"Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit." Napoleon Hill
Dreamers! I am delighted to see all of you again! I hope you have enjoyed your spring so far. What does it take for you to keep going after enduring trauma when moving seems nearly impossible? What is it called when you somehow find a way to move forward?
This conversation aims to highlight my guest's growth journey following trauma. This week, I am joined by the courageous podcaster and advocate Brianna Jones. Brianna highlights her journey of Post-trauma growth (PTG), helping others, among many other heart-wrenching yet courageous stories.
Post-traumatic growth (PTG) is a relatively new concept in psychology that refers to the positive changes and growth that can occur in individuals following a traumatic event or experience. While traumatic events can lead to adverse outcomes such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression, PTG suggests that individuals can also experience positive psychological changes as a result of their trauma.
PTG is not simply resilience or bouncing back from a difficult situation. It is a more profound and transformative experience that can lead to a higher level of functioning, greater life satisfaction, and a new perspective on life.
Research suggests that individuals who experience PTG often report several common changes, including:
It's important to note that PTG does not occur in everyone who experiences trauma. Some individuals may experience adverse psychological effects following a traumatic experience, such as PTSD or depression.
Overall, PTG is a promising area of research in psychology that highlights the potential for growth and positive change following traumatic events. Psychologists and mental health professionals can provide more comprehensive and holistic support to individuals who have experienced trauma by focusing on resilience and growth rather than just pathology.
Having the opportunity to speak with her was a pleasure. In the same way, it is likely to be true for you as you listen to it.
Taking the time to care for yourself is always worthwhile, as is enjoying life more. So maybe we will see each other again soon?

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
