Hawaii and the rest of the US.
We are your hosts, Mele Oshiroand Shannon Sand, and today, in
this mini episode, we're justgoing to give you some updates
about some programs and otherresources that are coming
available.

(00:55):
So first off, in Hawaii, thereis Small Remnant Nutrition and
Management in Hawaii webinarvideos that will be coming soon
to our Livestock Extension GroupYouTube channel.
So go ahead and take a look forthat.
We'll make sure we share thaton our platforms.
Also, just wanted to remindeverybody that the USDA Risk
Management Agency has expandedthe pasture range, land and

(01:18):
forage insurance to help protectHawaii livestock producers from
forage loss due to belowaverage precipitation.
If that occurs in your area.
The program is available forthose in Hawaii County currently
only right now, I want to sayit's sort of in a pilot stage,
but it's being offered currentlyin Hawaii County and please

(01:39):
take time to go on the RMA siteif you'd like to learn more
about PRF insurance and how youcan find an agent to help you
talk about the policies and suchso it is an insurance program.

Shannon Sand (01:53):
We also have a podcast where we talk about PRF
and there was a panel ofproducers on there talking about
from the mainland and from kindof where I live, talking about
how they've used it and how youknow it's it's benefited them
over time.

Mele Oshiro (02:09):
Yeah, you need to be signed up in a policy by
December 1st and it'll startimplementing in January of 2025.
But the key is you need to besigned up by December 1st if you
want to use PRF insurance.
So check out.
We'll put the links in therefor RMA and for PRF insurance

(02:29):
and you can get on there to beable to find an agent that will
help you get more informationand get enrolled if that's what
you want to do.
The other thing with FSAprograms the Livestock Forage
Disaster Program, or LFP,deadline to apply for the 2024
is going to be january 30th 2025.
So just giving you a heads upand thinking about things in the

(02:52):
future, if you need that.
So we'll put the links for thatfor hawaii county and whatnot
and shannon, I don't know yours, deadlines are probably
different but we'll link up thefsa pages for both Hawaii as
well as in.

Shannon Sand (03:05):
Nebraska and the West.

Mele Oshiro (03:07):
Yeah, and then the other thing I wanted to just
remind everybody HawaiiCattlemen's Convention and
Annual Meeting is November 22ndand 23rd this year.
We are down, they are going tobe down in Waikoloa, so you do
have to register for the event, but it's a full day of education
in the Cattlemen's College andthen the banquet and live
auction in the evening and thenHCC's annual meeting on Saturday

(03:30):
morning.
So the Cattlemen's College isgreat.
It really has good continuingeducation and industry updates
and discussion.
You know, and meet with some ofthe vendors as well as all of
us from Extension with ourlivestock programs.
All of us from extension withour livestock programs will be
there and we can, you know, besharing about some current
projects and such that we willbe having information for.

(03:50):
So I'll put the link for hcc'swebsite and their registration
and all that info in the notesand that's all for hawaii okay.

Shannon Sand (04:02):
So this is kind of nebraska and everywhere for the
most part, with the exceptionof one for my updates.
So our online quicken course isstill going on.
It will continue into infinity, but I think it's so important
I'm gonna keep talking about it.
It's 20 per person.
You get access to the coursefor I want to say 90, 60 to 90
days.
I'd have to double check, butit's listed in our show notes so

(04:25):
you can check it out.
I'm currently working on heiferreplacement cost forecasting for
the state of Nebraskaspecifically.
There's going to be a webinarthat you can catch on the replay
.
So if you kind of want an ideaof what you can afford to spend
on a replacement heifer ifyou're living in the state of
Nebraska specifically, check itout.
The 2024 custom rates survey isout for Nebraska, so if you're

(04:50):
wondering how much things coston average in certain areas,
now's a good time to check itout.
November 4th through 8th thisone is open.
I would say, like nationwide isAgSmart Money Week.
It's a mostly online webinarseries offering.
So it's covering everythingfrom land leasing, budgeting,
family living expenses, debt, cost of production and more.

(05:11):
So we'll have that websitelinked below as well.
It should be available and youcan register online and all of
those offerings are free.
So sign up for what you wantand even if you're in a
different time zone, you couldgo to those, because you will
get the links afterwards so youcan watch the replay, and

(05:31):
everybody who's on those areexperts in their industries and
areas, so it should be reallygood.
I'm really excited I got I gotsome really good people coming
in, so there will be threein-person workshops covering
family living expenses, focusingon budget savings and
investment as well as debt, butthose will also be again online.
So if you're not in thoselocations because we currently

(05:52):
have, I think, six locationsthroughout the state of Nebraska
that will be simulcasting it.
So and unfortunately, it's 7amyour time when it would be
happening, so, which is 12 mineright now, although you know
time changes always confuse me,to be fair.
Yeah, so it's very exciting, but if you want to watch it
again, it will also be offeredonline so you can catch a replay

(06:15):
later.
So just sign up for it so youcan get the link later if you
want.
And then our upcoming guest, this month.

Yeah, it's gonna be Dr Travis Idol who will be
sharing some updates about theSeedless Lucina Hybrids for a
Sustainable Civil Pasture inHawaii project that we are all
involved in, so we'll be gettingsome updates from him about the
project, where we're at andsort of where our next steps are
and how you can get involved ifyou want to find out more

(06:45):
