Anxiety strikes at the most unexpected moments, even when everything seems perfect on the surface. That's exactly what happened to me recently—business thriving, marriage solid, health good—yet there I was, feeling uncharacteristically anxious for days. My immediate response? Desperately searching for the cause so I could eliminate it quickly.

This reflexive resistance to uncomfortable emotions is something most of us do. We reach for quick fixes—a glass of wine, online shopping, social media scrolling—anything to escape the discomfort. But as I reminded myself during that anxious period, "whatever we resist persists." Those emotions we try to banish only stick to us more stubbornly, like Velcro to our consciousness.

The breakthrough came when I shifted from chasing happiness to pursuing clarity instead. Rather than fighting against anxiety, I allowed it to exist, acknowledging its temporary nature. As Martha Beck wisely advises, "Get out of your head and into your hands." Simple physical activities—reorganizing a drawer, sorting through old makeup, arranging clothes by color—can pull us out of the tyranny of anxious thoughts. These mundane tasks become powerful tools for breaking anxiety's grip by redirecting our attention to something tangible and present.

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
Recently, for a couple of days,I felt horribly anxious, not
entirely out of the blue.
I had some stuff that happeneda couple of weeks before that,
but it was unusual.

(00:20):
It was unlike me.
Business is going well, mymarriage is good, my friends are
great, health is good.
I kept thinking why do I feelthis way?
Why do I feel this way, Tryingto pin it on something, explain
it away and remove it quickly.
And then I reminded myself thatwhatever we resist persists,
whatever it is that we're tryingto get rid of, that we don't

(00:43):
want, that we're thinking I wantyou to go away, me alone, leave
me alone.
It just sticks to us likevelcro.
So I think to myself what if Ijust allow this feeling of
anxiety?
I don't know when it's going tobe over, I don't know exactly
how I'm going to feel latertoday.
Tomorrow I could feel this way, tomorrow I could feel a
different way.
But wise, that wise part of medoes know that all things pass.

(01:08):
Good things, less good things,it's all temporary.
And so I thought to myself inthat moment, when I was having
this reckoning, you know, partof me thought oh my gosh, a
glass of wine might fix this, ormaybe I don't know.
Maybe I should buy somethingonline that I wanted, maybe,
maybe, maybe I know we chasethose cheap little things that

(01:28):
can feel like pleasure, that canfeel like peace, but they're
not.
They're a very cheap substitute.
What I told myself, what Ireminded myself of in that
moment, was, of course, yes, this feeling, this emotion, this
place where I am right now,it's temporary.
I need to.
Instead of chasing happiness, instead of chasing a feeling of

(01:52):
lightness, of feeling better, ofjoy.
It felt too out of reach.
I thought to myself, what I canchase instead in this moment is
thinking clearly, thinkingclearly.
My friends, we have to helpourselves, because sometimes
another person can't soothe us.
Sometimes the external thingsthat we can do to maybe feel a
bit better, they're not theright action, and we know it.

(02:14):
So, instead of chasing feelinggood, instead of chasing cheap
happiness, what if, in themoments where we feel low, low
mood maybe it's anxiety, like Iwas experiencing you say instead
, instead of chasing a high, I'mjust going to chase, thinking
clearly, knowing that this willpass, knowing this is temporary,

(02:37):
knowing that at some point inthe future maybe it's tomorrow,
maybe it's in a week, I am goingto feel better.
When we do that, we dropresistance.
When we do that, we're not inthis place, of which our anxiety
will have us believe this isgoing to last forever.
This is just how it is.
Now I need to start worryingabout X, x, y Z, x, z, x, x, y Z

(02:59):
.
It's how it feels in our brainsometimes, am I right?
And then I took a fantasticpiece of advice from the one and
only Martha Beck, who's been onthe podcast now a couple of
times.
Definitely check out herinterviews.
She says when you're feelinganxious, get out of your head
and get into your hands.
It's the last thing we want todo, because I know when I feel
anxious, the last thing I wantto do is even pick up a

(03:21):
self-help book or watch aYouTube video that I know will
uplift me.
But I can go to the kitchen andrearrange a few things.
I can maybe look in my makeupbag and clear out a couple of
old items.
I can look in my closet andeven just passively, slowly, not
with any real intention orfervor, start organizing.
Put more similar colorstogether.

(03:43):
Just do something that takesyou out of the tyranny of your
mind.
My friends, when we don't feelgood, helping ourselves is the
only thing that works.
Yes, we can seek support fromothers, and we must in certain
cases, but what if it's us?
I say often we are our ownsafety net and we don't need to

(04:05):
feel good in order to have agood life.
Life is full of the entirespectrum of emotions and there
is a place for each of them.
And the next time that maybeyou don't feel like yourself,
you don't feel so good for areason that you don't even
understand, instead of chasingfeeling good now, can you just

(04:26):
chase thinking clearly, theclarity of mind that lets you
know that this too is temporary, until tomorrow, my friends, so
much love and ease.
Hey friend, I've got somethingreally cool for you.
