And we've got the game changer,or at least a potential game
changer, for carnival.
And good news.
If you are a fan of the loveboat, mark one was a love boat
(02:32):
on.
Was that early 80s, mid 80s?
Mark Faldmo (02:35):
no, I think it was
mid 70s.
Oh dear so yeah, I think it waslike 1977, isish.
Patrick Wiscombe (02:43):
Okay.
Well, if you are an olderlistener of the show, then you
will be happy to know that theLove Boat cast is getting back
together.
But first let's get to thetravel news headlines and let me
, just at the top of the showhere, let me give out the studio
and text number.
We want to answer your callsand take your questions during
(03:04):
the show 801-649-3700.
801-649-3700 if you have atravel related question, Mark,
let's start with the travel newsheadlines.
Tsa has unveiled a dedicatedfamily screening lane.
Mark Faldmo (03:22):
This, I think, is a
great idea.
I don't know why they didn'tthink of this earlier.
They're rolling this out rightnow at select airports where
there is a dedicated line thatis built for and they're able to
handle strollers, diaper bagsand everything else that comes
with people along with familiestraveling together.
I think it'll speed the processup for everybody.
(03:43):
Where there's a line that isdedicated to some of those more
specialty items is a great idea.
And right now it is in kind ofits test phases and they chose a
great airport for the testingof it and it's Orlando
International Airport, so whereyou get lots of families
traveling together, and theother one is Charlotte Airport,
(04:06):
charlotte Yep.
Soon they hope to be rollingthis out to Orange County,
Honolulu, Charleston,Jacksonville, providence, Rhode
Island, San Juan, Puerto Ricoand Tampa are the next airports
that will get this familyscreening lane.
And also another thing alongwith this, the TSA has announced
(04:28):
there is a family discount forpre-check oh really.
So the family can apply and itwould be $85 per person to get
pre-check instead of the $100 itcurrently costs now on an
individual basis.
Patrick Wiscombe (04:41):
So 15% off,
basically Correct.
Okay, Europe has set a new datefor its new border system.
This is the story that justwon't go away because Europe
can't pull its act together.
The ETIAS, which is ElectronicTravel Initiative Authorization
System, I think, is what thatstands for.
Mark Faldmo (05:01):
I'm real close to
it Anyway, they're tripling the
fee?
Patrick Wiscombe (05:03):
to what?
20 euro or euros?
Mark Faldmo (05:06):
yep, so that's
about no 27 almost 30 a person,
but it'll cost to get this newand basically it's an entry and
exit system.
Yeah, and so this does.
Finally, they have a date setOctober 12th.
That's just here.
In a few weeks, so if you'retraveling to Europe on October
(05:29):
12th or after, you will need touse this new entry and exit
system.
Patrick Wiscombe (05:34):
Walt Disney is
back from the dead Mark.
Did you see that headline?
I did see that.
Wow, Let us clarify.
There is an animatronic versionof Walt Disney, the founder of
Disney World, Disneyland.
He's going to be in theDisneyland attraction, which I
thought was great.
It's good to see Walt back, atleast in robotic form.
Mark Faldmo (05:55):
Yes, this actually
opened last week and that's
something for the 70thanniversary of Disneyland.
So it's in the Main StreetOpera House.
70th anniversary of Disneyland.
So it's in the Main StreetOpera House.
It shows Walt in his office andit goes through the history of
the animatronic figures.
The animatronic Walt is thepresenter.
Disney always comes up withinteresting things and I'm
(06:16):
actually surprised they haven'tdone this sooner.
In one of the stories I readthat they've been thinking about
doing this for 20 years, but itfinally came to fruition on the
70th anniversary of.
Patrick Wiscombe (06:27):
Disneyland.
So they were thinking aboutdoing it for the 50th
anniversary, which kind of wouldhave made more sense than 70.
You received was this a call ora text from James earlier.
Mark Faldmo (06:40):
It was actually
both, but the specific question
came by text.
Patrick Wiscombe (06:43):
Okay
801-649-3700 is the text number
to get a hold of the show.
He has booked a river cruisestarting in Budapest with Julie,
who is someone who works foryou in your office.
He wants to know if he shouldgo to Budapest a few days early
and where to stay.
(07:04):
Should he go a few days early?
Mark Faldmo (07:06):
The answer is yes,
I would go at least two days,
but probably three days earlyfor the river cruise.
There's lots of things to do inBudapest Now.
Usually river cruises do have atour included in Budapest, so
part of some of the sightseeingis already included.
But there's so much to see inBudapest I would go in a few
(07:26):
days before.
And as far as where to stay, myfavorite hotel in Budapest is
the Intercontinental Budapest.
It's right on the river, it'sacross from Castle Hill, so at
nighttime you see all thebuildings and monuments lit up.
There's a nice little kind ofboardwalk there with lots of
shops and restaurants.
I think on the show before I'vetold the story of me just
(07:48):
eating a bowl of goulash in asidewalk cafe, and it was behind
the Intercontinental Hotel.
Oh, just looking at the riverand looking at all of the
monuments Castle Hill, thechurch was all lit up right at
sunset time.
It was amazing.
I would suggest everybody dothat once in their life.
Patrick Wiscombe (08:05):
Okay, let me
paint the picture for you.
Mark has traveled literallyalmost 4 million miles.
If something takes his breathaway, it's probably pretty good.
Mark Faldmo (08:14):
Yes, it's good so
that Intercontinental Budapest
is where the first place I wouldlook at, and then there are two
others.
One is the Budapest Marriott.
It is also on the river, butit's a little bit further down.
I think the Intercontinentaljust has a prime location.
The Intercontinental is also ashort walk from a little square
(08:35):
which is called Erzbeth Park, which is just a pedestrianized
area with shops, restaurants, things to do.
There is a hotel I recommendthat's right in that Erzbeth
Park as well which is theKempinski Hotel.
Patrick Wiscombe (08:50):
Nice hotel.
Mark Faldmo (08:51):
It's a very nice
hotel.
These are all four and a halffive star hotels, nice hotel.
One interesting thing aboutthat Erzbeth Park there is a
Michael Jackson Memorial.
There it's a tree and everyyear at the anniversary of
Michael Jackson's death it getsdecorated with pictures and
(09:11):
memories and all of that and thereason was is because Budapest,
I think, was one of the lastconcerts that Michael Jackson
played and every time he was inBudapest he did stay at that
Kempinski Hotel right in thepark.
Patrick Wiscombe (09:27):
Don't they
have a room in there
specifically for him?
It's called the Teehee Suite.
Mark Faldmo (09:32):
I think they do yes
.
Patrick Wiscombe (09:33):
Yeah, what are
some of the things that you
like to do when you're there?
Mark Faldmo (09:38):
If you're into
architecture, Budapest is a
great place.
Oh yeah, when talking aboutarchitecture, the Budapest
Parliament is an architecturemarvel.
It was built in 1885, and it'sthe largest Gothic building in
the world.
You can just walk around it orthere are tours inside.
I've taken the tour a few timesand it is amazing inside the
(10:00):
building as well.
The next place I would visit isBuddha Hill, and this is
something that often the rivercruises will include, but on
Buddha Hill it kind of overlooksthe city.
You have a great view ofParliament.
It's on the opposite side of theriver as Parliament there's
Fisherman's Bastion, st MatthiasChurch, which we've talked
about a few times on this show.
(10:21):
It was a Christian church andthen when the Turks ruled it, it
was a mosque.
The thing that's nice aboutthis you know a lot of the Turks
and Muslims.
They don't like the ornate, andso a lot of the churches.
They just destroyed all of thatornateness, but I guess they
were a little bit lazy and theyjust covered a lot of it up.
So when Christians took thechurch back over and they took
(10:43):
the walls down, they foundhidden rooms that were not
destroyed.
So it has some really earlyChristian architecture in it
Gothic Christian architecture, and that's also another good
place that I've had someHungarian goulash.
That's how we bridge the show.
Patrick Wiscombe (11:05):
Everything
isged with food, with things to
do.
Mark Faldmo (11:08):
Yeah, there's so
many great food things around
the world and we've actually gotanother one we'll talk about a
little bit later, relating toBudapest.
Another monument that is worthvisiting, and this is near the
parliament.
It's called shoes on the Danube.
Oh yeah, and it's a tribute tothe Jews that were in Hungary
(11:29):
and were taken away to theconcentration camps.
It is a really kind of movingmemorial called Shoes on the
Danube.
Budapest has an amazing old townJewish quarter that's kind of
been renovated.
I've gone and walked throughthose streets.
It is one of the most amazingJewish corridors in the world
(11:49):
that you can visit.
The Great Market Hall oh yeah, definitely worth a visit.
It's a fish market and produceand food on the lower level.
The upper level is souvenirs.
And then one of my favoritethings I've done all around the
world cooking classes are alwaysgreat to do, oh yeah, but in
Budapest I did a strudel cookingclass and it's called stretch
(12:10):
strudel, and so you get thisdough and everyone gets around
the table and stretches it outand then they fill it up and
roll it and make it.
You make your own strudel.
Strudel is one of the gooddesserts in that area of the
world.
Patrick Wiscombe (12:23):
Austria.
If someone doesn't know whatstrudel is, how would you
explain it?
Mark Faldmo (12:27):
So strudel is a
pastry with fruit in the middle,
usually apple strudel, and soyou roll it up and it's like a
big log.
You cook it and then slice itup, put some powdered sugar on
it and eat it kind of like a pie.
Well, I can get behind that.
Patrick Wiscombe (12:41):
Yeah, apple
pie I'm okay with.
Yes.
Okay now if someone doesn'tknow what goulash is, what is
goulash?
Mark Faldmo (12:48):
because you've
referenced it a couple times now
goulash is a stew usually madewith pork or beef.
It has lots of paprika in itand it's probably my favorite
type of super stew in the wholeworld.
I love goulash.
It has potatoes and carrots.
Oh, there we go.
It's a lot like stew we havehere, but it's heavy and paprika
Before we go to break.
Patrick Wiscombe (13:09):
If you love
trains, take advantage of this.
This is on the Canyon Spirit, which is formerly Rocky
Mountaineer Hot travel deal ofthe week.
What do we have for listenersthis week, mark?
Mark Faldmo (13:18):
This is the route
that goes between Denver and
Moab.
Patrick Wiscombe (13:21):
Oh, you did
this a year ago, literally a
year ago.
Mark Faldmo (13:24):
So right now
they're having on their Silver
Leaf Plus service.
They are giving complimentaryupgrades to that service, which
is a value of about $600 perperson.
What that gets you is yourtraditional seats on the rail
route, but then they have SilverLeaf Plus only a viewing car
and a lounge car where you cango sit and play cards and watch
(13:47):
things.
They have people that tellstories in there.
So it's kind of an upgradedexclusive like lounge access
type thing that you can get onthat canyon spirit train.
And this is only on theirservice that goes between Denver
and Moab.
Just, I think last week theydid just start bringing that
train all the way to salt lake.
Oh, they did.
But this is only on the two-dayservice, not the three-day
(14:11):
service.
Patrick Wiscombe (14:11):
Okay, all
right, so this is Denver to Moab
, or to Moab, yeah, the oppositedirection yeah, and you have to
book that by august 12th.
Mark Faldmo (14:19):
Okay, and it's
another thing.
I highly endorse it.
I'm strange because I lovetrains so much, but it was a
fabulous train through theRockies and then down through on
that southern Utah area yeah, you loved it.
Patrick Wiscombe (14:33):
Take advantage
of the hot travel deal of the
week the Canyon Spirit, formerlyRocky Mountaineer.
Call Mark 888-718-7717,888-718-7717.
And he'll also post thisinformation on

is reuniting and we've got aNorwegian Coastal Voyages save
up to $3,000.
This is a very, verysignificant savings, not only
from a monetary standpoint.
But who you're going with?
This is Hurtigruten.
That is next.

Here's Patrick Wiscombe andMark Faldmo Ahoy mate's.
Patrick Wiscombe (17:12):
You are
listening to the Inside Travel
Talk podcast, a radio show.
This is the infamous JustCruising segment.
This is the part of the showthat has made us famous around
the country and hopefully aroundthe world, but certainly here
in America, coming up in thissegment of the show.
We've got the cruise deal ofthe week and we've got a special
(17:35):
deal for Hurtigruten listenerson .
This is a promotion that you'llonly hear on this show.
We'll get to that here in justa second.
But let's get to the cruisenews headlines and the cruise
news mark.
Where do you want to start here?
Should we go Norwegian?
yeah, let's start there withNorwegian okay, so Norwegian
(17:56):
cruise line will be featuringsome special things for the 2027
season.
Didn't they just announce this?
Was it earlier this week orlate last week?
I don't remember.
Mark Faldmo (18:06):
It was late last
week.
It's actually their deploymentfor spring and summer of 2027.
Its's interesting how far outI've actually seen some cruise
lines already announced 2028deployments.
The best time to get in on acruise if you're looking for
price in the most amenities isto book right when the
(18:27):
deployments are put out.
So if you're looking to cruisein 2027, want to go on Norwegian
, now is the time to go and whatthey've announced they have
over 500 voyages across their 20ships and they're really
emphasizing the seven-dayvoyages and weekend departures.
Some other cruise lines havegone to more of the longer
(18:49):
cruises but Norwegian is kind ofreally trying to stick more to
that seven-day voyage and alsohighlight their private island
destinations of Great StirrupCay and Harvest Cay, which is in
Belize.
Patrick Wiscombe (19:02):
Have you seen
that announcement from Norwegian
?
It was some massiveconstruction going on on Great
Stirrup Cay, which is theirprivate island.
They're finally, finally, finally going to put in a pier
private island.
They're finally, finally, finally going to put in a pier.
They're also going to put in akind of a beach club where the
pool is just going to beenormous.
Mark Faldmo (19:22):
Yeah, it'll be the
I think, the largest swimming
pool in the world is what Iheard, something like that.
It'll be a huge swimming pooland then also a water park
they're putting in at GreatStirrup Key.
Patrick Wiscombe (19:35):
It's funny
that you're in the middle of the
ocean, literally on an islandcalled Great Stirrup Key.
How many miles off the coastare you?
60, 70 miles, something likethat, from off the coast of
Miami About, approximately.
It was so strange that whenNikki and I were there and we
were vacationing this was themonth of April that we just
lived on four cruises back toback to back to back.
(19:56):
That the last day before wecame home we were sitting on the
beach and you could hearconstruction like big heavy
equipment and it was kind offunny to like.
We're in the middle of theocean and we're hearing
construction going on.
Mark Faldmo (20:11):
It was just kind of
funny.
Another thing that Norwegianannounced is they're really
trying to incorporate moreovernights.
So, in this deployment they'llvisit over 150 ports across 59
countries and in that they'llhave 170 overnight stays in
destinations like Istanbul andReykjavik.
We talk about their Hawaiiitinerary that has a couple of
(20:34):
overnights in it, and they'realso expanding to eight ships in
Europe.
That again will mostly do sevenday itineraries, to begin and
end on the weekends, which willallow guests to experience
supports a little bit more.
Patrick Wiscombe (20:48):
They got to
pay for those ships.
They do the Aqua Prima, all ofthem Yep.
The best time period Across theboard.
No last minute cruise deals.
Get on the list to be notified.
When these new deployments fromall of the cruise companies,
that is the best time to bookyour cruise period.
(21:08):
It's not even close.
It definitely is A game changerfor Carnival.
This is there.
Is this Celebration Key?
This is Celebration Key.
This could be very, veryinteresting.
Mark Faldmo (21:20):
This is a new
private beach destination for
Carnival, and Carnival reallyhasn't been into the private
island thing.
No, they've kind of laggedbehind other cruise lines and so
this is a beach destination.
It's on Grand Bahama Island.
Patrick Wiscombe (21:36):
Which I
thought was interesting, because
it's not technically, it's nota private island.
Mark Faldmo (21:41):
No, it's not, and
they're terming it as a private
beach destination.
So Carnival has invested $600million in phase one of this new
project and it's on 68 acres ofland on the south side of Grand
Bahama.
It has freshwater lagoons, family areas, adult areas,
(22:01):
10-story water slide that'sshaped like a sandcastle.
So they've really put a lot ofthought into this and eventually
they're going to expand at anadditional 154 acres and the
pier will have capacity for twocruise ships at a time.
It's open now?
Right, I think it is.
It is yeah, it opened about 10days ago.
Patrick Wiscombe (22:25):
Okay, that's
what I thought.
The Love Boat If you're a fanof the 70s TV show the Love Boat
, the cast is going to reuniteon a themed cruise aboard Regal
Princess.
What are the details and how?
Mark Faldmo (22:40):
can people book
that Probably through you?
Yeah, they can book it throughme and also per our earlier
conversation.
The Love Boat ran from 1977 to1987.
Patrick Wiscombe (22:49):
Okay, so I'm
not crazy.
It was, you're not crazy tothink early eighties, okay, all
right.
Mark Faldmo (22:53):
So this Love Boat
Reunion cruise they just
announced it and it's forNovember 16th of this year, so
just a few months away, and itsails from Galveston.
It will have several of theoriginal cast members, kind of
the main highlight will beCynthia Tooze, who was Julie
McCoy, the cruise director, andthe other kind of headlining was
(23:16):
not a regular person on thelove boat, but Sharo oh wait,
she's still alive.
She is, I guess, yep, and soshe'll be the main one.
But other characters will be onthere Vicky Steuben, gopher
will be on there, Isaac will beon there oh man, I loved Isaac,
he was hilarious.
(23:36):
And so it's a seven-day cruise,again from Galveston, November
16th.
For being a specialty cruiselike this, the prices are pretty
good.
An inside cabin starts at $608and a balcony cabin starts at
$839.
Oh, wow, its ports are Cozumelwith an overnight, so two full
(23:56):
days in Cozumel, and then RoatanIsland with three days at sea.
Patrick Wiscombe (24:01):
Gavin McLeod
will not be making an appearance
.
Mark Faldmo (24:04):
He will not,
unfortunately.
Patrick Wiscombe (24:05):
No, that's too
bad.
Mark Faldmo (24:07):
I have been on four
cruises with the cast of the
Love Boat and they're pretty funto do.
Patrick Wiscombe (24:13):
Wait, hold on.
Mark Faldmo (24:13):
You've seen the
cast that many times, all of the
inaugural cruises they invite alot of the cast back, so I've
seen a lot of performances anddifferent things that the cast
does.
Nowadays it's more of a meetand greet because they're all
getting fairly old, but it's funto see those.
That's one thing I like aboutPrincess Cruises.
(24:34):
They always on the TV have theLove Boat channel that just
plays the Love Boat episodes.
Patrick Wiscombe (24:39):
When they
leave the port they always play
the Love Boat theme on theship's horn.
Ship's horn.
Mark Faldmo (24:45):
yeah, which is
their ship horn?
Patrick Wiscombe (24:48):
Cruise deal of
the week.
If you want to save significantmoney with Hurtigruten, we'll
make this the cruise deal of theweek.
If you want to saveHurtigruten money with , we'll
make this the cruise deal of theweek.
What details do we have?
I'm assuming it's Norway.
Mark Faldmo (24:59):
Yeah, it's Norway
and you know Hurtigruten talked
about in the past.
I think it's a great product, agreat way to explore coastal
Norway, and this is one of thecompanies I met with a few weeks
ago.
And we're talking about gtm,the global Travel Marketplace.
I've known about them but I hada really good chat with one of
the vice presidents there atHurtigruten Just made me more
(25:21):
excited for this product andI've actually had a couple of
requests for Hurtigruten.
Hurtigruten actually has twodifferent products.
One is their original Voyage, which is actually used for
locals and mail.
So they're contracted by thegovernment to do a 12-day round
trip that delivers mail andlocals can use it as a ferry.
They also have a signatureVoyage, which is more like a
(25:44):
cruise, but it still has lots oflittle stops on there, and
right now Hurtigruten isoffering up to $3,000 off their
original Coastal Express.
So this is the one thatoperates like a ferry kind of.
It's a 12-day round trip fromBergen.
Bergen's beautiful and it doesstop at places in the middle of
(26:05):
the night, but what you miss onthe way up you get on the way
back during daytime hours, andso you do get to see all of that
it has 34 different ports in 12days.
Patrick Wiscombe (26:19):
Whoa.
Mark Faldmo (26:20):
They run shore
excursions where you might get
off at one port but get on theship in another port, because
some of the stops are as shortas 10 minutes oh, really quick
To as long as four hours, butthey have a really good program
to get you out to see thedifferent things and back to
connect with the ship.
This deal is up to $3,000 onselect sailings.
(26:43):
Most of these are fall sailings, so it'd be a good time, if the
