fulleffect that you may be perfect
complete lacking in nothing andum you know I could go on with
that but you know it's it'sthese moments and and I'm sure
you've done this too whereyou're one of the things you do
is you go out and serve others.
You know when you feel like youknow you're kind of down and out
like get out of yourself likeyou know I I like to say and I

(47:44):
I'm not this doesn't this is nota mean way but I have kind of
double mean it's like get overyourself like get over and above
like take take yourself out ofthe equation for a moment and go
reach out to somebody whetherit's like it's not necessarily
having to go leave your houseyou can call somebody say hello
you can um send somebody amessage literally when you're at

(48:05):
the grocery store you couldsmile at somebody and you never
know what could happen.
So you're in this you knowyou're in this season and that's
it's interesting because youknow I talk to a lot of people
and there's many of us that arewalking through some things
right now.
And you know what would be a waythat somebody can like partner

(48:28):
with you help you in this seasonum you know what are what do you
need what do you need Todd?

SPEAKER_00 (48:36):
Okay well I appreciate that yeah um first
and foremost cherish any prayersyeah that that you may have um
because you know it's it tellsus that we're one or we're two
or more of you are together it'sharder you know to break it's

(48:57):
harder for Satan to to breakthrough that was kind of
paraphrased but but um so thatreally so in living in the
spirit you know we are you knowwe are two or more you know when
it comes to prayer we're we'relinked in there whether we
physically go hey or we're oneon one we can pray and still be

(49:22):
linked through the Holy Spiritas as believers and um prayer
would be number one uh numbertwo um from a worldly standpoint
money but but it's but you knowwe're not ashamed of the gospel

(49:43):
and yes we ask for money yes umso that we can get the word of
God the word of Jesus Christ outyeah to all the nations yes it
it doesn't matter whether it'sten dollars it doesn't matter
whether it's um you know 25whatever the Lord is leading yes

(50:05):
um it's what can it can reallyhelp and we and we get
communication back andconfirmation back from from
where those go out you know theBibles go out and we communicate
it back to those who havesupported us.

SPEAKER_01 (50:24):
That's amazing um wow do you want me to give an
email or or yeah so um and I Iwas just gonna ask as well so if
there's any um missionaries likeorganizations um like would it
be good like if somebody'shearing you today would it be
good for them to reach out toyou let them know kind of what

(50:46):
they're doing um if so like whatis the best contact information
for them to reach you okay okayum there's different ways uh uh
the the email is w toddrunns atyahoo.com do that by email my

(51:09):
phone number is nine four zerosix three one six one eight six
okay and um and so you can getyou know you can get in touch
with me with me there okayperfect and I will link this in
the show notes too so you guyscan go to the show notes if you

(51:29):
didn't capture the email and thephone number he gave um it'll be
there for you okay yeah yeah wereally appreciate it yes well
it's been a blessing to have youon today um I knew when I heard
just a very short snippet ofyour story I was like we need to
have Todd on to share what he'sdoing in the world because it's
it's huge.

(51:50):
And I thank you for the workthat you're doing and the the
continuing on to perseveredespite I'm in it with you.
I'm in it with you and you knowand there's many of us that are
that are in it with you.
I feel like you know Hebrews 11the the heroes of the faith the
Lord showed me earlier this yearhe said you're a hero of the
faith who's fight or you're ayou're a what'd he say you're a

(52:13):
faith giant who is fightinggiants or facing giants right
even though we may not feel likea faith giant it's the ones who
continue to persevere eventhough it looks crazy I just say
it looks crazy sometimes rightlike this like no sometimes
things don't add up yeah I thinkin our Noah's friends and family

(52:33):
were probably like what it's notraining why are you building an
ark what in the world are youdoing you're losing your mind
you know so you know keep onlike all the Noah build I call
them the Noah builders the onesthat are building birthing
things that maybe don't makesense he is so proud of you so
thank you for being a bravevoice who's setting many free I

(52:56):
would love for you to just shareis there any other um just words
of of wisdom that you'd want toshare over somebody and then
would you pray us out today sureif if I had if I had any I'm
getting feedback there I'm sorryno it's it's good if if I had

(53:17):
any anything to share um againjust remember that uh whoever's
listening that you were createdby God in his image and he he

(53:39):
blew the breath of life into youhe didn't breathe that breath of
life into everything elsebecause he knew us before we
were in a womb and and all thatand so the value that you have

(54:00):
and the fact that he would sendhis son to die on the cross to
save you from your sins if wewould just admit and turn from
those sins that's how valuableyou are nobody no matter what
anybody tells you and no matteryour physical what's going on

(54:22):
physically with you or mentallywith you uh just live in the
spirit uh being in the same mindas the spirit and know that that
you're gonna get through it andthat the Lord's gonna bring you

(54:44):
through yeah um that's what Ithat's what I would share and I
really again I really appreciatethe time that that you've
allowed me to share.

SPEAKER_00 (54:54):
Yes and um I guess we'll go Lord in prayer.

SPEAKER_01 (54:58):
Yes thank you.

SPEAKER_00 (54:59):
Amen dear Heavenly Father we just come to you today
and praise your name for who youare uh the Almighty creator of
everything and um we we want tothank you so much for sending
your son to die on the cross forour sins um Lord I pray for all

(55:21):
those here today that eitherhave a ministry uh organization
or is ministering on their dailywalk at whatever job it may be
whatever situation they may bein that the Lord has given you

(55:44):
if if if you have accepted himas your savior he's given you
the Holy Spirit and the HolySpirit is there maybe not always
clear but in the end it'll bemade clear even if it is the end
of time it will be clear and Ijust Lord I just pray that

(56:13):
everyone on this podcast willsee the extreme value and even
if you just plant one seed youhave you have done what the Lord
has called you to do in reachingothers for his name's sake.
In Jesus Christ's name Amen.

SPEAKER_01 (56:36):
Amen well Todd thank you for being on today I
appreciate everything you'veshared I know that you are
blessing many who are listeningin today so like I said I'll
I'll post all of his contactinformation in the show notes
and I'm gonna close with HopeUnlocked anchoring verse which
is may the God of hope fill youwith all joy and peace in
believing so that by the powerof the Holy Spirit you may

(56:59):
abound in hope.
And that's Romans 1513 so thankyou again Todd I will be back
with another episode next week.

Stuff You Should Know
Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
