Feeling overwhelmed by the constant pressure to buy more, upgrade more, and have more? This episode challenges the consumption mindset that dominates our culture and offers a refreshing alternative: finding joy in what you already possess.

We dive deep into the art of rediscovery – those forgotten books on your shelf, clothes pushed to the back of your closet, online courses you paid for but never completed, and even ingredients languishing in your pantry. Each represents not just a possession, but an opportunity for joy that requires no additional spending.

The concept might sound simple, but it represents a profound shift in thinking. When we purchase things only to let them gather dust, we violate what I call "the law of use" – nothing is created merely to provide a temporary dopamine hit at the point of purchase. By redirecting our attention from acquisition to appreciation, we can find immediate satisfaction while honoring our past choices.

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

  • Leave a review of this podcast.
  • Email a screenshot of your review to info@susie-moore.com

Simple as that!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
Let's talk about a way that youcan start to feel a little
better, no matter how you feelalready, but how you can feel a
little bit better right now.

(00:22):
It's very simple.
I love to do this.
I actually have to remindmyself to do this, because we're
not really encouraged to dowhat it is I'm about to tell you
to do.
Okay, we definitely, for sure.
I think I can't imagine anyonewould refute this.
We live in an age of consumption.

(00:42):
It's buying more, having more,more.
More more is better.
Everything bigger, everythingnewer, everything flashier.
But what if, even though we'rebombarded with advertising,
we're bombarded with whateverybody else is doing?
We're constantly seeing ourneed for upgrades in every area
of our lives?
What if we decided, at leastfor today, at least for this

(01:05):
week, maybe even at least forthis month, we don't need more,
nothing, we don't need more.
And one way that you canimplement this to start to feel
better now and even to have funright now, exactly where you are
with what you have is to usewhat you have.

(01:27):
I can't tell you how many timesI've had to actually physically
move, move locations, moveapartments, move cities, move
countries to remember how much Ihave, the accessories that are
tucked away, the stuff that Idon't see, the stuff at the back
of the kitchen cupboards like,oh I forgot I had this nice
little crystal that was a gift, doesn't this?
I mean, when you think about it, what you've already

(01:49):
accumulated and acquired in yourlife, even if it doesn't feel
like a lot compared to otherpeople.
I would say, from my ownexperience, most of us have more
than we think.
So, instead of jumping topurchase something which I know
is an easy way to get a quickdopamine hit, an easy way to
feel a bit better, what if youuse what you have?

(02:11):
Here are some examples Booksyou already have on your shelf.
Read them, reread them.
I can't tell you how many memesI see about people who buy
books and they're like they'repiling up and I'll get to them
one day.
And then we keep purchasingmore and more.
Read what you have, read what'son the shelf.

(02:32):
I bet you're a book lover ifyou like this podcast, and there
are some books on your shelf onyour Kindle, on your iPad.
However, you consume in youraudio book library that you
haven't consumed yet.
You simply haven't.
But of course, that ego, thatpart of us that wants more, more
, more, is like oh, I need a newbook.
Oh, I need to go check outAmazon.
I need, I need what?

(02:53):
If you have your next perfectread already, you just need to
remind yourself that it's there.
It's the same thing when itgoes to, when it comes to
clothes wearing what you alreadyhave.
Look, I know this one's tricky, because it's very exciting to
get a new outfit, but reallyimagine someone brand new comes

(03:14):
to your home and is goingthrough your rack, is going
through your sweaters, is goingthrough your shorts, your summer
dresses.
I'm sure you've got some coolitems that if you saw them in a
store right now, you'd go oh, Ineed that, I want that.
That's cute.
But it's so easy for us toforget what it is we already
possess.
What if you just went throughyour closet and you found a few

(03:34):
things that you could wear incompletely fresh ways?
It feels almost new.
People might even comment on it.
You're like oh, I forgot I hadthis green top.
Oh, I forgot I had this pair ofshoes.
Oh, I forgot about this belt, Iforgot about this bag.
I forgot about jewelry too.
Wear what you have read whatyou have, wear what you have.
And when it comes to evensomething like wanting to

(03:57):
sharpen your skills in a certainarea, I am so thrilled and
grateful.
We live in this age of onlineeducation, where so much is
available to us and we get toreally have a university in our
living room.
We have access to so much, somany incredible teachers and
courses and programs andmemberships.
But before you even dive intoanother one, is there one that

(04:19):
you've not logged into yet?
Do you have a course, maybesome form of membership, access
to something that you'vepurchased that you've never
logged into?
Or maybe you haven't loggedinto in a year or more?
And, ooh, that information'spretty great.
It is just waiting for you, begging you, saying come this
way, look this way, don't lookover there, don't look over

(04:41):
there, come on home.
You've got me, let's begin.
I've done this.
I did this recently with a,with a YouTube program that I
joined.
It was a group coaching programand I forgot I've got access to
so much incredible content.
Yes, I can continue to learnand I always want new and fresh
material, but I already havesome of the best teaching out

(05:03):
there that I've already paid for.
What about you?
This is how you can feel goodnow without spending a dollar.
This is how you can feel goodnow by using what you have, and
if we possess things and wedon't use them, it violates the
law of use.
Nothing is created to just sitthere and gather dust.
Nothing exists just for atemporary moment of pleasure at

(05:26):
the point of purchase, only justto be tossed to the back of
your closet.
Where can you use what you have?
Also, go through your pantry.
I was given some really fancyolive oil a flavored olive oil
at an event once and I waslooking for something else and I
was like oh, why have I neverused this?
This could inspire a whole new, simple dinner that I could cook

(05:50):
.
