I guess it depends on the hotel.
We're going to tell ourlisteners how you can save up to
$550 when you book a Hawaii orMexico vacation.
We'll give you the details herein this opening segment.
We'll give you the details herein this opening segment.
There's no secret that mark andI are fans of msc cruises and
(02:31):
we have a repositioning cruisedesigned to help our listeners
specifically save up to 1300.
Plus, we're going to help youget a 200 onboard credit.
And the latest craze incruising, Mark Faldmo as you
make your way into the studiopole-to-pole cruises.
I like this idea.
Mark Faldmo (02:50):
Yeah, this is a
pretty interesting itinerary.
I'm excited to talk about it.
Patrick Wiscome (02:54):
But first,
before we get to the hot travel
deal of the week which is Hawaiiand Mexico, and helping our
listeners save up to $550, let'sstart with the travel news
headlines and helping ourlisteners save up to $550.
Let's start with the travelnews headlines.
Mark Faldmo (03:09):
We love traveling
by train Demand for rail travel
is picking up steam.
No pun intended.
Yeah, this is quite a big jumpyear to year.
So companies that put togetherrail packages have seen a 35%
jump year over year for 2025bookings.
I've actually had more railthis year than ever, so really I
have seen this demand as well.
And then you know, looking into2026, there's been a 51 percent
(03:33):
increase in demand for railbookings.
Looking here, kind of justlocally, in the US, Amtrak
vacations reported a 15 percentincrease in the Amtrak vacation
bookings, so there is a hugedemand.
This way of slow travel is agreat way to see the world.
Last week I told you aboutsomeone I was booking to
(03:54):
Scandinavia and they opted toget from Stockholm to Oslo by
train, which is six hours, andthen Oslo to Bergen, which is
seven hours, and they could haveflown that, even with all the
airport experience, in likethree hours.
They said, no, we just want towatch the world go by.
We've talked about myexperience on the Rocky
Mountaineer from Denver to Moab, which was fantastic, and with
(04:18):
this demand, there's a wholebunch of new rail products
opening.
Patrick Wiscome (04:22):
What kind of
rail products are now available?
Mark Faldmo (04:26):
Just this year,
because of the demand, the
Orient Express added their LaDoce Vita, Orient Express.
Patrick Wiscome (04:32):
Oh, that's
right, we talked about that last
week's show.
Mark Faldmo (04:35):
This is a train in
Italy between Venice, Portofino
and Rome.
It's a two-night luxury train.
Another one that we've talkedabout in the past is the
Britannic Explorer train, whichis Southern England and Wales,
and this one is also a luxurytrain like the Orient Express.
And then there's a company outthere called Golden Eagle.
(04:56):
They do trains all over theworld but they've had such
demand for Asia, they'veintroduced a new train called
the Golden Eagle Silk RoadExpress and they have
itineraries like from Ho ChiMinh City to Shanghai, which is
14 days, again on a luxury train.
They have the Grand Silk Road, which is Beijing clear up into
(05:17):
Mongolia, which is 22 days.
They have Imperial China, whichis Xi'an to Hong kong, which is
12 days.
So they've added these new Asiaroutes which, as I look at
these itineraries, I somedaywant to be able to go on those.
I'd love to go on that 22 daygrand silk road, oh yeah,
(05:38):
because it goes in to countriesthat people wouldn't even think
about.
It goes into Turkmenistan,Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, it's
clear from Beijing all the wayover into that area.
Patrick Wiscome (05:49):
Oh yeah, I
would do that in a second.
Mark Faldmo (05:52):
I didn't even know
that that was available, so I'm
glad you're bringing it up, yeah, so rail journeys, whether
short or long, whether they'rethe sightseeing trains like the
Rocky Mountaineer whichovernight in hotels, whether
they're the sleeper trains, Ithink that slower mode of travel
just to sit back, relax andenjoy the world as it goes by is
(06:13):
a great way to travel.
Patrick Wiscome (06:13):
I would have
never thought of going to
Tajikistan ever.
That block of Islamic countriesnot necessarily on my to-do
list, but if I can jump on atrain and go, oh yeah and get
off at stops and go absolutelyI'm doing it.
Mark Faldmo (06:25):
Yeah, just the
route this takes is quite
interesting.
Patrick Wiscome (06:29):
I saw a story
that airport technology is
saving, or will save, travelersup to 30 minutes and could
reduce stress.
I know that you and I have TSApre-check, we have global entry,
but I tell you, the mostchaotic part of going to the
airport is just going throughsecurity.
If you are not ready for it andif you don't have your stuff
(06:50):
ready to go, that can be a very, very stressful situation for
anybody.
Mark Faldmo (06:55):
Yeah, it is so.
With this technology, airportsare making that a lot easier.
So this survey.
I'm not sure who did thissurvey year, so this survey.
I'm not sure who did thissurvey, but they asked 12,000
travelers about airporttechnology.
44% of US travelers said thatthe new airport technology has
reduced their travel stresslevels 78% rate.
(07:15):
Fast track security is the bestairport technology improvement,
followed by the digitalboarding pass.
Patrick Wiscome (07:22):
Oh, I didn't
even think about that one.
Yeah, you're right.
Mark Faldmo (07:24):
I saw a story the
other day from the TSA that they
are at some airports.
They're rolling out a touchlesssecurity which is what we
experience with the pre-check towhere you just walk up and it
takes a picture of you, comparesyour photo with your ID, that
pops up on the screen and thenyou just go through security and
they said this saves an extra15 seconds per person.
(07:49):
Oh well, that adds up quick, sothat adds up.
So it takes it all the way downto eight seconds once you step
in front of the TSA person toget through, and before that it
was almost 30 seconds.
And they are starting to rollthat out into the general
security lines as well.
This is where the real ID comesin the gold star.
(08:10):
That's how the system is allconnected together.
Patrick Wiscome (08:14):
I have a
question for you Are five-star
hotels worth it?
I think they are, but you foundsomething, or at least six
reasons that they might not beworth the extra cost.
Mark Faldmo (08:27):
I get asked this
question a lot the places like
Hawaii, Mexico.
I really only now recommendfour stars and above Right.
But then I've always prefacedthat with you know, sometimes
there's a really good three star, three and a half star that I
really like.
That I will recommend.
It kind of works the same wayfour to five star In order to
get the five stars.
A lot of the main differencesare the size of the hotel, the
(08:51):
number of pools, the size of thespa In order to get up to that
five star rating.
You could have a four starhotel that has just as nice
rooms but has one pool anddoesn't have 15 pools like some
of the five-star hotels.
Most of these I agree with Oneis quality over quantity, and we
kind of just talked about that.
You can get some four starsthat are much less expensive
(09:15):
that have the same quality.
They may not just have thequantity of things.
Reason number two and I thinkthis one is big personally with
the way I travel is is it aboutique?
A lot of boutique hotels don'tget that five star rating
because they're small and theyjust can't offer all the
services that a lot of theprofessional reviewers need to
(09:35):
get that five star.
Personally, I would choose afour star or even a three star
boutique hotel in most casesover most five-star resorts.
I like the small boutiquehotels.
Personally I do too.
Another thing, and we've alsotalked about this there's not a
premium price tag, so thefive-stars charge more, but then
(09:56):
the four-stars don't offer asmany amenities, so they can have
lower room rates, and so, again, quality might be similar or
the same to a five-star.
And this is one I really agreewith Five-star versus four-star
in big cities.
So let's look at San Franciscoor New York.
In those cities are you goingto go to swim in the pool that
(10:17):
they have?
Probably not.
A lot of those things they'veadded to get their five-star
most people don't even use inbig cities like New York or San
Francisco.
So again, you might want tosave the money because you're
not even going to use thoseamenities.
Patrick Wiscome (10:34):
Let's get to
the hot travel deal of the week,
and this week we are going toHawaii and Mexico and we are
going to help our listeners saveup to $550 on Hawaii and Mexico
vacation packages.
What have you put together forlisteners this week?
Mark Faldmo (10:49):
First of all, this
save up to $550.
In order to get this, you haveto travel after January 1st of
2026 and pay in full at the timeof reservation, and it's a
tiered discount based on thetotal cost of the trip.
The lower the cost, the lowerthe discount.
And then there still is a tierof this.
If you want to travel in 2025,it's not quite as big of a
(11:11):
discount.
It's $200 off.
So if you want that largerdiscount, it's travel after
January 1st of 2026.
For this, I did look forNovember dates and so it's using
that lower discount.
Yeah, the 200.
Because the fall dates arepricing out better than January
dates right now.
So this is using the smallerdiscount.
(11:33):
But I mainly wanted to point out, for the first time since the
Maui fires, I found a vacationin Maui for under $1,000 per
person Wow, including round tripairfare and five nights hotel
from Salt Lake City.
So where are we staying?
Aston Kaanapali Shores Hotel.
It's on the beach.
It's a great location?
Oh, yeah, it is.
And that price starts at $979per person, including airfare,
(11:58):
including airfare from Salt LakeCity.
So Maui has been so expensive, but it's come down in price.
Oh, it sure has.
All the other hotels are, orall the other islands are,
similar in price.
Honolulu is below $1,000.
Kauai and the Big Island arejust above $1,000 a person.
(12:20):
But all pretty good prices.
Patrick Wiscome (12:22):
So Hawaii
basically just put it at $1,000
per person five nights hotel, and that includes the airfare
Phenomenal, especially Maui.
Let's go to Mexico.
What about Puerto Vallarta?
Mark Faldmo (12:34):
Yep.
So in Puerto Vallarta, stayingat the four-star Villa del
Palmer, which is anall-inclusive resort, that one
starts at $929 per person, againfor airfare, all-inclusive
hotel for five nights and yourtransfers between the airport
and the hotel.
There's some really good pricesout there with this promotion.
Patrick Wiscome (12:54):
So that's
Western Mexico.
What about Cancun?
Eastern Mexico?
Mark Faldmo (12:58):
In Cancun the
prices are a little bit more.
The Blue Bay Grand Esmeraldaagain five nights hotel,
roundtrip airfare and transfersbetween the airport and hotel
starts at $1119 per person.
Hawaii and Puerto Vallarta arethe two best bets as far as
price goes for travel the firsttwo weeks of November of this
year.
Patrick Wiscome (13:18):
Save up to $200
for the remaining 2025 season,
meaning between now, august 16th, through the end of the year.
And then what if people want totake advantage of that higher
tiered saving that save up to$550 on Hawaii and Mexico, but
they want to travel after thefirst year?
Should they just call you to dothat?
Mark Faldmo (13:42):
Just call me and we
can get those prices.
You know, now is a great timeto start planning those warm
weather getaways.
Especially during winterEspecially during winter.
Patrick Wiscome (13:47):
Yeah, it's just
kind of hard to think about
winter when it's when it's beenso hot.
Yes, so you have to rememberthat it is going to get cold at
some point.
Yeah, call mark in his office, get the conversation started, no

Patrick Wiscome (16:21):
Here's Patrick
Wiscombe and Mark Faldmo ahoy
(16:45):
there, mateys, you are listeningto the inside travel talk
podcast, a radio show.
Hello, there, I am PatrickWiscombe, alongside Mark Faldmo.
It is time to talk cruising.
This is the infamous JustCruising segment, this segment
of the show that has made uspopular here in the United
(17:06):
States and around the world, where we only talk about the
cruise news and we talk aboutthe cruise deals that we have
for our listeners, and these areonly available to our listeners
.
You ready to do this, mark?
Let's go.
Let's get to the Cruise Newsheadlines.
(17:28):
Royal Caribbean this soundslike something that Hulk Hogan
rest in peace that he would havebeen part of Royal Caribbean is
enforcing.
It sounds like something fromWWE enforcing the drink package
rule you can only have onemargarita, yep.
Mark Faldmo (17:47):
No, so this is
actually something a little bit
different on the rule.
So what Royal Caribbean'spolicy is?
Every adult of legal age, ifone person buys the deluxe
beverage package, then everyonehas to buy the deluxe beverage
package that is in that cabin.
That is in that cabin, yes andso.
Patrick Wiscome (18:09):
I get it.
Mark Faldmo (18:10):
They used to give
an exception if you had a
medical exception, because thereare a lot of times medically
some people can't drink alcoholand they would just get the
lower cost soda package Right.
But now people like I guessstupid people do took advantage
of that and posted online andsaid I just called and got a
medical exception.
(18:30):
Oh no, I don't have a medicalexception, but they gave it to
me, so now we don't have to dothat and so Let me guess they
were drunk.
Patrick Wiscome (18:38):
What they
called?
Mark Faldmo (18:39):
Probably.
Yeah, and posted somethingRoyal Caribbean just saw too
many posts about how to skip outon having to have everybody
purchase that, and so they justsaid it's being taken advantage
of.
So we are changing our policy.
So now we're holding everybodyto that, whether you drink or
not.
Patrick Wiscome (18:56):
Viking is
opening bookings this is crazy
to me For the 2027-2028 oceanand expedition voyages.
That's a long time for now, butwhen you look at Viking,
everything, or almost everything, is sold out, even for 2026.
Mark Faldmo (19:13):
It's getting tight
for 2026.
So best time to book a cruiseis when they first launch the
itinerary.
Patrick Wiscome (19:20):
So now's that
time, or at least in.
Mark Faldmo (19:21):
Viking's case.
Yeah, at least for Viking.
A lot of times, if the pricegoes down, you can book it, but
most of the time the prices arecreeping up.
Now is the best time In thisdeployment.
Viking has introduced a newexpedition cruise, and this one
is in the Arctic Circle.
Has introduced a new expeditioncruise, and this one is in the
(19:42):
Arctic Circle.
This cruise expedition cruise, offers a rare opportunity to
cross the 66 degree southlatitude and actually go into
the Arctic Circle.
So that's something that's alittle bit unique that Viking is
releasing within thisdeployment.
Patrick Wiscome (19:56):
Sounds like I'd
have to break out my Marino
wool pants for this one.
Yes, yeah, how fun Would you dothat?
I would.
I would do that.
Yes, that's awesome.
Along the same lines, mark.
Let's tell our listeners how togo pole to pole with Seaborn
over 94 days.
This would be so interesting.
(20:17):
North pole, south pole A lot offun.
Mark Faldmo (20:19):
This is North to
South and it's on Seabourn which
is a luxury yacht they'resmaller ships.
They hold, oh, about 200 peopleor so.
I'd have to look up this shipexactly but they have introduced
a 94-day pole-to-pole grandexpedition.
This starts in Greenland andends in Ushuaia in Argentina.
(20:42):
From Greenland it goes all theway up into the Northwest
Passage Territory to CambridgeBay in Northern Canada, and then
it comes down, does a coupleEast Coast US, some Caribbean
islands, and then down the EastCoast of South America and then
down into Antarctica, beforegoing back up and ending in
(21:04):
Buenos Aires.
Patrick Wiscome (21:05):
I forget how
far south the South Pole is.
I always kind of think that theworld ends in Argentina.
I forget that there's a wholeother world below that.
Mark Faldmo (21:14):
Yeah, this ship
does have a submarine on it, so
they do take some shallowsubmarine dives in these
different ecosystems.
Patrick Wiscome (21:24):
Oh yeah, and
OceanGate is not the provider on
that one.
Mark Faldmo (21:28):
Correct.
Yeah, they have kayaks on board.
By going on this, you did get acustomized polar jacket as one
of the perks to go on this, although you will be crossing
the equator in some warmterritories, but you also get
stuff to keep you warm whenyou're in the colder areas.
Patrick Wiscome (21:44):
Talk about
packing for all weather
situations in the span of threemonths.
Yes, you go from freezing coldto just melting hot.
Back to cold.
Mark Faldmo (21:56):
Yeah, by is august
18th of 2027.
For the 94 day, you can do ashortened version, 82 day
sailing, which I think that onejust doesn't do.
The northwest passage part ofthat, however, that would be the
part I would want to go forexactly that, that northwest
passage part.
Patrick Wiscome (22:13):
So you're
cutting your vacation short by
12 days 94 to 82.
Yeah, Just go for the 94.
Mark Faldmo (22:22):
Yeah.
Patrick Wiscome (22:23):
It is time for
the cruise deal of the week.
Part of the infamous justcruising segment.
This is MSC's grand voyage saleand we are helping you, our
listeners, to save up to $1,300off cruises and up to a $200
onboard credit.
Mark Faldmo (22:40):
So they're all
repositioning cruises when
they're trying to move theirships into new areas.
I've come up with three ofthese grand voyages that I think
are fabulous and they're all ata great price.
The first cruise is from Genoa,in Italy, to Miami.
It has stops in Marseille,Barcelona, las Palmas, san Juan,
(23:01):
Puerto Rico, St Thomas, Miamiand, I'm sorry, this one
actually ends in Port Canaveral.
So 17 days departing, this yearNovember 19th, so you'll be on
the cruise ship overThanksgiving.
An inside cabin starts at $615per person for 17 days.
That is Balcony cabin.
(23:21):
Wow yeah, and a balcony cabinstarts at $15 per person what
ship is this on msc?
Patrick Wiscome (23:29):
this is on the
Grandiosa so we have your
built-in excuse right here onthe show.
I'm sorry, can't make it family.
I'll be in Italy and I'll becrossing the ocean.
Yeah, what was a balcony onthat?
Again, 10 1,015.
For 17 days, wow, okay, allright, let's go on to the next
one.
Mark Faldmo (23:49):
The next one is
again the same date, November
19th, and this is Rotterdam inthe Netherlands, cruising to
Martinique in the Caribbean, because MSC does have a ship for
a lot of their European gueststhat begins and ends in
Martinique.
This one sails Rotterdam toSouthampton in England, le Havre
(24:09):
in France, Ponte Delgada,Bridgetown, Barbados, Antigua,
Rousseau, and then ends in FortFrance in Martinique.
That's a lot of port days for arepositioning cruise, and this
one is not quite as well-priced,but it's still a good price.
So an inside cabin for 17 daysstarts at $814 and a balcony
cabin starts at $1,294 perperson.
Patrick Wiscome (24:32):
So MSC, what
ship?
Mark Faldmo (24:34):
is that one that is
on the MSC Virtuosa?
Okay.
Patrick Wiscome (24:38):
And then the
last one is this a how long is
this last one?
Yeah?
Mark Faldmo (24:42):
this is a longer
cruise.
This one is 21 days, and thisis South America to Europe.
So it starts in Santos, brazil, and ends in Venice, Italy.
Patrick Wiscome (24:54):
Okay, so we're
going kind of south to northeast
South to north.
Mark Faldmo (24:58):
Yeah, so this one.
You'll cross the equator onship, which is usually always a
production.
You get a certificate sayingthat you crossed the equator and
its ports are.
You stop in Mandela, which is asmall island kind of off the
coast of Morocco, and then itgoes to Las Palmas, and then it
(25:18):
goes to Tangier, which is aninteresting stop, and then
Barcelona, Rome, Messina inSicily, Valletta, Malta one of
my favorite stops Split inCroatia, and then Ends in Venice
.
Ooh, that's a good one too,this is March 15th of 2026.
The inside price starts at$1,603 per person and the
(25:39):
balcony is $2,343 per person.
Patrick Wiscome (25:43):
Okay, this is
MSC Cruises.
What ship is this?
Mark Faldmo (25:46):
one on this is on
the MSC Harmonia.
On these sailings you'll get upto $1,300 off and the onboard
credit of up to $200.
And that onboard credit and thediscount is based on which
cabin category you choose.
So it's lower for insides, higher for balconies and suites.
Patrick Wiscome (26:08):
That is
phenomenal.
Take advantage of those offers.
Wow Cruise deals of the weekFrom MSC Cruises save up to
$1,300 off on theserepositioning cruises.
