Speaker 1 (00:01):
You ever feel like you are the only one that is
experiencing failure or certainthings within your business, or
maybe you look at other peopleand you wonder how they keep
going and they keep having agreat attitude about things.
Well, during this episode, I'mgoing to talk to you about some

(00:21):
mindset shifts that are going tohelp you successfully
transition from employee toentrepreneur and CEO in your
business.
You, you, you.

(01:25):
Welcome back to another episodeof the Operations Toolbox
Podcast, the show thatsolopreneurs turned to to learn
more about the fundamental tools, systems and structure needed
to confidently run a sustainablebusiness without feeling like
they are always overworked andoverwhelmed.

(01:47):
I'm your host, tanya D Harrison, and again in this episode,
we'll explore three crucialmindset shifts to help you make
a successful transition frombeing an employee to becoming a
thriving entrepreneur and CEO.
Whether you are already on thepath or you are thinking about

(02:10):
it, these mindset shifts willset you up for success.
So I really want to make sureI'm Mention this while I'm
talking about three.
There are so many that you aregoing to Experience or have
experienced if you're already onthis journey.

(02:31):
What I'm doing is Sharing thethree that I feel that have had
the most and biggest Impact onme and my business.
I Mean, out of all of the onesthat I could have Experience.

(02:52):
These three are the ones thathave propelled me to my next
level and these three are theones that have kept me going for
six plus years being anentrepreneur.
The first mindset shift is Isstop waiting to be told.

(03:12):
That is the biggest one when Iam working with solo Prenuers.
You know, especially those ofus are that were newer in
business, because this wasreally Something that I had to
learn early on in business.
Right, we have to stop waitingto be told.

(03:33):
As an employee, you often relyon clear instructions or a
Supervisors guidance or a jobdescription.
There's something that givesyou an idea about what you
should be doing, so you have aclue.
Even at a leadership role, youstill have a job description.

(03:54):
You know I'm responsible forthese departments of this team
or what have you.
So you have some idea of whatyou should be doing and what
success looks like.
But when you come out and youstep into this journey of being
a business owner and owning yourown business, it's totally

(04:15):
different.
Right, you're not handed thisblueprint that says do this this
way to achieve these results.
It just doesn't work that way.
You're not even handedsomething that says these are
your Responsibilities, these arewhat you should, the things
that you should be focused on.
That is just not somethingthat's readily available.

(04:38):
So once we start to make thattransition, you find yourself
sitting at your desk wonderingwhat do I need to do?
And Then what happens is we gofrom zero to a hundred.
We go from doing nothing todoing all of the things.
I mean just like everythingright.
So that is one of the thebiggest shifts I had to make.

(05:03):
I Don't have this blueprint.
I need to develop it myself, right?
That's why I believe I Knoweveryone doesn't.
I believe that business planswork Because it gives you an
idea of what you need to belooking at and the research that
you need to do, and it itreally becomes your blueprint.

(05:23):
And I'm not talking about theyou know, 100-page business plan
.
They have the lean ones thatyou could use, but it gives you
different things that you needto focus on.
But what I want to impress uponyou is that you can't wait for
somebody to tell you and youcan't go by Everything that you

(05:47):
see on social media.
So you have to learn how to bereally discerning when it comes
to where do you go and who doyou listen to.
It's not like back in corporateor when you're on your job.
You have a question, you go andyou ask your boss yeah, you are

(06:09):
the boss.
So that was one of the biggestmindset shifts I had to adjust.
So you are it, you look to youand then you start to develop
your circle.
But that's mindset shift numberone.
The second mindset shift, andwhoo, this is another one.

(06:33):
That was really big.
You have to learn how torephrase Failure and you have to
learn how to leverage failure.
Now, don't nobody like failure,right?
So in corporate, failure wasoften seen as a negative outcome
.
Like, oh, you failed, you didyou, you, you did bad, you

(06:57):
didn't meet your numbers, youdidn't get the job, you know you
didn't do something.
It was looked at in a negativeway as an entrepreneur.
It's an opportunity to learnand grow Like.
It is the total opposite.
Every time you fail it puts youcloser to the success that
you're looking for, because youlearn something and you grow

(07:21):
through that.
So you have to learn how tolook at failures differently.
I remember first starting out inbusiness and even now, right,
because I don't meet everysingle objective that I put
forth.
But when I first started out,you know Whether it's putting a
webinar out or whatever the casemay be and you have two people

(07:43):
sign up or maybe nobody buysthis thing and it was like, oh
my goodness you, you feel likesuch a failure and you think
that you are the only one thatis experiencing this.
And I can tell you 100 with100% certainty that number one
you're not the only one.
And number two, you havesomething that you can learn

(08:08):
from that.
Even if it's a matter of, hey,I need to learn how to better
position myself, or Maybe I'mpresenting this to the wrong
people, whatever the case may be, there's always something to
learn and to grow from it.
So when you are an entrepreneurand when you are on this journey

(08:29):
as a business owner, you startto understand that setbacks are
a natural part of the journey.
It's like just as natural asbreathing.
They are a natural part of thejourney.
They are going to happen toeverybody.
You're going to have setbacks, but you have to develop
resilience and you have to learnfrom your mistakes and you have

(08:53):
to be able to turn thosefailures into stepping stones
Forward, so you have to growthrough them.
That is a mindset shift.
Number two, and I I'll say, outof the three, that was the
hardest for me, out of the threethat I'm sharing, number two
learning how to rephrase andleverage failure was the hardest

(09:19):
because my entire life I havebeen taught that failure was bad
, right and, and most of us,when we fail, we don't like to
to share it with people and wedon't like to fail in front of
people.
It's like, oh, my goodness, what are people going to think,
what are people going to say?
And all of these things.

(09:39):
And the reality of it is isthere's a lot of us that are
Going through the same thing.
That's why we talk about thisin my savvy operations society,
membership In the society.
We talk about these things andwe talk about how we can grow
through them and how we can comeback, become better and is
there something that we couldhave done differently so that we

(10:01):
can apply it the next time?
So we're always looking foropportunities To learn and to
grow through the failure.
And one thing that I've learnedis the quicker you fail, the
quicker you can get to success.
So you can't hold on and say Idon't want to do something
because I'm afraid to fail Right, because that puts you further

(10:22):
away from the success thatyou're looking for, because
failure is inevitable.
There's going to be things thatwill not turn out the way you
want them to turn out, but it'san opportunity to learn and to
grow.
So, for me, this is the biggestmindset shift that I had to
make and I constantly, constantly remind myself of this

(10:44):
.
All right, mindset shift numberthree you have to develop a CEO
and business mindset again.
You're no longer an employee, you, you're no longer employing,
so no one's telling you what todo.
You have to be able to call theshots your CEO, because you're

(11:08):
not an employee.
You don't have a CEO that'sdictating your vision and
determining your mission andyour values and putting the
strategy in place to determinethe journey or the path for the
organization.
You are it.

(11:29):
You are it.
So you have to determine thevision, the mission, the core
values and the strategy that youare going to use to accomplish
the bigger picture, the goals, short term and long term.
So you have to take charge ofthis, because you are the

(11:52):
beginning and the end, so youhave to develop a mindset that
allows you to do this andcreating the vision is really
great, but it's the beginning,right.
So once I have the vision, Iknow the direction.
Hey, here's where I want totake the organization Now you

(12:15):
have to put.
This is where putting yourbusiness mindset comes into
place.
Now you have to put the strategyand the tactics in place in
order to help you accomplish thevision.
I'm pushing my organization inthe direction that I want it to
go, and it is going to requireme to be all up in my numbers.

(12:37):
I know a lot of us are like Idon't like numbers.
All up in your numbers, understanding what works, what
doesn't work, who your customeris, what they like, what they
don't like, where they are likeall of these things are you,
whereas when you're an employee, they are defined by somebody

(12:58):
else, and it's that CEO'sresponsibility to set forth what
we need to do.
They need to say where are wegoing, how are we going to get
there, and all of that.
But now you are it, you are theCEO.
So I would encourage you toembrace that, to really embrace

(13:19):
it, and the biggest thing thatyou can do is to start planning.
Planning needs to become a partof your everyday life, set your
vision, set your goals, putyour plan in place, start
tracking your numbers and makeadjustments as you need.

(13:40):
So those, those are the three, just to summarize the three
mindset shifts.
Number one stop waiting to betold.
Number two learn how torephrase and leverage failure,
which was my biggest aha.
And number three develop a CEOand business mindset.

(14:01):
I encourage you to embracethese shifts when you are
starting out or if you'realready on the journey, and let
me know what your biggestmindset shift was.
I would love to know and, ifyou liked this episode, I would

(14:23):
also love it if you would rateus and leave us a review.
Thank you so much for joiningus for another episode of the
Operations Toolbox podcast.
I look forward to seeing younext week.
Bye.
