episode two of season four ofthe Life Out Loud podcast.
I am the creator of thispodcast and your host, Desiree
desiree Melfi Bozzo.
Wherever this finds youlistening from, please put it in

I love hearing from mylisteners and your thoughts and
your opinions.
This season, we are focusing onthe prayers that have shaped the
world.
In this episode, we're going totalk about heaven's roadmap for
(01:09):
prayer and accessing thestrength we need on a daily
basis.
So I mean, let's face it right, life on this side of heaven can
definitely attempt to break oursouls some days.
Right On those days when we'reweary or exhausted, we need
scripture and we need prayersthat we can lean into.
Otherwise, we end up leaning onour own understandings and well
(01:32):
, let's be honest, that'snothing short of a disaster,
even on our best days.
In scripture, jesus gave us theLord's prayer.
He taught that to us and hegave it to the disciples to
model their prayers from.
If you aren't familiar with it,it goes like this Our Father in
(01:52):
heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth asit is in heaven.
Give us this day our dailybread and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive thosewho trespass against us, and
lead us not into temptation, butdeliver us from evil, amen.
(02:13):
A commentary on the Lord'sPrayer that I read said Jesus
was sharing a master class onprayer and the Christian life.
I thought that was beautiful.
The Lord's Prayer touches everyimportant part of being the
hands and feet of Jesus holdingfast to God's will, forgiveness,
(02:38):
avoiding sin and protectionfrom evil, like that's literally
all of the pieces that we needto be the hands and feet of
Jesus.
I'm going to spend some timebreaking down this prayer
because I truly believe that aswe do, it begins to hold more
weight.
Right, the more we understandit, the more it becomes relevant
(03:00):
and it gets heavier in the bestway possible.
Right.
When we deeply understand themeaning, it becomes less of this
like memorized thing that werecite in church or with our
children around the dinner tableand it becomes more of a plea
that we offer directly to heaven.
And it's so relevant.
(03:21):
So I'm gonna break down eachpart of this prayer in hopes
that we walk away with a moreprofound understanding of it.
So it starts off our Father inheaven, hallowed be your name,
right.
That is basically acknowledging, like God is our sovereign
Father in heaven, right, our one, true, perfect Father, who will
(03:44):
never harm us.
He will never forget about us,he will never disappear on us.
He's an always there,unshakable, unwavering,
unmessable with Father.
That's who God is.
And hallowed means holy andconsecrated.
It's saying holy is your name, god, and offering all of the
(04:06):
praises and honor to the God ofcreation.
Our Father in heaven, holy isyour name.
It's giving God reverence andhonor in his place on the throne
over our life.
The next part of the prayer isyour kingdom come.
Friends, this is going to getheavy, but it's cool.
(04:27):
We're here for heavy, right?
There's going to be a day whenevery knee on earth is going to
bow to Jesus and we will allacknowledge that he is Lord
Instead of leaders vying forpower and glory, instead of us
on the throne of our life.
His name, and his name alone iswhat's going to stand.
(04:49):
It's going to happen one day,and this is the day that Jesus
is telling us to pray for.
It's praying for theadvancement of the kingdom of
God.
As Christ's followers, we shouldbe less focused on this world
which I know is very hard and weshould be less focused on the
(05:12):
kingdoms that we build here invain and more focused on God's
kingdom that's going to comeafter this life and it's going
to exist forever and ever.
I'm not saying don't strive forsuccess or desire nice things
or any of that, because hey, Ilike nice things too, right.
(05:34):
But what I am saying is keep itall in godly perspective and
don't let the things of thisworld become the idols of this
world.
So after we pray about hiskingdom come, the next thing we
have to pray is your will bedone on earth as it is in heaven
(05:58):
.
So we get about 80 to 100 yearsat best.
At very best, if we're lucky,on this earth we're going to
spend forever and ever, toeternity, in heaven.
That's a really long time.
(06:19):
My question is isn't it moreimportant to be who, what and
where God needs us to be in thislife, rather than who, what and
where we need to be or we thinkwe need to be.
This part of the prayer is alittle bit difficult, right?
Because it's it's likesurrender, right Full stop.
This part of the prayer isabout surrender, and our fleshly
(06:40):
bodies don't necessarily alwayslove that.
This is saying that we knowthat God knows what's best and
we surrender our will to his.
It's saying help me live hereon earth as I'm going to live in
heaven, knowing that heaven iscoming.
This might seem really ominousto a world that doesn't know
(07:01):
Jesus.
I get that.
I completely, 100% understandthe words coming out of my mouth
and what I'm saying and theimplications.
That is exactly why we arecalled to be his hands and feet,
so we can take the hand of theperson next to us and help walk
them home, because, friends Iknow I've said it before at the
(07:22):
end of the day, we are all justwalking each other home.
The next part of the Lord'sPrayer give us this day our
daily bread is asking God tocontinue to provide his daily
provisions to us.
Can I be honest in the safespace and say that when I think
about this part of the prayer,my first thought is always yay
(07:46):
carbs.
I feel so validated and so seen.
It's proof that God loves carbs.
Of course I'm completely joking.
Before you email me, that was ajoke, but in all seriousness, 1
Corinthians 10.23 reminds useverything is permissible, but
not everything is beneficial.
Everything is permissible, butnot everything is constructive.
(08:08):
All things in moderation.
I got it Super serious.
Note this part of the prayergive us this day our daily bread
reminds me of Exodus 16, myfavorite book of the Bible, when
the Israelites, god's belovedand chosen people, were lost in
(08:32):
the wilderness.
Despite their grumbling andcomplaining every morning, god
gave them provision for the day.
I encourage you to take a fewminutes and read Exodus 16.
It is a beautiful, stunningdescription of God's love for us
, Sometimes in spite ofourselves.
Let's be honest.
God gave the Israelites, hischosen people, everything they
(08:57):
needed to be sustained.
Everything they needed to besustained and, friends, he does
for us too, in every situation,in every circumstance.
He is our portion and he isenough.
The next verse forgive us ourtrespasses as we forgive those
(09:20):
who trespass against us is heavy.
I can feel its weight as I sayit.
I think it's heavy because it'sreferring to our very humanity.
Every single one of us sins andfalls short of the glory of God
(09:41):
and therefore is in desperateneed of his forgiveness.
1 John 1, 9 says if we confessour sins, he is faithful and
just and will forgive us oursins and purify us from all
unrighteousness.
The first part of this is askingfor that forgiveness.
The next part is asking forthat forgiveness.
The next part, if I can behonest, convicts my heart a
(10:02):
little.
How about you?
Because it's saying forgive melike I forgive others who hurt
me.
Can I be honest and say that assoon as I utter these words, I
also throw up a little prayer toheaven that says God, maybe not
entirely how I forgive others, because sometimes I really suck
(10:24):
at forgiveness.
Let's be honest.
I mean, yes, of course I wantto forgive fully and yes, I want
to extend all the mercy and allthe grace that I've been given
by God.
Right, but also sometimes I'mhuman and can I be honest?
I just want to be right.
Is it just me?
Do you feel that way too?
It's also why I desperatelyneed Jesus, like I need air,
(10:49):
right, I need him to forgive meof my wrongdoing and I also need
him to help me forgive othersof theirs, especially when it
doesn't feel good to my flesh.
I want to add something here.
This is a really importantpiece, because forgiveness can
feel sticky, okay.
Just because we forgive does notmean that we are a doormat or
(11:11):
or huge, or that people get aspot in our life.
Forgiveness does not equalaccess.
I'm going to say that again forthe people in the back.
Forgiveness does not equalaccess.
You can forgive someone and notallow them access into your
(11:32):
life and into your inner circle.
You can forgive someone withoutever having a conversation with
them about it.
Jesus walked away from peopleand situations, and we are
allowed to as well.
We can forgive people from afar, knowing our hearts are in
right standing with God.
(11:53):
Okay, moving on to the last partof the Lord's Prayer.
Moving on to the last part ofthe Lord's Prayer lead us not
into temptation, but deliver usfrom evil.
It is saying Lord, in thisbroken world, keep our eyes
(12:15):
fixed on you.
In a world that is enticing toevery single one of our fleshly
desires.
Keep our eyes studied on you, lord, when we see things in this
world that are tempting to ourfleshly proclivities.
Keep our paths straight and inlockstep with you, my loves.
(12:40):
I'm going to dive into thislater in the season.
But we have an enemy in thisworld whose only purpose and
desire is to destroy us.
He's after our marriages, he'safter our families, he's after
our purpose.
He uses everything in his powerto get us to falter.
(13:04):
Second Thessalonians 3.3 saysbut the Lord is faithful and he
will strengthen you and protectyou from the evil one.
We cannot walk without God inthis world.
We cannot walk through thislife without being in lockstep
with the Holy Spirit.
(13:25):
Too much of life on this sideof heaven depends on the
protection of God in our life.
Heaven depends on theprotection of God in our life.
My loves, I hope that taking theLord's Prayer line by line has
helped illuminate its meaning toyou.
I hope that some of what youlearned here, all of what you
(13:49):
learned here, has helped itbecome more personal for your
life.
I hope that it's given you somepeace that we so desperately
need.
Before we close now with, hopefully, a better
understanding, I invite you topray with me.
Our Father in heaven.
(14:14):
Hallowowed be your name, yourkingdom come.
Your will be done on earth asit is in heaven.
Give us today our daily breadand forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespassagainst us and lead us not into
, but deliver us from evil Amen.
(14:39):
