Okay, y’all, today we're digging into a topic we often push aside.

We talk a lot about what it means to build an Ideal Practice(c), attracting perfect clients, doing the work we were called to do... but what happens to all of that – and more importantly, to our clients – if the unexpected happens to us?

In this episode, I’m talking to the amazing Robyn Miller. Robyn is the founder of TheraClosure, a first-of-its-kind service that provides professional executor services to therapists.

She's here to guide us through this crucial, yet often neglected, aspect of responsible practice ownership.

Because here's the truth:

Having a plan for your practice closure isn't about planning for the worst … it's a profound act of care for your clients, your family, and your professional legacy.

In this episode, you'll hear:

  • Why simply naming a colleague or family member as your 'professional executor' often isn't enough (and why it can be deeply unfair). << This was HUGE for me.
  • The crucial, specific details that your professional will MUST include (it goes way beyond client names, folks).
  • The single biggest mistake therapists make regarding passwords and record access in the case of an emergency.

Oy.

This may be a real eye-opener for most of you (it sure was for me), but this, too, is part of having an Ideal Practice(c).

Estate planning is a serious subject.  It’s a hard subject.  But it’s an important one because I know how deeply you care about your clients.

And taking the time to plan for the unexpected is your chance to make sure they are taken care of, no matter what.

Give it a listen.

TODAY’S GUEST:  ROBYN MILLER

Robyn Miller, Ph.D. is the founder of TheraClosure, LLC, the first psychotherapist professional executor service in the U.S. Trained at Harvard Medical School, she writes and trains clinicians on professional wills and the role of practice executor.

She says therapists must safeguard their clients, practice, and family with a comprehensive professional will that plans for client wellbeing - and the security of medical records - in the event of incapacitation or death.

This important but challenging ethical obligation is often overlooked, but essential to protect those who depend on us and the practice to which we've devoted so much.
