(00:15):
Welcome to the Live Shootpodcast.
My name is Jeff Doddle and I'vebeen a licensed firearm dealer
for the last 18 years.
In this podcast, we talk aboutall things related to the Second
Amendment as well.
Is anything else going on in theworld, a sports story, or
anything else I might.
Find interesting.
So welcome, welcome, welcome.
Well, I missed you all Last weekwe took a little break, went to
spring training in Surprise,Arizona for the Rangers, and it
(00:37):
was a, you know.
Up and down trip.
We had good parts, bad parts.
The weather was for Arizona, wascold and rainy.
Drizzly, windy not great.
I say but we got to see somecool stuff.
We got some up close action withthe Rangers which was really
cool.
Spring training, you can see itin a.
(00:58):
A perspective that you, youdon't get to see by going to the
big league parks.
And saw, toured the ChaseStadium and did a lot of other
things.
On the flip side, we weresupposed to go have a day trip
to the Grand Canyon, and thatgot canceled because they got
six inches of snow overnight andall the roads were closed.
So but it was a good time justbeing with the family.
(01:21):
Love that time.
It's always great.
But this week well.
The Department of Justice andthe A TF have been making some
waves, some good things, someintriguing and some that just
kind of scratching your head.
We're talking about reclaiminggun rights for criminals, a
potential shift on suppressorsand a new general counsel
stepping into the A TF.
(01:42):
So, you know, grab a coffee andlet's.
Dive into what's been happeningin our fight for our second
Amendment rights.
So, alright, let's kick thingsoff with a topic that's got some
folks cheering and othersraising an eyebrow.
Reclaiming gun rights forcriminals.
Now I know what you're thinking.
Wait a second.
Are we really talking abouthanding are felons the rifles
(02:02):
back?
Well, not exactly, but there's amovement here worth watching
over the last week.
We've seen chatter from theD-O-J-A-T-F that suggests a
subtle shift in how they'reapproaching a certain ca.
Certain cases, the focus seemsto be on nonviolent offenders.
Folks who've paid their debt tosociety and aren't out there
posting a clear threat.
I.
This isn't about arming hardenedcriminals.
(02:25):
It's about asking a fairquestion.
If someone's done their timestayed clean and it isn't in
danger, should they still bestripped of their constitutional
rights forever?
I mean, the second Amendmentdoesn't come with an asterisk,
right?
It's a God given, right?
Not a privileged doled out bybureaucrats.
That said, I get the other side, public safety's real concern and
we don't want guns in the wronghands.
(02:46):
But here's the rub.
The data is showing that there'sa lot of these nonviolent folks
out there.
Driving gun crime stats.
So why punish them indefinitely?
So this, you know, process isreally, about simplifying the
process for them going to appealand get their rights back, but
no major policy drops yet, butpost on X and some whispers from
(03:07):
the gun rights community, likeour forensic Governor of
America, hint that the DOG maybe testing the waters.
This could be a win for libertyif it's done right, but we.
Gotta keep our eyes peeled tomake sure things don't turn in,
turn into some backdoor loopholefor the anti-gun crowd to
exploit.
You know, and you know, thisweek with Pam Bond, it's been a,
(03:29):
it's been mixed and go, cominginto it.
Feelings around here were mixedand you know, gun.
The Second Amendment in gunrights.
It's a very hot topic verysimilar to abortion and
President Trump, he's a, he's apolitical animal and he knows,
you know, kind of how to walkthis line.
(03:51):
And, you know, I.
While I would love us to comeout and not to get on the
abortion trail, but I am aChristian.
I don't, I am very pro-life tojust outright say we're gonna
abandon abortions.
But you know, president Trumphasn't done that and he's got,
you know, a lot of the pro-lifepeople have been uneasy about
him and his approach to, toabortion.
And I think a little bit of thatmight be true with the way he
(04:14):
handles the Second Amendment.
I think it's gonna be a verynuanced, a little bit, but you
know, so that's why we've seenthings.
You know, up and down in termsof, of how things have gone.
But you know, for example we'regonna shift gears a little bit
and, talked to something thatthis week had, you know, went
back and forth and had thesecond Amendment coming, kind
of, you know, buzzing likehornets.
(04:35):
Was the DOJ chaining their tuneon suppressors?
So if you haven't been followingalong for years, the anti gun
establishment has treatedsuppressors like they're some,
you know, Janes Bond villain andgadget.
They've argued they're not armsunder the Second Amendment, not
protected and should stay lockedup tight under the NFA.
Well hold onto your pro ear, your ear, your hold onto your
(04:56):
ear, because last week the DOGthrew was a curve ball in a
major case.
They asked for a 30 day delay toreconsider their stance.
So they had previously said thatthey're not, you know, arms and
they're not protected by aSecond Amendment, and that got
everybody up in arms.
Then the gun owners, American, the Second Amendment Foundation,
called out a Biden.
Era holdover US attorney fordoubling down on the suppressors
(05:19):
aren't arms onset.
The OJ blinked.
They're taking a step back torethink whether their hearing
saving devices, let's call themwhat they are deserve.
Second amendment protection.
I.
This is, is folks reallysuppressors aren't about making
criminals sneaky.
They're about protecting ourhearing and making shootings
safer.
Europe's figured it out.
They're over the counter inplaces like the uk.
(05:40):
Meanwhile, here we are stilljumping through NFA hoops like
it's 1934 post on extra lightingup with excitement.
Assistant, attorney GeneralMichael Williams even chimed in
saying that this could be a gamechanger.
I say it's, it's about time.
If the d OJ flips on this, itcould mean a crack in the NFA
armor.
We're not there, but let'sfight.
(06:01):
It's fight worth watching andwinning.
Finally, I.
Let's talk about the new kid onthe block.
Robert Lider, the ATFs Freshlyminted General Counsel announced
this week on March 20th.
This guy's no stranger to theSecond Amendment.
He's a former professor atGeorge Mason SC Scalia Law
School.
He clerked for, clarence Thomasand has written some sharp
(06:22):
pieces defending gun rights likehis take on why semi-autos are
protected arms on paper.
This looks like a solid pick forthe team two A, but here's where
we might pump our brakes.
Lighters replacing Pamela Hickswho got the boot from Ag Binney
last month after punishingBiden's anti-gun agenda after
(06:42):
pushing anti biden's anti-gunagenda.
It's a good Ren in our book, butLidar got the credentials.
But some folks like Mark Smiththe four four boxes of diner in
a recent video debate says he'sraising flags.
He's worried that he might leaninto a living constitution vibe
where rights evolve over time.
(07:02):
I'm, I'm not sure the secondamendment's pretty clear as, as
they shall not be infringed.
No evolution needed.
Still lighter's appointmentcould signal a shift at the a
TF, maybe a move away from theheavy handed nonsense we've
seen.
Please hope will stand up for usor just toe the new line.
Only time will tell, but I'mcautiously optimistic.
(07:24):
We need a general counsel who'llfight for the constitution, not
t So.
Been a wild week.
We will keep our eye on whatthings are going.
Keep fighting straight.
Keep shooting straight, keepfighting for freedom, and we'll
catch you next time on the liveto shoot defending the Second
Amendment.
Stay diligent.
I.
