Speaker 2 (00:37):
Hello, gorgeous,
welcome to season three of
Leading Her Way podcasts.
It has been a time that I gotto re-up work on some new things
I'm coming out with which I'mso happy about.
I am working on a new programfor iconic wedding pros or
iconic entrepreneurs like you,and I get to come back for our
(01:01):
make or how to make money series.
Now I've been really grapplingwith this how to make money
question and I had a lot ofthoughts about it, and when I
have thoughts, I want to shareit because I know my audience is
actually struggling with this.
(01:22):
I know there are entrepreneursin the industry of the wedding
event, world coaching, consultsall of the people who are
providing a service who isconstantly trying to figure out
the biggest question how to makemoney.
And the reason we're trying tofigure this out is because it is
the fuel for our mission.
(01:45):
It is the fuel for the thingthat we love, and how to make
money is one of those questionsthat we constantly think.
We have to do some things tomake money, and I want to go
through that first.
So let's define what you and Imay think making money is all
(02:07):
about.
One do you think making moneymeans working harder, working
harder, having to go out thereand sweat and get greased up,
and when you do something likethat, when you're up 12, 15
hours a day, at the end of theday do you go man, I worked so
(02:30):
hard, I'm going to make all thismoney now.
Do you find yourself in thatposition?
There were moments in my pastwhere I used to be up working 12
in the morning one in themorning, literally and waking up
like six in the morning sevenbecause I had young kids and I
thought I did a lot for the day.
(02:51):
I thought that was the grind.
Being in the grind right, doingall things, doing 80%
actionable steps and onlygetting like 20% results was the
way I thought.
Working harder meant I wouldmake millions, and I don't know
(03:11):
about you, but that was not thecase and I'm going to share that
was not the case.
Working harder does not equalmaking money, and I'm going to
say that because the word harderis only defined by you and what
you think it means.
Harder for you may be hard, different for me.
However, working smarter Nowthat's something and we'll talk
(03:35):
about that later.
Another way that we entrepreneurentrepreneurs think we make
money is by charging a low price, because if we charge a low
price, everyone's going to wantit right.
All of a sudden, I'm going tocharge a low price, everybody's
going to want this because it'scheap and I'm going to make more
(03:58):
money.
And here's the thing when youcharge low prices, you bring
this amazing person who oneloves to negotiate, will always
negotiate your low price.
Your low price might be so lowand they will negotiate lower
because they need thatnegotiation win-win situation.
They need to know that I got itlower and it makes them feel
(04:21):
good.
Right, it's about them, it'snot about you.
You don't need to survive, youdon't need to eat, it's about me
.
So charging those lower pricesallow you to attract more
clientele like that.
And if you get more clientelelike that, guess where you end
up?
The entrepreneur, the personcreating value or supposed to be
(04:42):
.
You end up overwhelmed.
Creating value or supposed tobe, you end up overwhelmed,
burned out, exhausted,underappreciated, frustrated.
Am I hitting a chord?
Because I surely know I didwhen I was in those stages.
And we think that is how youmake money.
We also think that money ismade when we do more, give more,
(05:09):
package more rather than anexperience.
We believe, if I take thisoffer, aka package.
Cram every bonus in it.
Cram every bonus in it.
They're going to pick me.
They want to work with me,although their experience even
(05:30):
starting to initiate aconversation with you was like
whacked out, like nothing worked.
Links were broken, it took alot to get to send this message
to you and then, when I send itto you, I didn't even know if
you got it because there wasnothing coming back.
Okay, but you send them a nicefive page brochure with all your
(05:52):
services because that's how youmake money.
No, it's not Sorry to pop yourbubble, it's not Now.
I say all of this because guesswho was in that position?
I was.
Guess who was right there withyou when she started out in 2009
(06:14):
?
Really, I don't even know when,because that was a blur 2011
had my first child, so I didn'thave but so many years to start
my first child.
So I didn't have but so manyyears to start.
And when I started out, I didall of that, working hard 12
hours a day.
I wasn't sleeping, right, I hada baby.
They don't sleep, so I didn'tsleep.
(06:35):
So guess what I can do whenthey were up, I can work on
assembling invitations because Iwas an invitation designer and
I was doing it in-house and itfelt so glamorous to say that.
But what I didn't know was whatI was doing was a waste of
effort and time.
(06:55):
Saying things were donein-house made it seem like I was
saving money, just to chargethe lowest price possible.
And let me tell you how painfulthat was To charge a fee, get
paid and still have no money tocontribute to my household.
To charge a fee and get paidjust to pay the cost of the
(07:20):
materials.
Okay, let me tell you, workingharder does not mean making more
money.
I used to charge $1,000 for 100invitations and the reason I
charge that is because I didn'teven understand the value I was
giving.
Because I didn't understandwhat value was.
(07:40):
In my mind.
I was selling a piece of paper.
That was a product, and thepeople who wanted to pay cheap
exactly thought I was sellingpapers.
So they was like I'm notspending so much for a piece of
paper that will be thrown away.
Have you ever heard that, especially if you're an
invitation stationary Helloflower company.
(08:03):
Did you hear stuff like thisbefore?
Right, people always tellingyou I'm not going to pay this
because, anyway, at the end ofthe night, it's going to be
thrown away.
They didn't understand theexperience because they were so
caught up in the numbers.
They didn't understand whatthey were giving to the people
they were inviting, just like Ididn't understand, when I was
(08:26):
selling it to them, theexperience I was giving, the
perfectionism I had, that I wasgiving the wanting to get it
right I was giving and trust me,to the person who wanted the
cheapest item.
They didn't care about any ofthat.
All they cared about isspending cheap and negotiating
(08:47):
cheap.
However, there is something thatshifted in me and I want to
share with you my three C's thething that literally took me
from this $1,000 invitation toselling it for $15,000.
Yes, it for $15,000.
(09:13):
Yes, how to make money, let'sgo.
I want to share this story withyou because I want you to
understand all the beliefs youmay be carrying may not be
serving you.
It's about the value you give.
I could sell the same item thatwas $1,000 for $15,000.
Why?
How did you make up $14,000worth of products or value or
bonuses and I didn't?
(09:33):
I just got really good at mythree C's.
Now I started out in 2019shifting and I went to a weekend
retreat.
And when I went to this retreat, where I got to sit in this
space listen to anotherinvitation designer who was
doing $10,000 deals and I wasdoing 1000 and this beautiful
(09:57):
human being was hardly doinganything.
She wasn't up at night.
She was able to hang out withher family on the weekends.
She was networking,collaborating.
She found a company that wasproducing for her.
She was making more money thanI was doing nothing like I was
doing.
Yes, she sat with a client.
Yes, she designed, had aconcept, had someone else draw
(10:19):
it up for her and then she gotit ready to go out in the mail
and then she sent it.
It was just that simple for herand me work out in the mail and
then she sent it.
It was just that simple for herand me work hard in the key
shit.
That's how we do it.
I was raised to work harder.
Right, I was doing threedesigns.
They'll pick the worst one.
I don't know why I gave it tothem.
Don't ask me.
And I would sit home, fightwith my prints, lose envelopes
(10:44):
and expense.
That was unnecessary, assembleeverything, because you know
what?
I'm?
An in-house designer.
That's a fly title.
In-house designer means I workhard.
You're going to see me sweatbecause this is what I do.
This is what I love doing.
I don't love doing that Someoneelse does and that is kudos to
them, but me no.
(11:04):
But that's what I made thisstory about.
So when I went to this seminarand I saw this amazing person
doing this of course in thatmoment she wasn't amazing I was
very mad how dare you do, howdare you make this look easy and
make more money than me and I'msweating bullets and getting
paid nothing.
But I was so grateful for herbecause she ignited the fire in
(11:27):
me and I was able to come backand I got to work.
I started to work smarter, notharder, and I also was in
communities that taught me aboutmindset shifts from that budget
friendly to valuable not evenaffordable, but just valuable.
(11:48):
It's still affordable becauseit's who we're speaking to being
in the right room.
So when I was in thesecommunities there I gained
clarity, clarity Say it with meClarity when you join a
community like mine.
I have one called IconicWedding Pros, because I love my
(12:08):
wedding professionals.
They're amazing.
In that community, we literallyhelp people shift their
perspective, and that's what Ihad.
I was in communities wherepeople were showing me things
that I didn't even think waspossible.
Million dollar events, right, what does that look like?
What does that look like?
What does it look like to havethat engagement with someone who
(12:30):
wants to spend a milliondollars on their event?
What does it look like whenthey wanna spend a million but
only have 50, 100 guests?
It looks so good.
If you don't know, check me out, I'll tell you.
What does it look like to workwith people who are in that
caliber?
No, everyone is not mean andnasty as they show you on
(12:51):
television or people converseabout.
There are human beings who havehigh net worth, who are still
loving and pleasurable andamazing, just like you and me,
people who will speak to youwith respect.
Listen, don't believe the hype.
Don't believe all the storiesyou hear, because those stories
(13:12):
minimize your growth and guesswho's losing out?
You are, while the person who'stelling the story, who
experienced that, didn't loseout.
They're just putting things outthere, kind of persuading
people not to step into theirworld.
Don't let someone else's storydictate your possibilities.
Okay, second and second C wasconfidence.
(13:36):
Oh, yes, confidence.
When I had to transition, transform into this new business
owner, I had to know that whatI was providing I've been doing
for years.
It was not new.
I had to learn how to listen totheir pain point and
(13:58):
confidently say I can fix thatfor you and here's how I'm going
to fix it, because I fixed itfor so many other clients of
mine and if you're starting out,you fix so many other
challenges, maybe not in yourbusiness but surely in your life
.
So you do have that expertise.
You are not new.
Get rid of that new energy.
(14:20):
That new energy is the energythat holds so many people back
from showing up the way they'remeant to be.
So my second C is confidence.
Yes, going in back straight upand doing what you're meant to
do.
Third C is my favorite.
(14:40):
I love my third C Collaboration.
When I transitioned from 1K to15K, it was because I started to
speak to wedding planners.
I started to see how I couldcreate a win-win relationship
with them so I could be ofservice to them.
I could take everything I knewhow to do, make it quicker for
(15:01):
them, become part of their unitand let them look good with the
personal, customized invitations.
But I also saw the human inthem.
I started to love on them.
I started to appreciate them.
I started to speak to them.
I started to enjoy theircompany.
I still do.
I didn't collaborate just formoney transfer.
(15:24):
I collaborated because thehuman that I was working with I
truly appreciated transfer.
I collaborated because thehuman that I was working with I
truly appreciated.
I love who they are, I love howthey speak, I love what they do
.
I love how they do theirbusiness.
Collaboration is something morethan a transaction.
It literally is caring aboutsomeone, respecting them and
wanting to help them, becauseyou want to help them rise and
(15:45):
you want to do it together.
Want to help them rise and youwant to do it together.
How to make money is not aboutworking harder, is not about low
prices.
It's not about bonuses andstuffing as much as you can.
It's about your three seeds.
It's about your clarity, yourconfidence and your
(16:06):
collaboration.
It is about doing the thingsthat will help you grow.
I'm telling you right now thatI love what I do and there is no
other way I could be where I amtoday without my three C's.
(16:28):
So I'm going to take you onthis wonderful season three
series how to make money.
We're going to talk about money, and it's not a negative thing.
It's not something that's.
If it is, you don't belong here.

a paycheck not even a paycheck.
