So over the course of the nextfive days, there's going to be a
(01:53):
new podcast episode released, and with each podcast episode I
am going to introduce you to anew concept tool activity that
you can do to connect more withyour own intuition to get your
own intuitive businessbreakthrough.
Today's lesson, I'm introducinga foundational exercise that I
(02:17):
teach every single client, and Ifind it to be so important that
I've offered it as a freeexercise for anybody to sign up
and download and follow, and soyou may have.
If you've been following me,you may have already downloaded
or accessed the free Say yes toyour Dream Career and Dream
(02:40):
Business video where I guide youthrough a process to help you
identify and clarify your greenand red flag feelings.
So you may have heard me talkabout green and red flag
feelings before.
Now I'm going to go into alittle bit of detail about why I
start with this particularexercise first, what this
(03:03):
exercise is about, and I'm goingto start to introduce you to
how to use this exercise in yourdecision making and to connect
with the language of yourintuition and why this exercise
is so darn important.
So I'm not going to guide youthrough how exactly to do this
exercise.
(03:23):
I highly suggest that youaccess the training series or,
at the very least, access thefree exercise on its own so that
you can go through the guidedvisualization where you are
going to tap into your green andred flag feelings, a general
overview of what this is about.
(03:45):
When I guide you through theguided visualization, what I'm
doing is first of all helpingyou to relax your nervous system
and I'm going to explain whythat's so important to start
with first, and then, throughthe visualization, I guide you
first to tap into thinking aboutmemories of first, challenging,
(04:07):
uncomfortable, hurtfulexperiences that you may have
had.
I know it's not so great tothink about these things, but
what I guide you to do is tothink about in those situations
that were hurtful, that werepainful, that were difficult,
that did not align with you.
When you look back on thesituation, you know that that
(04:29):
situation did not align withyour soul.
And think about in thosesituations, how did you feel,
what sensations did you have, where did you feel them in your
body and what exactly did thosesensations feel like?
And this is the first step tounderstanding your red flag
feelings, those feelings thatindicate that something is not
(04:55):
aligned for you, somethingdoesn't feel good for you,
something does not feel optimalfor you.
And then, in the visualization,I'm going to get you to think
about really wonderful moments, moments that felt aligned, where
you felt at ease, where youfelt happy, secure.
(05:16):
It just felt like everythingwas working out the way you
wanted, the way that feltoptimal for you.
And when you think about thosemoments, think about how did you
feel?
What were the sensations?
Where did you feel thosesensations?
How did those sensations feel?
These are your green flagfeelings.
(05:39):
Now, why is it that I'm focusingon these feelings and
sensations and where do you feelthem in your body?
Now, the reason why I guide youthrough this exercise in the
way that I do is because yourintuition and your nervous
system are so closely associated.
And this is why, number one, Iguide you to relax your body
(06:03):
before we do the visualization, because the more your nervous
system is in ventral vagal state, which means you're more in a
relaxation state, the more yourheart rate variability is in a
coherent state, which means thatyou are in a more relaxed and
(06:26):
regulated state.
This will improve yourconnection to be able to pick up
on your intuitive hits.
Studies show there's a strongassociation with heart rate
variability and coherence andintuition, and so this is why I
always start with nervous systemfirst.
Not only is it important foryour physical body and your
(06:49):
physical health, because it'sthe bridge between your inner
emotional terrain and everysingle physiological system in
your body, but it's also highlyconnected to your intuition.
We all have access to ourintuition, but we might not
understand the language, wemight not trust it, and I'm
(07:10):
going to get into that in aminute as to why that might be
and some considerations andperspective shifts to consider
in terms of better understandingyour intuition and trusting it.
So when we talk about ournervous system, especially when
we're talking about ourparasympathetic nervous system,
so we have two arms of ournervous system.
(07:31):
We've got our sympatheticnervous system, which is our
fight or flight response, ourstress response, and then we
have our parasympathetic nervoussystem and the ventral vagal
aspect of the parasympatheticnervous system is associated
with what we would call rest anddigest.
I'm not going to go into all thedetails about how your nervous
system works.
(07:51):
There is a presentation thatI've done in the past called
Understanding your NervousSystem, and I will include a
link to that presentation in thetraining series so that you can
access that.
When you access this trainingseries, if you sign up, if you
want to go learn more about yournervous system and these
(08:12):
concepts that I've justmentioned, I'll explain.
I explain all about them inthat recorded presentation.
Now here's the thing about theparasympathetic nervous system.
80% of this nervous systemcommunication is happening from
the body up to the brain.
There are only 20% of thefibers which are motor fibers
going from the brain down to thebrain.
(08:33):
There are only 20% of thefibers which are motor fibers
going from the brain down to thebody, and so that means that
your nervous system the part ofyour nervous system especially
that's highly connected withyour intuition is communicating
from picking up information fromthe body and bringing it up to
the brain, not the other wayaround, and this is why your
intuition doesn't typicallycommunicate through your mind
(08:57):
and your thoughts, but ratherthrough your body and your
physical sensations.
And this is why I guide youthrough this green and red flag
feelings exercise as the firstof many steps to start to
connect yourself with, pickingup on the nuances and oftentimes
(09:19):
they can be very subtle Pickingup on the nuances of what your
body is communicating to you indifferent situations.
It's always giving you feedbackand messages and information.
It's just whether or not you'reA paying attention and B know
how to pick up, interpret andtranslate that information so
(09:41):
that you can use it.
So this is why I start with thegreen and red flag feelings
exercise.
As you can see, this exercise isall about you tuning into the
physical sensations in your bodywith different experiences,
particularly memories ofdifferent experiences, because
(10:02):
they've already passed.
So that's accurate data.
If you think about experiencesthat did not feel aligned for
you, you know, looking back, hindsight is always 20-20.
You can look back and go yeah, that was not aligned.
Okay, how did I feel?
What sensations did I have inthose moments?
(10:22):
Right, and then there's othersensations that you're going to
have in those moments where youlook back and you go that was so
aligned, I was in my flow.
That was what I want, and whenyou think about those, you're
likely going to have verydifferent sensations and they
(10:42):
might be in completely differentparts of the body and you're
going to see in the guidedexercise when you access it.
There are some participantsthat share their experiences
after doing this guidedvisualization to identify your
green and red flag feelings, andtheir results were completely
different to the point where oneperson's green flag feeling was
(11:06):
another person's red flagfeeling.
And this is the thing.
There is no right or wrong.
This is about just tuning intoyou and what feels aligned for
you, because what feels alignedfor you might not feel aligned
for somebody else, and that'sokay.
This is all about getting toknow you and the language of
(11:27):
your nervous system and thelanguage of your intuition.
It is unique.
There is not another person whois going to have the exact same
language as you.
Now, here's the thing.
Oftentimes we've beenconditioned to not trust our own
language, to not trust our gutinstincts, to not trust what our
(11:50):
intuition is saying, especiallyif it goes against what general
society says, especially if,during our developmental years,
we were in situations where wewere surrounded by potentially
dysregulated adults, for onereason or another who did not
(12:10):
provide safe, accepting spacefor us to express our truth, to
explore our own intuitiveinstinct.
It's very common, especiallybecause social conditioning,
whether it be general society orculture or religion or all the
(12:33):
other aspects that contribute tosocial conditioning, can
program us to believe that weneed to think a certain way, do
a certain thing, be a certainway, even if it doesn't align
with what we actually want, whowe actually are and what our
instinct tells us.
And over time, especially inour developmental years, if we
(12:54):
keep getting the message overand over again that we're wrong,
we need to be fixed, there'ssomething wrong with us, that
that isn't accurate, that youshould just be quiet and do the
thing, even if we keep sayingthis doesn't feel good, after a
while you start to believe thatyou're the problem, that you
(13:15):
must be wrong, that you can'ttrust your instincts.
But really what's going on isconditioned programming from
society and dysregulated peoplehave led us to believe that our
own intuition is wrong, andsometimes it's part of the human
journey to have to go throughthis experience of losing
(13:40):
connection with ourself so thatat some point on our journey we
can decide to reconnect withourself.
I think this is a very commonhuman journey to take, and I
think for most of us, this isthe way it tends to go, and
especially for those of us whoare highly sensitive people,
right, especially if you've beengiven those messages in your
(14:03):
life you're too sensitive,you're overreacting, you're too
dramatic, you're too much andthese messages tend to come from
people who are projecting theirown stuff onto us.
I know for myself a lot ofthose messages came from adults
who did not feel comfortablewith their own sensitivity and,
(14:26):
because of that, me expressingmine scratched a wound that they
hadn't integrated yet.
Right, this is the shadow aspectof things.
Right, the things that youdon't integrate and accept and
make peace with within yourself.
When somebody else brings thatup or shines a light on that,
(14:49):
then it's going to feeltriggering.
I will talk about that inanother podcast episode.
But this is the thing, right, especially if we are connected
with our intuition, if we arehighly sensitive, if we're
expressing things that seem togo against maybe, what society
is saying, this can sometimesfeel triggering for somebody,
and what's typically happeningis it's triggering for them
(15:12):
because it's shining a light onsomething that they haven't come
to terms with or are not atpeace with within themselves,
and their triggered reaction isa projection of what's going on
within them, right?
I talked about this a littlebit in the people-pleasing
episode a little while back andI will touch upon it again in
(15:33):
the future.
This is such an important pieceof the puzzle to understand and
integrate, especially if you area highly sensitive person.
You are neurodivergent becausewe make up a small percentage of
the population.
Studies show, for example, thathighly sensitive people make up
approximately 20% of thepopulation, so that means 80% of
(15:56):
the population aren't, so theirnervous system and their brain
does not function exactly thesame as our own.
We're wired differently and, ofcourse, you know our instincts
are going to pick up on thingsdifferently.
We're going to process thingsdifferently and if we express
that and we aren't fullyconfident and connected within
(16:19):
ourselves, sometimes what weexpress and what we say might
trigger those people who thinkdifferently than us the 80%
especially who might not feel asconnected as we do.
The less confident we arewithin ourselves, then we're
going to allow the externalworld to convince us that our
(16:40):
gut instincts are incorrect.
But here's the thing we all haveaccess to intuition, every
single one of us, including you.
And so I say this because somany of us go searching
externally for the answers andgo look to other people to give
(17:01):
you the answers.
And go look to other people togive you the answers, but you
have all the answers withinyourself, but you might not
fully trust them, you might nothave the full perspective, you
might not fully understandyourself to a level that maybe
helps you to create andestablish an informed decision
(17:23):
or a fully informed decision.
And I mention this because, asI've been pivoting into more
intuitively led work, as I workwith ambitious, sensitive
entrepreneurs who are wanting touplevel their work and align
(17:43):
their work more with theirdeepest inner soul purpose, I
have been noticing that somepeople look to me to give them
the answer right, because I dohave this psychic ability, which
everybody does, but it's howconnected you are to it.
And the thing is is that mypsychic ability is not about
(18:05):
telling you what's going tohappen next Wednesday at 12 pm
or what business decision thatyou should make.
Even if I could see exactlywhat business decision that is
best for you to make.
I don't want to tell you thatpart.
I want to give you theperspectives and information
(18:25):
about all of your differentoptions so that you can make the
most aligned decision byconnecting to your own intuition
, and that's how you're going tomake the breakthrough that
feels most aligned for you.
Because even if I saw theanswer and I told you, if you
didn't come up with that answeron your own, it's likely not
(18:47):
going to land the same way, andI've seen that over and over
again.
Today's first training sessionout of the five that we're going
through this week is reallydialing in identifying your
green and red flag feelings.
This exercise on its own ishelpful.
However, the way I use it, it'sa base for so many other things
(19:13):
that you're going to use it for.
It's not a black or white thingwhere you go, okay.
So I'm thinking about thisoption or decision and it feels
like a red or a green flagfeeling.
This is the first level ofawareness, but there's more
levels of nuance to considerthan whether or not okay, if
(19:34):
that feels like a red flagfeeling, that I should avoid it
or move away from it, that mightvery well be the case.
However, there's going to bemore layers of nuance that I'm
going to talk about this week inthe future trainings that layer
on top of this base exercise ofgreen and red flag feelings,
(19:55):
and this exercise, like I said,is so important.
Every single one of my clientslearns about this, and what I've
decided to do is make this abase exercise that everybody in
my world, in my audience, hasfree access to, because I want
you to master this particularexercise before you start to
(20:19):
work with me.
If you do decide that you'dlike to work with me because it
really helps us move along thatmuch quicker if you've already
developed a good understandingof your own personal green and
red flag feelings because it'sgoing to be different than mine,
it's going to be different thaneveryone else, and the more and
(20:41):
more connected you are toyourself and your intuition and
how your intuition speaks to youand the language that it uses,
then the further we're going tobe able to go.
If you do decide to work withme and if you don't feel aligned
to work with me, this is goingto give you really important
(21:03):
information for yourself so thatyou can give yourself your own
intuitive breakthroughs, andthat's really the point of all
of this.
So, to summarize, today wastalking about establishing and
identifying and clarifying yourown green and red flag feelings,
and they're going to be uniqueto you.
(21:23):
Go and do the guidedvisualization.
The visualization itself, Ibelieve, is about 10 to 15
minutes.
It's not long, but it'simportant.
And if you've already done it,I highly suggest that you do it
again, because every time you dothis exercise you're going to
gain another level of awarenessfor yourself.
(21:44):
You're going to connect anotherlevel deeper, to connecting
with the somatic informationthrough which your intuition
speaks.
So, again, if you're justcoming across this podcast
episode and you haven't signedup for the free training series,
you can go to the show notesand sign up for the free
(22:05):
training series and when you do,you're going to get an email
with access to the video thatguides you through the green and
red flag feelings exercise.
And you're also going to get anemail once a day for five days
with links to each of therecorded lessons that are housed
here on the Inner Purposepodcast, as well as additional
(22:28):
thoughts and exercises in thoseemails, and you can keep those
forever.
So, if you're following alongwith this training series,
today's homework is to do thegreen and red flags exercise,
identify those green and redflag feelings for you, and
tomorrow we're going to comeback and I'm going to be
speaking more about the languageof your intuition and
(22:52):
understanding what's yourintuition, what's not your
intuition and how to tell thedifference.
And this is a really importantpiece to help you really
understand the nuances aboutyour intuition so that you can
connect with it, so that you cantrust it and so that you can
(23:13):
understand the messages it'sgiving you, so that you can get
your intuitive breakthrough, getyour own answers and get the
clarity to leap into the nextlevel of your business, of your
life, every aspect of yourself.
So I look forward to speakingto you again tomorrow.
