Alcoholism is a powerful subject. As the backdrop for movies like "A Star is Born", "Leaving Las Vegas", and "Barfly", it is apparent that alcoholism can make for vivid storytelling.
Alcoholics Anonymous is an organization that has saved the lives of millions of addicts by helping them to get and stay sober. "Bill W and Dr. Bob" is a renowned play coming to Chicago that captures on stage the very start of AA – as two alcoholics come together to support each other and then offer that support out into the world for all others who want to get sober.
On this episode of It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee, actor and director Ronnie Marmo joins host Rikki Lee Travolta to discuss what is expected to be a big hit in Chicago: "Bill W. and Dr. Bob." The show opens March 7 and is playing at the Biograph Theater in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
In addition, on his nights off, Ronnie is also appearing in the smash hit “I’m Not a Comedian….I’m Lenny Bruce” under the direction of Joe Mantegna. The two must-see plays are running in repertoire at the Biograph Theater.
It’s a fascinating episode with lots of great insights into the torments of addiction, the saving grace of AA, and the brilliance of entertainment.
Ronnie Marmo has a lot of interesting things to discuss about bringing these two hit shows to Chicago – so be sure to listen.

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
