There are several barriers that communities of color can face in seeking out mental health resources - there may be stigma towards people who receive counseling services and there may also be a lack of low and no-cost services provided by therapists who represent the community. Having therapists with a similar culture can be an important point of connection for people who are hesitant about therapy services and the services being readily accessible can be absolutely vital. Join Dr. Patrice Le Goy as she speaks with community mental health advocate Sierra Smith as they discuss barriers (including therapy deserts and stigma) to mental health in communities of color.
