Richard Cameron is a very complex character in Dead Poets Society. The discourse I've been seeing online is that he is an overtly a villainous character. But that doesn't sit right with me. The biggest question to ask is he an actual villain or just a product of environment? This also made me realize that we as viewers say we want more realistic and complex characters but when we get them it causes us to recoil. So why don't we want complex characters?
