Annette Benedetti (00:03):
Hi, this is
Annette Finnadetti, your hostess
for a locker room talk andchocks, the podcast that likes
to think of itself as the queerNPR of raunchy women's sex talk.
You are about to sit in on thekind of conversations women have
on their girls' nights out orbehind closed doors, while
enjoying delicious drinks anddishing about sex, Think fun,
(00:26):
honest and feminist as fuck, andalways with the goal of
fighting the patriarchy.
One female orgasm at a time.
Welcome to the locker room.
Today's locker room talk andchocks topic is improving sex
(00:48):
with food.
Taste the orgasm.
By the end of this episode, you're going to know what to eat
to have better sex.
Did you know, for instance, there's a fruit that will get a
dick hard?
True, I just learned thismyself, but you got to stay
tuned to find out which one itis.
You'll also know which foods tobring into the bedroom you know
(01:10):
, for a little yummy sex playand which ones to leave in the
fucking fridge.
And to help us with thisconversation because I am no
expert is one of my favoritereturning guests, Dr Deb Lano.
She was with me for the podcaston relationship red flags.
(01:30):
You definitely want to listento that one and why we, or some
people cheat, so scroll on back.
But today Deb Lano is a sex andrelationship expert.
She is an author, a professorand a major media contributor.
She's also written a bookthat's kind of on this topic.
(01:51):
Deb, will you reintroduceyourself to my listeners?
Dr. Deb Laino (01:57):
Well, thank you
for having me back, because I
love you and I love this podcast.
So you pretty much saideverything.
Deb Lano, sex and relationshiptherapist professor, private
practice media contributor.
You know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah.
Let's get into the nitty grittyof this topic, because I will
(02:18):
tell you this is one of myfavorite topics to talk about.
Annette Benedetti (02:22):
Yeah, we've
been talking about doing this
for a while, so I'm excited todo it.
I'm still drinking coffee andit's noon.
That tells you a little bitabout me, deb.
What are you drinking with me?
Where are you at?
Dr. Deb Laino (02:34):
I got water,
though it could be vodka, but no
, it's water Cheers.
Annette Benedetti (02:39):
Let's talk
about sex.
Dr. Deb Laino (02:41):
Cheers to you.
Annette Benedetti (02:42):
All right.
Dr. Deb Laino (02:43):
Okay.
Annette Benedetti (02:43):
Let's just
jump in.
Can we start with food thatimproves sex?
Dr. Deb Laino (02:48):
Yeah, so you know
this is pretty basic, but we
all know about the standardAmerican diet, right.
So you know we don't.
It's pretty much probably whatthe majority of people are
eating, okay, like high fat, badfat, high sugar, carbohydrate
(03:09):
foods, right.
I mean, you know we live inthat world, that you know it's
fast paced and we want somethingquick.
So you know we run to thethrough, the drive-through, and
you know we get that.
You know hunger fix.
But the more you do that kind ofstuff, the more not only is it
going to have an impact on yourhealth, but it will definitely
(03:30):
have an impact on your sexualhealth, because the two are
linked.
Even brain health is linked tosexual health.
So in the years in privatepractice you know one that I've,
you know, been in I've alwaysasked people like what their
diet looks like, okay, and amongmany other questions, and I've
(03:52):
noticed just over the years thata lot of people with sexual
function issues, you know, areeating just kind of really
crappy, you know crappy diets, and even when we change some of
those things, we see animprovement, okay.
So I mean, obviously sex isdriven by so many different
things, but you also need ahealthy brain and healthy body
(04:12):
physiologically.
Annette Benedetti (04:14):
Right, and
this is actually something
that's come up in many of mypodcasts that have to do with
libido, sex drive, beingorgasmic.
When I have talked to doctors,OBGYNs, generally speaking sex
experts, they talk about how, when there's dysfunction, the
(04:37):
first thing they ask about isfood.
So perhaps you could start withwhich foods are just known for
being detrimental to sexualhealth and let's start with,
like libido, sex drive, whichones are known to sort of damp?
Put a damper on your sex drive.
Dr. Deb Laino (05:00):
Yeah, that's a
really good question, and the
primary one is refined sugars.
Okay, because of what it doesto your blood sugar, what it
does to you know, the varioushormones that we have, and even
what it does to neurochemicals.
And you know refined sugars are, you know, not only cakes,
(05:21):
cupcakes, ice cream, all of thatkind of stuff, but it's also
breads and white rice is.
And you know, even potatoes tosome extent.
Okay, I mean, potatoes havesome health benefits to them too
.
Okay, I mean, I would choose apotato over, you know, white
rice any day of the week, justbecause of the.
You know the minerals in thepotatoes.
(05:41):
But those types of things thatthe American diet is based on,
okay, like sugar in the morning, you know.
Sugar in the afternoon, sugarin the evening is going to
completely screw up your sexdrive, and a bagel with cream
cheese is all sugar forbreakfast, right.
Annette Benedetti (06:04):
Right.
Dr. Deb Laino (06:06):
So a lot of
people will go to Dunkin Donuts
right, bagel with cream cheeseand a large coffee, you know,
and they put the cream in it,more sugar, you know, and
sometimes even sugar, andpotentially just as worse, if
not worse Splenda or sweet andlow, right, and then they go to
work, they're sitting down, youknow, lunchtime comes along,
(06:27):
they have, they go out, theyhave a sandwich with French
fries, okay, and then they comehome and they have, you know,
some pasta.
I mean, it's pure sugar, youknow.
So that is not only going toimpact your gut, okay, which
also is connected to, you know, sexuality, but it's going to
impact every hormone in yourbody, as well as neurochemicals.
(06:51):
Okay, so we want to stay awayfrom, you know, the sugars as
much as possible.
Okay, Like my recommendation, Istick with the American Heart
Association, where we're, youknow, 20 grams and under, okay,
but just to give you an idea, you know how small banana is,
(07:12):
you know 15 grams.
All right, so, but there's acaveat there If you're doing
more movement and exercise, youcan have a little bit more sugar
.
If you're just sitting, youknow, obviously.
You know, you want to bemindful of that.
Then we move on to the trans fattype things like the bad fats,
all those rancid oils that areinflammatory.
(07:34):
And I will tell you the popularone right is canola oil.
Right, and people don't realize.
You know canola oil is marketedlike this is heart healthy and
obviously your heart is involvedin sex in multiple different
ways, but canola oil is one ofthe most inflammatory oils that
(07:56):
exist.
So you should be, you know, using olive oil pure or coconut
oil pure, organic, unrefined.
Annette Benedetti (08:07):
Yeah, and the
good news is you can use the
coconut oil also as a loop.
Dr. Deb Laino (08:13):
I mean, I don't
do that, but yeah, I mean it's
the best, and you know your skin, your hair.
I mean, you know many peoplecan use it on their face.
I don't use it on oil on myface for whatever reason it
breaks me out, but you know forother people like it does
wonders, you know for their skin.
Annette Benedetti (08:33):
Right.
Dr. Deb Laino (08:34):
Okay, yeah, so we
want to stay away from those
things.
And you know, I'm obviously bigon protein.
I think protein is veryimportant and I think that if
you are not vegan, you know, orvegetarian, for you know
specific reasons, okay.
And if you, there's some peoplethat need meat, okay.
(08:57):
And if you are going to eatmeat this is the other thing
that people don't necessarilythink about Um, you need to make
sure that it's grass fed.
If it's not grass fed meat, youare getting the hormones and
the chemicals and what theyactually do to the meat.
(09:20):
Okay, so I was a vegan for a fewyears, a raw vegan, and for me,
I realized that wasn't good formy health.
Okay, like I needed to throwsome meat in there for the
copper and the iron and theamino acids.
Okay, so protein is thebuilding block of neurochemicals
(09:43):
Right, I mean, if you are notgetting enough protein, those
amino acids, okay, they're notgoing to be building your
neurochemicals.
And a great.
The perfect example outside ofred meat would be turkey, right,
tryptophan.
Turkey has a lot of tryptophanin it.
Tryptophan gets synthesizedinto 5-HTP.
(10:06):
5-htp gets synthesized intoserotonin.
Serotonin gets synthesized intomelatonin and on the bottom
over here is niacin.
So you need to make sure thatthose amino acids are being
built up.
Annette Benedetti (10:24):
And what do
those do for you?
So you kind of listed out allthose things that gets turned
into, but could you, in layman'sterms, tell me what that does
for a person?
Dr. Deb Laino (10:38):
So, like that
particular one, is mood
stabilization okay, and themajority of serotonin is in our
guts, okay, so whatever you'reputting into your gut obviously
is going to have an impact onyour overall mood.
Okay, so we and sleep right, because serotonin gets
(11:02):
synthesized into melatonin.
So whenever somebody has sleepissues, they are very likely to
have serotonin imbalances.
And then you can trace thingsback, okay, to the amino acid
tryptophan.
Annette Benedetti (11:21):
Okay, all
right.
So we know now that sugar, sugars and the bad fats can
really put a damper on not onlyyour health but definitely your
libido, and it sounds likespecifically your libido and
energy, and then sleep, whichaffects everything else.
(11:43):
So if we are looking at if youare struggling to have sexual
energy in bed to get turned oninterest, your libido is bombing
out.
What are some foods that youcan start integrating into your
diet that are known for helpingwith specifically your libido
(12:08):
and your sexual interest andfeelings of love, amorous
feelings?
Dr. Deb Laino (12:15):
Beats okay, beats
are a wonderful, wonderful food
for nitric oxide production.
Nitric oxide allows blood toflow right.
In order to get an erection, inorder to get a vaginal
lubrication, you need good bloodflow.
Okay, it's calledvasocongestion when blood flows
(12:37):
down into the genitalia.
Not only you know beats likethat, but watermelon is another
really, really good one, especially, you know, when it's
in season.
Okay, like they call watermelonthe natural Viagra because of
the citrulline okay, anotheramino acid, l-citrulline, that
(12:57):
is in, you know, watermelon.
Okay, in addition to things likeand I'm just gonna throw all
this stuff out to you and youpick, you know, I guess, the
ones that are interesting to you, but like wild blueberries okay
, like the antioxidants andsomething called de-manos okay,
that is incredible for you know, fixing the cellular lining of
(13:23):
you know, sexual organs.
Omega-3s are imperative andmost people are low on omega-3s.
Most people are high inomega-6s from you know, the
rancid oils and that kind ofstuff.
But you know the omega-3s areincredibly important for brain
(13:46):
health and brain balance, whichis going to help bring, you know
, sexual balance.
It also increases nitric oxide, you know it lowers anxiety, you
know, for people.
So you know those yep, yep, gotit.
Annette Benedetti (14:02):
And where do
those come from?
The omega-3s?
What foods?
Dr. Deb Laino (14:07):
Yep, good
question.
Fatty fish okay, and you haveto be careful with fish just
because of high mercury content, because then you're going to be
dealing with a whole other hostof, you know, heavy metal
toxicity, which we don't want.
A lot of people have always agood idea to do a heavy metal
detox, which you can do withwild blueberries and cilantro
(14:29):
okay, but that aside.
So, like salmon, you know, atleast once a week, okay, is a
great one.
You know, flaxseed oil is niceomega-3.
If you are vegan or you cantake a nice fish oil supplement,
all right.
If you don't like the taste offish, there is an amazing one
(14:51):
called Barlings and you can getlike lemon swirl and you know it
does.
Are you familiar with Barlings?
Annette Benedetti (14:59):
It's so yummy
.
I love lemon.
I love the lemon flavor andtheir lemon flavor.
Like I could just spoon thatinto my mouth all day long like
candy.
Don't do that, but yeah, I loveit, barlings.
Dr. Deb Laino (15:11):
Yeah, it tastes
like a little.
I put it in the refrigerator soit's like a cold little, I
don't know treats.
Annette Benedetti (15:19):
It's really
good.
It's like a dessert.
Yeah, it tastes like lemonmeringue pie, without the
meringue.
Dr. Deb Laino (15:24):
Oysters are
another good one, right?
Oysters have a lot of zinc inthem, right?
And zinc is a precursor totestosterone.
All right, so we always wannahave ample zinc in our system,
okay, so any foods that havehigh zinc even nuts, raw nuts
(15:45):
and seeds have zinc in them, yeah.
Annette Benedetti (15:46):
Yeah, so to
point out to people and correct
me if I'm wrong I think what alot of women specifically, but
people of all genders don'tunderstand is testosterone is
what fuels our sex drive.
Right, it's a big motor enginebehind getting horny and
oftentimes libido's dropping hasto do with our testosterone
(16:12):
dropping, correct?
Dr. Deb Laino (16:13):
Yes, and
testosterone also is responsible
on some level for mood.
Okay, so I know, for me it'salways a red flag when males
have low sex drive and they havelow mood.
Okay, like at that point, 80%positive.
We've got some hormonalimbalances.
(16:35):
Now, with that being said, hormones are very volatile and a
blood test is the worst way toget an accurate view of hormones
.
Okay, so they don't really meananything on a blood test.
So the best way and of courseinsurance does not cover this is
(16:56):
either dry urine or saliva.
Okay.
So when you get one of thosehormonal kits okay, and you do
like urine or dry urine orsaliva, and of course you have
to have a medical doctor to viewthem, even though you could
probably understand themyourself you do a test in the
(17:17):
morning, mid-morning, afternoon, late afternoon and evening.
Okay, because that gives you amuch fuller picture of what's
going on, because hormoneschange throughout the day, right
?
So, and a good example is,testosterone is higher in the
morning, okay, so if you go, ifyou go to the lab and you get
(17:40):
your hormones tested by blood atseven o'clock in the morning,
your testosterone could verywell be normal, even mid-range
normal, but by three o'clock youbottomed out.
Annette Benedetti (17:53):
What are
foods that support testosterone
in people of all genders?
Dr. Deb Laino (17:58):
So foods high in
zinc Okay.
So again, pumpkin seeds aregreat, Oysters are great, Role
nuts and seeds are great.
Clean grass-fed protein Okay,whether it's in a shake or
whether it is, you know, a pieceof meat, Even protein in
(18:18):
general.
Like I said, if you are vegan, there are protein shakes that
are going to supporttestosterone.
Okay, just because protein ingeneral does.
Annette Benedetti (18:28):
If this
podcast has taught you guys
anything, hopefully it's thatyour sexual health is tied to
your whole health and yourmental health and the whole
system goes together.
So anything that's good foryour sex drive is good for you
In my unprofessional opinion andyour professional opinion,
correct.
Dr. Deb Laino (18:49):
Yeah, well, yeah,
but I mean you're into that
kind of stuff and you know Ithink people know for the most
part in general that they needto have a healthy internal body,
both mind and body, to havelongevity with sex and vitality
(19:13):
with sex, and ultimately that'swhat we're getting at here.
Annette Benedetti (19:17):
Are there any
last foods that you ingest?
We're going to move on in amoment to the bedroom and what
we can bring into the bedroomfor fun sex play, but before we
move on, are there any foods youwant to make sure my listeners
know about in their quest to belike hornier, dirtier folks?
Dr. Deb Laino (19:38):
Yes, two in
particular.
Okay.
So, and the second one isprobably going to be shocking,
but the first one is limitalcohol.
Okay, because alcohol is acentral nervous system
depressant and the more of itwill cause erectile function
issues, it'll cause lubricationissues.
(19:59):
So keep the alcohol to.
You know, a drink to absolutelymax, okay, if you want to take
the edge off, you know, orwhatever, and that is you know.
You know, six ounces of wine,1.5 ounces of hard alcohol, okay
, because it's not going to giveyou good, good sex.
(20:23):
Okay, in the beginning it mightOkay, but the more you use that
, you know, during sex, the moredampened your sexual or central
central nervous system is goingto be and in the long run, your
anxiety is going to end upgetting higher.
Okay, so then we get morealcohol and then, before you
(20:43):
know it, you don't want to havesex.
Okay, and you're looking for,you know, different things to
bring arousal to the situation.
The second thing is chocolate.
Okay, like, chocolate isprobably one of the biggest
marketing scams ever, for youknow Valentine's Day, right, you
(21:03):
know chocolate is love and youknow all of that.
And you know, first of all, themilk chocolate is pure sugar.
It has none of the benefits init that what's called raw cacao,
okay, which is chocolateactually has, which nobody wants
to eat raw cacao because ittastes so bitter, okay, and you
(21:27):
know.
Again, it gets mixed down, youknow, with sugar and all of that
kind of stuff, and there'splenty of recipes you can do
with raw cacao to make itamazing.
But chocolate, dark chocolate, let's stick with dark chocolate
and raw cacao.
They have two chemicals in them.
One is a natamine and the otherone is theobromine.
(21:50):
Theobromine is the chemicalthat you know kills will kill a
dog if they eat chocolate.
Um, anatomine is a TH.
It binds to THC receptors, justlike THC does.
Okay.
Now, the interesting thingabout chocolate is the very few
(22:10):
studies that have been done ondark chocolate and women.
That women would choose darkchocolate over sex.
Okay, because what theobrominedoes and what anatomine does is
it makes you feel fulfilled.
So you never want to give yourlover dark chocolate before sex
(22:34):
because it's going to lowerperformance, because they're
already going to feel satisfied.
Annette Benedetti (22:40):
Oh shit, I
hope you guys are listening to
this one Chocolate, youmotherfucker stealing our lovers
and our hard dicks and wetclits.
Dr. Deb Laino (22:53):
Yeah, take, eat
the dark chocolate, you know,
after sex, okay, or if you knowyou're not going to have sex,
because there's amazing benefitsto dark chocolate, okay.
Lots of antioxidants, okay, andeven those two compounds are
very healthy for you, but it isnot an aphrodisiac by any sense
(23:16):
of the word.
I always make this joke if youwant to get your partner into
bed and have good sex, go to aclean sushi place.
Make sure that sushi is grade a, okay, because you don't want
parasites, the whole other story.
So have a little bit of sushi, okay, sashimi maybe, like, not a
(23:37):
lot of rice, a little bit ofsake.
Don't fill yourself up.
You've got just, you know, enough to not be hungry.
You've got all that zinc in youand you've got a little bit of
sake to take the edge off.
Annette Benedetti (23:54):
That
resonates with me.
I feel like after I've hadsushi, I I have a little bit of
a buzz going on in.
Just I feel awake, alive, alert, energetic, and I've noticed
this repeatedly over the years.
I'm like dang, like sushitreats me well, yeah, so that
(24:15):
actually makes sense.
If you are a sushi person, youjust got to go ahead, make your
date, take you out and promisethem sex after.
Dr. Deb Laino (24:26):
Yeah, and look,
if you're not a sushi person,
because not everybody is You'regoing to make at home, naked,
okay, um, some salmon, and havea glass of white wine, okay.
And you know, do make it inyour high heels or whatever.
And and underwear, males andfemales, males, females,
(24:50):
whatever.
Make it a sexy cookingexperience too, yeah.
Annette Benedetti (24:56):
I love it.
That's a great idea.
All right, guys, now you have adinner idea before you're going
to have sex.
Is there a reality toAphrodisiacs?
Are there actual Aphrodisiacs?
I guess the sushi would beAphrodisiac, but are there other
at Aphrodisiacs you can listoff for us?
Dr. Deb Laino (25:17):
Yeah, I mean, I
think you know it's not a hard
science, all right, but you know, I think that when you look at
certain, say, fruits, okay, andvegetables, they resemble body
parts, all right, and theancient thought is that you eat
(25:38):
the foods that resemble bodyparts and it helps those body
parts, okay.
So, for example, you know figsand testicles, okay, do I think
figs are Aphrodisiacs?
Sure, okay, because, again, whether they resemble a testicle
or not, they are filled withfiber, okay, they're filled with
(26:02):
, you know, just, chemicals andantioxidants that are just good
for you know, the body, okay.
So oysters, I think, because oftheir zinc content, right, so
they're going to be anAphrodisiac.
So avocados, okay, are said toyou know, look like the womb,
(26:25):
okay, so they're supposed to.
You know, kind of excite.
You know females, and again, you've got that really good fat
there, okay, so any.
So you know a cheeseburgerisn't going to be an Aphrodisiac
, right?
I mean, it's all shit.
Annette Benedetti (26:43):
All right.
I mean, you do know that rightnow there's some dude listening
to this podcast, holding up awatermelon going yep, that's
about right.
No, it's not, sir, but I likeyour confidence.
Dr. Deb Laino (26:59):
Watermelon is a
gift from the gods.
I mean, watermelon is amazingfor sex, okay.
And again, is it an Aphrodisiacper se?
I mean, there's compounds inthe watermelon that are going to
get blood flow going.
You know the elcitrulline.
If you don't like watermelon, okay, well, you know, you know,
(27:24):
maybe we find you know somethingelse.
Maybe take a citrullinesupplement or LRGene supplement.
But if you like watermelon whenit is in season, you should be
eating watermelon as much as youpossibly can.
Annette Benedetti (27:40):
All right.
So let's move into the bedroomwith food.
What are you got suggestionsfor food?
Sex play, or, you know, itdoesn't even have to be in the
bedroom yet like from cooking toin the bedroom.
What are we adding for our sexynight?
Dr. Deb Laino (27:58):
So probably my
favorite thing to add into the
bedroom is warm honey.
Okay, now, some people don'tlike honey, that's fine.
There's other things.
But warm honey because and notlike overly heated, don't boil
it, but, you know, warm it up,you can pour it on each other,
(28:20):
okay.
Whenever it comes to sugar, they say, keep it above the
waist.
Okay, I to some extent agreewith that, but I think there's
variations.
But you know, you can suckhoney off nipples, right.
You can suck honey out of bellybuttons, right.
I mean, I personally think thata little bit of honey on a penis
(28:42):
is a wonderful way to give ablow job, because honey is a
wonderful way to give a blow job, because honey makes you
salivate, salivate and don't getit in the urethral opening.
Okay, just put a little bit,you know, on the shaft of the
penis, you know, and you know, start kind of sucking away.
(29:02):
Okay, you don't want to do thatin a woman because of yeast and
you know that kind of stuff, but you can use a definitely a
little bit on a penis, all right.
So warm honey is incrediblyimportant.
I like some of the basics, likestrawberries, you know, I think
kissing with strawberries canbe, you know, very erotic.
(29:24):
I think that even putting astrawberry in a little bit of
vaginal fluid and then, you know, kind of eating it while
looking at your partner's eyes, can be very erotic.
Don't put the strawberry in thevagina, okay, again, because of
you know, sugars, but on theoutside of it, you know, you can
(29:45):
certainly, you know, tease witha strawberry and then get
really erotic and eat it.
I also like to bring ice, youknow, into the bedroom and
recommend it often, because youcan do anything you want with
ice.
Okay, that can go anywhere onthe body.
It's water, for God's sakes,okay.
(30:06):
And again, it gives differentsensations, right, and some
people don't like the coldsensation, okay, and some people
do, but it's a real nice sortof I don't know erotic change.
You know, I think you know alittle bit of whipped cream can
be fun, you know to, maybe onthe nipples or you know
(30:29):
something like that I like to.
I like food in the bedroom, inthe bedroom, quote, unquote,
right, I think it's a.
I think it can be very justerotic, okay, using your hands
and feeding each other and, youknow, licking and sucking and
chewing in.
(30:49):
You know, hopefully you're notchewing with a crap ton of food
in your mouth.
That's erotic, but you know, you know what I mean and, for
your listeners, never, ever puta whole bunch of any of this
stuff in your mouth and thinkyou're going to be erotic.
It's nibbling.
Okay, the nibbling is the partthat's erotic, and feeding each
(31:14):
other is is Erotic and it's it'scaring and it's sensual, you
know.
So there's a lot of fun things.
With regards to Bringing foodin the bedroom, I Love that.
Annette Benedetti (31:28):
Yeah, I
hadn't thought about the
strawberries and the vagina andstuff like that.
That's yes, but something toRemind listeners of is don't go
shoving a bunch of things up avagina that you cannot get out
or you know really.
Just don't shove things up thevagina.
Sometimes they get lost upthere.
We've mentioned in previouspodcasts.
Dr. Deb Laino (31:52):
Yeah, and you'll
be able to get it out, because
you know it's not going to go upinto your brain right, the body
doesn't, you know, work likethat.
But you know it's still likeknowing that you have a
strawberry in there somewhereand hopefully you remember to
get it out, because there havebeen plenty of times, I'm sure,
(32:15):
that ER doctors have taken takenvery interesting things out of
anuses, and vaginas, for thatmatter.
Annette Benedetti (32:24):
Yes, I think
we've talked a little bit in
past episodes.
Someone mentioned broccoli.
One time I was like broccoli, that's when.
The discussion of food in thesex like broccoli in the bedroom
.
That's just not like my firstthought.
Dr. Deb Laino (32:39):
No, you know, if
you have a sense of stomach,
it'll.
You know you can be Gassy.
You know you want to stay awayfrom foods that are going to
make you gassy.
If you know, if strawberriesmake you a little gassy, then
you know you can do mangoes orcherries, okay, they're all you
know, really really good.
(32:59):
And I'll tell you Another onethat I think can be kind of sexy
too is adding a little bit ofheat.
So if you put a little cayennepepper on mangoes, okay, and you
know, eat that.
You know, sometimes when youeat, the myth is okay.
(33:19):
We don't know if it's, if it'strue or not.
The rumor is, I should say, isthat if you eat some spicy foods
, that it's going to increaseyour libido as well.
I would always choose cayennepepper over everything, because
cayenne is medicinal in so manyways.
Cayenne actually makes yourblood flow All right, it burns
(33:41):
fat.
I mean.
You know cayenne is, ismedicine and it's a.
Annette Benedetti (33:46):
It's a
wonderful spice too and do you
have any foods outside of fruitsthat you think Make a sexy
addition to the bedroom and sexplay?
Dr. Deb Laino (34:00):
to the bedroom.
No, because fruit is light, it'ssexy.
You know, I don't want to seepeople bring in pizza into the
bedroom, you know, like that, Imean all this like heavy stuff
and I'm sure there are okay, butjust, whatever it is, make sure
that it's clean and light.
(34:22):
That is the goal, okay, and nothard to eat, for that matter.
Okay, you don't want to bebringing like I don't know
walnuts in their shell into thebedroom where you're like you
have to crack those bitches, youknow, to even get the woman out
of it, right?
I mean, you don't want hard toeat food.
You don't want a heavy food, you know, you want light and
(34:44):
easy Food.
That, just in case you have alittle bit of a stomach pang of
you know, hunger, it can belightly settled and it will give
you energy, because you knowFood is actually supposed to
give you energy.
If you eat a meal and you feelfatigued Afterwards, you ain't
(35:04):
the wrong thing for your body, okay, and your body is telling
you I did not like that, right?
Yeah, food is meant to give youenergy, not to make you go to
sleep.
Annette Benedetti (35:20):
Right, and?
And if you eat too much, yourstomach also then starts
digesting all that and all yourblood goes to your stomach, and
that's not where you want yourblood.
Dr. Deb Laino (35:32):
I would also say
stay away.
You know, because, as I'msitting thinking, somebody out
there right now is thinkingabout charcuterie boards.
I know they are.
You do not want to bringbecause it's finger foods, right
.
You do not want to bring dairyinto this mix.
Okay, number one, because ofthe sugar and the lactose.
(35:53):
Number two dairy is isinflammatory.
Some people can get gas withdairy and it's just gonna slow
down, you know.
Slow you down a bit lesbianslisten.
Annette Benedetti (36:07):
Lesbians love
their charcuterie bar boards
and no one can whip together acharcuterie like a lesbian.
Can I have had my heart oneover by a lesbian who put
together the most Amazingcharcuterie ever.
So lesbians, listen up.
What about olives?
What about olives?
Dr. Deb Laino (36:27):
Oh, that's
absolutely, Absolutely.
I can't believe I freakingforgot that one.
Olives are amazing.
You can certainly bring olivesinto the bedroom.
Annette Benedetti (36:39):
Look at me
olives for the win.
Dr. Deb Laino (36:41):
Yeah, I mean
think.
I mean you know it's a reallygood fat, you know it's a, it's
a sexy.
You know food, it's veryMediterranean.
Okay, some people don't likeolives.
That's fine, I wouldn't even beI.
I'm okay also with like like anolive tapenade on like a nice
(37:01):
like seed cracker.
Okay, like you know, and youcan play around with some of you
know that kind of stuff too, because it's light, it's, you
know, healthy and it's not goingto have a negative impact on,
you know, sex and sexuality.
Annette Benedetti (37:19):
I this
Conversation just made me think
of.
Do you remember the trend of asushi being served on naked
women, do you?
Do you remember that trend?
Yeah, I just want you tocomment on it.
Dr. Deb Laino (37:34):
Yeah, I never
thought it was a good idea.
I mean, you know there'sthere's too many links to Women
and fish, which is completelynot true.
Unless a woman has a bacteriainfection, okay, then it can be
a little.
You know, her vagina can be alittle fishy.
Yeah, I mean, I me personally Ididn't find much sexy about it.
Annette Benedetti (38:03):
I thought it
was so weird the idea,
especially because sushi issupposed to stay cold and it's
on this body like a warm body.
But it was very popular.
But it's kind of interestingnow that you talk about the
aphrodisiac effects of havingsushi before sex.
It's like, oh well, I guessthey could go together.
(38:26):
It just grosses me out.
The idea of fish on a warm bodydoesn't seem sexy.
Dr. Deb Laino (38:32):
But I choose warm
honey, like a warm raw honey
with sex, because honey isactually antimicrobial, it's
anti fungal, it's antibacterial.
Okay, matter of fact, if youhave like an infection, you can
use manuka honey and it's, it'sbetter than you know a lot of
(38:54):
antibiotics.
I didn't know that, you know.
So there's properties and someof the things that we've talked
about that are that I'vecarefully sort of curated and,
you know, picked over, you know, over the years, for their
benefits and their you knowtheir powerful, you know
components, sure.
Annette Benedetti (39:17):
So let's wrap
this up with the takeaways for
my listeners.
What really quickly just roundup your top picks for what to
stock their refrigeratorpantries with, to be ready at
any moment for sexy food playwith their partner.
Dr. Deb Laino (39:39):
Okay, watermelon,
wild blueberries not regular
ones, wild blueberries, they'resmall, they're tiny.
And omega three supplements anice French wine, I would throw
that in there.
A raw local honey, pumpkinseeds Okay, so you have zinc.
Throw a zinc supplement, youknow, in your pantry.
(40:00):
Make sure you have that.
Stop buying highly processedfoods, if you are, that are
laden with sugar.
Make sure you have a tub oforganic coconut oil, because
another gift from the gods inyour pantry.
Annette Benedetti (40:18):
I love it and
then can.
So the name of your book is Sexin the Kitchen, not your
mother's recipe book, and I amgoing to put a link to that.
Do you want to?
Just really quickly, I don'teven know Tell me and the
listeners what's in that.
Dr. Deb Laino (40:36):
Yeah, so that
book was written when I was a
raw vegan, so the majority ofthe recipes in that book it's a
recipe book are raw vegandesserts.
Okay, so it's desserts andcocktails.
Okay, so that's it.
I started getting into and Istill do most of my desserts raw
(41:00):
vegan because they're justutilizing like super foods right
, Like you can make a chocolatepudding out of raw cacao, dates
and avocado and mix it all in ablender.
Have you ever had that?
Annette Benedetti (41:13):
No.
Dr. Deb Laino (41:14):
Raw vegan.
Oh, my God, it is to die, forit is so rich.
You could literally eat it forbreakfast or lunch or dinner,
because it's all super food.
Because raw cacao is, you know,a super food and it's, you know
, thick like pudding.
It's this simple you use 12dates, a teaspoon or two of raw
(41:35):
cacao and two of ripe avocados, okay, blend it all up, put it in
the refrigerator for, you know,a couple hours, okay, and you
will have an amazing food, notfor sex per se, because of the
raw cacao, and, you know so, allthose types of desserts that
(41:55):
were just really built forhealth and that you could eat
and not feel guilty about.
And then the alcohol thecocktails in that book are
really sort of unique and youknow, there's nothing worse than
going to get like a margarita.
And it's laden with this fakemargarita mix.
(42:16):
Okay, like they suck, If youlike them.
You've never had a realmargarita, Okay.
So I made this one margaritaand it was called a cellarita.
I know it sounds crazy, itsounds gross, but it is, it's
awesome.
So it's a celery, white grapes, tequila, and you rim the top
(42:45):
with sugar and it's just, it'san awesome cocktail.
And there's another one inthere called beat you up, and
it's a beet juice and whitegrapes and you can use vodka or
tequila.
And I made these because, like I, I did number one.
I don't want to feel guilty ifI'm drinking alcohol, okay, like
(43:08):
this is doing my body so bad.
I also cannot wake up with ahangover.
I cannot.
I have to be on point, you know, for the most part every day.
So I wanted fresh ingredients, okay, and I also like to have
energy when I'm drinking.
I like to have a boss, but Ilike to have energy and you know
(43:32):
the, the classic drink thatwill do that for you is like the
red bull and vodka, but it'sfreaking horrendous for you.
So if you do like the beetjuice, right, you're getting all
that nitric oxide and Bvitamins and iron and all of
that, and you know a bit ofvodka and you throw some white
grapes in there for forsweetness.
(43:53):
I mean you're getting a buzzand you know you're getting, you
know your.
Your head stays clear and youknow it's just, it's a good
drink.
It doesn't sound like it, butit is a good drink.
Annette Benedetti (44:07):
Well, I'm
going to leave the link in the
notes of this podcast for mylisteners, and I feel you 100%.
I'm sure we all are familiarwith wanting to have a drink
while being sexy and beingconcerned about oh, am I going
to get too drunk, am I going tobe hungover, is there too much
(44:28):
sugar in this?
I think most of us by now knowthat the sugar and I love sweet
cocktails, I love cocktails, butI also know that the sugar in a
lot of them makes me feel likeshit.
If it doesn't, in the momentwhich, after two or three drinks
, I will start to feel the sugarlike worse than the alcohol, it
will the next day.
So this makes complete sense tome, and to be able to have a
(44:51):
sexy cocktail and know that whatyou're have it not only taste
sweet and good, and know thatwhat you know is wrapped around
that alcohol and and enteringyour body is going to be healthy
and good for you is, I think, will also make you clear your
mind a little better for what'sat hand, which is sex.
Dr. Deb Laino (45:10):
So yeah, yeah,
and just on a side note too,
like with wines, I stay awayfrom all California wines
because of the high glyphosatein them.
I stick with only French wines.
I'll do a little, you know, kind of shout out here.
I'm a company that I use.
It's called dry farm wines andthey are all touted by like the
(45:35):
paleo people and they have nosugar and they are super clean.
They've all been tested forpesticides, glyphosate, you know
numerous others, and whenyou're drinking them they are
very clean.
A lot of them come from France.
I like a good French wine, butsome of them come from other
(45:57):
places.
But if you're, if you want, like cases of wine, to order
online knowing 100% that they'regoing to be clean, dry farm
wines is absolutely amazing andyou know you're getting, like I
said, clean wine.
If you don't, when you go tothe liquor store, you know,
choose a wine from Francebecause they do not use the
(46:19):
glyphosate and the pesticidesthat we use here in America.
Annette Benedetti (46:23):
Well, I feel
like you've given us some great
information and applicable tipsthat we can start using in our
life and sex life, andspecifically starting today.
So thank you so much for that.
Can you tell my listeners whereto find you?
Dr. Deb Laino (46:44):
Yes, your sexcom,
just my website is the best
place and you know all contactinformation is on there.
So yeah, have at it.
Annette Benedetti (46:57):
Thank you so
much for coming back and

watermelon.
I usually don't eat watermelon,I don't know why, but I'll tell
you what.
Also, all my people out therebetter get ready because I'm

Dr. Deb Laino (47:18):
You are going to
be at the sushi bar tonight and
dessert is going to bewatermelon.
Annette Benedetti (47:25):
My partner
and I will be eating sushi and
watermelon from here on out allthe time.
I love it.
