English: In this week's episode of Jevas Combativas, we speak with Rev. Rhina Ramos, a lesbian Salvadoran lawyer and pastor of the Spanish-speaking LGBTQ-inclusive United Church of Christ place of worship, Ministerio Latino. Here are some ways she believes people who have left the Chrisitan church because of their progressive politics can reconcile their faith with social justice.
1. Understand that the Christian faith is tied to social justice. Jesus calls on us to “do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly.”
2. Don't beat yourself up or depart from your spirituality because of who you love, how you identify or things you've done. Throughout the Bible, we are reminded that we were made perfect and that we are special as we are.
3. Learn to distinguish the church, which is made up of humans who are susceptible to error and hate, from God.
4. If conservatives use their interpretation of scripture to influence politics, don't be afraid to make what God has commanded of us -- to show compassion, seek justice and serve the oppressed -- political as well.
5. Seek out a faith-based community that will accept you wholly. We exist, and we grow bigger every day.
