Episode 59 Finding Myself: A Journey from Fear to Self-Acceptance
Recorded 22/1/25
Finding ourselves and our journey after hiding from fear, failure, success, and being different.
Self-acceptance is an important topic that needs to be discussed more often.
I used to act out and run away from things and relationships. The labels of being fostered out, running away, OCD, ADHD at the core, all I wanted was to be accepted.
Later on, I struggled with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and became fully dissociated from myself. I constantly thought there was something wrong with me my mind, my body, my entire being. This destroyed my self-worth and reinforced my belief in my own failure.
I attracted relationships, friends, and colleagues who disrespected me. I was a people pleaser, a "goodie two-shoes." The naughty girl inside me was unseen and unheard. The good girl was also unseen and unheard. I was stuck in a fear response, unable to love and accept myself.
Did you have labels growing up? Did you act out in your childhood? What does self-acceptance mean to you? How do you begin the journey of loving and accepting who you are?
What are the fears, anxieties, or worries that you need to calm? What surfaces when you allow yourself to accept uncomfortable thoughts and emotions?
There is a universal human desire to feel loved and accepted. But what happens if you don’t fit the mould?
What happens if you don’t fit the mould?
Fear of failure?
Fear of success?
Are you up to scratch?
Are you quick enough? Good enough?
Do you need more time and nurturing?
Is speaking kindly to yourself important for your learning, rather than criticism?
Self-care became my foundation.
For years, my focus was solely on education, training, and work. But it came at a cost my mental health, physical health, and relationships.
I assist in inner child work. Domestic violence affects how people see themselves and how they attract relationships. Healing takes time, and grieving is part of that process.
What can you commit to within yourself?
Changing our tonality, eye-gazing exercises for couples, and expressing three things we appreciate about each other can deepen connections. Communication is key.
Take three seconds before entering your home breathe, go to the gym, sing in the car. These small actions make you a better person and prevent you from taking out stress on loved ones.
Building routines around self-care creates patience and consistency. Celebrate progress along the way whether it’s five minutes of alone time, affirmations, or an ice bath.
You are worthy of love and acceptance just as you are.
Reflect: How did you begin to accept yourself? What is one more step you can take today?
It’s about the journey. When you embrace self-acceptance, you give others permission to do the same.
Share this with someone who may need it. If it resonated with you, pass it on.
