As September is Suicide Awareness Month, it is extremely fitting that we release this powerful episode with Angelo Martinez @barracks_legend who is a United States Marine Combat Veteran, who served in Fallujah and other area’s where he lost several fellow Marines due to fighting for our County.
There were never any debriefs or down time to grief with his fellow Marines as the mission had priority. In addition, Angelo never sought out any therapy
Angelo shared how during that time in the early 2000’s, if a Marine stated, “I’m sad, I’m depressed, or I’m lonely”, you are automatically labeled as a “pussy”.
Angelo continued to share his story how he made the decision to ultimately die by suicide while on a broken futon couch. Listen in to the episode and hear how Anglo combatted this decision and is able to share his story as it benefits others.
Angelo was introduced to Irreverent Warriors, an amazing non profit bringing Veteran’s together using humor and camaraderie to prevent Veteran suicide and improve mental health. They host hikes all over the Country bringing Veteran’s together. Angelo talks about Irreverent Warriors and how it benefits our Veteran community. Please check them out as we are doing whatever we can to attend one of their hikes with our fellow service members. @irreverentwarriors
Thank you to Angelo for sharing his story and feeling comfortable doing so. Angelo is available to be contacted if you wish to speak with him. Contact us via DM and we’ll get you connected if you would like to speak with him.
