Sempre più spesso, purtroppo, sentiamo parlare di una superiore civiltà occidentale, la liberaldemocrazia (qualsiasi cosa essa sia) è il modello a cui tutto il mondo deve conformarsi, questo ci da il diritto di definire dittature tutte le esperienze diverse dalle nostre. Qualsiasi critica al nostro sistema viene sdegnosamente respinta con l’argomentazione che l’alternativa è Putin.
Il libro di Piergiorgio Odifreddi ci offre una lettura molto diversa della realtà, la sua è una critica radicale, ovverosia contesta alla radice le convinzioni sulla superiorità occidentale, dimostrandoci che tanto di quello che c’è stato di esecrabile nella storia è fatto o è stato fatto proprio dall'Occidente (da intendersi sempre in un’accezione politica e non geografica).
