Desireé Melfi Bozzo (00:06):
Ciao and welcome to Life out loud. I am
your host Desireé Melfi Bozzo.
We are going to use this spaceto share experiences and help
you find lasting unshakableunwavering unmessable-with joy
and gratitude. We're going to bethrowing around encouragement, a
little bit like confetti andgiving you support to live your
very best life.

(00:29):
Ciao friends welcome to episodeeight of season two of the life
out loud podcast. This is theseason finale and I am as always
your host, Desireé Melfi Bozzo.
This season, I have spent eachepisode laying out a new step in
the roadmap to success. Ifyou've missed any of them, I
completely encourage you go backand have a quick listen, I

(00:51):
really believe that in everyepisode, you're going to be able
to pull a little piece of ofwisdom of knowledge to add to
your life. Maybe it's a newperspective, maybe it's a tip
that offers a new way of doingthings. Maybe it's something
that you can share with someonein your life that will empower
them. So as we stand on thebrink of the season finale,

(01:12):
having walked throughleadership, healing the past,
the power of our words, abidingin the present moment, creating
the big, amazing future, bearingfruit and in the last episode,
growing in resilience, I want totalk to you about the O word.
Now, fair warning, this isn'tfor the faint of heart. What

(01:34):
we're going to talk about isgoing to be maybe for some of us
ridiculously uncomfortable. It'ssomething that definitely holds
different meanings and emotionsfor everyone. And the word
itself can kind of make youbristle. For some people it's
fraying for others. It's anitchy wool turtleneck sweater on
a hot, humid summer day. You arewelcome for that visual. Can you

(01:58):
guess what today's topic is?
Now, before I actually tell you,I have an ask. I've never done
this before. But I actually wantyou to promise me something
before I tell you. Now, here'swhy I'm asking because we have

(02:18):
two seasons under our belt. Andby now I think I hope you trust
me. So I'm asking you topromise. No matter how hard this
episode is to hear, no matterhow sticky or uncomfortable it
is. I'm actually asking you tolisten through to the end. I've

(02:41):
never asked that of you before.
But I'm asking it today becauseI truly believe that this topic
is that important. So today'sepisode, is was what makes all
of the others from the entireseason. Stick. It's it's like
the glue that holds it alltogether. It's what makes all of

(03:02):
the other topics fall intoplace.
Today's episode is about walkingin obedience. Living obediently.
DL Moody once wrote thatobedience means marching right
on whether whooo here getssticky, we feel like it or not.

(03:26):
I thought this was a reallypowerful quote, because it tells
us that obedience Contrary topopular belief, isn't a feeling
at all. It's a choice in a worldthat pushes the importance of
how we feel. I think this is animportant distinction. It's not
about how we feel. It's aboutwalking in truth in our lives. I

(03:50):
want to tell the truth about methat maybe resonates with you
too. There have been times in mylife when I found myself in
situations or circumstances orrelationships that felt right.
They fulfilled a need in me. Andif I can be honest and tell the

(04:11):
ugly truth in this super safespace. Sometimes it wasn't a
need. They were fulfilling. Itwas a brokenness that they were
fulfilling. These were times inmy life that were enticing and
enjoyable and if I can behonest, completely justifiable.
But in all of these instances, they went against the truths

(04:34):
that we find in Scripture, thetruths that we're supposed to be
following. I was walking indisobedience, whether I wanted
to admit it or not, anddisobedience toward God is
ultimately sin. We oftentimes, here's the thing. We oftentimes
don't like to call it sinbecause it's kind of aggressive

(04:56):
and it's kind of ugly and itseems so out of date in a world
that can so easily find usliving so far from center. But
sin a sin and its disobedience.
And ultimately, if we don't getour hearts in lockstep with
scripture, walking in the rightdirection, it will be our
downfall.
Friends, I'm speaking soconfidently and so candidly

(05:19):
about this, because I have livedthrough doing it every other
way. And it doesn't work. Itleaves us sad, it leaves us
hurting, it leaves us broken.
Maybe it leaves us depressed oranxious anger and bitterness is
definitely sprinkled in alongthe way. Sure, disobedience
might feel good for a while. ButI promise you, I promise you as

(05:45):
sure as I am speaking today, thewheels will eventually fall off.
I heard a quote once thatstirred something in my heart a
long time ago, and perhaps itmight stir something in yours.
Now you can interchangedisobedience and sin, but I'm

(06:05):
going to tell you at how I heardit, that sin will take you
farther than you want to go. Itwill keep you longer than you
want to stay. And it will costyou more than you ever, ever
intended to pay. Obedience, onthe other hand, is many small

(06:25):
steps in the right direction, nomatter how we feel about it.
It's doing what is right when noone's looking, it's putting the
world and its opinions aside, and choosing to follow that
which is good. I want to take usfor a minute all the way back to
Genesis to get the magnitude ofwhat we are being called into.

(06:46):
In Genesis one. We see a commandrepeated over and over and over.
And the phrase is “God's said”.
And it's followed by “And it wasso.” So the cadence that Moses
wrote goes, God said, command isgiven, followed by the display
of obedience. And it happensover and over and over. Go to

(07:07):
Genesis, chapter one, and you'llsee it it's laid out and it is
beautiful. Friends, God formedthe earth and all we know by the
act of obedience, he said acommand. And it was so. The
heavens and the earth obey theLord. The tides in the moon, the

(07:27):
sun and the stars. We as Hispeople are given absolute
freewill. And we are called toobedience. We are no longer
under the law. But we are calledas followers of our Sweet Jesus
to honor him in our walk. Wealways have been since the
beginning of time, we alwayswill be forever and ever. Amen.

(07:51):
There are so many people in theBible who are incredible
examples of obedience. And Ihave to wonder if this theme is
woven through scripture, becauseit's that important. Without
obedience, we have chaos. I readonce that if only that phrase,

(08:17):
if only is one of the saddestphrases in the human experience.
And then I started thinking ifonly I listened if only I had
been smarter, if only I knewmore, if only plagues us with
what might have been if onlykeeps us focused on the past
rather than moving forward inthe future. When we walk in
obedience, friends, there's noif only there is only choosing

(08:40):
to walk within the will of Godfor our lives. Over and over and
over again. I read somethingthis past week they had me
sitting kind of in the stunnedsilence. The illustration is
beautiful. So Jesus fed 5000People with a couple loaves and

(09:01):
some fish. Only 500 of themfollowed him. After that lunch.
He had 12 disciples, and onlythree of them prayed with him in
the garden before his arrest outof the 12. Only one stood at
that cross. And what this showsus is the closer we get to the

(09:25):
cross, the smaller the crowdbecomes. I honestly think it's
because obedience is hard anduncomfortable. We see this all
throughout the Bible. It callsus to being a different person.
It calls us into going againstour flesh. It calls us into
going against the world and itsideas.

(09:52):

power. Take yourself from painto peace by healing the past

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
