Episode 57: When Plans Don’t Go to Plan – Embracing Change, Growth, and Self-Celebration Release Date: 8 January 2025

In this episode, we explore the journey of embracing change and growth when life doesn’t go according to plan. While setting goals and intentions is important, we often forget to celebrate the milestones along the way.

At 14 years old, I had big dreams and intentions, but the road was far from smooth. Despite hardships, consistent action became my anchor. Plans don’t always unfold perfectly, and life often throws unexpected challenges our way.

I left home at 17, finished my HSC, and felt alone, avoiding judgment and criticism from peers while struggling to see a clear path forward.

  • I began working in aged care nursing and later pursued university studies at 23.

  • During this time, I faced anxiety, depression, and indecision—social work, psychology, or nursing?

  • As an assistant nurse in aged care, I encountered workplace bullying, a common reaction when others resist change.

  • At Avondale University, I joined the Student Team (ANSA) as Public Relations Officer, Secretary, and Treasurer. We supported students' mental health and created meaningful social connections.

  • Despite my efforts, I was often told I was "too slow" and "too nice."

  • Eventually, I sought help from a psychologist and started antidepressants.

  • Life's challenges forced me to shift my goals and dreams.

  • Adapting to different seasons in life builds resilience and problem-solving skills.

  • When life gives you lemons, how do you respond?

  • Health struggles, midlife crises, and unexpected obstacles are inevitable.

  • Uncertainty requires us to balance flexibility with purpose.

  • What are your 1–2 core goals?

  • What is their purpose?

  • Who are they for?

  • Are they meaningful and enjoyable?

  • Is it a win-win for everyone involved?

  • Self-reliance and independence are crucial.

  • Are you following the "recipe for growth"—sunlight, soil, water?

  • Flexibility paired with certainty creates sustainable progress.

  • Compare who you were with who you are becoming.

  • I used to lack confidence and struggled to express myself.

  • Over time, serving and contributing to others became more important than fear of judgment.

  • Our struggles add depth and character to our story.

  • How do you adapt to change?

  • Do you know your worth?

  • Do you feel safe in your journey?

  • Are you committed to starting and finishing what you set out to do?

  • What promises are you keeping to yourself?

  • What advice would you give your past self from five years ago?

  • What advice do you need to hear today?

  • Who are the five people closest to you, and how do they support your growth?

  • How do you celebrate your achievements?

Tune in to this episode for a heartfelt conversation about navigating life’s unpredictability, building resilience, and honouring your growth through self-celebration.
